if I am joining in-house in an organization, is the standard practice to surrender my license? What happens if I don't?
I know the letter of the law says in-house employees are not advocates. I'm looking for answers that tell me what the practice is in reality? Is it pedantic to be worried about this or to contemplate intimating the bar council about my job?
Correctly pointed out. It was known as ALSD and used to be the only good law school in Delhi before NLU-D came about. The last batch passed out in 2022 and it was closed after that. Now only Amity Noida remains
A good rank in one exam does not define how your career will turn out to be. The people who are driven, make it big in life, be it through NLU or SLS. People getting into T1 NLUs only have to clear a written exam. The Symbiosis screening process is very strict and I personally know friends in GNLU, RGNUL and NLiU who didnt even get a seat at SLS. If we have a batch of 300, its a batch of 300 very smart kids. And then to be in the top 30% of the batch adds another advantage. Conclusively, top 30% at SLS is as good as T1 NLU kids.
Lets also talk about how SLS is the only college with no external exams in 5th year so students can focus on getting a job. This offers a lot of flexibility.
I know a lot of NLUites will say otherwise, but this is it. NLUs and JGLS are based on written format only. SLS only accepts students once they also clear the PI-WAT stage. So the quality of the students is very good and diverse. They are not a bunch of nerds but street-smart as well. JGLS is the easiest college to crack but its placed above SLS as if offers good opportunities and exchange programs.
The person who I mentioned was rank 260/280 in his batch. Yet he is in a good position today. So I am not talking about just the toppers, they would do well anywhere.
I had 0 contacts and I wanted to make it big. I now regret spending so much time over thinking and talking about how others were more privileged. At the end of the wasted time, I had to accept my reality and work with my circumstances and thats when things started work and I gained confidence with every productive thing I did. Things turned out well since I got a T1 PPO last year.
Good or bad, you made your bed, now peacefully lie in it without worrying about things which you cant change. Focus on the opportunities that pop up in present and plan for them. This will save you a lot of unnecessary overthinking and help you get productive.
Try offering long term engagements in virtual mode. Obviously, the firm will give preference to an offline candidate. Maybe do a 1 month offline internship and seek a virtual extension once you make an impression. The firm names would depend on the practice area you are interested in. Do some market research and get ahead of your peers.
since you've mentioned buddy, it's your 3rd year, you got enough time. Also by now you've had your fair share at exploring how the law works in India and fields in it. If that's the case, I'd suggest start making your niche, since if you develop a niche early it makes you less vulnerable to rejection from a boutique law firm or a firm specializing in the field of your preference.
In order to expand your knowledge in that field, take up online courses, write blogs or just express your opinion in the form of an article on any recent development in that field of law.
All this is drama and trying to look good after firing people after hiring recently. They've lost face big time and lost most of their associates to Trilegal after torturing them.
I just finished my penultimate year and have exactly 7 months during which i can intern. I'm from a non NLU college which provides 0 placement assistance.
Which firms should I target to get a PPO in Disputes practice area? I currently have an assessment internship lined up with a T1 firm, so I'm left with 6 months. Now, most T1's have a one month call back internship policy so I have to devote atleast 2 months to 1 firm.
Please suggest me 3 firms which are currently hiring in disputes vertical and are willing to offer PPO's to non NLU students.
I took drop for CLAT 23, i fucked up and now i am out of options. didnt get into ILS, GLC. I have SLS as option but the fees is too much, I take education loan work your ass off and make it worth, i have no problem with that I'll do it. I would work my ass off and get decent placement. But the things is it all seems simple on theory, what if I feel out of place in SLSP what if they all judge me for not having money, i would have 0 connection, student loans. I am also thinking of giving CLAT 24 alongside college, idk if ill crack it i just want to give it. please dont troll im already on verge of mental breakdown but please help me out.
For our college, Argus offered a CTC of 15L in the Delhi office, 16L in Mumbai and 14L in Kolkata. However, no breakup between variable and fixed pay was provided.
