If you're very clear that you will be working very hard, doing tedious work and doing it for the money, without any illusions about having a "passion" for the law or the minutiae of corporate legal documents you'll probably have an advantage over the average law student.
I don't think an MBA is any easier way to make money - it's just a different set of tradeoffs and T1 law compares favourably in several ways - everyone thinks their job is the worst and grass is greener on the other side but that isn't true.
Of course if you are TRULY money focussed, then entrepreneurship is the best way to get truly wealthy at a level way beyond T1 lawyers - but that has a lot of RISK. If you don't want to take that kind of risk but want money then T1 law is a good option (along with investment banking, consulting, MBA blah blah - this is why London and New York are full of Indians in those fields).
Fellow CM lawyers from these teams, could you please tell us your experience in terms of pay, team environment, and working hours?
1. What are the basics that I should know?
2. What type of work is given?
3. Any team-specific advice?
Thanks in advance.
Even as GNLU has long surpassed NLUJ in all aspects, it looks that it is closing in on NUJS with the Big-4 of NLS, NALSAR, NUJS and GNLU giving a tough competition to each other to maintain their positions.

https://www.barandbench.com/news/plea-before-supreme-court-calls-for-3-year-llb-right-after-school
The current five-year duration puts an unnecessary financial burden, plus takes away two precious additional years in a youth's life.
This plea goes smack against those who take a drop year (sometimes up to three) and then pursue the 5-year LLB degree, and exorbitant fees charged by law schools (including the state NLUs).
Truly a visionary first

1. UI UX - unless you do the full design specialisation from Srishti school or MIT Design it is difficult to get a good entry level job. All top companies hire UI UX designers after 2-3 y of experience.
Hence, you will have to struggle for 2-3y if you don't do undergrad or PG in Design. After that getting that big break is again difficult because there are many designers and sab ek se ek hai.
Also, MidJourney is a threat. It can create those homepages which you think you only can make and make it unbelievably beautiful. And there are A.I. tools available now that can convert this into Figma files. So, it is a threat. That is why I myself did not pursue it because I just did not have the brain to compete with it's design. Search App UI with Midjourney in YouTube.
Now, if you are okay with this, and ready to take a bet that it is just a threat I think you will be happy in a Design school. Ans will have a great career.
2. Law - Dekho paisa jo hai, woh Tier 1 law firm me hai for aam people with no connections. But, to get in you need to be in Top 5 NLUs + have a thick skin to stay there. Aisa nahi hai ki bahar ke log aate nahi hai, par the path is a bit longer in getting in.
Now what should you do?
- See Law is a licensing exam. Without a Law degree, specifically, you cannot practice law. But, without a Design degree you can be a UI UX designer.
Search for Saptarshi Prakash of Swiggy, Abhinav of 10kdesigners, Ansh Mehra. All are Engineers. So, you can do the Google UI UX Design Professional certification, do some 10k-15k ka internships at any point of your career and then at max do an MS of 1y and be a UI UX Designer. That MS is also not needed tbh.
So the best course of action is to do Law. Because later you won't be able to switch and get into all these T1 firms as they won't really take a 3y LLB kid (unless you are from NLS) when they have so many applications from NLU kids.
Do law. Get 3-4y experience. Then if you want to shift join 10k designers ka cohort and you are in. This way you will have some money in the bank too.
Q) How do I know this shit?
I am an Engineer. Designer. I lurk around this forum because I like law. Unexpected people, right? ☺️
He recently moved from SAM with his whole team. His team that has moved with him have been working with him for more than 3 years and that shows that he is a good boss with great leadership skills.
1000+ kids in a batch. No jobs for anyone.
But this firm was so chindi that they you had to get your own coffee (and also maybe milk and sugar, don't recall because I have black coffee anyway) if you wanted more than one single cup per day.
Spectacular results from NLUs this year, as more and more graduates are cracking the civil service exams. Do add to the results, as and when they're identified.
1. Rank 7- GNLU
2. Rank 55 - NLSIU
3. Rank 100 - GNLU
4. Rank 243 - NLSIU
2021- no hiring2022- over hiring
2023- over hiring
2024- less hiring
2025-???
Law is not friendly for gen 1 people.
Alleged continuous financial irregularities (especially when ▮▮▮ was the VC), bad hostels, worse mess food and basically no brand name. You'd legitimately be better off joining something like NMIMS or NIRMA - they are actually decent colleges.
Dont be such a snowflake!Life is NOT a bed of roses.
This generation needs to understand that life is tough. There are all sorts and if you start whining and moaning about the smallest of things then life will chew you up and spit you out!
If you're good at either field you can make good money and live a good life. There is a struggle in both. The question is what do you prefer to be doing late into the night?
I would suggest you to for Ui/ Ux it's more creative and interesting. It's has huge scope & demand in the market. Law firms & Litigation are more toxic and uncertain in terms of WLB . I would suggest yo go for Ui / ux instead of continuing legal industry. Believe me you will grow much in ui / ux industry. Legal industry has its own limitations & problems.
College and grades help you get your foot in and during day zero. If you already have an internship then the college will play no role in a PPO.
Any tips on how to get an internship extension and call back. Is it possible to get a PPO?
For PPOs: be nice (no one wants a douche in the team), you know your practice area and give out good quality work at par with an a0.
Second, after the election results, Kishore Datta will try to exert undue influence, like last time.
Third, unlike last time, things will be very different this time. Last time, the CJI was Gogoi and he nominated Rajendra Mishra. Two terrible judges with zero concern for legal education. This time, Chandrachud will be around till Nov 2024 and Khanna till May 2025. They won't be as apathetic. Also, they will probably delegate the matter to Justice Dipankar Datta, as the senior-most SC judge from the Calcutta HC. Even if Kishore delays matters till after May 2025, when gave takes over, Dipankar Datta will still probably be the CJI's nominee. Now, if the TMC does as badly as opinion polls suggest, the government will be on the backfoot and no SC judge will want to appease them. On the contrary, they will cut down Kishore Datta to size.

