If you give clat at 22, I'm assuming you'll be 23 when you start college. 5 years, you're 28. Usually takes about 10 years on an average to be a partner. You're 38. So, I guess it depends on you, if you'd want to wait till you're 38. Regarding the placements, i don't think your age will affect them but being 28 and sitting for placements will sure be a little unorthodox to some.

I came across an article about ILS on lawctopus which was published in 2015. It talked about various issues going on at ILS ranging from hygiene to faculty related. The hygiene situation was so messed up that people were getting dengue before their sem exams and missing out on those because of that. There were some other issues too.

One thing about KCO is that they never tell you upfront about your variable / bonus component. It's usually always a range and gets crystallised only on the day you receive the bonus. Having said that, at an A2 level at KCO the fixed component is 1.75 L per month and bonus is anywhere between 4-8 L.

Much better than the old one, Nmims has 0 placement for jobs at tier 1's but a few for tier 2's. PGCL the same but a lot of our batch at NMIMS atleast the serious lot do get a PPO cause we got a lot of time in our final years without any lectures. for eg. the new batches do not have any exams in the 5th year or lectures at all so its just work for a job season.

Not a Senior Advocate or partner. Not even in India. Happened in London a few years ago. I had just gone there as an undergraduate law student at the time. Only connection with India is that the person involved - an associate at the London office of an Amlaw 20 firm - was an Indian citizen who was a year away from losing her Indian citizenship and taking British citizenship (we knew each other as she'd been my senior at school, and as her dad and mine were best mates during MBA). We were walking past some pretty fancy shops, after having discussed my applications for this type of experience that some firms have called 'first year schemes' over coffee at Starbucks (she was showing me around a bit, as I had had little time to explore the city after my arrival). She saw a watch in a shop window. Before I knew what had happened, she'd dragged me into the shop, purchased the watch and paid GBP 3000 for it without raising an eyebrow. It doesn't end there, however. She then decided that she wanted to treat herself some more and felt altruistic enough to extend it to me if I was free, which I happened to be. When I asked tremulously what she had in mind, she suggested Scott's for dinner, and that's where we went - and note for those unaware that Scott's is one of the city's most costly restaurants (a shoestring budget meal (which we did not have, at her insistence) being GBP 100).

It is. And I don't know how my peers are defending the university when we all are aware of the problems on campus due to increased intake. The simple fact is we at NLS get really less time to intern. Just one break after 3 months usme bhi in the recent June break we barely got 24 days due to the faulty decisions of the admin. Honestly, our students not getting adequate placements should be a matter of concern. The curriculum load needs to lessen so that students can also focus on internships and other co-curricular activities.

Absolutely agree. Apart from the tier 1s. Majority of NLUs are worse than TLCs. Moreover.. the grade inflation is so high that these kids thinks they're the next Chandrachur, and when they reach court, they find out they're nothing compared to others who have a free pass to intern whenever they want.

The article below has information on which lawyer drives which car. Apart from cars, another status symbol is dogs. The rarer the better. For example, AM Singhvi has an Anatolian shepherd. Then of course paintings. Even non-nepo young lawyers are buying up paintings by lesser known artists for a mere 6-7 lakhs, hedging that these artists may become super famous one day. Another status symbol is collecting vintage cars. The old rich have been collecting expensive vintage cars for many years, but now noobs with limited wealth are trying. I know a trial court lawyer in a small city, with not more than 20-25 lakhs income per year. He bought an old Fiat for cheap and spent just a few lakhs restoring it and making it look trendy and fashionable. He thinks the value and bragging rights will appreciate over time.

Not to be buzzkill, law students are not and should not be expected to add entirely novel ideas/concepts. If you do manage to do it, great! Even established scholars don't contribute novel ideas with every publication. At this stage, you should focus more on expanding your reading pool, exploring different concepts/topics, understanding arguments, making arguments. Writing blogs/case comments is a great to do that. READ, READ, READ SOME MORE, WRITE, REVIEW, REPEAT.

Another thing: When people do make novel contributions, not every sentence/para has some novelty, a lot of space is invested in engaging with existing scholarships, justifying the new ideas/concepts/arguments, defending it, responding to potential criticism etc. Whatever new you do is often very tiny, and that's absolutely alright.

I work at a T1.5 firm as an a3, I've become a become a zombie and am tired of this meaningless mundane work. Yess thats the plan! I don't know about years (plural) but i do think i will stay for at least a year before i reassess my idea of trying to shift to an inhouse. I wanted to know if theres a massive variation in my ability as a consequence of leaving it a bit earlier i.e. within the year. I was exposed to the litigation team at Delhi and it's absolutely amazing if you are interested in TMT, IP as a whole. Extremely interesting and thrilling matters, good work as an associate, good exposure. Idk about hiring but better to apply in the far end of your final year only, maybe the last 3-4 months before you graduate.

Not sure about other practice areas but litigation team is great, led by Sai sir, Sidharth sir and other very capable people. 10/10 would recommend!

Bro been there and prepared well. Landed a mid tier IIM after taking a year off from my PPO as A1. Began and resumed my law firm slog. I'll explain 2 factors to my decision'

1) the finances don't add up at all. 25L on MBA with 2 years of course which in most cases goes to 3-4 with drops. 25L also goes upto 30 with coaching and all.

