Which partners have you met, who you think are amazing not just in terms of intelligence but work ethics, kindness, empathy and integrity? What qualities do you think they've?
I for one think ▮▮▮ ▮▮▮ (KCO) is a fantastic human being. He is humble and always grounded.
If you can get the internship, you will realise that he is a very humble and hardworking lawyer. An internship is something that matters only if you make it work in your favor, be it at the higher chambers or lower.
That said, the work is immense and you will usually find yourself in the backoffice doing research like you would do at any other internship.
Join if you do not have a better alternative. In-house salary progression depends on your initial joining payscale as the yearly increment in percentage terms are nowhere near law firms. That being said, in-house pay varies across industries and size of the organisation. Service sector will pay more than manufacturing. Advisory role will pay more than managing litigations. Make sure that you learn as much as you can in the initial months and make yourself useful in every situation. When asking for a hike, the organisation will only look at how replaceable you are. So it helps to be irreplaceable. Also be clear about CTC and pay progression roadmap for at least two years. Many companies mess around with CTC, non-CTC components and in the end there might not even be an increase in your in-hand pay.
Keep upskilling yourself in areas of interest if the current job is not in an area of your interest. One thing to keep in mind is switching jobs will always result in a higher salary than sticking to one organisation. Ideally move quickly (within 2-3 years) initially and then slow down once you reach middle management levels. Aim for 10+ lpa within the next 2 years either by negotiating a hike or switching to a better paymaster.Wish you all the best.
Just got an offer from a company for 5lpa as part of an in house team and i'm from a tier 3 priv college, to those that are in an in-house legal team, what's your pqe, how much do you make and what college are you from?
Also if there are any seniors here that can provide valuable advice for career growth prospects, pls share your insights here!
the state government has not allotted the funds yet. that is expected to happen at the next budget. it should take 3-4 years for construction to get completed.
After elections. It is expected that the TMC will suffer a setback and then Mamata will go on full populist mode, which will include 2 new campuses and a possible hike to 70% domicile reservation. NKC will oblige her because he wants an extension. Needless to say, this will reduce the funding and also the cosmopolitan character (whatever is left of it) of the NUJS Kolkata campus. The SJA is deliberately apathetic, because they are willing to sacrifice the interests of the college in exchange for high grades.
Interestingly, this comes at a time when the Calcutta High Court has cancelled 25,000 state government school teacher recruitments because of mass corruption, while the education minister is in jail in connection with this same scam. The question to ask is whether NUJS has been immune to the corruption taking place in the state, or are there lots of skeletons in the closet? If the latter, shouldn’t Chandrachud be alerted?
I’ve interned with justice karol. The people in the office are very nice, so is the judge. Gives immense opportunities to learn and brief. I would recommend justice karol
Firstly, there is NO federal inheritance tax in the US. Around 5 states levy moderate taxes on non-blood relations, that’s all. One can also circumvent taxes by opening trusts in states like South Dakota. The Congress ecosystem is spreading blatantly fake news. Only European countries have inheritance taxes but there the government also gives you a lot in return, which is not the case in India.
Secondly, the idea of a 50 percent inheritance tax in India is not only 🦇💩🤪 but will lead to a lot of corruption. The money will not be spent on health or education (unlike in the EU) but will go into the pockets of corrupt politicians and bureaucrats.
On my TL I see a lot of NLU/Ashoka/Jindal students cheering this idea with zero economic awareness. They have a childish fascination with Marxism. If the Congress comes to power and implements this idea, then India will be destroyed. Even Congress supporters like Nidhi Razdan are blasting the Congress for this dumb idea.
Pitroda’s claim of the US having an inheritance tax been debunked as a LIE across the media. Only a few states to do it and under limited conditions, for people not closely related to the deceased. Also, the range is between 5 to 20 percent, not 55. Hence, Pitroda LIED and those retweeting this claim are retweeting FALSE PROPAGANDA.
I request LI to publish this, because law students need to know the TRUTH. See below.
Not really. We can have tax slabs where people below a sudden level of assets will not be charged any tax, then 10%, 20%, and finally a max slab of 45-50%.
Inheritance tax will go a long way in correcting wealth inequality. There are maharajas in Rajasthan who live their entire life on generational wealth. This will make them work and will ultimately benefit the society.
Trust me those who actually need it won't get even 10% of it. It would be used to build some project on PPP model and common man would anyway have to bear the brunt.
Apply directly on the email address on the website. PPOs aren't necessarily a required manner, you can apply directly even without interning there as long as your application covers what they are looking for, and they have vacancy in their team.
