they have drank the Kool aid that they are the best, they are training the students to think better etc
result: students not interning enough despite being located in Delhi
If NLUD students interned round the year the way DU students to, every single one could land a tier 1 job and be known as the Mecca for corporate/high profile litigation
But the liberal professors are destroying the career of the talented students so they can feel good about themselves
In the meanwhile colleges like NUJS, NLUJ know that their students wont get jobs if they donot intern aggressively, so that is what they do and the student bodies are able to keep the teachers in check and don't let them ruin their internship opportunities
West Bengal was once a top economic player in India (which is why it still holds the fifth rank). However, its decline is a matter of record. Despite Mamata Banerjeeβs promises, her tenure has not halted the industrial downturn. Major companies like Tata Motors (Nano project), Hindustan Motors, and Britannia have exited the state. Even ITC, Haldia Petrochemicals, and Shapoorji Pallonji have moved significant operations out of West Bengal. The stateβs share in industrial output dropped from 9.8% in 1980-81 to around 5% by 1997-98, indicating a severe decline over the decades.
If this trend continues, West Bengal could rank among the poorest states in India in the decades to come.
The advent of specialist education became very prominent after liberalisation.
IITs and NITs
NID, NIFT
IIM IIFT
NLUs
AIIMS and JIIPMER
Etc etc got the best of India but that doesn't mean that Stephen's attracts bad quality students. No. Stephen's still attract quality students.
Nowadays Stephen's, DU admissions are not that difficult compared to past. But it's still difficult.
Fellow LI Person, don't think LI comments are ever taken seriously. The firms have bigger fish to fry. If you are a fresher joining KCO and don't know what they have offered you, email the HR or call them. Legally India isn't going to give you answers.
Don't overthink it. You are at a place 100s of aspirants have tried to reach and failed. Make the most of it. You're already in top four, so don't worry. What happens 4 years later is a problem for the future you to deal with. Study well get good grades and overall exposure and things will be good.
1. Look up Flats & Flatmates South Mumbai groups on Facebook. You'll either find your flat directly without getting a broker involved β or, if not, then reliable brokers operating in nearby areas (confirm travel time through the M-indicator app): look up the brokers' post history in the groups to see if they're reliable; if they're improper or fraudsters then people would have commented such on their posts or put posts in their name on those groups. Once you have identified brokers posting properties in your budget, start sending a copy-pasted message with your requirements. Within a week, you'll probably find 3-5 viable options, assuming you have a realistic price range for the areas you're looking for. (Remember that 2024 has seen a well-documented 20-25% rise in South Bombay rents, so you may have to compromise a bit. (IMHO, 30-35k is a fair price) Pro Tip: Rent is ALWAYS negotiable if you're ready to pay the deposit upfront & sooner, especially if you're going through a broker. Paying brokerage is enough of a cost as is, make them earn it by offering them incentives in return for them getting the rent down.
2. As for the cheapest areas with ~20 mins travel time by train, I'd look for Dadar, Sion, Santa Cruz, Wadala, Sewri, and Byculla. Also look for (and maybe prioritise) closer but cheaper pockets of localities within Lalbaug, Parel, Matunga, Mahim etc. For example, there are a number of old buildings near the Ashok Gardens area which don't have a lift but the rents are far lesser.
3. Also, try looking for a vacancy in a smaller ".5 bedroom" β well known apartments in Parel & Worli have 2.5 & 3.5 BHKs where the rent for the smaller room (which fits a single bed, workstation & almirah just fine) goes around 22-25k, which would be quite a steal. All the best!
And letβs be honest, poor placement rates are (a) because they simply donβt have the sort of alumni base and corp connects that older NLUs have (b) the sort of market this year.
βNLSIU is miles ahead of other NLUs because of Sudhirβ
βJindal is an excellent law school that is doing very wellβ
Bonus: They will also go purple with resentment πΏ if you tell them that the alumni achievements of NLSIU students are way superior. And they will go blue with fever π¨if you say that the gender ratio at Jindal is very good and most guys at Jindal have girlfriends. π€£

We can never afford these, but good to fantasiseπ€€π€€

So many folks from Tier 2/3 firms and even from elite in house teams like Mahindra, ITC, ICICI, Wipro etc apply to Tier 1 firms hoping to make bigs bucks, getting better career prospects over a few years.
