We want LI to be one of the friendliest places on the internet, where lawyers and law students help each other with their career related queries and occasionally discuss other stuff that might affect their lives too. In other words:
1. Be kind, respectful and helpful to each other.
2. Be bona fide, truthful, genuine and curious.
3. Assume the best intention of others.
Therefore, in using the site, you must agree to do your best to uphold these community guidelines.
Note that what you find here is written and moderated by anonymous people on the internet.
Therefore everything you read here is very likely unverified, rumour, speculation and/or downright false.
In continuing to read anything here, you must therefore agree not to take anything you read here as factual and that you will exercise due caution, diligence and common sense before acting on any information you may come across here.
You also agree to report any inaccurate or malicious comments with the buttons. Moderators take action within 24 hours, as required and appropriate under law.

2. Yes, it is possible to get a direct assessment internship especially if you're in your final year. Please note that the internship interview may involve technical questions - only knowing the CV may not be enough to clear the interview (like it would be for clearing internship interviews at other T1 law firms). You must study the major laws and issues concerning the practice area that you have applied for.
3. For PPO, the teams are quite selective. You're judged on your research, analytical and presentation skills. Make sure your research is thorough and your presentation at the end of the internship addresses a practical issue and provides a practical solution. A mere theoretical understanding will not be sufficient.
General Piece of Advice: Getting a PPO depends on many factors and not getting one doesn't necessarily mean that you don't have the above skills. It could be that there was no vacancy or that some other candidate was more visible to the team in that particular month.

Go for these brands if you fancy them.
Nobody (i repeat, nobody) apart from you cares what bag you use to haul your stuff.
Dont fall for this trap of this name brand bag at this level, this name brand watch at that, this name brand scotch at that.
Save your cash, invest wisely, spend on things which matter to you. I personally spend over experiences over brands.
Thus, we can only hope that The Print, the Wire and EdExLive will give neutral coverage.
Bottomline: NLUs are hyper competitive, hierarchical places where people try to denigrate others and get jealous of others. You just focus on your studies and shut out everything else. Get a good GPA and join a firm. That's it. Screw everything else.
- Partner level: Louis Vuitton office backpacks come for around 2.5 to 3 lakhs - Managing Associate level: Ferragamo or Montblanc comes for around 1.8 lakhs.
- Senior Associate: Armani will do. Around 30K
- Associate: Samsonite or Fossil for 10K to 20K is fine.

Even from Kolkata they could have easily taken a law firm owner like Nandini Khaitan of KCO or Debanjan Mandal of Fox Mandal in these bodies, or even an NUJS alum equity partner in Argus. Just disgusting how the college has become an outpost of the TMC!! 😡🤮
Can't the SJA and alumni write to Chandrachud about this dilution of standards???
The reason is simple: lop-sided development. Unless backwards states in India develop their economies, things will remain this way. Modi needs to desperately address this in his third term.
Fees.
Clients will pay premium fees to offices of firms based in NCR, Mumbai and Bangalore. Nowhere else. Not even Chennai and Hyd. Bombay office of, say AZB will get better fees than one in Chennai, if they had one there.
nujs has consistently placed about 25% more students (by volume) in law firms than nlud
please remember brand is an overall marker and not just individual components
Should I get a backpack? Or a decently sized cross-body? Please suggest good brands

1. You can post what you like.
2. If there is even the slightest suspicion you may be giving out identifiable information, they will use redacting markers to filter that out, effectively making your efforts useless.
3. As long as you go by those restrictions, nobody can really ask them to take it down. A word of advice: post what you want to as 'guest', just to remain on the side of caution.
Please don't drink if you don't want to - I'm sure no one will force you to and you'll be fine
In case it's relevant, I am from the batch of 2026 of a Tier-2 NLU.
No such support etc came through from the bleeding hearts when another female student complained against another serving SC judge (later NGT Chairperson). Likely she lacked a politically connected uncle and stupidly pursued her complaint legally, which went nowhere. Dilatory tactics continued till the SC/NGT judge retired, enjoyed sinecures and life and then passed away. Case closed.
Fractured faculty support also came through when the PA (now Secy) alleged SH by an AR Admin.
So why not now? Why isn't the associate prof coming clean regarding the evidence she has against admin and financial misdeeds of the VC, which triggered repeated SH by him. Why not make all of it available since the EC is VC's echo chamber?
Citing CAG audit UGC asked NUJS to refund Rs 13.5 lacs for expenses that were never allowed under the budget. NKC had to comply. All this is documented in the records.
But the associate professor is alleging a bigger scam involving UGC funds. Why not produce the evidence instead of sniping from the shadows and misleading gullible students?
When the TMC eventually blips out 2026 or some years later, there will be no credible opposition against the BJP. Same thing will happen in TN after Stalin; Odisha after NavPat; and has already happened in Gujarat (with Congress extinguished and AAP miles away).
Salami slicing at work
This will serve as a check for juniors and future aspirants of law.
I do not intend to take names (may use initials to establish context) and nothing will be trollish/defamatory. Will I be allowed to post and can the college actually ask you to take it down?
Thanks
By the way, NKC and Co are still playing old tricks. EC minutes exist till Dec 2023. AC till somewhere in 2022. FC is stuck somewhere in 2019 and GC in 2018. And that's just the minutes and not the agenda notes.
Will the SJA do something meaningful about this or back off because the Prez has been targeted and the teach are playing mind tricks and scare tactics with Day Zero stuff?
If all that is alleged by the complainant is "false" then what explains this panic reaction. Ofc there are faculty members who would volunteer "loyalty" and then do what they did to PIB.
Then again, why no faculty/staff support for the complainant? Not as gullible as the students?
But what surprises me is how can they (or some stupid people on this thread) think a Hindu or St Stephens grad is better than a Tier 1 NLU grad. This is just beyond me. Like a BA from Stephens wouldn't be better than a BA LLB from NLS. The sort of studies involved in a 5 year NLS LLB program would easily outshine any BA program. A simple art grad from Stephens wouldn't even have the financial acumen also. It's just old industrial perception that apart from IITs and IIMs if there are any good colleges then it's in DU. Law schools have started shining in only last 20 years or so. I am sure industry perception will also change with time.
Disputes teams in law firms only draft docs, prepare briefs and do what clerks do in small advocates offices, like literally.
It's the senior advocate who develops strategy, who's advice the client really wants, no matter you are CAM head of practice, Tataji will only want Salve's opinion on everything. The firm just facilitates this exchange and does the manual thing. The client bills the senior in crores and the entire team in half of that for this reason. Why do you think, so many partners are opening litigation chambers? Including stellar partners like Dubey etc. It's for this reason.
Just visit a court once kid, and see who is actually running the course. Not the judge, not the law firm, it's just the advocates.
I am a final-year law student from a private college and have done several decent internships in my area of interest. Now, as my final year has commenced, I feel completely lost. I feel that these 1-1 month internships are worthless and are not helping me land a job.
Can anyone who has tackled a similar situation, or anyone who has some ideas, give me suggestions about what I can do? I am willing to work hard; I just don't know the right way to reach my goal.
Thank You!
To answer your question, TMT is best bet for you. Complete your probation and start reading out to headhunters. It will also be a good idea to contact the partners you've worked with during your internships.

