I'm not sure what's the reason for that. I interned in Praveen Raju's team in mumbai and received an offer, it was a great experience and the work culture in the team seems to be better than tier 1s where I interned. Plus they have offered 12 fixed and a bonus of upto 35%, bonus payout last year was also 80% according to an associate so the package is more or less what tier 1s are offering. I don't get the hate

I interned in one of the teams in SRL's Mumbai office recently. It was an online internship. They did not give me any article writing work. On the first day of my internship, they told interns would be given research work only, and that we would not be given any drafting work.

I applied for a position at their firm. The interviewer/hr was like you don't have any experience in the xyz field. 1) why shortlist a candidate based on the CV if you want them to have experience in the given field. 2) you have one job to check whether the CV matches the criteria for a job application as stated, if not send a rejection. 3) firms like SRL don't give experience opportunities but they do expect one to have experience in it. I wouldn't be saying this if there were a lot of firms who specialise in the practice areas as they do and it's not easy to get experience in data protection, financial technology, insurance technology, etc in any local firm.

I was just checking the LinkedIn profiles of lawyers working there. A huge majority of them do not seem to be from what people on Legally India call 'Tier 1 NLUs'. This is in spite of the fact that Mathew Chacko himself is from NALSAR University. Me thinks that SRL is deliberately not hiring people from the so-called tier 1 NLUs. Having worked with students across most of the old and new NLUs in the country, I can say for sure that students in old NLUs like NLSIU, NALSAR, NUJS etc. are as desperate as students from any other institutions to get placed in firms that pay as much as SRL does. In fact, I know of graduates, from the above mentioned old NLUs, settling for firms that pay much less than what SRL offers. I am certain that people from such old NLUs also do apply for intern and associate positions at SRL.

That being said, from my observation of the upvotes and downvotes patterns and comments on Legally India, it also seems to me that Legally India's users are mostly from these old NLUs. Yeah, the same guys, who do not get internships at SRL. Hence, you see a lot of hatred for SRL on Legally India.

Let me give you another example - you may find that a lot of comments on Legally India praising S&R Associates. A majority of the lawyers at S&R are from the old NLUs. Since most of the users on Legally India are from these old NLUs, you see a lot of good comments about S&R.