But the rule is almost always we discount experience. A lady from Wipro(or some it company) with 4pqe joined as A0. Banking associates from Wadia with 3pqe joins a Tier 1 as A0.
But promitions for these laterals could be faster than other A0s. Provided they show the output. But mostly laterals also quit like freshers. So nobody gets to make big bucks.
In 2023 May Global Law firm SNR Dentons launched a combination with Link Legal. Dentons is a large global law firm.
Link legal was not acquired by dentons. It's more of a brand licensing and refferal agreement. Dentons is not like traditional US UK firms who have parity in anything. Link Legal did a massive rebranding exercise with dentons. Link Legal is a Tier 2 Indian practice with some niche areas like Projects, Banking etc.
Question to those at Link Legal is?
1. How does this combination work? What are the Financials?
2. How has life of associates partners etc changed?
3. Has this combination led to any increase in business for Link Legal? Has dentons given any international clients.
Also, has link legal been able to give meaningful work or revenue to dentons?
I have seen multiple posts about people in lawschools considering CAT. So is there some other scope related to mba in law or do people attempt it purely to change their career? It would be great if someone could confirm this.
Although, I have heard of some possible prospects in law. But if someone could write down here whatever they know about this, that could help immensely.
Thanks
Is bullying people necessary? Can't you just keep quiet if you have got nothing helpful to contribute in the thread?
One of the high revenue earning partner also just left and joined other law firm.
Be it associates, be it partners. People at no level are happy with the pay. I'm really hopeful about this year's increments. If at all this turns out to be disappointing, I'm out too.
Mohit Sir,
You are investing so much for co-pilot training so that people adopt this. All of this would go to waste if those very people are not retained in the firm.
This firm had potential because people are good, culture is good, partners are nice. People won't leave if only the firm paid salary as per the market norms. Please take care of that.
And also, a firm retreat is also required on 3 year anniversary.
The stream you choose in your +2 should depend entirely on what interests you period! Otherwise the bheed that is in science won't decrease but will actually keep on increasing. Harming not just the people who actually are interested in science by fucking their mental health and chances but also those who select science just because of money. More students becoming directionless, getting fucked again and again by the entrances for the subjects they don't even care about a bit. And finally losing motivation after facing failure for the nth time.
Not every thing should be chosen according to money prospects. Happiness matters! A career will be something that you will have for your whole life. Why would anyone want to be depressed their whole life?
75% of your batch is from science because not everyone succeeds in those entrances. 99% of people in science do not end up with good colleges after their 12th, decide to take a drop and then repeat that cycle. Everyone knows this! And law being a good second option, people shift their careers. They have been doing that for a long time now and still are doing it.
Giving 3-4 chances to these entrances means giving 4 years of your life to just get a college. That is not a joke! You might have graduated recently but you don't the current situation. How burned out we get after our 12th! Drop is not a joke.
Honestly to me, you seem bitter just because your sci friends are earning more than you. 17LPA is not less. It is more than what most of the population in India earns. 17LPA might seem measly to you, but in reality it is not!
You seriously have boomer mentality. Never expected to hear this from someone of the same generation.
At the moment I am doing one compliance course. Now the problem is after much thought process I have realized that litigation is not my cup of tea. I believe that inhouse role is something that perhaps would suit me better.
However, I don't know how should I approach the companies as they would be hesitant to offer me any job at first considering my lack of proper corporate exposure. Please suggest:
1. Should I approach them as Legal trainee hoping to get it converted to legal associate job?
2. would companies even bother to approve my traineeship, given the fact that i am not a recent law graduate?
Thankyou for going through this long paragraph of the predicament that I am right now facing. I hope that you all can help me out in figuring out the right possible option.
Thanks for being patient:)
After much hard thought-processing, I have realized that the inhouse position is something that suits me best-not that I am lazy or something but I enjoy to be more on the decision making aspect of things rather than executing them. I don't know how to approach a company as all my internships have been in litigation only and I lack a proper corporate exposure.
I am aware Companies would be hesitant to directly take me in for job and that's why I want to approach for assessmentship. My questions:
1. would doing an assessmentship be good in my case?
2. how do i convince or what approach should i adopt as most of these beginner positions are exclusively for recent graduates.?
Thanks for going through this all and am really hoping that I can get some answers to my query from here.
