We want LI to be one of the friendliest places on the internet, where lawyers and law students help each other with their career related queries and occasionally discuss other stuff that might affect their lives too. In other words:
1. Be kind, respectful and helpful to each other.
2. Be bona fide, truthful, genuine and curious.
3. Assume the best intention of others.

My dear friend, your concern for others is appreciated, but it doesn't identify the entirety of problems.
The fight is for changing the system. Problems with Tiers are just one of the results of the flawed system. What Tier 1, Tier 2, Tier 3. NLUs are failing. And not just Tier 2, Tier 3. But ALL OF THEM including Tier 1. People from Tier 1 come and bicker here to prove why one University is above the other. All NLUs and not just Tier 2 & 3 promote exclusionary education system. You would rarely see people from humble background taking admissions in these universities. If 5 people out of 120 belong to such background, then it's an exception not a norm.
Fees: Every NLU and not just Tier 2 & 3 charge exorbitant fees. Rs. 2.5 lacs per year could be now easily called as average fees for NLUs. Majority of people in this country don't have an annual income to that amount. And one wonders why does a degree in law require such heavy fee burden.
Every NLU and not just Tier 2 & 3 have admin issues. While I may agree that the authorities at 2 & 3 (generally) are more tyrannical (due to lack of proper representative authority of students, no pushback from Alumni base), Tier 1s have not completely shrug of such issues.
All NLUs promote corporatisation of legal system. While money remains one of the foundational ideal goals of an individual, NLU system has struck a deep blow to the traditional practice of law.
Not to mention, how NLUs have converted themselves into a place where students with deep pockets, who are brats of wealthy advocates and judges, take over the system and virtually diminish the balance which might be caused by an organised system.
And there are concerns. You yourself can better recall and summarise them.
Also along with NUSRL , DSNLU has a very pathetic placements cell. The professors in both of these colleges are biased and prefer their pets. Just an observation :)
IF you feel nervous to retake clat, actively work hard here. Reach out to professors and practitioners on LinkedIn, most importantly your alumni who made it into tier-1/2 law firms (I am sure there must be some) on how to improve your CV and portfolio.
Reach out to folks pursuing LLM at a decent foreign university. Make new connections with T-1 NLU ppl.
Improve your writing skills and article constructing style. Work really hard. Maybe you start your journey at a boutique firm but from there you can even go toe in toe with other law schoolsโs alumni if you are really that good.
Best of luck bro/sis.
What about the hostile administration at TNNLU, poor faculty at NLUJAA, worsening placements at NUSRL and inferior student quality in all of them including Jabalpur/Sonipat? Also bad conditions at MNLU Nagpur
We are human beings as well. Bura lagta hein jab aap suffer krte ho and the tier-1 nlus who are supposed to help you fight for their first world problems.
World didn't start existing in 2014, a lot of journalists who are marked congress stoges and anti national were the one who worked against congress till 2014.
Instead of writing bs improve yourself, it's very easy to rant on an anonymous platform
He made a lot of statements about diversity and feminism and what not, but he hasn't elevated a single female to SC, 2 of his appointments are products of nepotism.
He keeps giving oral observations about liberty and rights and all that but they are limited to oral remarks and are not reflected in judgements.
He will form a bench knowing fully well that they will decide against gay marriage and then give a dissenting judgement.
Same thing was done by UU Lalit in EWS case, but atleast lalit didn't go around acting like a messiah and giving stupid speeches.
His courts have time to hear stupid PILs about removing senior advocate system, removing E=MCยฒ and theory of evolution from school syllabus, but they can't spare enough time to hear and decide umar Khalid's bail plea, he has been In jail for years now.
Don't be mistaken, chandrchud is playing the same role as congress did in 1890s, he does lip service so liberals don't join the movement for increasing demand of accountability from judiciary, especially with regards to appointments.
A man like gogoi or Arun mishra is still better than Chandrchud, because you can depend on them to do what they say, meanwhile chandu is just a wolf in sheep's clothing.
- A rant
How this helps
1. Knowledge of hiring and internship strategy and not getting misled by HR.
2. Knowing the partner and attrition patterns
For firms
3. Knowledge common will increase changes of better candidates and not restrict to a few
SC should had atleast recognize the same couple relation so that might have paved the way to make legislation
1. How does senior advocates gets cases ?
2. Why aren't they allowed to file and meet clients directly?
3. Do they have to develop contacts with other lawyers to get cases ?
4. Do they only argue ? And not anything else?
5. What is counsel practice?
Please help.