For others, you apply for JAG, which is till the age of 27. However vacancies are less in number. You will be commissioned into JAG branch. This involves only SSB, plus CLAT marks are needed nowadays.
It doesn't matter which university you come from since only an llb degree is required, and clearing SSB & medical is the minimum requirement to be selected for training.
Financially you can easily earn more in a law firm than in the army, as the salary is fixed. However, you get added benefits like medical, canteen, accommodation etc. Plus, I had always been more passionate for the service, so higher income was never my goal.

More US law firms are closing their offices in Shanghai as a dearth of financial activity and depressed business sentiment force them to reassess their mainland China presence. In recent months, US firms Sidley Austin, Perkins Coie, Latham & Watkins and Orrick have all closed or said they will close their Shanghai offices, adding to the departure of Weil and Akin Gump from Beijing. International companies and professional services firms have struggled to navigate China’s shifting business environment following the Covid-19 pandemic and have been affected by deteriorating relations between Washington and Beijing. In Shanghai, home to China’s biggest stock market and the country’s financial centre during an era of growing cross-border activity in the 2010s, the impact has been particularly acute for the legal sector. “The biggest factor is the drying up of M&A and capital markets work, followed by the decrease in other corporate transactions,” said one lawyer on the mainland who asked to remain anonymous. “Many firms cut staff in Shanghai first because that’s where the corporate work dried up first.” Dealogic data shows that overall M&A activity in China, including inbound and outbound deals, is running at its lowest pace since 2012, at $72bn so far this year, while domestic equity markets activity is lower than in any year since 2009. Sidley Austin, which will retain offices in Beijing and Hong Kong, said it would not be renewing its Shanghai lease in September “as part of our review of office space and attorney requests to relocate or retire”. Orrick said its decision “reflects a rebalancing of our Asia-Pacific platform, including the launch of our Singapore presence in 2021, to align with client demand”. Perkins Coie said it remained “committed as a firm to our China practice and clients”. Latham & Watkins, which still has an office in Beijing, declined to comment. Han Shen Lin, a finance professor at New York University’s campus in Shanghai, said US law firms “increasingly struggle to cover China costs” in the current operating environment. He added that state-owned enterprise clients “present due diligence or security concerns, and possibly payment delays”, while foreign multinationals “aren’t doing that many onshore deals”. “If a US legal firm in Shanghai targets local Chinese enterprises going outbound, they may only get a small referral percentage fee compared to their US colleagues who ultimately manage the engagement,” he said. Recommended Chinese business & finance China’s ‘red circle’ law firms rush to tap other markets A position paper published last week by the British Chambers of Commerce in China noted a 16 per cent decline in foreign law firms with representative offices between 2017 and 2022, citing figures from China’s Ministry of Justice. Seventy per cent of professional services firms said last year was even more difficult than 2022. “Last year and continuing into this year, there’s just a lot less business activity,” said Julian Fisher, chair of the British Chambers of Commerce in China. He added that there was now an uptick in Chinese companies going abroad. Other financial groups have closed their offices in Shanghai in recent years, including the Norwegian sovereign wealth fund Norges Bank Investment Management last year and UK wealth manager St James’s Place in 2023. Many other large businesses have retained a presence despite the slowdown. Jamie Dimon, JPMorgan chief executive, last week said parts of the investment banking business had “fallen off a cliff” in recent years, but he remained optimistic on other areas of potential growth, including asset management.

You do realise typos happen. Also how about you first learn to manifest non-plagiarised papers, better writing skills and stop begging for free marks.
GNLU and NLUD ❤️
2. They'll make you start from 'Level 0' anyway.
3. The main advantage for somebody who has interned compared to someone who hasn't is that the former can show themselves to be more job-ready (see no. 1 above) vs. those who have only learned law in theory.
NB: All of this comes about only if the internship programme is well conducted, and not one where interns are regarded as glorified coffee servers (which is the case at many law firms in India, unfortunately).