She has described the mundane nature of Law jobs across the board, compared to consulting, engineering and the likes. Also, let's be honest, law firms are the only avenue to make any kind of liveable money. I would've liked if you mentioned examples of careers which pay even decent sums, so the young minds may consider.
Not only have you made a biased presumption, due to your lack of comprehension and experience, you haven't even made attempts to read through properly. The OP clearly mentions that PCM opens more gates. You CANNOT by regulation, even attempt engineering or medical, or any related fields without a PCMB background. A class 12 humanities student only has very few courses to pursue that would enabl3 them to pay bills for life.
It is not a huge ask, for a career to pay you decently. It's a basic human right, a human need. In 2024, you cannot pursue a course on gender rights and then also cover for your basic needs.
Litigation pays nothing. Nor does policy. Do tell us what else you know. A further educational investment is required for an academic career, which may also not be viable for everyone.
While I agree the fact that a career is interesting or mundane, is to themselves and their opinion, there is such a thing called objective boredom inducement. And that is corporate law. There is not one person who would do it for litigation money. Not one sane person who's dad isn't an amarchand or khaitan.
While there are upvotes on your comment, they are just random people not reading your flawed statements vis a vis the OP but just amused with the devils advocacy you have so disrespectfully attempted. Rather than making allegations, it would serve you good to suggest these avenues you boast of after you also clear your own credentials?
Bro you aren't getting paid to PR the college. Let your future CLAT takers know the reality of this so called Harvard of the east. More like Harvard of the Dhaaravi
After TDS, the amount will be 1.04.
TDS will claimed by filing ITR.
Idk how you guys are utterly poor at maths and tax.

Currently whatβs the best practice to follow where work is not too mundane, good money and can exit 10years down the line.
B/F, PE, TMT, IP, Gen Corp people please share your experiences.
Thank you for reading this. Good night.
If you are interested and determined to do law but can't go against your parents....then prepare for CLAT along side your engineering first year. Consider your engineering as a partial drop and work hard. Apart from nlus give exam for SLS, du 5 yr LLB, LSAT.
If somehow you aren't able to clear it then stick with engineering and explore engineering options.
Plan 2.
Treat your engineering as a graduation degree that makes you eligible for 3 yr LLB.
In your final year prepare for LLB entrance as now a days NLUs are opening 3 yr LLB courses such as NLSAT conducted by NLS,
NLUO conducts its own exam.
Another college is LLB from iit KGP that is only for engineers and provides placements into law firms and other companies in IP field.
P.S. I was in a similar situation and went for Plan2 and it is worked.
All the best.
Now some people will come and claim that DNLU, DSNLU>>>NLS
Clat asks basic level CR and Legal reasoning questions and this yearβs paper was very sub-par. In general itβs easy only. Even the toughest clat passages were a complete C-Grade rip off of GMAT and LSAT (US), even then the exam was doable.
We all have right to know.
If he maintain the transparency and trust, no one would have asking here.
for 2025 batch - 18L
Parity across Delhi and Mumbai
2024 Hirings as under:
SLSP - 7
OPJ - 5
NALSAR - 3
GNLU - 2
NLIU - 1
WBNUJS - 1
DSNLU -1
DNLU - 1
Argus is now pretty lucrative for the 2025 batch
Urge juniors about to graduate in 2025 and 2026 to consider this than the conventional T1 propaganda you are fed. Transperancy of the firm shows it's commitment towards attracting and nurturing talent. On the other hand your so called T1s including my own firm don't even reveal your package even on joining.
About time likes of SAM should die out of shame.
When a student from Kashmir University can become Rhodes scholar, why not from NLIU or NLUJ?
Keep trying.
I talked to LKS Associate last year back in September 2023. He was being paid 75k in Delhi Office.
Some say they've increased the pay to 14L i.e. 1.18L per month all the way from 75k. I don't think it's true at all.
Increase from 9.6L to 14L doesn't seem feasible.
Here's my sincere advice to first gen first year law students.
- study in exam and do well
- apply for internships 6 months in advance
- do well in internships
- PPO guaranteed from tier 1 law firm
(btw I'm in 3rd year of law school ππ)
It takes years and decades to build an institution, it's not like as soon as someone sits on the chair, things start changing. The changes that Sudhir has brought in are for the long term. The change in the quality of faculties, the development of the infrastructure is massive. The change would be visible from the batch of 2027 onwards when the increased batch size of 180 starts graduating...
