Please show me the mammal that goes to the vet to get a sex change operation or the animal that cares about pronouns. I would be happy to change my mind. You would not be happy with the lack of evidence you find.
Are sex and gender roles not as strongly linked as some would argue? yes. Obviously. There are women who like work and are ambitious and cutthroat and there are men who want to take care of babies and old people. Where we disagree is that that makes them less of a woman or less of a man. You seem to be arguing that it does- explain to me why you are so wedded to gender ?
sorry- so i understand- a short haircut and fashion choices and surgeries to you- mean that one is not the sex one is? so butch lesbians are not women to you? flamboyant gay men are not men for you? you sure youre being kind or woke or progressive with that stance? Sure youre not homophobic there? I would think- whatever fashion choices one might make- even surgeries- one remains the sex one is born as. If i go get a haircut and only wear sweats and hoodies that would make me a man? or non binary? because theres something inherent in women that draws them to high heels and spinny skirts? a gendered soul? does the same thing draw women to babies and home making? should all women who want to pursue careers have to transition to men or non binary then?
I absolutely think body modification including liposuctions are awful and harmful and people shouldnt do them. Why would you imagine different? I also think people clearly die and experience great distress because of things like non-binary nullification surgeries and sex change surgeries. Please read the damn cass review, read the studies out of netherlands, read articles in the AUA journal that indicate that trasitioning increases suicidality. Read Andrea Long Chu in the new yorker who said he didnt feel suicidal until he started transitioning. Please go watch Jazz Jennings and go watch scott newgent talk. I want to live in a world where no one has to feel like they have to get these disastrous cosmetic interventions to fit in. You want to live in a world where there are no tomboys and no feminine men cause they would all transition by getting surgeries and exogenous hormones.
Read the damn cass review- they were sterilising gay and autistic kids because of gender expression- what a regressive awful thing to do - literally conversion therapy- because you had to believe in gendered souls.
Social sanction exists - very often- in religious movements- for disbelief and skepticism. "not being kind" is your version of "keep sweet and obey". If I dont agree with you you feel free to censor me instead of revising and making your arguments better or even genuinely trying to understand why anyone might disagree. You are the authoritarian.
No one here is being unkind of cruel to people they dont know- except- I would argue- people who perpetuate harmful gender stereotypes like you do.
I am actually listening and responding- youre the one censoring people because theyre saying things you dont like.
I think when we ignore material realities like sex in the real world- in favor of these fanciful unprovable gender souls idea- then you have disastrous circumstances. you have the erasure of womens rights and the breaking of womens solidarity. you have protections for women erased from the law. That actually causes actual violence.
I absolutely have educated myself. I have spent years now reading about this stuff. I am sorry but the condescension is exhausting- you dont think someone could disagree with you because they might know something you dont? How smug and self assured and close minded is that. Do you think I wanted to be dissenting to something like this? do you think i like being disagreeable?
Have you educated yourself? have you read the Cass review? or Helen Joyces book? or Kathleen Stocks book? Have you educated yourself?
My family recognised that I was still in a relatively good position, just that I would need to work harder to get to where I am now as a recent graduate vs if I were in NLS. I am proud for reaching where I am, but I also recognise that luck was a factor as well in this shitty job market.
Even in T3, be in the top 3-4 of your batch, there can be no excuses. Your parents just want to be able to boast that "my kid went to NLS/NALSAR". Fuck that, you do you. Embrace your past, climb to the future.
Were all these things about women in female bodies then? or were hindus confused about non binaries before the evil white man came? youre so ill informed and so smug- you think these are desirable qualities?
Literally every society in the world has different words for man and woman- this isnt about western prudishness- its about human bodies you ▮▮▮. We also have different words for male and female animals of most species. that wasnt an invention of the west. sanskrit pali kannada tamizh telugu hindi all have gender baked deep into the language- that wasnt because of the british.
you should learn to critically think instead of just consuming nonsense written by post modernists who will tell you they dont care about whats true.