How does the Ahmedabad office of CAM hire? Through college cell or lateral process? There is not much info about CAM Ahemdabad online. Would be great if you could shed some light to it
Be it ABVP or NSUI, we need political student unions at NLUs, because that is the only way corrupt admins will take students seriously. For example, look at Karnataka State Law University: the students slapped Ishwar Bhat and splashed ink on his face. He resigned out of fear. At NUJS, they tolerated his misdeeds for over 10 years.
NLU elections are already political, in the sense of ideology. In general, left-wing candidates win hands won. I have never heard of a RW candidate winning. However, ironically, the same left candidates and their supporters generally end up working for firms like CAM and advancing the cause of capitalism and the BJP.
Go to UK law school if you want to ultimately go to the US - simpler. Can work at a magic circle (or silver circle and then bump up experience), and then do a masters in the US, and try to join their US office directly - Links, A&O, Freshfields have a decent-ish NY office. HSF and CC not so much.
Hey guys, how is the scene at most of the newer NLU's? I'm a clat aspirant and i came across information that NLU's were recently opened up at meghalaya and Tripura.
I wanted to know how the scene is at NLU's like Nuals, NLU-O, TNNLU, DSNLU etc.
The firm has been dying ever since Mr. OP Vaish passed. Vaish Delhi survives bucause of Mr. Vohra, and Vaish Mumbai survives because of Mr. Daruwala. The downfall is directly attributable to the fact the "senior partners" in the firm ā®ā®ā®
I once advised a CS on very basic queries concerning ICSI's secretarial standards (which is something that he should have been an expert in). I even explained my CA why his way of filing my tax return was wrong and after a lengthy discussion he agreed. So personally, even I would think about quitting if I ended up working with Chaturs like you.
A company secretary can understand everything a lawyer does but a lawyer cannot ! In fact, a company secretary does more good to the business than a lawyer who fails to understand the section's impact on the business and its operations.
Speaking from my own experience (as a law student from T2/T3 law school as well as a CS aspirant), law school in itself is a holistic experience which develops the student holistically in terms of knowledge, networking skills, research, drafting, internships, etc. So once an individual graduates as a lawyer, he/she knows how the things go around in terms of law, in general (this opinion is based on the premise that one attends a full-time law school and not by correspondence).
On the other hand, CS provides you with core in-depth knowledge about how the general corporate and commercial law works without emphasizing much upon the holistic development of the CS student. One key area where a law student will definitely have an edge is research because in the whole syllabus of CS (2017 or 2022) there are no components for research, whereas a law student from day one is taught to work on research and finding better precedence.
lol because no NLU ever had 240 students graduating in a year.
The graduating batch at NLS in 2023 had around 60 people who wanted jobs (PPO + Day Z) and all of them received offers. Now when the batch will increase to 240, around 180 people will sit for placements + PPO. However, I do agree that not everyone will get jobs but expect 100+ jobs from T1 and T2 with packages above 15LPA @ present rate and another 50 who will probably get somewhere between 10-15LPA. I expect around 20-30 people without job offers.
That said, NLS will eat up jobs from other colleges. That's for sure! The quality of a batch ranked 40 student today will shift to around 100 when 240 people will come in the batch and as such both of them will get hired in good places.
I have had my observations yes. But I am not insecure like you who will write the same thing again and again. Just because you didnāt make it to NLS doesnāt make it a bad college lmao
Omg it has been mentioned so many times. If you are talking about then you know what I am talking about. And batch rank? Dude you are still a kid. Even tier-3ās best topper canāt match tier 1ās low ranked student. So please be quiet
No idea about these guys and their backgrounds but working in a melting pot of cultures like London is bound to develop you hollistically, no questions about that.
I am a regular middle-class law graduate (2023) who has secured a 12 LPA job. No generational wealth or other sources of income. Realistically speaking, will I ever be able to buy a 5cr+ house if I continue on this law firm trajectory? I am willing to put in the effort, but unsure if it is in the right direction. Do I generate other sources of income, or what other things should I do?
