And you have clearly not seen the profile of students at the tier-1 NLUs, the quality of education and the crowd at SLS-P and places like JGLS simply does not compare, and I've experienced both places. Top 30% of the crowd is a large generalisation of the crowd at SLS. They are comparable maybe to the tier-2 NLU grads from where many folks work hard to crack judicial and other competitive exams, get occasional tier-1 jobs, etc., and not to tier-1 NLUs (maybe the top 5-10% are). And like JGLS, SLS just started having somewhat respectable placements only 1-2 years back, probably owing to a booming hiring market. Don't make it seem like the place has some historically excellent track record. Its alumni achievements are also largely owing to its age than the college itself.
Bangalore people please help!
For starters, just aim for the undisputed top 6/Tier 1 NLUs i.e. NLS, NALSAR, NUJS, NLUJ, GNLU and NLIU. After that it's quite messed up, but to say the least, HNLU, NLUO, RMLNLU, RGNUL and NUALS are some great institutes. A tier above the likes of DSNLU, TNNLU and CNLU for sure.
Mind that not ALL NLUs are worth spending money on; you would fare better if you do engineering at your local university rather than going for something like MNLU-A or NLU, Meghalaya, in terms of employability. I hope I gave you an outline to work with as an aspirant. Best of luck! :)
Furthermore, a former ▮▮▮ or ▮▮▮ who also left the firm once remarked that I should redo three days' worth of work within a single hour. ▮▮▮ also questioned my suitability for the team, emphasizing that it is a leading team in the entire country and there are numerous individuals more capable than myself, whom they could easily hire. The ▮▮▮, who holds degrees from prestigious institutions like ▮▮▮ and ▮▮▮, has unfortunately proven to be the most discourteous individual I have encountered within the law firm. In a highly unpleasant manner, ▮▮▮ informed me that they cannot consider me for recruitment. Moreover, while ▮▮▮ can freely contact me and assign tasks at any time, I am not permitted to reach out to ▮▮▮ during regular business hours to seek clarifications, as ▮▮▮ tirelessly attends to client matters, fearing potential oversight. Despite having high expectations based on ▮▮▮ impressive credentials, ▮▮▮ behavior as a person is exceedingly toxic, lacking basic manners. It is important for these individuals to bear in mind that they are interacting with someone significantly younger, who is earnestly striving to collaborate with them. As law interns, we hold them in high regard, yet they fail to reciprocate that respect.
Glad to finally hear from your side. Don't worry, you'll be graduating from one of the top law schools that our country can offer. Banger of a choice indeed! :)
Penultimate year student btw
Rona chhod ke kabhi unki bhi success ko celebrate kar liya karo jo tumhare NLU club se bahar ke ho. Kuchh entitled beings sochte hain ki sare Sansar ka sukh, vaibhav, sampada aur aishwarya sirf unke liye hai jinhone CLAT crack kiya hai. Jinhone CLAT crack nahi kiya wo to kaamchor aur nalayak hain, jinhe jine tak nahi dena chahiye. Tumhare hisab se 190 crore ka ghar to sirf kisi NLU tag wale ko hi milna chahiye. Aur Legally India website bhi is echo chamber ka part hai.
Aur kya fayda tumhare CLAT clear karne ka jab tum news tak nahi cross check kar sakte.

" What is left of Mumbai is only its suffocation and the petty sizes of homes. It certainly has improved in one aspect. Until about 10 years ago, only the rich could live in a building that had lawns and pools, and many billionaires did not have even that. But today the upper middle-class can find residential buildings that have a pool and a gym. Even in this redeeming quality, there is nothing special about Mumbai. Other cities offer better homes at half the price."

KAUN HAI YE LOG
KAHA SE AATE HAI
Look, when I signed up for the job, I knew it was going to be long hours. While other jobs people get to leave office at 6-7pm, we have to stay around in office till at least 9pm.
