We want LI to be one of the friendliest places on the internet, where lawyers and law students help each other with their career related queries and occasionally discuss other stuff that might affect their lives too. In other words:
1. Be kind, respectful and helpful to each other.
2. Be bona fide, truthful, genuine and curious.
3. Assume the best intention of others.

Its not your job to instill any sense of discipline.
How can saying 'sir' to your senior is an unjust system which allows cruelty and cause misery? Before you get absolute freedom of speech, learn how to efficiently use the reasonable freedom you already have.
And if you have so willing to call people on first name basis, start with your home first. Start calling your parents by their names. Charity should begin from home, shouldn't it?
Aaj senior ko sir nhi bolenge, kal teacher ko, parso Judge ko.
MNLU Aurangabad has got VC today ie 8 July 2024.
Wait for Assam....
Start practicing being okay with your own company. Eventually you will start attracting people automatically.
ALL IS WELL!
But now there is a growing chatter that MKS may come in although the BJP performed poorly.

By the way, any word on the campuses in Asansol and Jalpaiguri?
1. Why were utilization certificates not given? And how did funds continue for nearly a decade despite UCs not being sent?
2. Why doesn't CAG have access to a large swathe of dole schemes that were inspired directly by the CM? What was the Centre doing all these years? And what is it even doing now?
3. Why didn't Bengal govt go to the SC/HC for the allegedly illegal and unconstitutional stoppage of funds by Centre. Rajasthan did it. Kerala also got a degree of reprieve. The urgency and intensity with which Bengal fights for Nephew, Edu scam, Shk Shahjahan et al, why is that missing in this case? Why is the Centre tiptoeing around but not going for the kill?
One can go on. But no answers will come through. Because the "setting" has been on for a very long time. Right from the start. To TMC's credit, it has outclassed BJP everytime.
I am ex PCM student who was a dropper for engineering but changed to law so these two are my only option right now?
I stopped reading after this. This is all his doing.

I'm sure their partners make way more than 30L.
Noida - 1-1.5 hr
Gurgaon - 40 mins (cab/bike/carpool) [it takes 1.5 hr from metro because currently there is no active direct metro line from dwarka to ggn and so you have to first go to CP and then take yellow line metro]
For a metro city these numbers are very convenient. I mean ask someone who is interning in bombay lmao.
if im saving 20k on food and room rent per month for each of the 4 internship slots in a year, I am very happy to travel 40-45mins by AC metro to CP.
not to mention, it is convenient to travel to many UPSC and judiciary coaching centres and so many of us join for offline classes at these coachings even during an ongoing semester.
By the way does anyone have a copy of the letter sent to the CJ Bombay HC?
Did the smackdown of NUJS SJA letter to CJI influence ILS students not to post their letter?
Methinks despite the request from HC, the state edu dept will do nothing. At best a hogwash of an inquiry.
in absolute numbers? maybe not (reasons below). in terms of material opportunities it provides? probably better than everyone else.
again, the point is simple: the crowd at NLUD is vastly different than other top NLUs. People here are those who have specifically left supposedly better NLUs like NLS only because they wanted to stay in Delhi to prepare for competitive exams like UPSC, Judiciary etc. If you don't agree with this premise, well, that's up to you. As a student here, I am well aware about my batch dynamics. Lol if you have 40 people in a batch of 120 students preparing for UPSC, you cannot compare the absolute numbers in terms of campus recruitments with NLUs which are specifically opted for due to their corporate foothold.
"People can intern in any city during vacations without having to stay in a hostel" Sure, if everybody can afford those kinds of expenses for internships which are more often than not unpaid. Room rent would come around 10k to 20k in Delhi, then Food & travel expenses. Surely, we live in a world where everybody can afford to spend 20-30k for a 4-week unpaid internship. Imagine spending that kind of money for each of the 4 internship slots every year lmao.
Again, the range of career opportunities that were mentioned are present at NLUD to a better extent than any other NLU specifically due to the college culture, history, and location.
