We want LI to be one of the friendliest places on the internet, where lawyers and law students help each other with their career related queries and occasionally discuss other stuff that might affect their lives too. In other words:
1. Be kind, respectful and helpful to each other.
2. Be bona fide, truthful, genuine and curious.
3. Assume the best intention of others.

The excesses of Left and TMC often eclipses the horrors that Congress unleashed back then. Eventually history will repeat again when we get Congress/TMC mukt Bengal or India. As always, the sheep are caught between the devil and the deep sea.
Citing CAG audit UGC asked NUJS to refund Rs 13.5 lacs for expenses that were never allowed under the budget. NKC had to comply. All this is documented in the records.
But the associate professor is alleging a bigger scam involving UGC funds. Why not produce the evidence instead of sniping from the shadows and misleading gullible students?
Don't use TMC or the state law minister as a punching bag, What is the great saviour doing? Giving false guarantees? What has a certain ASG done despite knowing it all?
When the TMC eventually blips out 2026 or some years later, there will be no credible opposition against the BJP. Same thing will happen in TN after Stalin; Odisha after NavPat; and has already happened in Gujarat (with Congress extinguished and AAP miles away).
Salami slicing at work
Even from Kolkata they could have easily taken a law firm owner like Nandini Khaitan of KCO or Debanjan Mandal of Fox Mandal in these bodies, or even an NUJS alum equity partner in Argus. Just disgusting how the college has become an outpost of the TMC!! ๐ก๐คฎ
Can't the SJA and alumni write to Chandrachud about this dilution of standards???
I have no love for the TMC folks (camouflaged or otherwise) in the GC, EC, FC etc. But when the "worthies" you name were there what was their actual contribution? Despite the worthies, PIB was not only brought in but was given a full second term (by then both the Justices Mathur and Sinha Inquiry Reports had clearly established institutionalized corruption involving UGC grants)? Lord Taluk was allowed to accelerate the decline and then a thrice-rejected candidate NKC (he was rejected by NLUs Lucknow, Ranchi and Mumbai) was allowed to take over.
Scams, inquiries derailed/hushed up and new modes of corruption continue despite worthies. And the less you expect from DYC, the better. Do you actually want it in writing from the poor chap.
TT slipped through.
Hypothetically, if either the BJP or the Congress/Left had not contested, Mamata would not be CM and NUJS would either return to the control of the Left or be under a BJP dispensation.
Thus, the SJA should not be dispirited and continue the fight.
PIB eviction in 2018 started in 2014. And even the "success" in 2018 went incomplete because the SJA 2019-20 floundered and the rest is history.
Eventually it was taken over by a relative of Meira Kumari and now it is in full control of some middling real estate group (not Merlin which bought Statesman House in Kolkata), which is more interested in the land assets etc. Expect another sale soon.
Statesman now seems to be a ghost. Pity that it hasn't attracted well-meaning attention from the loaded. Although apples and oranges, LI has a similar story.
Statesman used to have a good relation with NUJS in its founding years. Why personal and institutional goodwill wasn't meaningfully converted remains a mystery.
