Why people do countless internships ?
Any internship is beneficial for two reasons:
1. If you are unsure of what you wish to pursue as a career post graduating, internships help find out the environment for each job. That's why I suggest freshers to intern at an ngo, under an advocate, judge and in a firm; this way you get to see the inside workings and depending on where you felt more comfortable, you may pursue that field. For example, one of my students was hell bent on working at a law firm because that's all they knew, however once they interned under an advocate, they immediately loved the job, now they're practicing as an AoR.
2. If you are 100% sure that you want a certain career, that's when you can direct all your internships towards that role. So if you wish to litigate, then you can do internships at DC, HC, SC and change it between advocates who practice criminal, civil etc to see how different each practice is.
People who do countless internships are doing it only to buff up their CV. Something which I personally discourage. It's always about quality and not quantity. If you know you want a certain career, it's better to intern in those areas to test which areas work better for you. Your experience will determine how well you do in those career rather than what the word is on the streets about those jobs.