The goal isn't to actually buy a house. It's to assess my future financial capability.
MBA is costlier but better for getting a job in the US.
I keep stating ad nauseum LLM is not a qualifying degree on its own, so legal jobs in a different jurisdiction (to where you did your LLB or qualifying law degree) is always difficult to get.
It's so obvious that this is a shadow game related to Mahua's criticism of Adani. She is continuing with her attacks and said that she has rejected Gautam Adani's offer of backchannel talks.
Because apart from academics there are no fixed parameters on which firms will hand out a PPO. So the usual gradation points are based on publications(moots no).
Please share the names of non toxic partners at Trilegal Bangalore basis your own personal experience. Also, work wise who is really doing good deals in the PE/Acquisition across sectors.
No, if there was no corruption, it would mean more legitimacy to law, and therefore enriching the profession.
Laws like Labor laws, mining laws are not practiced a lot, because clients prefer the hands down under route. If there wasnt corruption, Clients would approach lawyers to actually follow the law.
She's a pretty and white girl. 10000 of guys around the world will subscribe and watch her videos and comment, however shitty her ideas may be. Its like the Kardashians, or any white girl influencer.
Assuming u r a guy, dont think u stand a chance, until you also bring a white girl with you.
RMLNLU has been doing good for a while now. Increasing participation in international moots + qualifications. Wouldn't say it has the best mooting record, but definitely upcoming.
Bank job (9-5), Engineers (Sat sunday off and other days leave by 6 pm), Tier 2 firms, Any advocate, magic circle lawyers, AORs, Doctors after a few years (except some emergency related fields), chemists, scientists, Even HFT Firms guys.
I understand not many litigation people here but what is the convention regarding fee of court clerks. I have heard that they charge upto 50% of the advocate's fee. Does that mean the clerk is earning in lakhs per hearing if they are at the correct place?
One thing that I see is common among NLU D trolls is that they boast their institute while 'degrading' others. People suggesting Nalsar are mostly doing it for merits of Nalsar itself and not by shaming NLU D. But you NLU D trolls use such harsh language for an institute that is clearly heads, shoulders and leagues over you guys and it is just funny.
There are so many things to do in College, why pigeonhole yourself with constant studying. The minimum GPA required to maintain the scholarship was 6.0 out of 8.0. You could easily get this, in real terms, it was getting 65 marks out of 80. Studying a day before all internals and presentations and a day before the final exam was enough to get a 6.8 GPA for me.
I only wanted to maintain my scholarship so that my family doesn't face financial burden. I didn't want to be like some of my classmates who used to fill 10 pages worth of notes for each 2.5 hours lecture (All JGLS lectures are 2.5 hours) or sit in the library or reading room after hours of classes doing readings and preparing for the next lecture. This was too tedious, I can work when I am getting paid and learn too, but I wouldn't want to give up on experiences, exploring or enjoying myself for the same. So I was always pulling an all-nighter for all assignments of all subjects and did whatever I wanted throughout the sem, went on sports fests, hung out with friends, joined societies and clubs, participated in events and sports leagues, etc. Notes were readily available always so that wasn't an issue.
I wasn't part of the drug or party culture AT ALL. I just tried to do whatever gave me the most enjoyment rather than constant studying. There are so many things to do at JGU, so many students to interact with, I felt I would be a fool to only immerse myself in studies or daily binge drinking/drug culture.
And this approach didn't hamper me, at the end of the day I am also at a corporate job and many of my peers are at one too. At least I didn't put 10 times the effort to end up at the same place.

Have any of you used ChatGPT yet? is it useful for Indian laws at all or does it make up everything? Anything it is useful for?
In order to expand your knowledge in that field, take up online courses, write blogs or just express your opinion in the form of an article on any recent development in that field of law.
The other threads on LI says the same that this year it will be 15.6. hence. No increase.
Check bar and bench article too on kco 2022 salary.

Oh sorry , CAM Ahmedabad is not the best law firm in the country

I correct you
When you are by yourself
Correct

GMAT is still better..

Do they research or just oratory skills
Assuming u r a guy, dont think u stand a chance, until you also bring a white girl with you.
