We want LI to be one of the friendliest places on the internet, where lawyers and law students help each other with their career related queries and occasionally discuss other stuff that might affect their lives too. In other words:
1. Be kind, respectful and helpful to each other.
2. Be bona fide, truthful, genuine and curious.
3. Assume the best intention of others.
Therefore, in using the site, you must agree to do your best to uphold these community guidelines.

Additionally, if a faculty is appointed as Warden, Dean, Proctor, ICC member, or Controller of Examination, then their work increases manifold as they have to work for these offices. For example, the Dean Academics is required to approve course outline for every single course taught in the university, Proctor is required to conduct disciplinary proceedings, Controller of Examination need to plan for regular exams, exemption exams, back exams etc.
I really need to get a life
And FYI chutiya is not an abuse in North India. Maybe she made a minor mistake by not recognising that it is an abuse elsewhere, but that's not an offence.
Sorry this is more of a personal query. I am an incoming A0 at a Tier-1 firm and want to buy my dad a car right out of college (has been my childhood dream). Wanted to know if taking a 10 Lacs Car loan a couple of months into the job is okay? Or should I wait more? Are there any factors I need to take into consideration before going ahead with this?
After the Covid pandemic, it is really hard for me to trust the honesty of my peers because I remember being in 9th standard, working my ass off and still scoring average while below average kids had a meteoric rise somehow?? and then they failed in the finals held offline :/
word on the street is GNLU has had another Rhodes Scholar
I ain't the one 'Kezually' commenting on every thread with the same Chhapri dialogue.
Also, do consider living in Bandra. Travel will be there. But you can save on rent.
In short , mail asks how to actually get into these firms.
Is it a good idea to go for it?
How is the work environment?
What's there practice area?
Is there a solid NLU specifically NLS bias?
How to break in?
Please move in with your friends (even strangers and turn them into friends) or you will compromise on your health (as you cant manage food living alone) and social life, eventually burn out and leave the career altogether.
Learn from my mistakes.
Interns: Local Train/Metro
LI also has readership of single people between 28-40s
I want to let readers of LI and extended legal fraternity know that our situation is very hopeless and helpless.
Most of us did not get to know about corporate law firms until it was very too late. Due to severe FOMO we start to litigate and dont get a decent shot at law firms. Many of my friends still dont know names of corporate law firms and different practise areas. Like they say, It takes a whole village to raise a child. In other words, a child is sum total of his circumstances and surrondings.
Unlike branded colleges and NLUs , our CVs dont look so shiny with internships and publications.
Most of us join litigation with hope of making it big one day, but you all know the success ratio and the pay in Seniors Chamber. Though we are from far flung areas but cost of living is not much lesser in our city as far as lower middle/middle class standard is considered. Just that some of us have decent home to call our own and we dont have to spend so much on Metro. That definitely gets saved.
Some students try their luck in Judicial services and ADPO/APP exams but again that is a game of chance (at least prelims).
I am writing this thread to get constructive opinion of Top Industry Professionals (Partners, HRs,MPs) to get their opinion on our class of people.
[1] Do we have hope ?
[2] Should we stick in law or change careers ?
Stop trolling with the coding bit.
No you don’t need any typing lessons. You will be at the desk for so long you everyday will end up typing fast. Rather invest in a good chair with lumbar support when working from home.
Okay, here’s what you need to know:
MS Excel
For law firms, if you’re in capital markets, you need to know MS Excel - just get familiar with adding text, numbers, tables. Excel has lot of automatic copy function where if you drag and drop, it can generate automatic serial numbering, can copy formulas across cells etc. (not advanced formulas) Having some practice of data entry in Excel is important as this can otherwise slow you down while working (it’s slightly different than typing in MS Word)
MS Word
Otherwise, lawyers mostly use MS Word.
Know how to change font size, para spacing, create tables, create numbered lists, alignment with the ruler etc.
You can Google the shortcuts used to copy paste, select entire para/ page etc, page up/ down
Law firm Task specific - for redlines - check Word Compare on MS Word/
Review docs - Split screen
Foreign firms - often use linked cross references for clause references in documents, so you can check Google that
MS PowerPoint
For client/ internal presentations - working knowledge- how to write text, create tables, shapes, add pictures etc.
All the best!
2. As far as I know, professors are still paid lakh per month, not a "rich" lifestyle but definitely a comfortable one. Moreover, everyone entering the profession knows that they won't be paid in crores.
3. Why don't universities allow industry experience people to atleast teach clinical subjects ? Like professor of practice.
4. What does that have to do with quality of teaching?
This would down voted since it's a long way and people don't understand what "grind" means or the actual structure of the judiciary. We were never meant to directly start practice in the SC, yet here we are.
So if you're looking for a long career the best is work the lower courts. If you're looking for a shortcut gi immediately to the SC.
Connection
Talent
Good family background
Everything matters
I do meet my friends 2-3 times a week but still feel lonely. Maybe because I live alone, idk.
Some weekends, I just prefer working instead of being free and lonely. At least it helps me divert my mind.
.
.
But in any MNLU, There is no Marathi Quota for General marathi people. It's just like MH-OBC, MH-SC, MH-ST.. Bla. Bla. Bla.
Ms. Dalwai is Jindal employee. University can fire her but they are simply protecting her. This letter is an eyewash.
No one will input such forms which exposes their names and details! Bad move.
2. As someone said mentorship depends on both mentor and mentee. However, if you are seeking mentorship try to understand working style of the partner and their personality and assess if that matches yours. For some what is inspirational others it can be toxic.
3. Pay is not remotely close to T1 firms. From what I know it is way lower than Finsec, Trilegal and other firms with FRP Team. Even in securities litigation pay is much better is some other firms like LawPoint and MDP.
4. Small boutique firms allow greater interaction with clients than bigger firms. However, quality of clientele determines the quality of work and again that is something you have to determine. Their SAT practice is not that big and are seen once a month or so. Apparently their SEBI practice is much better. Haven't heard much about their work in banking so is more of a securities firm
5. Being a single partner firm it is more of a counsel practice
Population and competition is so so much ! No work life balance in any field , not just law - though law is at extreme !
Just my POV ?
This phenomenon could be the reason why Woods said along with his prediction of stark correction, “But the markets would bounce back sharply due to the momentum." - read this as well before hyping your crooked Modi Sarkar.
Manmohan Singh’s Sensex points>>>>>>>Namo
The only instability is the sharp correction NOT due to INDIA being a bad alliance for growth but to it being a coalition. Coalition indicates a certain crash. This article is hyped up and Chris Wood himself seems to contradict his statements.
Atmaram Deshpande who taught us Administrative Law.
Sujata Arya, and A. Mohanty as well.

Is OLX still going strong ?
I made a google form to answer this question - it records everyone's position, their work hours and how content they are - you will get the link to the open source sheet link after you fill the form. people reading this wanting to help this individual out can fill this and also see what other 30ish associates think of their career

The Vice Chancellor had issued a show cause notice to Prof. Sameena Dalwai, and has now issued a stern warning and placed it on record against her.

Love-day aisi maar padegi na tujhe
Thoughts?
Sandeep Parekh has GREAT hold over SEBI matters in litigation. I dont feel the learning curve is better in Regstreet.
For SEBI Litigation, you can even Join a Bombay Counsel Chamber.
Trilegal and ELP also has a separate exclusive FRS practise area which is into consulting + litigation. Do dig more.
My comrades have moved on from Mahua and are fighting hard to legitimize the Hamas-