Hey folks, I hope you guys are keeping well. I recently couldn't get through the CV selection phase in my college's Tier 1 long term internship recruitment drive. Despite having the desired percentage cut off and other pre requisites, I still couldn't make it. I was quite confident to at least clear the CV selection phase and was really looking forward to it but got a taste of competitive reality check. Nevertheless, I wish to pursue my career in the field of corporate law and still confused how to go ahead about it. Need some advice from you folks regarding approaching this, your inputs will be of great help.
Considering being in my 4th semester (3 years LLB), I wish to either join a tier 1 firm in the domain of gen corp so that can get acquainted with the work and convert that into a long term assesemnt internsip.
Secondly, if this seems to be quite not a possability as of now, maybe i can join a tier 3 or any other boutique firm in the same domain such M&A, due diligence and other
The Supreme Court on Wednesday said the Constitution intended to bring about a "sense of social transformation" and it would be "dangerous" to say that the private property of an individual cannot be regarded as material resources of community and taken over by state authorities to subserve "common good".
I would caution Rahul Gandhi/Congress fans not to cheer this observation. Remember that if Modi comes to power this same observation allows him to seize properties held by the National Herald or Robert Vadra or Waqf property that is de facto privately held.
sorry, my knowledge was short on this end. He has taken a disputes role. But either way, a great mentor and extremely extremely helpful! NALSAR alumni actually helps a lot in such regards.
As mentioned by another comment in this thread, there is a person from NALSAR B/O'24 who has secured placement in an excellent litigation firm despite being discriminated against by so-called 'Tier 1' law firms. I have had my disagreements with him but I can attest that he is extremely sincere, hardworking, and full of motivation. He was recently featured on the NALSAR LAOT Courts and Constitution Conference's Shamnad Basheer Memorial Roundtable on Disability and Law. I highly suggest you watch it, as I think it can offer a lot of positive perspective on your question. Best of luck for everything and more power to you!!
I got a response to my internship application, HR asked me my preferred months and teams and HR said I would be told about the interview soon. It has been a week now. Should I follow up or wait?
Intern even after passing out. Look for a T2 or even T3( being from du will help )firm and start interning there stick with them and you might land a job. You can also join an LLM if you along with it. Placement for us 3yr LLB students are just a joke but we have to make the best out of it.
If you are emailing people with questions like this then obviously no one will respond to you. It's not them, it's you. Do you email law firm equity partners asking how to become an equity partner?
what is really strange is that from thge list shared by everyone I count around 50 indian law graduates who are teaching abroad (supermajority with nlu undergrdaute) however if you count the number of law teachers in India with nlu undegrad it is less than two dozen!!
which means that there are more academics with nlu undergrad teaching outside india than in India
Well, Jagteshwar Sohi, Ajay Sangai, Kapur, Utkarsh Leo, and Chinmayi Deshmukh taught at NALSAR for between a few semesters to five plus years.
Danish Sheikh and Mohsin Alam Bhat offered electives. Shailesh Kumar and Anjali Rawat TA’d there.
So, they have all given back more than the person who wrote this unnecessary comment and the idiots that piled on the likes without bothering to know/determine the facts.
the supermajority of these folks have done their PhD from outside India on a scholarship, so if you want to teach abroad, you have to get your PhD from there and get a scholarship
Saddened but not surprised to see my NLU being mostly unrepresented. Pathetic faculty, grade inflation, law firm obsession and student apathy have led to this.
You can all take a guess which NLU I am talking about 😉
Is there a chance that some of the people whom you've seen with these PDFs may have vision/print disabilities that aren't apparent/visible, meaning they might be using these PDFs for accessibility reasons?
Good for you. Well on your way to becoming a pariah in your law school already. The academic publishers already make a huge profit, especially considering that they barely pay any real royalty to the authors, no money to the reviewers and little money to the editors. You're not fighting for justice here, quite to the contrary.
if the argument is that the IDF represents all of israel and that Hamas represents all of palestinians- thats a remarkably amoral way of approaching the problem. If that were indeed true- why would anyone be persuaded to have sympathy for either side? why should anyone care about this conflict if there were no innocent civilians on either side?
Ok I have got NLU Nagpur adjudication but i am also preparing for CUET BHU because i am left with nothing for next few months and i am targeting BHU. I want to go for judiciary but i also think that i will switch course to bba llb in Nagpur to look for corporate also as I want to explore it also.
What are in-house lawyers generally paid at mid senior level? Which companies pay the most? Does it make sense to switch from T1 at that PQE - what will be the salary difference?
The NHRC has released a new report titled that spans two very critical subject areas - Forensic Science and Human Rights. This is a great example of the collaborative effort between NHRC and NFSU. The foreword of this report is by Justice Arun Mishra, Chairperson, NHRC.