Is the fact that Russia as a dictatorship is nominally a Christian state relevant? Or that China is a anti-religious? Religion is only one aspect of power and history and accident, it's rarely the totality as you seem to imply.
if feminists are after equal rights, why are they not protesting against this attitude of female actresses- after all this liberty far exceeds equality since males can't ever think of saying something like this.
so jahan zaada rights mile vahan theek hai but jahan kam miley vahan equal hona chahiye?
not trying to stir up a debate but as a newbie into this concept called feminism, i really want to listen to what feminists have to say about this - once again, i am open to being schooled on this topic, i just feel that maybe i am missing something here. would love to hear some thoughts. btw i am myself a firm believer in feminism but this is one incident that i just cant ignore - i want to know the logic. feel free to do this debate in a civilised manner guys/girls.
Heard really bad reviews. Please confirm.
Just like homosexuality, fluid genders, transgenderism and transexualism exists in animals too: https://daily.jstor.org/transgender-proclivities-in-animals/
And if homosexuality can be proven by external behaviour, so can any other 'queer' external expression, whether that goes to surgery or lifestyle or your fashion or haircuts.
Anorexia might be tempting to compare and might seem to share some similarities on its face, but for one, it literally kills people. But someone getting liposuction or other plastic surgery because they might erroneously feel they're fat or want to be a supermodel does not attract society's judgment or your opprobrium? So why would any surgery or such beliefs that have to do with gender or genitals?
Finally, yes, social sanction already exists for not being kind, so most people try not to be dicks to each other. So please be kind and don't rail about moderation or categorically deny the existence of trans as a 'thing', which sounds like a dog whistle and something that is potentially unkind and cruel to people you might not know. You can do better if you want to genuinely engage on the issues and have genuine questions, rather than wanting to prove only your opinion is valid.
OP, if you are reading this, not to dampen your enthusiasm or anything mate, but from what I have heard, they can get pretty nasty down there. An acquaintance of mine who is blind studied there and was prevented by a classmate, who played a trick which was way below the belt with my blind acquaintance's technology, from participating in an online competition (I won't provide further details here, because I share the mods' anxiety about potentially revealing identifiable information). For everyone other than OP, do all the shouting you like about this being a one-off and perhaps you might even be right, but also reflect on what that (somebody thinking it is okay to take advantage of a disabled person, in supposedly one of the nation's top law schools, in 2024) reveals about the place and its atmosphere.
2. Is it worn mostly by partners? Will associates be judged negatively if they wear it?
3. Is there a brand craze here as well? Is it better not to wear a tie if you don't wear a top brand?
4. What about tie pins? Can they be used as a status symbol as well?
Thanks in anticipation!

I am looking forward to get into academia and contemplated to get into IIT Kharagpur for LLM and PhD.
How the faculty is, fellowship, tie up with foreign Universities etc? Any idea?
If you want to confine yourself to scholarly sources, check out Samuel Moyn, Christopher McCrudden and Remy Debes.
Which law firms encourage the use of pronouns on CVs, LinkedIn and website profiles?
Which law firms celebrate International Pride Day?
Which law firms promote gender neutral language in daily work and fight against homophobia and transphobia?
Which law firms are fine with gender fluid clothing?
Which law firms have a full-time diversity/DEI officer, whose work includes gender inclusion?
… And conversely which law firms are hostile to it?
I think it’s important to know because current NLU students will increasingly shun law firms which are reactionary and oppose gender diversity. Already we see a waning interest in law firm careers among tier 1 NLUs, whose students wish to avoid toxic workplaces
For a start, let’s look at CAM, SAM, AZB, Trilegal, KCO, JSA, Luthra, Saraf, LKS, NDA, S&R. How are their policies?

My parents taunted me today about not getting a good nlu as I am going to a tier 3 NLU this year.
Seriously you will not get much time to do those things.. Judges still work in home on cases till late night. So forget about your college life
All the greats have had their firsts! Youtube had ""Me at the zoo", Instagram had a photo of pier number 38 at South Beach Harbour, SF, etc.
