This is the only MSM outlet reporting on the NUJS VC scandal. Ironically, this paper isn't even published from Kolkata. I just hope that the Kolkata media are ignoring the story because of elections and not because they are cosy with the TMC regime.

TT isn't a mouthpiece of TMC but depends on the state govt for a major chunk of its finances. Speak to any TT/ABP insider and it is also well documented that TMC has successfully caused a deep split within the Sarkar family. They are feuding in the courts and tribunals but AS is pretty much out. The younger bro and his son are now dominant and they cannot afford to go against TMC.

ABP group, especially from all its print edition has had to shed a huge number of employees, closed bureaus and editions. It's troubles began well before COVID and deepened after 2021 state election.

ABP News is a different story. TMC has had a love-hate relationship with its Bengal division (ABP Ananda). Right now, the pro-BJP slant of ABP Ananda is qute evident and TMC has stepped up its hostility.

Why isn't the SJA effectively using its website? It can be used to broadcast, amplify and archive. Right now its a cobweb. Also the SJA should never underestimate the vernacular press - all mediums.

Strangely HT published a report in its Bangla edition. Also Millennium Post, largely seen as pro-TMC, also published a belated report.

Re Telegraph’s TMC bias, Bar and Bench recently reported on a case where Aveek Sarkar was fighting his brother Arup Sarkar in court for control of the company. Therein lies the issue. Aveek, who ran ABP for decades, is pro-Cong/Left and hates Mamata, whereas Arup, who took control in 2016, is a Mamata stooge. Arup recently won in the NCLT but I am sure Aveek will appeal.

Aveek had friends in CPI(M) but he hated the party. That's how he ended up having a great friendship with Madam Kindness. You should play old records of ABP Ananda to see how enmeshed they were with TMC during the dying days of CPI(M). But something soured between Aveek and Madam Kindness and the former became quite overt in pushing for regime change but that flopped in 2016. That overreach caused Arup and his son to move in. Parts of ABP group got sold off as "non-core" and the process of isolating Aveek started. CM Kindness delayed clearing bills owed to ABP group and arm twisted with other economic levers.

Aveek had to vacate dominant positions. Juggernaut Books didn't make the expected splash. ABP Online didn't take off that well. And now Arup and son are in dominant control. Somehow due to layered and complicated shareholding ABP News (including ABP Ananda) is yet to come under the exclusive control of the feuding brothers.

But beyond all this I am not surprised that ABP, The Statesman, TOI and Indian Express did not report. Certain faculty members, including alumni teach had those stories killed off when clarifications were sought.

Seriously, what really are the sins of NKC? Ofc he was well aware of the antecedents of this faculty member (then assistant prof) when he took charge of NUJS.

NKC actually went out of the way to promote this assistant professor to associate prof. However, two assistant profs (both alumni) submitted documentary evidence of academic misconduct etc. NKC couldn't make it disappear because the same was shared with some others as well. The matter was refer for preliminary fact-finding to the then Addl AG who opined that there was incriminating material. By then another advocate well-known to AG was brought in for "legal opinion" and the same was tailored to provide a loophole just enough to squeak in the promotion. NKC also held off all other pending inquiries, which would have had adverse outcomes. Those inquiries have been reactivated now.

So, the big question is what really soured between NKC and this teach. NKC did not oppose (actually he proposed) the teach's inclusion in powerful sub-committees constituted by the EC to suggest ways how pension can be provided to NUJS faculty and staff members.

So, I ask again what really are the sins of NKC esp concerning this faculty member?

Oh the naming and shaming tactic? Has it worked yet for your intended targets? Named in legal proceedings? So what? HC only directed the LCC to not get bogged down by technicalities of limitation. But will you able to prove what you allege? EC had heard you out in full. And then your ghostwritten petition via SJA. Has anything changed? NKC is on course to get a renewal or at least continue doing what keeps the powers that be happy.

And please don't rant about some political upset happening on June 4. Wasn't 2019 LS a big upset, locally? Did anything extraordinary happen at NUJS? We got NKC for Lord Taluk. Why will things necessarily change now.

So-called central forces have saturated south bengal. And yet tag teams of state police and regime affiliated hoodlums run amok. Why and how can a distant Delhi do anything here? It was and still isn't interested.