A normal day of a Corp lawyer probably ends at 10pm. If there’s more work, yes, stay back till 12pm - 1 am and finish the work.
I’m even okay to work till 3-4 am on certain days - let’s say when deadline is in next 2 days.
But when every week, the work becomes such that you have to work till 3 in the night, and even weekends you don’t get a break, then you have to push back.
I know we get paid by the hour, so technically the more hours you work, the more money you get. But certain hours are more valuable than other hours. Especially 1am - 6am. That’s when our body needs sleep. It’s not something optional.
You know which group works till 3-4am in the night regularly? People who are in high growth startups, and are trying to establish themselves. If we have to work every other day till 3 am, we are much better off working in a startup. At least you get equity in startups, not some random fluff from seniors about “take ownership about work”
And you might say, oh - it’s because lot of matters are on fire right now. Umm ok, but as a senior with 10 + years experience, you can surely anticipate that. Why are you taking on more work when you know you are understaffed for that task?
Because here’s what happens when workload increases. Juniors get pulled up for not being committed enough. Junior tries to work late night, pushes their limit, burnouts and then quits due to mental health issues.
Partner pockets the profit and finds someone else to replace then in 1-2 months.
The house always wins.
Let's compare a ranked 100 fellow (average kid) with ranked 50-60 kid (NUJS) both should have similar capabilities. Now if firms hire 100-150 fellows from a batch 240 students at NLS then the stats of other NLUs will surely get affected as there are not enough jobs! In the near term 180-240 peeps start graduating from NLS, no NLU will have 100% placement stats. All T1 NLUs will prolly place the same percentage of the batch at similarly placed firms.
Let's say T1 NLUs start placing 70% of thr batch at good places. Due to the increased batch sizes, this figure will cover almost all the jobs and the lower ranked NLUs will get peanuts. While the rest 30% of the batch will not get into decent places.
Therefore, placement records of all the T1 NLUs will get affected proportionately. In absolute numbers, u may say that 50kids did not secure a job but in terms of percentage of the batch it will remain the same as other NLUs. The lower NLUs will get affected the most as firms won't even go there for day Z
Any suggestions on how to go about next?
Start your research with chatgpt but it's product must not be the final thing u submit, every single fact must be cross-checked
JUDGE ADVOCATE GENERAL (JAG)
1. SELECTION: All India level exam, seats are very limited (last year 6 for male & 3 for women). Only candidates age between 21 to 27yr age are eligible & no concept of reservation. Initially everyone granted SSC max. for 14yr on expiry (if not fit & eligible) released from the service. But if fit & eligible than only Permanent Commission granted (before expiry b/w 10 to 14yr). So not only cracking exam is tough but continuing in service is more tough. Also there is no scheme of lateral entry.
2. JURISDICTION : It only deals with criminal matters related within the Military provided under Army/Navy/Airforce Act. Any causality to civilians or if rape/murder/CH done within armed forces than only civilian (district) courts can deals. So the work scope is very much limited.
3. POWER : Simple punishment to Death penalty can be offered. Trial court presided by min. 5 or max. 9 member in which judgement by majority followed based on jury advised.
4. PROMOTION SCOPE : Join at Lt. and max. can be promoted upto Major General (min. 27yr of service required). Majority get retired at Lt. Colonel or Colonel rank and only best may make for Brigadier & Major General.
5. PAY & ALLOWANCES : Starting salary Rs. 56100 & max. 1.44L (Major General). Allowances paid among Army/Navy/Airforce grades are much higher than any govt. services. If exclude DA (currently 42%), only cash allowances makes around Rs.94k to 1.2L/M.
6. FACILITIES : Mostly you'll be allotted well semi furnished type 5 bungalows (sometime flat accommodation also) from starting. From Brigadier rank fully furnished type 6 bungalows allotted. Independent Car facilities or TA in lieu given from starting.
