If you want a job faster aim for smaller firms with higher pay. Itβs all about right time right place but letβs hope it works out for you!
Instead, I want to express my gratitude to everyone who commented on my post. I'd been on LI for about a year before posting that sob story, so I had a sense of how this forum could be. But there were also moments when I saw incredibly supportive comments. That post was more of a cry for help, fueled by the stress of the exam a week away, and I ended up typing it all out.
The comments I received were beyond helpfulβthe supportive ones urging me to give my best in the final 10 days, and even the trollish ones. I still remember one comment saying that I'd be a great lawyer because of the humorously long, substance-less paragraph I'd written. When I reread my post the next day, I felt a bit pathetic for going on and on about something so small. That "trollish" comment (if you can call them that) along with a few other ones revealed to me how insignificant it was in the grand scheme of things.
Contrary to what I wanted to do, I think I've rambled on for pretty long in this one as well haha. I've secured an AIR in the lower triple-digits and I'll be committing to NLSIU. This probably wouldn't be possible without LI because knowing me I'd probably still be sulking about the poor mock score I had gotten a week prior going into the examination lol. Thank you LI β₯π₯°
2. HPNLU? Top 50? According to which meaningful criteria? Tell me one achievement of that uni - one meaningful one - and then let's talk. Oh and yes, please produce verifiable proofs of the same.
3. NLUs have very much produced high quality advocates, just not anyone from your uni, just confess and stop applying your inferiority complexes onto other places whose quality you cannot comprehend. As regards judges, the NLUs are too young to have produced anyone who is eligible for the higher levels of the judiciary.
4. Absolutely professors have come back and tried to help. What about the NLS VC himself? Look at how disgracefully he has been treated - what utter nonsense this site allows to be spread about him! Have you ever thought that he and people in his position might have kids, to whom they might one day have to explain that the stuff about daddy/mummy online is just angry people being mean? If that is the best our country has to offer its academics (plus no meaningful research/scholarship culture, definitely a phenomenon at glorified trashcans like HPNLU), then, if I were them, it's be a "no thank you!" from me! There are lots of other examples of people have come back and helped (tell me: who founded IDIA?), if you cared to look! Oh yes and also, if a single graduate from your uni was a prof abroad, or if you had even managed to achieve one training contract in a magic circle law firm, you would not be using this language, but actually producing statistics. These accusations of licking peoples' backsides etc are the last resort of clear failures who have no other argument(s) to resort to!
5. Again, thank you for your exhibitionist behaviour and for giving me such a nice, prolonged laugh, really helps warm the body up; it is -1 Degrees C here on a cold morning in London, and I really needed it - and I can tell you from experience of four years living in England, such quasi-natural (not involving switching-on of expensive heating equipment) cures to feeling cold are really hard to come by!

Coming to think of it, even DU Law programs get more funding than all state NLUs. A fresh round of jealousy-laden downvotes is welcome.
That 5600 is sweet too. Personally, I have been saving up for a Casio GM 2100 - exceptionally beautiful field watch.

Official announcement was made by the VC today!!
For context:
1. Padel is under consideration to be included as a sport in the 2028 LA Olympics. A lot of celebrities are promoting padel, like Nadal, David Beckham etc and Hollywood celebs like Eva Longoria.
https://www.timesnownews.com/sports/padel/not-pickleball-this-racquet-sport-could-make-its-debut-in-2028-los-angeles-olympics-article-116839799
2. Parth Jindal of JSW is investing big time in building padel infrastructure in India , through a company called PadelPark
https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/sports/jsw-sports-founder-parth-jindal-invests-in-padelpark-india/articleshow/112744357.cms?from=mdr
3. JGLS and the UAE government had earlier signed an MoU to have padel courts at JGLS (via PadelPark)
https://www.msn.com/en-in/money/markets/strengthening-bonds-through-sports-uae-and-jindal-global-university-collaborate-for-padel-tennis-excellence/ar-BB1kdyLW
The vision for JGLS is as follows:
- Padel enters the Olympics in 2028
- Parth Jindal and PadelPark get a first mover advantage in India and promote the sport
- If 2036 Olympics are held in India, it could be a huge opportunity
- JGLS hops on the bandwagon
- Meanwhile, as a glamorous sport, padel could be popularised among corporates and JGLS students who play padel will stand out