This isn't about any employer's staffing policies or prospective employees desirable behaviour. Simply food for thought on an issue people speak about more than they speak about Manipur.

Thanks.

NON EXPERT SOOTHSAYING: The #LGBT verdict in the #SupremeCourt today will refuse marriage equality citing constitutional limits & kick it to parliament. The government will use that judgement for enacting the Uniform Civil Code with marriage equality.
"The delicious irony: UCC will be enacted in India, on the basis of an LGBT marriage equality verdict! So much for โintersectionalityโ.

Sacrificing social events- I mean come on- you're not missing the birth of your firstborn or the funeral of your father- you're missing a party maybe- that should be acceptable in a society where we value work at all. The idea that work is something that has to give way to every other want and desire in an individual's life- that one should have time to play and date and watch netflix and go clubbing and go on vacations and only in the time left over should one be required to work- is childish greedy nonsense. If farmers behaved that way you wouldn't have food to eat, If soldiers behaved that way- you wouldn't have a country. you need to contribute to society as much or more than you take from it to be a morally good person. If you think you have a pass to go through life without demonstrating the same commitment to your community and your country that farmers and soldiers do- you're admitting to being a morally inferior waste of space and no one should feel sorry for you. Every day we're in the world we need to work to make it better- and part of that is doing well at your work- making money- and spending that money to employ other people. This is how we fight poverty. When you refuse to create value- you are indulging in anti-social behavior. Stop being a consumer- start being a citizen.
hehe
2. Amendments to the competition act, draft regulations that have been published this year
3. GCR reports on Indian competition law
Good luck!
Should I assume that I have been rejected or should have some hopes for a positive response?
While some are ok with emails, some partners arenโt. But youโve nothing to lose. So fire away those emails and remember
For every 30 emails you send, maybe 1 will reply. So donโt be discouraged
Now just to be clear- I want same sex marriage for this country. I just want us to legislate it instead of destroying the seperation of powers and the constitution and any reasonable interpretation of that document to make something I want happen. And while we're on about making these laws just for homosexual couples- lets make these laws just for women and intercaste and inter religious couples as well. Hate vidhi all you want- they saw this coming a mile away- its about time liberals stopped being hypocritical and subservient to the islamic clerics and got behind a uniform civil code.
Liberals need to reflect on why they lost this one. Its a bad loss and it was avoidable if they didnt a) have the annoying quality of complaining to teacher everytime they lost on the play ground and instead got in there and fought and convinced their fellow citizens of the virtues of what they wanted and b) did not decide they and their supreme court judges were unquestionably morally better than the rest of the country so they didnt even need to engage in the democratic process as the rest of the country. Nearly every landmark progressive move in the country has come not from the court- which is by design a conservative institution- but from the legislature.
If real, extremely worrying. Shows current NLSIU students taking things for granted. Fall in standards.

2. Do a long term internship
3. They will tell you we have no vacancies, but you join as a trainee
4. They will go to campus placements and hire people who haven't ever heard of DSK but wiling to forego CAM and SAM.
The ideal rankings should be: (I have given more weight to corporate placements and ranked only the top 10 colleges, although I don't recommend choosing colleges below the top 8).
1. NLS
2. NALSAR
3. NUJS
4. GNLU
5. NLUJ
6. NLIU
7. HNLU
8. NLUO
9. RMNLU

I am a 3L student at a T1 non-nlu, and am posting on LI for the first time. I squandered away the first three semesters of law school, and did not focus on academics as much. However, during my 4th sem, for some odd reason, I have found within myself the determination and perseverance to succeed, and I am doing my absolute best to reach such ends. I really regret not finding discipline before, and now I am paying the price when it comes to literally anything that is related to my professional development. Although I believe I am on the right track, my academic credentials are not up to the mark, and I am doing my best to improve it as well. I request anyone in the legal field to provide any contact / email ID of law firms or partners, so that I can personally get in touch w them for internships and the like. I plan to mail them my work personally, and convincingly secure opportunities on my own, unlike the usual route of going through college and being ruled out merely on the basis of CGPA. I would be eternally grateful for anyone who may take a step to help me out !

