Most firms never introspect and change their ways. The word of a senior, no matter how toxic and despicable, is always believed over a junior (even if the junior is telling the truth). This is why most firms lose talent quickly. It is very tough to believe that an SA / PA / AP is always telling the truth and that an A0 or A1 is always lying.

I don't think any Indian law firm would be interested in outsourcing their legal services (or am I wrong here?) – and now if the focus is on this aspect (which again, I believe is the right move for them financially), it does make me question the law firms that are still holding on to their Jurisphere subscriptions. Why not move to Lucio/Harvey/Legora/in-house solutions instead of paying someone for a product that they're not even focused on building anymore?

This is a call for advice or leads, if any. I have just graduated from a non-nlu/good NIRF ranking college. Have good litigation and in-house internships. I got placed at a random firm from college, JD said litigation work but the work is like an LPO. The associates here seem to like it a lot but there's no growth here. Drafting arbitration pleadings all day for random district courts in India for a low salary is not what I want to end up doing. Should I quit and look for another job immediately or should I wait for a few months here (I fear that resigning immediately would paint a bad picture). Also, are any good firms hiring rn for BO26.

I took one such cam course myself. It was taught by senior partners, partners, and senior associates. They greet you in the first class by congratulating you for making it through a very intensive screening process. A year later, I was hired in the same practice area the course dealt with (might be more of a coincidence, since i was interested in it). But I believe it genuinely helped a lot in the process. The two other people who were selected with me for have training contacts now (ig the process was intensive afterall). Anyway, its a free course, delivered by people who know their shit. Definitely worth applying.

So a year ahead but would like to contribute to this.

Caveat: I practice in a Tier 2 city at a Regional High Court and other State forums.

Generally, the Court hours plus the chamber hours are eratic but one may count around 2 to 3 hours a day in Court and an additional 3 to 4 hours in office. After slogging myself for 10 years, I have relatively free weekends. I do have to hold office on weekends but mostly it is for 2 to 3 hours. Remaining time I like to spend with my family and devote to my reading list and other hobbies.

My monthly earnings are somewhere in the ballpark of 2 to 3 lakhs a month. I own a car, nothing sophisticated. I still putting up on a rented place with a desire to own a house in near future, deadline being the age of 40. I do like to go on holidays and religiously plan for the same. As of other holdings, I have 70 lakhs of savings to secure my future.

All in all, indeed, I have friends, both in firms and litigation who are better of me or may be not so better of, but in the end, I find myself to be happy and satisfied wherever I am.

I got an internship offer from the Mumbai office. Should I join it? Will it be worth it? I’m in my final year, so what’s the hiring scene there like?

Also, one of my friends got a 3-month assessment internship there without a stipend. Would it be worth it? What are the chances of converting it into a PPO, and what’s the fresher salary there like?

Not sharing the reel because I don't want to cause any embarrassment to the student. It was a reel where a girl student is proudly talking about being at NLSIU and showing a tour of her hostel room. She seems happy. I also guess she is good friends with her roommates.

But I found the room shocking and depressing. Three people are sharing one room. The beds are squeezed next to each other. Zero personal space. I'm sorry if I sound elitist, but it's people from slums who live in such cramped conditions. Shouldn't a law school that calls itself the Harvard of the East offer better rooms? If necessary, follow the system in colleges abroad where you can pay more and get a single room? And not that NLSIU is cheap either. For the same amount or just a little more, you will probably manage a PG with a small single room and attached bath.

Second, not well connected? Look at the examples of so many successful 1st gen lawyers they all went on to become successful. You people have this negative mindset that nothing will happen in lit unless you are connected

Firstly, lawyers are not employees and the firm is not duty bound to pay bonus for your services. Secondly, bonus is always discretionary. So stop making a fuss over it. And what is up with the usage of the term stealing? Lol. And no one is trapped, if someone doesnt agree, always free to leave.

He's the one who started the structural problems by random expansions to the batch size. That was never necessary. As for other people better qualified for the job, his academic publications don't make him better suited to run the place. There have been VCs who have taken NLSIU to the place where it is today, all having done a better job of administering the place without giving up on student concerns.

It still isn't working. NLSIU grads under Sudhir haven't proven themselves to be any better than grads from other NLUs in terms of their academic quality. You are fond of Sudhir the academic, that's your prerogative. Sudhir the admin has proven to be horrendous for law school, by his meaningless expansion attempts, his lack of understanding about how important getting a job is to majority students and several others. The faculty themselves keep complaining about him and hardly get any time to research because of their workload, which is certainly not something he learnt from any Western University.

I was surprised to discover how prestigious JDs are. why don't llb's carry the same prestige? it is a post graduate degree after all despite the new integrated system (5 years instead of 6) and even having llb + llm doesn't cut it here! I don't get it

Exactly! Studying in a country like the US or the UK makes you realise just how backward our legal system (and I mean all of it, including law firms and law schools) is. Also CTC package is the most short-sighted way of looking at your career. I personally know so many partners who landed practice-changing clients and/or regular money-minting referrals just because of the connections they made in their LLM year

I have a few names in mind from counsel I have seen in court myself.

Saurabh Seth, Sidhant Kumar and Anirudh Bhakru on the commercial side. Arshdeep Singh on the criminal side. Aditya Wadhwa as well. I'm sure there are many others as well.

Your views of these guys?

All Indian cities experience this. I am citing the example of Kolkata. All political regimes till date have encouraged hawkers etc and later engaged in violent evictions. Cal HC has overtime become less indulgent. Recently it correctly concluded that just because investments were made into unauthorised or illegal construction does not trigger a rt to regularisation or compensation.

