Recently completed a year at a t1. Am an A1 now. Was doing well in the beginning but now I am making so many mistakes. Missing mails, missed a big ticket item in a DD, typos in drafts. More experienced folks, is it normal to have a slump in work product or does this mean that I am not cut out for this profession? More importantly, how do I come out of this cycle - I don’t particularly love the law but I want to be good at my job for as long as I am doing it.

Best of luck with your internship. Be proactive, interested in the law and in research, question a lot but not for the sake of questioning or showing off but genuine understanding. It's okay to get things wrong so don't worry about making good faith mistakes. Most importantly, be kind to the staff and to your associates and treat everyone with dignity. It's a small team with a strong culture and they value preserving that culture above all else... If you fit in, you'll love it. If you're not a fit, don't take it to heart.

Young folks reading this - I'm sincerely requesting you to please stop writing those cringe linkedin posts posing with that "senior" Advocate. That internship program is a ▮▮▮ and you will honestly learn more with some lesser known undesignated experienced lawyer. Plus if you think his certificate is of any value - it doesn't - it's the most commonly available cringe internship certificate.

I've recently joined a Tier 1 law firm, and I constantly feel scared and overwhelmed. This is a new practice area (GC) for me, and I often feel very incompetent. I'm worried about making mistakes, and my research feels slow. These thoughts make me panic, and it's starting to take a toll on me. Do you have any advice on how to manage?

Whatever you do, don’t talk smack about your partner on LI. Your claims will be decreed null and void with the brute force of Indian big law and you will be called a liar. This holds especially true if you are up against a woman, because Indian women lawyers can do no wrong ?!?!

Before accusing anyone, be sure to have the receipts - someone your predecessors failed to do before being outwitted and tossed out for good.

Intern as much as you can. Don't intern at law firms in the first two years. Intern with chambers and advocates. Start interning with small law firms in 3rd year, then go for T1s and T2s in 4th and 5th years.

Occasionally, you'll get a professor who is extremely jealous of your internships. Dodging these professors is key. Such professors usually don't have a good relationship with principal and admin too so make sure u have a strong student council.

Listen more, talk less. At least during the first month. Don't give offence to anyone if you can help it. Spend 10 minutes for each class to go through the readings. Especially Contracts. Don't volunteer an opinion in common groups including WhatsApp groups unless specifically asked. Keep your political opinion to yourself. Wake up early enough to get at least some form of exercise for 30 minutes, at least 5 days a week. Avoid eating out more than once a week. Invest in a good mattress and mosquito net when you're here. Talk to the alumni faculty if you are facing any problem. Best of luck!

VIPS coz you will be in Delhi and it is always ranked good, RVR was heading it after his NLSIU term got over. Avoid Bennett as leadership is pathetic, fees is high, no placements, it's in a village in far flung Greater Noida, no connections, you will need 3 hours to reach Delhi, no public transport and no alumni.

Having gone through a similar experience, minus medication, can say it's truly demoralizing to see such partners continue in their jobs despite being such terrible human beings. It is tough luck having to end up working with such people. I hope karma does it's thing, truly. Best to move on from such places.

Hi, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I am a third year at Nalsar training mentees to help them earn a decent rank in the coveted clat/ailet exam. I have seen aspirants getting confused over this issue of which college is better and why is it better. Governmental rankings and newspaper reports are often misleading and biased. Now I can’t elaborate everything on a single LI post, but I can sure do something about the rankings to help everyone out. I have taken reviews from my seniors who are working in the industry, I have talked to some of the professors across nlus to understand their mindset and now it’s time to unveil the list based on several parameters. Commentators please stay away from trolling and drop your two cents! The list is as follows: -

3. NALSAR/NUJS

4. NUJS/NALSAR

5. GNLU

6. NLUJ/NLIU

7. NLIU/NLUJ

Now NALSAR and NUJS are seemingly interchangeable and the same goes for both NLIU/NLUJ. For instance this year NLIU did amazingly well in terms of domestic placements, whereas NLUJ missed it by a couple of good shots. That doesn’t make a particular NLU superior.

As the OP let me clarify, that the mess system as a concept is better than the previous system. Far better than Gopsa and Joshi's capitalistic ventures. It's just these quantity restrictions, quality of food, and lack of skills in negotiating a tender is an issue. The University is generating approx 1.2-1.5Cr from the student mess fees per semester. Not a bad sum, assuming there is no ghapla in the middle from the admin.

The TFR of muslims are also declining in India but slower than hindus of similar economic status. This can be tackled by improving access to education and employment for muslim females (Bangladesh model). If you have time read the book 'The Population Myth: Islam, Family Planning and Politics in India' by SY Quarishi. The document which came out just before final phase of election which stated that Muslims will be the dominant population group in 2090 or thereabouts makes that calculations based on the current projections but holds the rates to be unchanged for the next 70 years.

Understand facts and not just get degree from whatsapp uni. I wish everyone would have some basic knowledge of statistics and not just be like NLUD during NIRF.

If you are aiming for tier 1 firms, the above matters a lot. If you are from NUJS, NALSAR, GNLU and then the top 25 rankers, you are sorted. Further down the alley and you need to work more.

All week WFO is the dumbest discussion kco could have taken. Everyone was extremely happy with it and usually ended up working more on the wfh days since it started at 9am.

I don't understand the decision of law firms to purposely harass the employees and complain about efficiency. My brother in Christ maybe if I hadn't swimed through river like roads i would be able to work immediately.

Same here. I don’t have it in me to write down details of what happened with me. I spent about a year in therapy just going over this one incident and this one person, his behaviour, everything he did to push me into this black hole. I am not sure if I am still fully back. For a few months, I relied heavily on anxit to get through my days, to keep the breakdowns in check.

But I still have hope that it gets better, even tho this incident seriously dented my career. Its hard, to go through shit like this, but please please hang in there - by that I don’t mean to say that you should keep working with the same person, but continue to work as a lawyer. Don’t let this come in the way of a glorious future that awaits you.

A friend interned in the past and had decent reviews. Joining as a trainee gets 20-25 thousand while joining as an associate gets 30 thousand. Paralegals get lower the more desperate they are. Weekends do not happen. Work is ok. But better offices are present in CP and other areas.

I am in a Tier 2 NLU. I do not have any tier 1 internships but my rank is within top 5 and I am decent at public speaking. Do I stand a chance in Trilegal, SAM campus recruitments? Last year they had recruited a person of the 2024 batch who had average internships like me, by average I mean not only tier 1 but smaller firms.

The Gandhinagar metro work has dug up most of the soil in front of the campus making it a low lying area and prone to water flooding which wasn't a problem previously. The millipedes are probably from there.
