what do you want to do in the UK?

if you want to be a solicitor in the UK, the first question you have to answer is what extra can you bring to the table? ambition is not enough, what would be your USP? to be a fully qualified solicitor you need 2 PQE and pass SQE 1&2. You can do the prep with online courses from Uni of law (they were Aakash of the UK, now they have become a uni). However, once you are qualified what are you going to do next? Law firms dont want to hire international students/solicitors (unless they bring something special), they want pale male stale even if the brochures look suspiciously well balanced. to become an independent solicitor you would need around 3 crores INR, if you walk the streets of southall or any of the ethnically dominated streets you would find such street lawyers on each corner, they charge 1500 GBP for filing immigration application (not assylum but just regular visa application). Would you like to hustle?

if you dont want to go the SQE route, you can check out the CILEX, this is like a part time lawyer route, you can do conveyancing and a bunch of other stuff, however, with gne-AI coming in most of the low level drafting stuff is out of the window, clients now dont want to spend 5000 GBP for lawyers, they would represent themselves in the court, FT has a nice article on impact of AI on low level lawyers, who are now starved of clients, the court system is quite streamlined in the UK, so navigating is not a problem, previously the value added from solicitors were they would draft the petitiotn, however, now AI can do a better job for example in an employment tribunal where the matters are mostly factual with a sprinkling of law.

the only thing that you can do without much effort is to become an immigration adviser, you need to pass a couple of exams IAA. prep in india, Come to the UK on a tourist visa, give exam go back. once you pass the exam, find out the cheapest masters programme in a third rate uni, costs should be less than 10k GBP, come to the UK, open your own shop giving immigration advice, get on the assylum panel, you would print money, after your degree you have 18 more months of post study visa, your aim should be earn as much as you can, so that you can apply for the own company visa (target is 80k pa, if you can get 80 clients, you shall reach that). or you can do what a lot of South Asians do, find a british person and marry them.

Hi all, I got recommended for a PPO after an my internship with T1 firm earlier this year. I recieved great overall feedback from the team including the partner during my time there. Had my PPO interview with a seperate partner some time back and got to know through someone who spoke to that partner that they recommended me for hiring. I was in contact with my mentor and associates I worked with throughout this time and they always gave a positive response whenever I followed up, even assuring the team is trying to get it converted.

Despite all this, I recently was recently informed by a senior in the team that after speaking to the partner, they can't extend an offer as the team isn't hiring (I was told otherwise explicitly) and the HR is also being difficult about it at this stage.

This came as quite the shocker and I'm left hopeless as I don't have any other options. I know the reason they gave might not be exactly that but is this a common thing? Any tips on what to do ahead? I've been cold mailing partners and firms ever since then but have had no responses. Any advice is appreciated as I'm losing my mind with every passing day. Thanks all

The only reason I am glad that my mother and my schoolteachers forced me to take Computer and Maths Olympiad exams many years in a row is because of one stock option that used to be available in a lot of those multiple choice questions: "none of these". From both media and conversations with friends and relatives, it seems that Gen Alpha is having an old-school upbringing, because parents are pushing back against the digital-centric upbringing that Gen Z had. Gen Alpha spends less time on social media and their phones. They plays sports and board games. Also reading books including really retro books, which were cancelled by Gen Z because of being politically incorrect.

So what happens when such a generation takes over the law school student body? Will they be less radical than Gen Z?

So I have an interview next week at NLUO. I have a NET but I am pretty sure the interview is the difference maker. I've heard there is a lot of nepotism and local preference. People said the hierarchy of selection is Odisha domicile>NLUO students>Rest. I am traveling from Delhi, so time and expenses will be incurred. Should I go ?

Genuine doubt. I heard the VC is awful but they will get a new one. I heard the campus is good but crowd is large. I heard the BALLB and LLM kids are good but LLB batch is rowdy locals. So it's a mix bag.

For example; the area around NLSIU is known to be unsafe at nights (Ive heard from friends that women are NOT permitted to visit Bangalore University library without another person). There have also been some mala fide instances outside the university. So your argument of just stay outside really doesn’t help.
