I'm obviously not sharing their names or the names of the courts. But the news has come from reliable alumni sources. The names will start coming out very soon, when the collegium makes it official.
This is a very good development because it shows that the collegium is now looking into appointing NLU alumni (who are mostly non-nepo kids) as judges. They will bring a lot of value than the current lot of judges. The only concern I have is that other NLUs like NALSAR should also be considered. NLSIU should not become a coterie like Stephen's/DU or GLC has become. Also, the trend of appointing NLU alumni judges must continue after Chandrachud retires. We can't again go back to the Stephen's/DU and GLC nepo kids coterie.
P.S. I can confirm that Gopal Shanks is NOT one of the four names. He will anyway need to lie low for a bit, after his name was needlessly smeared because of a stupid fight over a Rottweiler by two megalomaniacs.
This is great news. I don't care about the identity of the NLU. We should get more judges who are progressive, know and care about the law and at least aware of the problems facing legal education in the country. I am from NUJS myself, but I am very happy at this news, especially if it turns out to be true. Bobby is an excellent judge and I have also heard good things about Suraj, though I do not know him personally. Aditya is of course amazing, it's a pity that he missed out.
If you're worried about NLS 'coteire', then perhaps broaden your horizon from just NLUs! Or is shifting from Stephen's/ DU and GLC nepo kids coterie to 'NLU alumni judges' coterie your idea of an independent judiciary?! lol!
Itβs an open secret that many Law School alumni have been approached. Two IP lawyers have been approached to be judges of the Delhi High Court, one of whom has accepted and one declined. Two commercial law specialists will likely be appointed to Karnataka and Madras, and the Calcutta HC is expected to get one as well. This decade, I expect at least 15 alumni to be appointed in different courts. As for Gopal Shanks, he will accept nothing less than a direct nomination to the SC (unless Jai Dehadrai goes John Wick on him and does something drastic).

Shekhar Bobby Saraf (Calcutta HC)
Suraj Govindraj, MI Arun and Sunil Dutt Yadav (Karnataka HC)
Aditya Sondhi was also recommended but name was blocked by current Govt.
So it is an organic process which is bound to continue as more graduates establish themselves in the profession.