Compare NLS Brand with NLUD
Compare NLS Alumni with NLUD
Compare Faculty
Compare the Vice Chancellors
Do you find any comparison?
NLU Delhi will come nowhere closer to NLS Bangalore in the next 50 years also.
NLSIU is the No. 1 law school of India and it will remain so for next few decades. I donβt see any possibility of NALSAR or NUJS or NLUD come anywhere close to it. Thanks.
Joining any other NLU with established track record will be better
When in 12th grade, they told areey 12th is turning point, score well. I did
In CLAT, I flunked and I thought PG me acha karlunga and settled with a shitty college with a grade ceiling.
No one told me that UG college is what actually mattered.
Ab kya jhand banega zindagi mera
And if I plan to take a JD from US in future using LSAT, will a grade like 60-65% hamper my admission?
On the other hand, Gen Y still clings on to old-fashioned concepts of boomers and Gen X: save for your future, save frugally, have a family kids and save further on them etc.
Speaking for myself, the Gen Z attitude is much better. Why be a slave to oppressive middle-class values? Just enjoy what life has to offer you!
If you're okay with sacrificing money for work.life balance, there are ample opportunities but the dip in money would be substantial. As someone completing 5 years in the law firm environment - I sometimes wish I had never joined a law firm to begin with - you can't miss the money you never earned!
Anywho, As far as you query goes, go for JAG only if you have any interest in the army, also remember it's a SSC, short service commission, so if you don't become permanent you will have to leave after 10+4 years. However, I have friends who left and joined law firms or became SC/HC advocates. But the basic criteria is you have to enjoy the military lifestyle.
Judiciary is a social status without a social life. You will get all the privilege, wealth, power and connections, but you will be under scrutiny with how you operate in the society. It's a post, an office that gives a lot but demands a lot. Same with civil services. You are bound by the rules.
Law firms are like any other corporate job. Work, work and work. You get great pay, probably the best, immediately after graduation. But it comes with a cost of health and time. Sure post 5 years of work you will be more comfortable. But it's a tough 5 years.
Now coming to your questions:
1. Progression in JAG is the same as others, start of as a GC, Lt, Capt, Major and if lucky will retire as a Lt. Col. It's a grade A govt service, the only other being civil services. The progression is time scale. And if your records are good, you'll get permanent commission and depending on age may retire as a Brig/General. Judiciary is heavily dependant on age, the younger you join, the higher you go. If you're above 35, then try for HJS instead. For law firms, it depends which kind, and what type, and which job. what differentiates this from the other two is it's not time dependant and more skill dependent, i.e. if you're ready good at what you do you will definitely climb quicker.
2. Hours is totally dependant on where you work and at what role. If I had to compare the most hours in-office and outside related to work would be Judge (judgment writing sucks)>law firm (maximum time in office)>JAG (army social life)
3. Which you should go for is upto you. If you want a work-life balance, JAG is the best, but adapting to a military lifestyle is very tough for many, it's a world in it's own sense. If you want power and prestige, then judiciary is the best, however social life is nil. If you want money, just simply money, then law firms and a freedom to not be restricted by rules like army or judiciary has. In the end, see what you want ? Money, status, power, passion etc.
Money - law firms. Power - Judiciary. Passion - JAG
Moreover, if you're comparing apples to oranges than remember that till date none of the NLUs are anything more than a state university, none of the NLUs have produced judges or advocates of high calibre in the courts, none of the NLUs have produced professors that decided to stay back in India and help further the educational system of the country, why ? Because most of them became corporate Stooges and some like you became the white men's slave and started teaching abroad instead of contributing to the same higher education in India that you accuse others of defiling. Also, with 1700 law colleges, HPNLU still, though not great, comes in the top 50, therefore you're elitist ass considers the rest of the 1650 as even below the thrash that you talk about. Talk about grandiose narcissism at it's finest. I hope even your death is not pissed upon by a rabid dog, and your downfall starts soon. Wish you well you narcissistic snob pig of a blot in this legal community.
As for placement records, if even after 17 years of starting, you have to resort to such excuses to account for your less than par placement scene, then that's enough evidence to show the state of your university.
What are the recent numbers wrt to placements and packages for JGLS students?
I have seen many students getting rejected.
PPO interviews at CAM now are NOT a mere formality now. You do have technical questions from your CV.
Plus if you are not in the top 10 of the Batch, you anyways don't have a chance.
The Bench of Justice BR Gavai and Justice KV Viswanathan was hearing a plea moved by advocate Mathews J Nedumpara and others for quashing of the recent designation of 70 lawyers as Senior Advocates by Delhi High Court.
"How many judges can you name whose offspring have been made seniors?" the Court asked as it questioned the allegations made in the petition.
Nedumpara in response said that he has submitted a chart to back his claim.
However, the Court was unconvinced with the submission and warned of action in case of failure to remove the allegations from the petition.
"We will grant you liberty to amend the plea and if it is not amended then we will take steps accordingly," the Court said.
When Nedumpara submitted that bar was afraid of judges, the Court took exception to the line of arguments.
"This is a court of law and not azaad maidan of Bombay to make speeches. Make legal arguments and not for gallery," Justice Gavai remarked.
Ultimately, the Court granted the counsel time to reflect over the pleadings and consider whether they need to be removed.
"A lawyer who is signatory to such a petition is also guilty of contempt," it warned.

