As a fresher, with 2 litigation internships, 6 articles on ipleaders, average grades (70%) and graduation from an extremely pathetic and expensive college (Graduate 2023), How do I survive? Should I go to recruitment agencies for a job search? I don't have any connections in the legal sphere and I am 25 (did an undergrad in Commerce from DU). I am desperate for a job and to learn but I can't find a job damn it. LinkedIn sucks, people are not even willing to give me a simple internship in their firms or chambers for the puny experience. All I find are senior lawyers with bad English (Older men) who work alone (I am skeptical as I am a woman). I tried preparing for govt. exams but I've realised that I don't have that kind of capability. Should I try legal journalism or work for think tanks or NGOs? How do I do that? Help me please :'9
Sorry to hear about your ordeal, things will get better with sufficient time even if they seem bleak now. Do you think you would enjoy the legal profession? There are also lots of other careers you could enter into that are interesting and challenging, and for which a law degree would have prepared you well.
Try emailing senior members of in house legal teams. They might be helpful. I think in house is easier to enter into so.
Also try cold emailing law firm partners although law firms are a bit difficult to enter, you might get lucky with in house people.
If you have nothing available then atleast try to intern in corporate teams of T2/T3 law firms, that ain't something too difficult to get to be honest. Apply and persistently follow up by calling the office or emailing them, things will open up for you if you are persistent enough. It will take time but it's not impossible. Just don't give up and keep trying, keep applying and keep reaching out to people via cold emails and linkedin messages even if it seems pointless and hopeless.
in house teams are more difficult to break into since freshers are not entertained. Just focus on being a long term intern/paralegal at a T3 firm since T2/T1 firms won't entertain your poor CV. Best of luck!
B.com and then LLB. Only difference is that I have 2 years PQE in litigation and graduate batch of 2020 and hence I am 2 years elder to you.
Internships application being rejected, no one is replying to messages on Linkedin or email.
Thanks to legallyindia, even anonymous responses on threads helps to maintain mental balance. I would have been WAYY more stressed had there been no legallyindia.
Anyway, if you are looking for friends similary situated and help each other, pls shoot mail - seriouspen@mail.com