That leads me to wonder, what was the first ever thread on LI?

1. Many UK law schools have a no deferal policy for LLM's which only permits this in case of extenuating circumstances, e.g. death in the family (take UCL, for example). Therefore, check your chosen uni's admissions policy and, in case of doubt, ask them.
2. Keep in mind that you will have to explain your work experience in your personal statement. How is it relevant to your chosen specialism/subject area? How will it add to the quality of academic discussion, etc.
3. Keep in mind that most LLM applications require references from people who know you and your work quality well. They have a definite inclination in favour of academic references (i.e., recommendation letters from those who taught you during your first/undergraduate law degree), as opposed to references from an employer (so-called 'professional references'). In fact, unless you have been out of full-time education for a number of years, you aren't even allowed to submit professional references to many UK law schools, meaning that you must make sure to keep in touch with anywhere between one to three professors who taught you before (depending on where you apply, some law schools, e.g., QMUL, UCL, want only one reference, whereas others, e.g., LSE, Oxford, ask for more). Again, depending on your circumstance, e.g., if you need to submit two references to LSE, ask them what they'll be happy with in your circumstance (maybe one academic and one professional reference?). Don't fall into the trap of thinking they'll be starry-eyed over getting a nothing reference from a big name. Better to have somebody who taught you and knows your work well but who is a nobody in academic circles write your reference than have some bigshot write absolutely nothing.
4. Remember, they won't take your (Indian) work experience as a marker of fluency in English, as they don't see employer letters explaining that the working environment was an English-speaking one as a valid assurance of fluency in the language. So no getting away from IELTS. An exception may be granted if your situation is exceptional, e.g., you get a training contract straight out of law school and want to read for an LLM after that (considering that you have worked during your TC in a Majority English Speaking Country (MESC)), but there is a level of uncertainty there.
5. Keep in mind that the British have tightened (since January 2024) their visa system to now include so-called 'credibility interviews' for most applicants. The Home Office/UKVI guidance in particular asks caseworkers/interviewers to closely cross-question anyone with gaps in their studies (e.g., you graduated from your LLB in 2021 and are applying for your LLM visa in 2024) as to the reasons behind the gap. Just because you've convinced your chosen uni in the UK about this doesn't mean you have convinced immigration officials. If you can't provide good reasons for that (in their eyes), you may fall short of the "genuine student" requirement (even if you are attending a uni which is a Higher Education Provider with a Track Record of Compliance), meaning that, even if you got admitted into a good LLM, you might be obstructed by a visa refusal. While you can appeal/re-apply etc., that makes relations between you and the uni you got admitted to in the UK difficult as well, because they also have policy restrictions on how many times they are willing to issue a CAS for visa applications, so that they can safeguard their credibility/sponsorship status with the Home Office (and taking a risk averse mentality, they will see anyone to whom they have to reissue a CAS as a risk to that trust/status the government gives them).
I currently work in capital markets team in a tier-1 firm.
Does any tier-1 or decent paying tier-2 law firm (or any particular team- corporate/capital markets) allows permanent work from home with decent working hours (no specific team preference)?
Wanted to understand so that I can consider shifting to my hometown for personal reasons.
Alternatively any WFH role in decently paid policy tank.
Thanks in advance
But keen to know about others too, share some good and funny stories, please!
Come to the campus and see yourself with your parents, speak to the faculties and staff then take admission.
You want to disbelieve all of them. All of them got it wrong because what they’re saying is not what an American philosopher who hasn’t done a day of on the ground reporting would say if she even knew about hijras.
And most of these links are either quoting hijras themselves, or are quoting police officers and judges. Is the all India Hijra Kalyan Sabha a right wing conservative facist organisation in your world view ? Why would you tell people to educate themselves and listen to the community when you clearly disagree with a plain reading of what the community is saying ?
You don’t want people to educate themselves - you want people to have unquestioning belief in the moral virtue of your cause.
And you’re not the one cherry picking data ?
Maybe some schools will defer - but I don’t know about funding.