They think they’re activists but they’re really just badly socialised work shy over grown toddlers. They don’t do any activism for poor people or other people. They only do it for themselves. And they demand everyone treat them with kid gloves but they have poor emotional control and regulation so they lash out quite badly if you’re not pleasing them all the time.
University administrations went with it because it was the easy thing to do. So they never learnt consequences and think the workplace will change to suit them as well. They really do think work is just - hanging out in an office - watching videos on their phone , maybe playing on their computer, and then going to a high end bar to spend their salary.
I think you should fire them to be honest. A good kick in the pants would set them straight. And I think you should strongly consider hiring based on tests and on class. You should focus your hiring on people from disadvantaged economical backgrounds because that cohort stayed hungry and worked hard even though covid.
BTW do Google for Lalit Bhasin. He used to be a lobbyist and was member of the Congress party back in the 80s and 90s. Once when India Today did a story (in the 90s) calling him a lobbyist he wrote an angry letter to them claiming that he was a lawyer and not a lobbyist or fixer. I actually shared these links from India Today on LI once and will be happy to do so again if you want.
But of course Bhasin is just a token figurehead for SILF. We know who really runs SILF.
But to be honest, Corporate placements are not the only measure of success of an institution. Also, a lot of Nuals people dont prefer corporate jobs, most have enough financial security to pursue litigation at the trial court levels and then form a captive client base and do pretty well into the higher courts.
The Nuals trial court to Supreme Court case pipeline and referral system is pretty solid and efficient.
What do you mean they haven't refunded mess fees? Its supposed to be a separate account, there can't be, if done properly, a lack of refunds, AFAIK.
What is NIMLAC? Maritime law moot?
Yeah the college hardly ever sponsored moots, its USUALLY the really rich kids who aspired or went for such moots. People used to look at private sponsorships even when they went.
But the NUALS institute itself has amazing career prospects. You can join as a student and probably retire as VC there. But provided you're of high birth.
Feb not sure - although check this thread - https://www.legallyindia.com/convos/topic/348642-has-trilegal-scheduled-ppo-interviews-for-bo25-as-of-yet#comment-350204
(Hopefully not, coz I was there during Feb)
What good is LI if we can't talk about the real stuff? Please genuinely asking and bumping this up.
Some students prepare for Civil Services from their second and third year onwards, so it's not impossible, just a little difficult.
Disclaimer: not a student, but a former contractual employee
Law has more growth in terms of compensation but the latter offers more wlb. So I'm not quite sure what I want to do.
This might not be the most appropriate site to post to so my apologies, but I'm sure there must be someone who must have some experience in this who could provide some meaningful input over here.
Any response would be greatly appreciated, thank you.
they pay out 50% of their bonus in May and the rest 50% in September that also not as much as promised. It is just a trap to lure gullible associates
Heard current SA1s (2024-25) are getting around 31.20 Lakhs as fixed. No new SA1s in my team so can't confirm.
Also, what kind of salary do they offer to people with 1.5 years of experience.
And if anyone has given an interview there, what kind of questions can one expect?
▮▮▮
Just saw a tread on LI.
Gen Z should understand who the enemy is and fight the enemy.
Anyone else feel like this? What are your plans?
Should get PA2 increment this year.
Is it true that the exposure and experience to be gained at these smaller firms is of far greater value as compared to the bigger firms, especially for those at the junior levels? Please give names of such firms (if possible, even the specific teams) where there is a thriving commercial litigation/ arbitration practice, and briefing of senior counsels is done on a regular basis. General views/ opinions are also welcome. Thank you!