Just to dissect this. If you are happy with the money you make and clients you have, and you like your independence going to law firms may not be right choice.
I understand that with age, social groups start diminishing. If it is community and friendship you seek, there are several community related tours and trips you can go on. This will hugely open up your social network.
You want to find like minded people - go to a book club, sign up for a wine tasting session. Whatever youโre into. You might end up getting new clients too
Thatโs probably a very select group of people talking about. Definitely interesting to people who are into that sort of thing. The rest of us who donโt comment or take interest because we are not interested/ not insecure about such things.
I mean just because lot of young guys like wearing overpriced Nike Jordanโs doesnโt mean you have to spend 40k on shoes. If thatโs your thing, and that brings you joy, go for it. If thatโs not your thing, use that money somewhere else.
There are people who live very humbly and save every penny so they having savings to fall back on. There are other folks who are extremely bullish, want to live life to the fullest / live in the moment and enjoy wearing those watches.
I mean - when you are sitting at 3am in the night working on the DD, all these things donโt matter. Both a Titan and a Hermes watch will show the same time.
When you grow up, you donโt care so much about fitting in. You just want to do things that make you happy. It can be having chai at Marine Drive or an expensive coffee at Taj overlooking Marine Drive.
This usually happens seniors are not able to communicate the work and implications properly, unable to boost morale of the team or unable to delegate work properly.
Law firms demand long hours, sometimes extreme hours, and to sustain in such extreme environment, itโs not just the hard work that is required, but great team management and also a clarity of what youโre working towards.
For all those folks saying - stop being entitled, or work hard
Iโm sure youโve never been in that situation where your mental health hits rock bottom and nothing in life felt worth doing. Itโs a very different zone and it can completely break you. Be thankful to your seniors they created a space where you feel like youโre learning and growing.
Make no mistake, we also worked extremely hard, jumped multiple hoops, sacrificed so many social events to secure the coveted job. Itโs not like one day we were working hard, and then the next day we just decided to stop working. What happens is - due external circumstances beyond our control we may find ourselves in such a depressing work environment, our entire will to work or will to live gets sucked out. In that graveyard, you donโt get to learn and grow, but you rot away - bit by bit everyday.
I will give you an example. I have seen toppers from NLUs forego offers from S&R, TT&A, ICUL and Trilegal (Read- best paymasters, best work cultures, good seniors, good mentorship, great promotions, equity partnership), for CAM and SAM (Read- Total opposite)
So what I am saying is, students are really unpredictable from HR point of view and rightfully so. You may them an offer an year or two before, and instead of interning mandatorily with them and staying loyal or relaxing at home for the damn last time in your life, they look for other avenues just for the thrill, the "amarchand" name. Which is why you will see CAM and SAM never make you do mandatory internships. They know however bad you treat them, the masocist kids are coming back.
And this is true for everyone. Why will an institution make you a lifetime permanent job offer by placing certain restrictions on you from looking elsewhere. Like isn't that cheating? If you dont like the offer, reject it. Let another guy interested take it. Why waste the other guy's, firms and HRs time?
I still remember the hate these women got for some prizes they won, like why? They won legendary cases. Its the same hate i see with Greta Thunberg, Malala and all other such women that they didn't do much and use the women card. Its weird because women like mother Teresa and Aung Syu ki who took more traditional and "silent" roles were applauded more, while revolutionary women are seen as disrupting the world or talking nonsense. As for men, they can do anything and still take the whole credit.
Not even in GNLU.
Also they have definitely argued the best arguments, not just for today but previous judgments as well and have been more successful than the likes of male lawyers, who dont get this hate.
Can you look at the facts with more maturity and comment?
- They are women
- They have superior educational qualifications: NLSIU, Oxford and Columbia in the case if Menaka and Arundhati, Stephen's and Columbia in the case of Karuna. More than anything, NLSIU just triggers those people from lower ranked colleges. Note also the sarcastic comments against Sudhir, Lawrence Liang, NIRF rankings, Rhodes scholarships etc.
- They were all named in the TIME 100 list, alongside some of the most famous people in the world (Menaka and Arundhati for leading the 377 case, Karuna for leading the marital rape cas)
- They are beautiful, but also brainy and articulate (a combination men are uncomfortable with)
Theres nothing you can do at this point apart from having the top rank and working very hard to beat stereotypes at university and internships.