95% of people who seriously consider taking a job, get a job by the end of their 5 years at NLUD. Even when we had arguably the worst campus recruitments in the recent years, 40+ students from a pool (by pool i mean students who signed up for placements indicating that they are interested in taking jobs) of about 50 students (total batch size was 80) have jobs. in my worldview that is not a bad number for what have been termed as the worst numbers NLUD has seen in the recent times.
If you dont, dont lose hope. ILS still has a good enough reputation to not sink you if you're willing to work hard, apart from college.
"Digressing but even CAs and Engineers who were with me in school have times when they don't enjoy their work. But that's work - you gotta stick it out."
This is 100% true. My uncle is a CA too. Has been one for 25ish years now. I have seen him work 12hrs all 7 days of the week. He does not even get sat and sundays off. Always sitting with that laptop and typing, looking stressed and all. Few people ik recently joined workforce and from what they have told me corporate as a whole is a very toxic place and not just law one. So from this I have understood whether I do law or maybe something else, there is very high possibility that I will still have to be in this toxic culture along with working atleast 10-12 hrs a day. So it doesn't make much sense to me to change careers just because of this after spending a whole year diligently preparing for entrances.
Thankyou for all the time you took out to make me understand about mba, I greatly appreciate it but I think you misinterpreted what I actually meant. I was asking along with mba what are the other prospects in law. I have seen many people saying to others in LI that you have not explored all the options in law. So I wanted to confirm whether I actually know all of them or not. Like I know there's litigation then there's judiciary, there's in house counsel work then law firms, ngo works, investigator, upsc, entrepreneurship, academia, international law (public and private both), govt jobs. Am I missing anything else?
Either NLUs or Jindal / Symbiosis Pune.
They are the best
Anyway, the message is more important than the messenger. Why is this still going on in an elite NLU? GNLU seems to be a repeat offender. There was that infamous incident during Covid, when the second year batch at the time wrote to the VC demanding "respect" from the first year batch (which didn't even exist at the time).
US JD or MBA cost around 3 crores + inr.
You have to get H1B visa which is practically impossible. Wipro TCS Infosys applies lakhs of H1B. You don't stand a chance. H1B is a lottery visa and not skill based. You won't be taken as L1 employee.
So after your OPT expires you have to come back to India. Otherwise you have to do minimum wage jobs as illegal immigrant.
You have to stay in us with H1B for decades. Green card is practically impossible for Indians because of country cap.
Many lady law firm associates go to US, do JD /MBA and even settle that's mostly because husband's job/greencard.
Unless your fiancรฉ is American don't spend on American education. Very difficult to stay in the US as legal Indian immigrant.
Instead do an MBA/JD in Canada or Australia. Atleast you will get PR and can stay in that country.
Should I go for nfsu bba llb or nlu sonepat ba llb?
Counselling for both the colleges are on 15th this month.
He might have mellowed down now after becoming a partner/father, but the north remembers.
You cost someone their career, chances are the trauma stays with them for years/life.
For example if partners annually earns 30 lakhs now it will be 30+3.
Mujhe thoda commision mil jayega
If you want to switch from IDT, do it now. It will become really difficult later. You may find that you have to start from scratch again but put in the work for a few years and you will see that it works out.
Would doing additional courses help ?
How does lateral hiring happen- if I switch after 1year, do they hire from their website postings or only through networks?
I do feel you should be taxed for posting these inane questions.
NDA has lost a lot of practice heads in the recent past and it appears that the same may continue for 2 more practices before it stops (since there won't be many practices left)!
2. It is likely you could write the NY bar exam.
3. That would qualify you as a New York lawyer.
4. However, that is no guarantee of a job there. It is a very closed market. Your conviction that an LLM is some sort of golden key is bang out of order. Most LLM graduates there (who are foreign students with foreign law degrees) can't get a U.S. job. For foreign qualified lawyers, what they prefer is somebody who has had several years of experience in a foreign jurisdiction, with plenty of awesome connections there (in that foreign jurisdiction) from whom favours can be pulled, in order to allow Kirkland (to take your example) to gain greater access to foreign markets. Therefore, your best bet would be to work in India for a number of years, do well and then immigrate to the U.S.