Without knowing all the above: I would suggest you apply at the end of this year - and if it doesn’t work out and you don’t get a funded position you should apply again next year after gaining work ex.
Buddy I haven't just read judith butler, I have taught her at some of the countries best law schools. I know where there are holes in her arguments because I do not exempt her work from critical analysis- do you? Why do you think primary sources quoting hijras themselves are so much worse than polished articles from harvards religion and theology department? Considering you dont actually bother to quote butler- im assuming you havent read or understood her work and simply worship her because she gives bad arguments credibility.
This isnt the times of india saying anything either- the quotes are from Hijras in the All India Hijra Kalyan Sabha- please tell me why I should not believe Hijras over and above an american philosopher who has never done serious sociological or historical work. Judith Butler primarily belongs to literary analysis and philosophy departments. Do you even know what youre talking about? why would I take her word for anything to do with a distinctly south asian phenomenon shes never had the time to study in any sort of depth? Why oh why is she someone you unquestioningly worship so much youre blind to primary sources?
Why is judith butler your ultimate diety? she really is like a pope to you people and someone whose wisdom is not to be questioned. Could it be possible that an academic who herself identifies as nonbinary has some vested interest in claiming that non binary has historical relevance? Could that possibly bias her analysis or the way she cherry picks data points to suit her story or the way she constructs her arguments?
Your evidence for the existence of hijras being non binary is the mahabharata? are you really really being for real right now? why have you turned your brain off? When people say that the proof of the ram setu is in the ramayana do you believe them? do you really think monkeys can fly? or that a woman really had a hundred children? how are you different from right wing quacks who think ancient indians knew about aeroplanes at because of jatayu or something? youre all just religious idiots- you just pick and choose different parts of religion to believe.
You picked out the first sentence from the abstract of the american urological association article. Here is the second one "They form familial relationships in the guru-chela system, or mentor-mentee." I dont know about you- but that sounds pretty cultish to me doesnt it to you? and why should I believe an MD- an oncologist- can do serious historical work anyway? do you routinely read the american urological association journal for your south asian history? I would think one read it for medical research.
Hijras are clearly a cult. Here are quotes from the harvard paper you cited: "Regardless, most hijras’ defining characteristic is leaving home to become a part of the hijra community, a community which removes itself from wider society and teaches its lessons in secret. A young person is initiated by following a guru, or teacher, who will teach the chela, or disciple, in the hijra ways of life. This includes leaving their home to live in community with other hijras, to learn the ritual roles that they perform in Hindu households. Hijra are expected to perform dances, songs, and blessings at both births and weddings of Hindus. "
It seems to me that society is not excluding them- theyre excluding themselves. They are choosing to live a certain way- to live in a particular religious cult- and to harass people for money or to think its their right to get money by intruding on weddings and births of people in polite society who actually do jobs that produce actual value.
" Still, the cultural authority of the hijra is so powerful, that the police will often do nothing to remove them. Hijras are often treated with both respect and fear."
It seems to me this is the opposite of an oppressed community no? if they can hold regular citizens and the police hostage? a sacred caste that mustn't be questioned? made entirely of males? why do you think we should all continue this practice of worshipping them? do you believe in their curses and their blessings? do you believe other sorts of religious superstitions?
"Based in Christian beliefs about gender at the time, the British named all hijras criminals in 1871, and instructed colonial authorities to arrest them on sight. However, because of their important religious functions for Hindus, hijras persisted without significant interruption. Still, nearly 200 years of stigmatization by the British eventually took a toll. While hijras have maintained their traditional rights and responsibilities at births and marriages..."