It'd help sharing this.
I am confused regarding focussing on tier 1, boutique firms or in-house internships as I wish to be placed soon. I come from a nominal family and am hoping for packages 12+
Can anyone recommend me some places?
Placements are good. Law firms policies donβt look it as being below top NLUs as many partners have their children at Jindal. Profs are great and you have more corporate law focused electives like competition, banking, M&A, Capital Markets, IP, Aviation amongst others. I donβt think SLS Pune has such an extensive selection. These can better prepare you for internships, working. Also profs conducting these electives have worked at top law firms in these field so they can recommend you to Partners as many were their peers, friends. They also have regular lectures from KCo, AZB partners, etc.
In Jindal you can get merit based internships at tier 1 in third year from college. Not sure about SLS on this though. One big problem is that you will intern in select months and every single Jindal person is interning at that time so getting internship will be hard if you donβt have contact. Plus SLS kinda allows you to do long term internship in 5th year. Jindal will not officially help you in attendance if you intern during semester. So securing job may get slightly complicated. Although zero day is there and you can get an offer.
I believe SLS Pune also has more courses each semester than Jindal for initial few years, anyone from SLS do correct me if I a wrong. This can impact time you have to pursue your interest.

Let no one convince you that Christ University is better in any aspect, especially if you're from Bangalore. I speak from experienceβIβm from Bangalore and faced a similar dilemma. Back then, people kept pitching Christ as an "emerging" institution that would grow into a great law school over the years. Unfortunately, now that Iβve graduated, I can confidently say that Christ has only gone downhill.
At Christ, they donβt reimburse expenses for moots. Even if you win a moot on your own expenses, they take the prize money. There are no cultural or sports fest trips, and the crowd is average at best. My neighbour who was from Christ law was a top 10 from their batch, and didn't get place. Itβs essentially a school operating under the guise of a law school.
Yes, SLSPβs faculty might be sub-par, but youβll manage because everything else - majority of your peers, moot ADR opportunities, competition among people, visiting faculty lectures, fests and reputation is better. The real advantage of SLSP becomes apparent after you graduate. Law firms and employers place significant value on the Symbiosis name. They treat you better, offer more opportunities, and consider you for positions where Christ graduates often face outright rejection. The brand name becomes your gate pass to good law firms.
In short, and it's is gonna hurt many peoples ego but if youβre deciding between SLSP, Christ, Jindal, or an NLU outside the top 7, your best bet is SLSP. I cannot emphasize this enough.
