We want LI to be one of the friendliest places on the internet, where lawyers and law students help each other with their career related queries and occasionally discuss other stuff that might affect their lives too. In other words:
1. Be kind, respectful and helpful to each other.
2. Be bona fide, truthful, genuine and curious.
3. Assume the best intention of others.
Therefore, in using the site, you must agree to do your best to uphold these community guidelines.

1. Outdated Contracts in the Entertainment Industry: Many contracts in the entertainment industry are currently in a poor state. They often rely on outdated templates from the early 2000s, many of which are void or voidable as they conflict with basic copyright law and the 2012 amendment. An experienced litigator can easily obtain interim orders to declare these contracts void on being instructed by an entertainment lawyer. This is true, and I've done this several times before. Therefore, if AI is being trained on such flawed data, it is unlikely to surpass the expertise of human lawyers.
2. Uniqueness of Entertainment Contracts: Contrary to popular belief, not all entertainment contracts are identical. Unlike other industries where contracts typically involve incorporated entities, entertainment contracts frequently involve individuals who can be narcissistic, egotistical, and stubborn. While entrepreneurs may exhibit similar traits, dealing with overconfident celebrities or artists presents a unique challenge. These agreements often include nuanced clauses such as nudity riders, option clauses, and key man clauses, which require detailed human conversation, discussion, and explanation—tasks that AI cannot yet adequately perform.
3. Additional Roles of Entertainment Lawyers: Entertainment lawyers often serve multiple roles beyond legal representation. They act as artist managers, business development advisors, and strategists, helping clients monetize their work, ensuring royalty income streams are active, and facilitating networking between creatives. While you specifically mentioned contract/agreement lawyers, it is important to note that the broader role of entertainment lawyers encompasses activities that AI is not equipped to handle anytime soon.
I agree that AI is becoming more powerful and useful, but it is not poised to replace lawyers anytime soon. I used ChatGPT to create the response above by providing my points as prompts and asking it to redraft or rewrite them in better language and structure. As far as I'm concerned, that's the extent of AI's current capabilities: rewording inputs that only human lawyers can conceive and articulate.
Being well aware that academics were not my strong suit, I compensated by participating (and doing really well) in multiple moots and ADR competitions. I also had about 8 publications at platforms of repute.
Doing this helped me build a CV much stronger than my batchmates, eventually leading me to internship shortlists at a few top firms.
I interned with the GC team at a Lower Parel law firm and ended up making a good impression on the team based on my work.
This led me to a callback internship. I toiled day and night and eventually secured an offer in my 7th semester.
Had I not been able to get a PPO then, my chances of survival at Day Zero could have been bleak due to my average-ish batch rank.
tldr; don't lose hope champ. Just keep pushing yourself to your best and you'll get through.
Another associate alloted some urgent work to all the interns and when one intern asked her about the office timings, she said the office is open for 24 hrs, don't worry about it closing. :-)
The newspaper report does make clear that people were arrested and FIRs have been filed.
Also Asansol NUJS is definitely happening. May shift to Durgapur.
PIB eviction in 2018 started in 2014. And even the "success" in 2018 went incomplete because the SJA 2019-20 floundered and the rest is history.
2. BJP hasn't really enacted any market friendly reform in the last decade, which is why the inequality, unemployment, inflation and everything else have been on the rise. You are just pretending that the few people making a quick buck at the share market is worth all that. Newsflash, the market was strong even before NDA came into power. By the way, long term mutual fund investors are fine with the market, it's people who are short sighted and go for shortcuts who lost out. If your parents are like that, then you have my condolences.
3. I thought you don't want largesse? So why take parents' money for an LLM? Get a job, save up or get scholarships. Use that merit that you flaunt.
4. People do read all types of works. The key is not to start believing in one blindly. You should try that out sometime.
And you think you're unbiased?
Please mention the city or team too.
But if she goes who replaces her? Will Modi appoint a well-educated technocrat from his advisory council, like Sanjeev Sanyal or Shamika Ravi? Or some clown?
Thoughts?
Follow-up question: How much weightage does a good batch rank hold against good corporate experience and publications while applying for T-1 internships?
Thanks in advance!!!
Somebody please tell this.
- The political discourse now shifts to reservation and subsidies, instead of privatising inefficient PSUs and enacting market-friendly reforms.
- India’s efforts to compete with China as an economic hub just took a big blow.