Sorry- christian religious beliefs in 1871? thats a little ahistorical isnt it? 1871 wasnt the middle ages, there were no crusades- the church had significantly receded from government- this is well after the founding of the church of england and the reformations - this is during or slightly after the age of enlightenment. But anyway- christian religious beliefs bad but hindu religious beliefs good? why? because hindus make these people into a sacred caste and people not exposed to that culturally automatically think a community isolating itself from society, demanding that everyone else pay them money as a right, and kidnapping little boys and castrating them are not likely to go along as easy? Do you think sati was wonderful as well? because english reformers sure did want to stop that widow burning? what about age of consent legislation that the british introduced even after hindu resistance? was that problematic? What about the caste system? did you know many indians resented british attempts to educate dalits because they saw this as infringing on hindu religion? do you think thats wonderful because theres certainly mention of that in hindu scripture. are you a cultural relativist? Do you think its okay for certain cultures to genitally mutilate little girls?
Why does someone who doesnt know my baby have rights when my baby is born? Why on earth are we supposed to go along with it in 2024?
The same Laxmi narayan tripathi who is quoted in your harvard article is quoted in that words without borders blog saying - of course hijras kidnap children- but why doesnt the mainstream society forgive them. Its the same damn dude. But you want to discredit as bigoted and colonial that source while elevating to truth one that more suits your narrative. Seems to me youre the one cherry picking data
Of course recent studies try to rewrite histories to suit gender ideology. thats what im saying is happening. The same dudes who in 1995 and 2005 claimed that they were abducted and auctioned and forcibly castrated and now coming up with gendered souls as a way to whitewash their cult. Why should I buy any of this newspeak when your side cannot keep its story straight? Other civil rights movements dont operate on this deceit. Women and Black people and dalit people do not do this- they could always clearly tell you why they were oppressed- how they were oppressed- and how what liberation and freedom meant for them. None of those communities argued that when they committed serious crimes such as kidnapping, assault, rape, castration- we should not hold them accountable because they have no moral agency. Indeed many of those movements worked to be seen as equally morally capable as straight white men. None of those communities were venerated the way this cult is or have gotten as much of a pass to harass people in mainstream society as much as Hijras have. And yet Hijras you would have us believe are the "most marginalised" of all. Its ridiculous that you think this passes as rigorous or convincing argument or evidence.
Came across one Naina Rathore. She has very good understanding of the market because she is also a lawyer. Worth the time !
> Pays less because they are learning and you are teaching.
>Doesn't want to teach wants kids who are already trained.
Bro then pay them like they're trained. The only reason corp pays so much is not soley because they bill more. It is because if you don't pay, the best will always switch or leave. Nothing wrong if you want to pay less, except the same quality of candidates then.
Id rather slog my ass in a t1 dispute team and waste my potential rather than take money from home at an age of 24 to support myself.
And do you have any idea for PwC India?
What is the pay scale for law graduate fresher joining there.
Ultimately, you should decide the practice area that works the best for you and intern at SRL/quillon accordingly. SRL is good at marketing on LinkedIn but that does not mean quillon does not have a name for itself in the industry. Dont even think about stipend at this stage in your internship. Does not matter if you get 10-15K rs as stipend for a month or two. Decide what suits you the best as per preferred practice area.
Law as a field, particularly corporate law, is always a secondary service to a larger industry. So you don’t have entrepreneurial freedoms or perks. It’s a cog in a much larger machine, an easily replaceable one at that. So try finding another field which is more suited for your needs if you’re a first generation. This is the only genuine advice I can give you, and you have time to make change so that you don’t fall for the sunk cost fallacy.

It is sad that hamas uses human shields
But this can not be allowed to stand, hamas cannot be spared because they use human shields and embeds itself in the most densely populated places
Also islam is a political religion and its stated goal is to conquer and convert the whole world. Some people won’t just bend over, some people will resist. Please get used to it.
1) He keeps criticising NLUs on social media (rightly) as overhyped and says that TLC grads can outdo NLU grads.
2) He is openly Centre-right and often criticises woke ideology on social media. He openly took on a certain GNLU grad influencer (darling of the left) who tried to cancel LawSikho.
Just admit it: this is the only reason you people hate him and you get jealous if he does well. You people keep raking up the dating webinar. Well, he apologised for it repeatedly. What more do you want?? He also didn’t do anything illegal. Some of your NLU alumni have done things that are a million times worse (plus illegal) yet they strut about arrogantly.
