Here’s why:

1. Relentless trolling and vicious attacks against Sudhir Krishnaswamy, by jealous tier 2 college guys who have never set foot inside NLSIU and are resentful that Sudhir is improving the institution with his excellent faculty hires.

2. Similarly, non-stop attacks against Jindal despite Jindal doing better than many NLUs in the placements and foreign scholarships scene — again, by jealous and resentful people, who are also angry that Jindal-ites are wealthy (as if you guys don’t aspire to become wealthy and send your children to good universities).

3. Likewise, attacks against NUJS NRI quota students. FYI some of the most successful NUJS alumni are from the NRI quota and an NRI quota girl alum has just been awarded the Salve scholarship at Oxford this year.

4. Then, further hate against those going abroad for LLMs. You are either a traitor to your country and a bootlicker of the white race, or a spoilt rich kid — because, of course, we must opt for third-rate LLM courses at NLUs and be called “Lallams” by you lot!

5. Comments in Hindi, in blatant disregard of those who are not comfortable with Hindi. I speak Hindi and have scored good grades in Hindi in school, but I would never speak in Hindi in front of a pan-India crowd, as there are people who are from the South, Bengal, North East etc. Please show this courtesy too. It’s absolutely fine if you throw in a common Hindi word here and there, eg bindaas, jugaad or chapri ( as I have done). The English language happily absorbs words from foreign languages. But please don’t type entire sentences in Hindi!

6. Finally, a sharp increase in aggressive, abusive, incel-like language (which is strangely missed by moderators).

IMHO, this is spot on. Do any of the mods disagree? We really shouldn't be publishing nonsense where people are just trolling or insulting others. What value does this add to the average reader, other than perhaps the lulz for trolls?

I do. This entire thread is extremely categorical. For instance, this thread only points out ‘NUJS NRI’ students. Secondly, it talks about ‘foreign llm’ students being pinched. Thirdly, the first point is extremely insulting. ‘Jealous Tier-2 guys who never foot inside NLS’- isn’t this statement extremely vitriolic?

Stop idolising people or proclaiming them to be the best and you won't have to see them getting trolled. Stop treating others with the supercilious and arrogant attitude that the original post manifested on more than occasion, ironically, and you will find out that majority of them will treat them with the respect that they deserve. The content of the post was nothing objectionable and contained many points that most of us agree to. Regarding point no. 5, even worse than writing in Hindi, these guys write Hindi using English keyboards. Are they aware that blind users of LI - like me - who use screen reader software packages would find it very difficult to access such comments, because the screen readers essentially go into 'jibberish' mode when encountering such things? Ironically, if those wishing to say stuff in Hindi typed using a Hindi keyboard, blind users of screen reader software packages like Non-Visual Desktop Access (NVDA) could use add-ons for those software packages like Saksham, which is essentially NVDA programmed to read proper Hindi, to read Hindi-language comments written in Hindi. If you tried to turn on the Saksham add-on when reading a comment written in Hindi using an English keyboard, it would sound like (a) an Indian (i) pretending to read Hindi like a westerner; but (ii) who's doing a very bad job of it; and (b) as if the software's voice was a recording of someone who was punchdrunk. :)

This is trollish and barely true, but the basic trend is true.

One recurring theme is glorified misogyny and homophobia. Calling women NPAs or gold diggers or ugly, and those comments getting high upvotes but a woman writing any comment is met with intense anger. Same with gay people, people still say it like an insult. Well the mods are all incels so what can we expect. LI is the law school reddit now. I tried publishing multiple threads of severe incidents faced by me in law firms and with recruiters but they are never released

The hate against Sudhir is by a few losers with some personal axe to grind. That's transparent and obvious. The truth is that we need more people like Sudhir at NLUs. We need a mass cull of the old, incompetent profs and infusion of NLU alumni among the faculty, exactly like he has done.

He has not culled anyone, those same people are now heading various NLUs. Nor are all the people currently at NLSIU producing top notch academic output. Not all of them have even been given tenure. He has also taken multiple bad decisions in course of his administration that attracted needless bad publicity to the institution. I do consider that he has done good things for the place too. The fact remains that so far, NLS output has not seen any significant improvement during Sudhir's first term. It is possible that it will do so during the second.

I post a lot of comments defending the guy. Do you really think I would ever mention to him - the couple of times a year that I do speak to him- that its me defending him on here? Do you think he has time in his day to care about LI comments? Do you really think people post on here defending him not because they think the bullying has gone too far but because of some more nefarious selfish agenda? Thats ridiculous.