- If your parents invest in stocks and shares, or even mutual funds, their funds almost certainly got depleted and will probably be in the red for a long time. If you were expecting that they would fund an LLM abroad for you with their investments, ask them if they can still do so.
Honestly, looking at the comments on LI, it’s really time they replace the Marxist dinosaurs teaching economics at NLUs with people trained in neoclassical economic theory, who can familiarise students with Friedman and Bhagwati. Also, Thomas Sowell should be compulsory reading.
Interestingly, he and his family were Congis for years and JGLS has seen tons of visits by senior Cong leaders.
Also, remember that the anti-TMC votes outnumber TMC votes. If you combine the Left, Cong and BJP vote shares, it’s higher.
Have received a callback internship with JSA in the B&F team. But I have heard that unlike callbacks in other firms, getting a PPO is impossible after the callback, and you gotta do an assessment for that? Could someone vouch for this, and is there no way the partner could consider hiring with just the callback (very less time to graduation so). From a Tier 1 NLU btw
1. Core Subjects I need to focus on
2.. Do I need to be well versed with criminal and civil law, and drafting and pleading and all of that, or just having a broad idea of things would help (Cuz my college doesn't teach us)
3. Other relevant skills, and platforms l may learn them from (stuff that tier1 college students learn)
4. Does hard work compensate for the NLU tag? :)
Thanks!
Don't use TMC or the state law minister as a punching bag, What is the great saviour doing? Giving false guarantees? What has a certain ASG done despite knowing it all?
This horrible woman should reduce income tax rates by 15% across the board or resigns.
As a believer in free markets and meritocracy, and an opponent of welfarism and identity politics, I worry about the future of the country and my own future. My sister has settled abroad and I will try to do the same now.
If CBN sticks with NDA its modi sarkar all the way
will my credentials (private law school and 1st yr)work against me in my submission? How long does their team take to respond? I do not know whether my articles are worthy of publication in NLS blogs. However, what i do know is that i worked hard to research and write that article so i want to get it published at least somewhere but I have seen many comments on LI itself that their team is very un-responsive to submissions and got scared. What time should i wait for them to consider my blog and if they do not give a reply in suppose a month can i write a mail to them informing them that I am taking back my submission and submit it for consideration elsewhere or will it become useless if they do not respond. This is coming from someone who has gone through the pain of cold mailing for the first time while searching for internships and who got happy on even seeing a rejection mail from some of them.
Hypothetically, if either the BJP or the Congress/Left had not contested, Mamata would not be CM and NUJS would either return to the control of the Left or be under a BJP dispensation.
Thus, the SJA should not be dispirited and continue the fight.
The thing is, it's difficult for me to write as I have to stick my entire face to the notebook to do so. But I'm technically not "blind" either so I'm stuck in this limbo where I'm basically blind but can't get the special amenities that a blind person has.
I struggle in practical subjects like accounting in which you must solve numerous problems to grasp concepts, which seems impossible for me since I'm unable to write.
I cleared all my subjects but only 2 subjects are backlogs, these subjects being heavily practical and no theory.
I feel like maybe it's my fault, maybe I'm just lazy and can't put in some hard work and am just looking for sympathy, but I truly feel that I'm unable to clear this subject. And if I don't, I won't be able to graduate, which puts enormous tension on me since without graduation I don't think I can land a job.
What should I do? I feel like I'm being forced to compete with normal-sighted people even though I'm 80% blind. The only "benefit" I get is 30 minutes extra time for exams and that's it.
What do I do in this situation?
I thought I understood the mood of the poor masses by speaking with Uber drivers and Starbucks waiters (who all told me that they support Modi) but now I realise that Uber drivers and Starbucks waiters aren’t the masses. They are actually lower middle class and educated up to class 12 at least, which places them in the top half of the Indian population and not the bottom half.
Coming to my stocks, I bet on two small companies owned a fixer close to the BJP. My best bet is that he gets some government contracts and the stocks rise, plus there is a bull run post the monsoon and some boosters from the government. I will exit the market entirely after that, because I don’t see this government lasting for 5 years.
Why is the left so preoccupied with Palestine?
Note that one of RaGa’s closest advisors is former NLSIU VC Mohan Gopal.

