So what is the safer thing to do? Not be on them just for the sake of ensuring colleagues don't get to know? Save myself from possible embarrassment even if it comes with the cost of my dating life ?
Professionals, especially females, who have been in this field and might have had a similar experience, please do tell. Allow me to learn from your choices.
Self promotion much?
However, this isn't a place I see myself working for the foreseeable future. I would like to eventually shift elsewhere. Therefore, in instances of
1. Lateral hiring
2. LLMs
How much do college grades matter. Wanted to know specifically about LLMs, because an I'm keen on specialising in my specific field.
Can work experience of 2-3 years at a top firm make up for terrible grades in law school?
Thanks cuties
Heard that HSF has dolled out rejections this year even after their Vacation Scheme Program - is this true? Because they usually take everyone in the vac scheme cohort for their TCs.
Additionally, what about the other firms, such as Linklaters and AO Shearman - how many TCs have been confirmed so far, and are more expected for our batch?
2. Consistent achievements by students from moots to ADR to UPSC and Rhodes
3. Better faculty (except NLS) and research centres + competent administration and academic rigour
The question isnβt why NLUD, itβs why any other NLU? GNLU kids are deluded if they truly think theyβre in our league. They wonβt have even a single person who got through AILET studying there. Not even the folks from Gujarat drop NLUD for GNLU.
why NLUD? give three points
Between Tier 3 and USLLS, choose USLLS if you want to go into litigation or judiciary. Great alum base for these areas. Tiny but growing alum presence in firms at partnership level
(Samco, CAM, KCo, AZB, Trilegal, Indus, Saraf, Dentons Link Legal)
Fancy β¨β¨
There are poisonous and fatal snakes found in hostels in GNLU. It is not just about mosquitos.
I am into corporate, and I think I am not the right fit for government jobs.
Again, thankyou so much.
Now wait.
Apart from that, in terms of competition, it is less compared to other states since only around 2-3k people write the exam every year and they mostly they conduct it every year. However in 2024 the vacancies were very less, only 7 seats. But this is not the general case, usually 20-30 vacancies are there minimum every year, if you prepare well, its not a difficult exam to crack.
For preparation its is very state specific, bare acts + case laws would be sufficient. However, most people who clear take coaching locally, based in Trivandrum and Kochi. Its optional based on your level of legal knowledge. Hope this helps.
The rest could get approvals easily since the likes of amity, symbi, NMIMS easily get recognition for online courses
Its not like people applied and UGC refused
10 cr is an underachievement - it could be 100 cr given its brand if NLS partnered with edtech companies like Upgrade, Jaro or LawSikho
Even Symbi earns over 100 cr from online education
RCC helped me in manyways, got to know about niche firms which in turn made me aware about niche areas. Got to know almost all of my batch + seniors due to regular calling etc for internships. And many other soft skills. But realistically what do you get for working in the moot committee? Sports committee?, it is a college committee dude if you want a salary for doing this work then maybe don't do it?
Guy's as of July 2024, it would be very helpful if you can answer the following
1. How's life in Canada?
2. With an Indian LLB, NCA and maybe a Canadian LLM how easy is it to get jobs?
And what about PR and Immigration. Law is not a skill in demand. And PR is very difficult for lawyers unlike Civil Engineers, Nurses etc.
Are you legally forced to come back like in the US? How are lawyers getting PR?
3. What is the best route you would recommend an Indian Lawyer to come to Canada and get PR?
Nalsar Hyderabad - Consistent Performance
NLU Delhi - Consistent Rise
NUJS Kolkata (Legacy Law Schools, but eroding because it's in Kolkata)
NLU Jodhpur - Meh but okay. Not improving but not degrading.
GNLU - Emerging and good performance
NLIU Bhopal
MNLU Mumbai - Emerging but not satisfactory (Warning - avoid other MNLUs)
NLUO NUALS HNLU TNNLU RMLNLU etc are all in the same grade. Go wherever you like.
NLUO, TNNLU has shown significant growth over the past half decade. But that growth will die soon.
Other NLU's are bleh but gives you NLU Tag
Know the partners first. You can easily guess a person's behaviour and attidude through his linkedin post. then email him tailoring your style in such a way that the partner will reply you back.
Note- I have emailed a lot of partners. A LOT. not every partner is so "dayavaan" to give you an internship.
All the best!
And no not all rich men are willing to change a broke girls life to the better, it's mostly for the worse. Been there done that.
Heard 1 invite to NLS, 2 or 3 to NUJS, 2 to NLUJ and 1 GNLU right now. Links doesn't even shortlist below that for it's VCs. But maybe I'm wrong. I know this much intel
The only benefit I found was a new found confidence of talking to a wide variety of people, developing a regular practice of responding to formal emails, and the joy I got when I was finally able to get a friend a job. Those really stay with you for a long time.
No lawyer can ask and no client will pay 'a portion of the entire value of such transaction'. Vakeel ho, dalal nahi.
How do lawyers save tax?
- You assume that rankings of 15 years ago are still valid today, when in fact rankings keep changing
- You only look at placements. You don't appreciate the value of good faculty, admin, infra and opportunities like good guest lectures, conferences with practitioners, student exchanges abroad etc. Placements should get max 60 to 70% of weightage, not more than that.
The ranking below should be the best ranking as of 2024, if you look at things holistically. I am using the Moody's rating system of Aaa (A++) to C.
1 (Tier A++). NLSIU
2-3 (Tier A+): NALSAR/NLUD
4-5 (Tier A): JGLS/NUJS
6-7 (Tier B++): GNLU/NLUJ
8-11: (Tier B+): NLIU/MNLU-M/RMLNLU/RGNUL
12-16 (Tier B): New DU course/HNLU/NUALS/BITS Law School/Symbiosis Pune
17-21 (Tier C++): GLC/DSNLU/NLUO/MNLU-N/MNLU-A
22-30 (Tier C+ to Tier C): IIM Rohtak, KIIT, HPNLU, DNLU, NLU Patna, NLU Ranchi, Bennet, Nirma, TNNLU
Don't write any hancy fancy stuff in those notes. Be very professional and straightforward. Write why you are asking to connect. Write that you want to learn from them and possibly get hands on some opportunities. Be clear with your purpose. People who work don't have time to f**k around. Respect their time.
Keep doing it. Out of 20-30 people you request, chances are at least 2-5 people will reply back. The more you do this, the higher your chances of landing on an opportunity.
I got my break through this method. FYI, story as same as yours.
Adios!
Now, I hope it is clear why it is considered that GC/M&A/PE is one of the highest paying domain, if not the highest. You need to pay a generous amount of money to retain people who can bring such kinda money into the firm.
Coming to A0s. Come on man! A0s dont have as such contributions in deals and transactions. They are still at learning stages only. Once they reach A3 or SA level, you'll see their bonuses increasing exponentially as compared to other teams of the very same firms.
For those who don't know, GG ran NDA for 20 years.
Wish her best of luck in whatever is next. Is she also joining a T1 firm?