Most importantly, NKC will continue doing what he does because the profits are party agnostic.

1. NKC did not complete any of the inquiries initiated by the EC in 2018-20

2. NKC and AG did a very flimsy and hasty inquiry" into the faculty recruitment scam of 2017. In the EC, a one-pager note was submitted (not included as part of the agenda) stating that nothing was found. The EC (micro-managed by AG) conveniently did not ask for substantiation, and allowed the dodgy promotion of a founding teach etc. It was mostly about him but many others accrued benefits of "permanent" position.

3. NKC misled the EC into releasing all monetary dues etc of PIB without even concluding the inquiry. EC had put a hold on those in 2018 and kept exhorting the admin to complete the inquiry. But convenient "legal opinions" are sought from a certain advocate close to AG to draft tailor made opinions that are then used as a "cover" to allow for such latitudes. Such customized legal opinions were sought and quickly acted upon in three recent instances - the dodgy promotion of an assistant prof (who now claims SH by NKC); release of all "dues" to PIB; and similar release for disgraced former Registrar, Dr SC Mukhopadhyay. Can you see the pattern?

4. Despite discussion in the EC and his own "recommendation", NKC till date has not initiated an audit by the Accountant General, WB or even a forensic audit. Large scale violations have been flagged over all these years. Bank records were not reconciled for eons allowing for a lot of creative accounting including those involving UGC funds. By the time the "audit" if ever takes places, everything would have been wiped down. NKC knows this intimately because it had happened earlier in NUJS.

5. Despite NKC's own recommendation to EC, he is yet to initiate the inquiry into DEO overpayment and distance education courses.

6. NKC had an Admin Audit done as part of the "NAAC' process. Due to "work pressure" he invoked special powers to make a temporary recruitment (a close relative) and had it blessed by the EC. Because the folks carrying out the audit were well-known (that's how the game is played every time, including with inquiries), he ensured that the VC office is staffed "appropriately" with more admin flab. To keep a certain PA happy the position was upgraded and the aforementioned relative was absorbed into a newly created permanent admin position. More admin positions were created to be similarly filled up with loyalists. Even if NKC gets evicted, his loyalists will be around.

Also NKC isn't going anywhere. If he miraculously gets "evicted" he is likely to come back as the Director of CRSGPP or some Chair Professor. His successor and state govt will ensure that whatever happens in 2026. Evil never retires/sleeps; only burrows deeper.

7. NKC with AG assistance has ensured that a whole lot of details never reach EC. A lot gets settled at the AC and FC level and the GC similarly remains oblivious. After all, it meets and greets once a year for an hour or two and that's how dodgy annual accounts kept (or keep) getting approved till a "problematic" SJA raises hell at times. Now with SJA emaciated and divided that danger has been neutralized.

Is all this good for you?

SJA, will you be doing anything meaningful once you are done fighting or getting hijacked by the teach factions?

No one here is mentioning the most important point, which is that Chandrachud leaves in 6 months. This is the whole point of the extension. The admin hopes that Chandrachud will pass on the letter the students sent him to Gavai.

The students really need to get Chandrachud to act.

Such nice fantasies you cook up. Maybe if you had done your job instead of peddling random baseless gossip anonymously, then you might have managed to make something of your own life instead of having to vent your frustration against your colleagues. Your entire rant consisted of made up stories and it is amusing to figure out how despite all the regime changes over all these years, your inefficiency and insidiousness have not elicited any respect from neither the admin nor the students and not even your colleagues. You must lead a sad life.

Regardless of what exit polls say, Modi will form the next union government, and Mamata will remain in power in Bengal for the foreseeable future. BJP has never put up any credible threat against Mamata in Bengal so far, which may be part of a deliberate strategy too on their part.

Did a law professor (allegedly Prof KI Vibhute) get embroiled in a sexual harassment case in your law school and was an inquiry against him initiated? Was it led by a retired Supreme Court judge? What was the outcome?

This is important. Not fooling around. Nothing personal against Vibhute etc. Just the facts.

But after that he allegedly did it again at IIT-KGP Law. Apparently some SC judge led the inquiry. Unclear whether he scooted like SAK or the was indicted by the inquiry. Interesting that NKC who is now suffering allegations of SH appointed a Prof ▮▮▮ and all with blessings of the EC.