It’s absolutely fine that Rahul Gandhi made a sarcastic remark about Adani yesterday and it’s absolutely fine if NLU students retweet it. But also remember this: certain T1 law firms make a lot of their money from advising Adani companies and recruit NLU students for that purpose. The poorer Adani gets, the less likely it is that these law firms will get work.
Of course, there are abundant opportunities to work as juniors to Supreme Court, High Court and trial court lawyers. No worries about finding a job with them. But last I checked, they don’t exactly pay well.
That’s the next 5 years for you.
1. The TMC leaders and their supporters in the governing bodies become emboldened. As does the VC.
2. The CJI and Justice Dipankar Datta back off and ignore the student letter.
3. Many neutral people back off, knowing that the TMC could come into power.
1. Muslim vote bank consolidation pan India. Because the BJP has treated Muslims badly.
2. Dalits in UP who vote for Mayawati shifting to the Congress and Samajwadi party. Because Dalits were attracted by Rahul Gandhi’s promise of private sector reservations.
3. In West Bengal, where there is high unemployment and lack of industries, poor people voting for Mamata Banerjee because she increased the Lakshmir Bhandar dole amount. Because poor and unemployed people need doles and will take it from whoever gives it.
4. People in Maharashtra rejecting the BJP’s dirty politics of splitting parties and the poor performance of CM Shinde.
5. Well-off Hindu BJP voters not voting in high numbers pan India because of the heatwave, travelling on holiday etc.
6. Because Gen Z is unemployed and frustrated, as evident from the result in Punjab where independent candidates demanding Khalistan won, including one in jail.
7. Because Gen Z follows Dhruv Rathee.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Assamese, Bengalis, Nepalis we know they are well represented in Big Law.
I am talking about ethnic Nagaland, Mizoram, Sikkim, Manipur and Meghalaya people.
Pissed off a lot of Haryana, Punjab, Himachal, Uttarakhand, UP youth. Very badly.
Lack of Government Jobs - Because of BJPs fiscal conservative policy they slashed government recruitment.
India is a poor country. Crores of youth dream of the few government jobs. When these few government jobs are cut. It will make youth anrgy.
2. Lack of Freebies
Rahul promised freebies which cannot be given even if entire Indian budget is given as freebies.
Women are BJP Voters. INDIA ALLIANCE got women voters because of FREEBIES politics.
3. Caste Politics
Hindus are not united. They will never be. But opposition did a good job at Caste politics.
BJP never understood caste dynamics.
Caste Politics works very well in India. That's why SP won in UP.
MUSLIM Unity - Muslims strategically voted for India Alliance.
4. Youth Unemployment
India could never make jobs like China. Even with Modi's reforms. Employment generation was very slow.
Just imagine this -
India's biggest tier 1 law firm Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas and Trilegal has less than 1000 lawyers.
One Chinese tier 1 firm (DENTONS) has 7000 lawyers within China prc and 3000 outside.
India never had manufacturing jobs even with Modi reforms.
China generated 40 crore manufacturing jobs. India barely has generated 4 crore manufacturing jobs. Very low.
5. Dhruv Rathee, Better INDIA Alliance PR
BJP got God complex.
6. RSS BJP Infighting
BJP and RSS are at a cold ear over past 3 years. RSS did all dirty work for BJP and never got any credit. This time RSS didn't work for BJP. And taught them a lesson.
7. Big bang reforms without understanding people's choices
For Example -
Farm Laws, Labour Reforms are excellent for the country. But people hate it. You loose votes when you do it.
India doesn't do reforms unless we have a gun pointed at us (LPG Reforms at 1990s and Nuclear Testing happened because we had no option)
Bikta bhi hai itna??
Firm can never ask you to pay any compensation.
Notice period is Bullshit and illegal in the Indian Context. Ashneer Grover.
Mutual funds are subject to market risks. Please read the offer documents carefully before investing.
But do note that this is a problem that persisted before the new VC-it has nothing to do with the actions of the VC. The new VC has brought no changes regarding the marking scheme or the testing scheme. Rather, batches that have seen mass failing (40+ students in multiple subjects) are trying to find avenues to clear papers.
There are some profs who do expect rigour from their students. And I am with them when they do fail students. But there are a few who are not even competent to teach their own papers (case in point: family law paper). When those profs wantonly fail students, these failing students get a chance to raise questions at the marking schemes of all the professors (regardless good or bad).
There is no gripe with the VC regarding this. He is just the authority listening to people cry.