This is the same guy who would stop people from bursting crackers or playing sports in hostel corridors. These self-proclaimed intellectuals often believe the world should adhere to an orderly fashion, where everything is as per a strict set of norms. However, can there not be room for those who simply want to have fun? Must everything always be so rigid and structured? These comments, though perhaps disruptive to some, are made in the spirit of enjoyment and spontaneity. It's important to recognise that fun and order can coexist. There should be space for both perspectives on a platform like LI, which is the only successful social media platform specifically for law students and lawyers in current times. This diversity of thought and behaviour enriches the community and allows for a more vibrant and dynamic interaction among its members.

Are you one of those people who set off fire works in Sudhir's NUJS office, because he, after spending years at NLSIU and Oxford, couldn't stomach the very (post Menon) NUJS-specific phenomenon of, as Wodehouse might describe it, "handing out a good grade on a plate with watercress around it"? If you are and you have any ability to engage in self-reflection, you'd surely realize the guy might have a certain (justifiable) prejudice against fireworks? As the character James Akrington beautifully says in Ngaio Marsh's 12th Roderick Alleyn novel, "Colour Scheme" (which I most urnestly recommend to your attention, by the way, both for the purposes of personal development and to hopefully help you enjoy a good book, which you don't seem to have done for a very long time), "Smith certainly does seem to find attempted murder distinctly irritating". In the same spirit, could we not conclude that Sudhir might find students' use of the same kind of thing that was repurposed as a weapon to attempt assault on him (but which didn't work thanks to a lucky chance) "distinctly irritating"?

Is it that narrative that Sudhir fanboys have been peddling around these days? That the incident took place because he was a strict marker? Lol. There have been plenty of strict markers at NUJS. Some of them are still around today. Nobody elicited such a response from the students. I don't condone the firecracker incident at all, it was a foolish prank (and not the life threatening crime that Sudhir fanboys try to make it out to be). Nor did it happen because he was a subpar classroom teacher, which I had found him to be. There are many of those around and many far worse than him. It was simply because his arrogant attitude and lousy behaviour to the students whom he used to teach. I did meet and interact with him professionally years later after he took charge at NLSIU. To be fair to the guy, he's improved a lot. We all evolve professionally and Sudhir was relatively quite young and inexperienced as a teacher at that time, though in a professorial rank.

Yes, there seems to be an NUJS alum on LI who is obsessed with Sudhir to the point of being deranged and a stalker. This guy comes on every thread and attacks Sudhir needlessly. Obviously Sudhir must’ve given him low marks and he suffers from lifelong trauma because of it! Dude, go take therapy or something.

Also, regarding the point about bursting crackers in the hostel corridor, what kind of a nutcase are you? You think anyone should allow bursting of crackers in hostel corridors? You are literally endangering lives, because it may lead to a fire. And if you’re one of those people who bust crackers outside Sudhir’s room at midnight, then you are a coward as well.

Learn to respect people who have achieved and learn to appreciate someone who is trying to improve the state of legal education. Stop being such a pathetic loser!

One effort of him has failed spectacularly, so every other effort should be looked into carefully before dubbing it a resounding success. So far, he has done one good thing, which is to attract good faculty in a short period of time. Several bad things too, but I won't harp on those.

I will say though, that his decision to do that entire NLAT thing during COVID was messed-up as hell, and I'm a fanboy of the first order. However, I do believe that his concept of thinking CLAT is a bullshit way to make admissions decisions is right; COVID wasn't the right time, though, and NLAT wasn't the right way, to start implementing changes.

Not only that. He's messed up the lives of many PhD students during his tenure and all without any justification, communication or explanation. Students deserved better. Had anyone taken him and the institute to court, then he would have got yet another bloody nose. Fortunately for him and NLS, students are always loathe to litigate about their degrees, thinking about institutional repercussions.

surely no one is stopping anyone from playing sports in the grounds. You dont get to claim youre some sort of victim because youre not getting to destroy university infrastructure. You want to do this in hostel corridors because you dont care about public spaces, but I bet you dont play football or burst crackers inside your house. Surely you can find a away to have fun without destroying public property.

No comments on #1-4, but I agree fully with the calling out of people who post in Hindi. Can the moderators please delete all posts that are mostly in Hindi? The rest of the country has to compromise so that a few people can continue to speak in whatever language they are comfortable in.

I think people are getting triggered by the

use of “chapri”. But bottom line: use civil language and stop the unwarranted attacks against certain people just because you resent their elite positions.