Almost entire pavements and lanes are taken over by hawkers. Cosmetic raids only lead to reset of corrupt calculi. Encroachments by real estate moguls involving high and mighty don't get touched at all or if really unlucky get reprieve through regularisation unless dilatory court processes clock out "action" altogether.

Irrespective of political regime, why does nobody follow the money and go after those who organised these illegal rackets? Because that would show that all political parties are involved in the loot? Why isn't compensation et al extracted from those who "sold out". After all a long chain of councillors, municipal officials, police, bureaucrats and ministers are involved for this long festering problem.

Will the new state govt really do something or just photogenic stuff?

For exposure to better legal education, which India does not yet provide. For the opportunity to interact with people from all over the world. For the chance to build a global network. For stepping outside the bubble that is India (or any other country for that matter) and learn fresh new ways of thinking and communicating. IMO, LLM only for better job/salary prospects is fair but a narrow way to look at it. Certainly a privilege given expense.

Yeah man michael sandel is gold. I watched his video lectures and then bought his book. That is what sparked my interest in philosophy and it would be fair to say that it has helped me in law to some extent. As justice nariman says 'The more you read outside law, the more helps in law'

Immediately raises the question of the quality of governing body members in law colleges and extent of their clout.

If I can take a couple of examples, Samiksha Pednekar (ex-CAM) has 2.6 lakh Insta followers, posting on fashion. She also does brand collabs. Harshita Agarwal (ex-JSA) has 82K Insta followers, posting purely on law. The interesting thing is that both of them started when they were students at Jindal. In Harshita's case, even as a college student, her posts were purely on law and legal education.

So if I have, say 50K followers, how much can I earn? What if post a combo of law school stuff and other stuff? Could be fashion, travel, sports, politics and trends?

Would appreciate some inputs. As I would like to make this an income stream.

If you have sufficient experience in the practice area, go for it if it's a mid or mid senior level role

Note that there will be lot of expectations and responsibilities on you since you'll be helping set up the practice area. If you're junior, don't consider because you'll be helping set up the practice area and a lot of your learning will be self learning and very little to no guidance.

since the job market is bad and I got 1 year to graduate, im thinking of pursuing cs from icsi and get training at law firms instead since internships dont look like theyre gonna convert to a ppo. litigation is not an option. which law firms if any have such programmes and how much do they pay. mumbai specific. and if law and cs really is worth it?

I have seen a lot of activity on their LinkedIn- apparently, the founder was also invited to the WEF Davos last year and they have a lot of rankings. I am thinking of applying there, but my concern is that while their website lists 2 partners and 5 associates, they supposedly have three offices (Delhi Blr and Kol). ▮▮▮ A firm with 7 lawyers cannot have offices in 3 cities. Which makes me wonder how much of the rest is true and how much is performative. Anyone who can shed light on this?

Do you know that there are people who would voluntarily amputate parts of their body to get the opportunities you are getting now? Why don't you just sit the hell down and do your essential + further/recommended/additional/optional reading and just be the very best academic lawyers and practitioners you can be once you graduate? If you really want a social life outside of uni, you can sure as hell get one, while still being on top of your academic load every single day, even (especially) under Sudhir. I can guarantee you this, if you try.

Literally, this is all you hear. Is it even possible to make genuine friends in law school? Because people get jealous and competitive about everything. Maybe better to attend meet-up events outside campus and make friends from elsewhere?

i have been allotted both hnlu and nluo in clat merit lists and have been in a dilemma whether to choose these or sls pune. This year slsp has increased their batch size to around 800, so will it be worth it to go for slsp because of the humongous crowd, and as far as i know placements has been dwindling in slsp for the past 2-3 years. Tier-2 nlus also don't have a very good reputation so should i go for hnlu or nluo considering a much smaller batch size and higher chances of getting placed. my main goal is to get a corporate job and i'm a dropper so retaking clat is not an option. if students and alumni of these mentioned colleges could shed some light on this topic it would help me a great deal.

Tell me of one of those such people who isn't hugely connected and/or who doesn't have family wealth. And give mea strategy on how to lead a comfortable life on a litigation salary after joining, which will have been after plunging years of money and debt into getting a legal education. There are some jobs you can get without a university degree that pay higher than litigation in India.

Ex Associate here. The litigation team is a ghost of itrs practice prior to VK's designation. They're on their nth iteration of the lit team but it's a ▮▮▮. The pay is bad in comparison to other boutique firms.

You will get some independence in the practice but for everything to anything, the lit is dependent on the be daya drishti of VK. The partner and senior partner of NCLT have ▮▮▮.

In the corp team, JNC and ST are handsdown two of the most competent lawyers who ought to be highlighted and celebrated in the profession. SS is great. NB (Managing Associate) is brilliant and absolutely amazing to work with and learn from. They've added an IP team now which is doing good.

▮▮▮ JNC and NB, the 3rd MA are the main corp transactional work team while ST SS MD JST are your real estate team. I've worked with NB and she's brilliant and deserves better.

The average pay when I left was 10.2 l fixed + 85k fixed bonus.

The firm is also run like a chamber. Agar mahine se pehle biscuit khatam hogye pantry main they will not restock it. Same with tissue papers. 8pm ke baad ACs off.

Is the work there good? Going for an assessment with AP&P, will only go if there is actually work, I have some time before I graduate and another assessment offer. Another jr. interning before me wants to know about the work allotted to interns,

I am a second year student at Tier 1 NLU, and I am really confused, I have primarily done litigation and disputes internships, since the subject matter is extremely varied and one can barely touch upon something before we have to move on to another subject matter, I have no clue which team to apply for in a law firm.

I want to get an idea what teams do in firms practically, websites say various things, that seems very touching the tip and moving away.

Any help would be appreciated