5. If you really hate the thought of doing that, either compete for gaining a TC in England, or make a lateral move to a magic circle law firm in England or the London office of an Amlaw 20 firm, and apply for an internal transfer that way (not like either of these options is easy, but the India-UK-U.S. way would be better and make your CV look attractive, as you'd have experience in multiple jurisdictions to tempt U.S. recruiters with).
6. Neither of the alternatives I have suggested is stuff you can do fast, and availing yourself of any of these options is likely to take several years.
7. However, the only (reasonably) fast way of doing this which also increases your chances of getting a job is one that is, apparently, closed off to you. That is doing a JD after your Indian LLB (as you can't ask your parents for graduate study money). You are much more likely to be recruited if you have a JD, as U.S. lawyers and law firms tend to view LLM as an intellectually inferior baby JD for foreign students so the (American) unis can scam them for money.
I have a PPO in a T1 already in the competition team.
It is without a doubt that salary bands are extremely exploitative in indian law firms considering the work hours we put in. I am not afraid to work, I want to, but the value placed on it in the US by firms like Kirkland is just sm more. 225k is A LOT. even for NYC. I hope to save money for a few years and come back as an SA/Counsel to India.
Can someone therefore guide on how can we laterally move to the US? Is an LLM completely mandatory? I saw the New York Bar website stating that foreign lawyers with competent common law degrees can write NYBE straightaway for qualification. Is it applicable for us?
It surely canโt be because NLU students are right-wing, because we know that is not the case.
0 to interns
This was in 2023 so maybe he's increased the pay slightly now.
woman gets job - Ah! slept with the interview, young and beautiful, probably caressed her underparts in front of the manager, look at her 2024 privilege she can walk at 2 am at night for a stroll (https://www.lokmattimes.com/mumbai/mumbai-shocker-stray-dog-saves-32-year-old-woman-from-rape-in-vasai-a505/), or collaborate with colleagues for work (https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/hyderabad/woman-drugged-gang-raped-by-colleagues-in-car-2-held/articleshow/111470718.cms) or pursue her dream college by attending coaching (https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/jaipur/16-year-old-student-alleges-rape-in-kota-4-arrested/articleshow/107736382.cms).
Conclusion - Diversity hiring sucks!!!!, they should increase reservation for men
Unfortunately for you "man", the world has changed and more women are staying and being elevated to senior positions. So cope
The two things in one sentence is insane. Law aside, Karma is a thing bro. Be humane
First off, while the Centre and states often clash over funds, itโs important to see the whole picture. Despite claims about withheld money, Bengal has received a lot. For example, under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), Bengal got over 8,000 crores for affordable housing.
When it comes to the 100 days work scheme (MGNREGA), Bengal has been one of the top recipients, getting more than 10,000 crores in FY 2022-23. The real question is how well these funds are being used within the state.
Now, Bengal being the 6th largest GSDP producer isnโt just because of resistance; itโs also due to major central investments in infrastructure and development. Projects like the East-West Metro Corridor in Kolkata and highway developments are boosting the stateโs economy.
Plus, the Centre has backed Bengal in education and health with schemes like Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan and Ayushman Bharat Yojana.
Instead of only blaming the Centre, itโs worth looking at how the state manages and uses these funds. Effective fund utilization and good governance are key to making Bengal thrive.
On the specific issue of withheld funds, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman explained in a press statement that the Centre held back money because Bengal didnโt submit the required utilization certificates and audits properly. She highlighted the need for accountability and transparency to ensure the funds are spent correctly and benefit the people. This is a standard process for all states to maintain financial discipline and make sure taxpayer money is used properly.
And letโs not forget, TMC blaming the BJP for Bengalโs woes is a bit rich. After all, Bengalโs industrial decline started long before the BJP came into the picture. Remember the decades of strikes, militant trade unionism, and policies that scared away investors? Those werenโt exactly BJPโs doing. The once-thriving industrial hub of Bengal has been in decline for many decades, thanks to local political choices. But sure, letโs pin all the misfortunes on the central government while conveniently forgetting the long history of economic mismanagement and missed opportunities. If Bengal is still the 6th largest GSDP producing state despite all this, imagine where it could be with a little less finger-pointing and a bit more effective governance! ๐คท๐ปโโ๏ธ