7. WORK CULUTRE : They also have mixed culture i.e., challenging but interesting. It is a judicial service so free from any political or other pressures and is job in military so definitely no room for laziness or pending works. All rules/ethics/conducts strictly monitored or followed and no mercy on failing or breaching.
8. SECURITY & TRANSFER : Regarding this there is no issue like PCS (J), an adequate number of security given at every level & everywhere. The transfers done anywhere but within armed forces jurisd. include HQs or in central ministries or other places as central govt. deems fit.
STATE JUDICIAL SERVICE [PCS (J)]
1. SELECTION : State level exam, seats are high, candidate b/w 21 to 35yr age can appear & age relaxation + few seats for reserved candidates. No SSC or PC rule applied & posted for fixed age i.e., 60 for district, 62 for HC & 65 for SC. Lateral Entry scheme are there at DJ, HC & SC level. Thus it is Easier than JAG to crack.
2. WORK SCOPE : They have wider areas to deal from criminal, civil to quasi-judicial matters. Even they can initiate proceeding against military personnel's even if civilians not involved on grounds time to time notify by Central Govt. They deals with matters pertains to both State & Central Law in India. Even they can deal any other matters if not expressly or impliedly barred by any Act/notification.
3. POWER : The actual court power is here. Unlike JAG, every JO's have independent court & vested with independent power. No jury or majority rule apply (except in HC/SC). Even death sentence can be passed by single judge (subject to approval of HC). District Court judges have much power than counterpart JAG Grades.
4. PROMOTION SCOPE : joining at Civil Judge (Jr. Divi.) for lower judiciary & ADJ for Higher Judiciary and max. can be promoted upto the post of Chief Justice of India (last post of Indian Judiciary). For HC 1/3rd seats reserved for district judiciary. promotion is easier than JAG as one can reach to the highest post of district judiciary within 15 to 20yr of service (in ADJ within 11 to 16yr).
5. PAY & ALLOWANCES : Civil Judge starting Rs.77840 & ADJ starting Rs. 1.45L/m. So min. 78K & max. 2.8L (CJI). Allowances are nearly at par with All India Service grades but very less than JAG officers. Round figure of cash allowances ranges between Rs.12K to 30K for Civil Judges while Rs. 25K to 70K for DJ ranks.
6. FACILITIES : Type 5 semi furnished flat accommodation provided to every judges of district judiciary except PDJs or Special Judges (in DJ ranks) or CJMs (who get type 6 furnished bungalows). Regarding car except PDJ/ADJ-1/CJMs/Special Judges (in DJ ranks) all are provided either pool car or fuel allowances.
7. WORK CULTURE : Mixed culture, free from all type of pressures or interference. Strictness but less than JAG.
8. SECURITY & TRANSFER : At starting no security provided except PDJs/CJMs/ADJs/ SDJMs/JM (holding special criminal courts) however in many states armed-home guard facilities deployed at judicial accommodations. As per SC order every district court judges shall be transferred on completing 3yr at one place. Transfers mainly within states but deputation varies as may be posted in central ministries or sometime in military departments too.
Conclusion : Except 1-2 factors PCS (J) seems to have better opportunities than JAG. Well both have merit and demerit. it is upon candidates to decide keeping various factors in mind. Whoever want to join & serve for Army/Navy/Airforce but non combat department & deals with legal matters, JAG is for them but if have sole dream to work for pure justice delivery system and eager to be part of judicial system of India then PCS (J) is best option.
HOPE THIS COMPARISON MAY HELP CONSUFED ONES

"While I am a second-generation lawyer, I did not get much time to spend with my father. My first day in court was on the July 1, 2003. My father, unfortunately, passed away on August 8. So, I never got that so-called advantage. The advantage was that I was still the son of a very well-reputed lawyer. So, yes, I inherited an office. But then there was the burden of expectation. That if you do well, it was because you’re somebody’s son and if you didn’t do well, you are a blot on your father etc.