2) Jobs matching your T1 salary are only via Consultancy, IB, Finance and Sales (but for the very few est colleges for sales). That is also the best case scenario. An average Joe from IIM ABC would probably not be earning too well than you as a Law Firm person in your mind 30s. Post that you may be better because equity or in cases of consultancy/IB they might be earning more but that's a problem of privilege. I don't see the point of having to fight over 7 crores or 10 crores in my ac. Both put you in upper upper middle class easily.

2) the work hours at T1s are bad compared to other standard 9-5 corp (which are also not 9-5 as many would tell you). But leave LI and talk to some lawyers not all despise their job. It's about finding the right boss and fit for the team too. Infact some lawyers like their job but almost all have been lucky to get good partners. Which is a hot or a miss right after law school. If you get a bad partner then talk to your alumna and shift in 2-3 years to better partners. Makes life easy.

We only get lawyers perspective, talk to consultants and investment bankers - they are as content as lawyers are. Work hours are fucked but good money. That's also most jobs. We get a myopic view of our career choices from people around us but before making or dedicating any time talk to passouts from IIMs too, different specialisations. They'll give you a bird's eye view of the MBA job culture. It's not easy if you want a govt job type wlb. Digressing but even CAs and Engineers who were with me in school have times when they don't enjoy their work. But that's work - you gotta stick it out.

Finally only do an MBA if you feel you wanted to from the very beginning. Which is probably not true because you made an informed choice to pick law instead of saying BBA/BCOM from a DU. If you chose law and want to pursue MBA just by the scary thought of joining the law firm life then probably not the best combos, leaving aside the very less probability you'll get a T1 MBA college. This apples to 95% of average aspirants like me, for 5% brilliant ones you can do anything they put their soul and mind to, I wish you the best. Whatever suits you.

What about the increment?

At A1 level, associates get paid around 20-23L in T-1s. Does LKS pay just as much?

Also, at SA Level, the pay is 35-42+ L. At PA Level, my brother gets paid 55-75L in KCO.

Lmk by how close does LKS matches that. I think the hike is limited to freshers.

A guy I know (T1 NLU btw) had a very strong reference, got offered the interview and messed up his interview. So, the interview by no means is a given that you will be rolled the offer. KCO is no longer lenient and linear while offering internships nowadays. Its getting selective - atleast the Mumbai side of things.

I thought that the increment letters are released in August/ September end with revised pay coming into effect (with arrears) from October end.

Is CAM discarding it's own HR procedures now? If cap marks associates can be informed prior to the HR season timelines, surely everyone else in the firm can also be informed about their revised pay? This is without going into the question of whether cap marks associates will not have to wait for arrears and revised pay timelines.

KCO has Soham Banerjee who is a PA but can go toe to toe with any partner ▮▮▮ ▮▮▮ . CAM is okay. P&A is ▮▮▮. KK Sharma not worth joining. Saraf, L&L and Dsk are dormant. TT&A has subjective views but I think it's good only.

Let there be a government in the centre that is not trying to seize power in Bengal by withholding the funds due to them including 100 days work, affordable housing project etc. You will find that Bengal will keep doing fine. If it is still the 6th largest GSDP producing state despite all the resistance from the Centre, then it is doing okay enough.

Now, the BJP, running nationwide, had 6986.5 crores and contested 542 constituencies.

6986.5 crores / 542 seats = just 12.89 crores per seat.

So, while you’re throwing around big numbers, the TMC actually had more than twice the budget per seat. With that kind of money, TMC could afford to spend lavishly on their campaign. Remember those massive rallies, extensive ad campaigns, and glossy manifestos? Yeah, that’s where all that money went. Meanwhile, the BJP, with its supposedly huge war chest, had to stretch its resources thin across the entire country.

Looks like the real high-rollers in this election were sitting in Kolkata, not Delhi.

it is not to mention a locational disadvantage, it is a factor that leads to less placements. people in nlud prefer to stay in delhi and intern because they can avail the hostel and mess facilities which saves you a good 20k a month (at least) when compared to interning in Mumbai. sure, there may be other factors influencing why nlud produces less placements, but the delhi job market is extremely saturated and the students in nlud and others clc, ggsipu, amity, slsn etc need to realise it. for someone in nluj or gnlu, they have less incentive to stay in delhi than nlud students because they will be paying similar figures in either place as a cost of interning.

people used to pick nlud largely because of the oft cited locational advantage- one of which is the presumption that u can intern in firms in delhi and get a placement but that has been largely challenged now.

not directly on the point but what must not be forgotten here is that either way, the stipend offered by the firms is so dismal, that it very much excludes a lot of people from availing opportunities that these firms offer. interning in Mumbai is extremely expensive, and someone who in not that well-off can barely afford it. sure, there are stories of hustle culture where u live terribly for a month while interning but this must not be normalised. students should be compensated fairly for these opportunities, and firms must be more accountable for this.

Dinoo is actually a wonderful person from what I hear — but as a newly minted partner, no idea about the work profile. Same with Modhulika Bose, whose juniors seem to have only good things to say about her. If you don't mind the 24×7 work hours, then even Samir Gandhi is really nice.

Apart from these, SAM has some nice, warm people (AM, for example), as does CAM (heard praise for VP a lot): but both of these places are so crammed with work that I doubt you'd get to see any of it.

On the other end, Indus & Saraf barely get core work, but the partners came off as pretty chill from my off-work communications with them. At the end of the day, you gotta take your pick, I guess.

Doesn't matter, taking admission in a decent college at an older age is much better than taking admission in a ultra crappy college like bvp that you doom you for life. If you still worry about the age factor, than take admission in any private college or local govt college, it's still 100x better than BVP.