Nepotism is a very exaggerated concept. Ultimately, in this profession, it's your hard work, delivery in court and level of preparation that will determine whether you make it big or not. I believe it would be very unfair for anybody to not give credit to a person who despite belonging to a legal background does well. It has its own shares of ups and downs."

Europe was my main preference for disputes LLMs, but as you'd mentioned - I've also heard how it's tough to get a job afterwards, and how you have to complete multiple traineeships. So do you have any idea on what to do? And is it really that difficult once you get a job there to ascend the ladder? I also know a few seniors who're going up the ladder in Europe pretty fast (they're practicing investor-state arbitration and trade disputes though).
I'm also curious about an MBA but wanted more details on what an ideal profile looks like. Thanks!
1. JD accelerated programme at Northwestern University - not the traditional long term JD but Pritzker school of law is known for this program. The university will provide scholarships on three grounds - A) CGPA B)SOP C)Lsat score - one advantage this programme is giving is that straight out of law school I can sit at this programme. They will also start asking transcripts from my 4th year.
2. GMAT- I will be anyway giving the exam next year. I have started taking preparation for it as well. Eyeing the T-15 business schools. My top targets are -Haas , Virginia and Tuck. The M7 is too tough to crack. The gmat score has to be minimum 750 to get into programmes like (Yale SS , Harvard or MIT)
3. LLM - I have shown academic prowess but that’s not enough to get that Ivy League tag. So which US LLMs are job-oriented and on a whole new level of questioning , is the degree worth it over the other two programmes I mentioned?
In terms of salaries - what I observed was that for freshers, salaries ranged from anywhere between 25-35k. This year they has been some increase in this. I've heard freshers getting 7 L per annum, but not sure if it's true. At lateral levels, the situation is very different, as there are no set standards for A1, A2, A3. Which results in sometimes A3 earning lesser than A2. For laterals, it boils down to your last drawn retainer.
It's a pools systems there - which kind of feels like a mechanism to deal with shortfall on the real estate p
Even if you place at the top of your class, the chances of getting a few waiver isnt guaranteed because you aren't poor enough.
What year did you apply for that SBI loan and what was the total amount?
I have multiple health issues which won't let me work for more than 10-12 hours at a stretch in very high paced environments, so I'm not aiming for T1s rn. Any positive suggestions are most welcome.
Instead of trying again and again, maybe you should look fit something you are actually good at.

50% seats reserved in govt universities for OBC/SC/ST
50% govt jobs reserved for OBC/SC/ST
My suggestion:
0% reservation in govt universities
100% govt jobs (except foreign service) reserved for OBC/SC/ST
0% reservation in foreign service
Thus, all meritorious students, irrespective of caste, get admitted to a good university and get a quality education. OBC/SC/ST students still have their future assured as there is 100% reservation in govt jobs. General category students can go to the private sector or go abroad or join the foreign service.
1. Start a side-business in agriculture, as agricultural income is tax free.
2. Start a side-business in street hawking: earn in cash, don't pay tax.
3. Invest in MFs and trade in shares, and hope for high returns. Right now the market is looking bullish. Assuming Modi wins in 2024, it will keep rising.
4. Join politics: you can actually earn 5 crores in a day if you are successful.
And viola, not a single candidate qualified for technical. I don't think this is plausible because all candidates were very good and meritorius. It was a complete waste of 1 months time.
How can gen corp lawyers working in mid-tier firms move to bigger firms and switch to a niche practice, and is it advisable to do so?
if I am joining in-house in an organization, is the standard practice to surrender my license? What happens if I don't?
I know the letter of the law says in-house employees are not advocates. I'm looking for answers that tell me what the practice is in reality? Is it pedantic to be worried about this or to contemplate intimating the bar council about my job?
Have any of you used ChatGPT yet? is it useful for Indian laws at all or does it make up everything? Anything it is useful for?
