We want LI to be one of the friendliest places on the internet, where lawyers and law students help each other with their career related queries and occasionally discuss other stuff that might affect their lives too. In other words:
1. Be kind, respectful and helpful to each other.
2. Be bona fide, truthful, genuine and curious.
3. Assume the best intention of others.

Two stories of Nupur Sharma and Ranveer Allahbadia and one common factor: Justice Kant. "Justice Surya Kant: She has threat or she has become security threat? The way she has ignited emotions across the country. This lady is single handedly responsible for what is happening in the country." (https://x.com/barandbench/status/1542743515309912065) "Justice Kant: Such behaviour has to be condemned. Just because you are popular you cannot take the society for granted. Is there anyone on earth who will like this language. There is something very dirt in his mind which has been vomitted. Why should we protect him ??" (https://x.com/barandbench/status/1891725931582193816) The mindset is the same. A nanny court representing a nanny society, deciding on behalf of everyone who claim their sentiments are hurt.

Also, how to switch to dispute teams? How open are T1 law firms practising different areas to hiring people coming from a specialised team. any leads would be appreciated.
There may be more than a million things wrong with this firm, but holding back someone's duly earned remuneration is not one of them. Credit where credit due.
It makes no sense. You tell me you're following up with XYZ law firm, and then weeks—sometimes even months—go by with nothing. Yes, I understand that firms and hiring partners take time, but it is literally YOUR job to push for candidates like me, to advocate for us, to help us find roles. 'Help' being the key word here.
If a role doesn’t work out, refer me to other places. Keep track of your candidates. Remember us. Organize a database. Put some effort into your job. Help me and others like me.
I get it, you’re dealing with a lot of candidates. But there are also a lot of you. So how is it that, collectively, you have managed to fail us so spectacularly?
It’s especially frustrating to see recruiters spending so much time posting on LinkedIn about what candidates should or shouldn’t do. You go on and on about how we shouldn’t reach out to firms directly or post self-righteous motivational messages about 'Mondays' while ignoring our messages. Imagine if you just took five seconds to say, 'Hey, it didn’t work out with XYZ firm, but I’ll keep you in mind for future roles,' or even, 'The client changed their mind.' How hard is that?
If you’re a recruiter reading this, feel free to copy-paste the above. It’s probably the least you can do.
Have templates, hire more people, use some basic common sense—for the sake of those of us who are desperately looking for jobs. If you can’t even show this minimal level of decency, how do you expect any respect in return?
Most legal recruiters don’t understand the industry beyond the surface-level buzzwords—litigation, corporate law, in-house counsel, TMT, IPR. That much is clear.
And then there’s the whole 'confidential openings' nonsense. Half of you are peddling mystery jobs with no real details, expecting candidates like me to jump in blind. 'Big law firm, Tier 1, great opportunity' is NOT a job description. Do you even have a real opening, or are you just collecting resumes to meet some arbitrary quota?
Let’s not even get started on mass emails. Nothing screams professionalism like getting a job alert that wasn’t even meant for me. 'Dear Candidate, Exciting role at XYZ firm!' Sure, sounds legit.
And salary misinformation? Don’t even get me started. Some of you lowball me to keep your clients happy, others inflate numbers just to lure me in. Either way, I end up blindsided at the final stage when the actual offer doesn’t match anything you promised.
At the end of the day, most of these so-called recruiters are just middlemen chasing commissions with zero regard for candidates as actual human beings.
Also what are you doing currently?
Rather than focusing solely on career goals, it’s important to work towards living a fully rounded life. This includes not just career advancement but also personal growth, hobbies, relationships, and experiences that contribute to your overall well-being. If you’re feeling confined or restless in your current environment, consider stepping outside your comfort zone, travel abroad, immerse yourself in a new culture, or take a job in a different country to gain new perspectives. These experiences can offer clarity and reshape how you view success. Bottom line - live an interesting life.
In the end, an unexplored life isn’t worth living. Money and career status are not the only indicators of success. The richness of life comes from the experiences we have, the people we meet, and the fulfillment we find outside of the office. Focus on finding meaning in all aspects of your life—not just in your work.

You may downvote me, but I challenge you to prove me wrong on facts.

How likely it is to get an offer if you are shortlisted for interview ?
1. GPA/Grades: Maintaining a good GPA is crucial for a good CV. And a good GPA is not objective rather relative to your batch. If your GPA is in top 25% of the batch, I think that is good. Anything above that is excellent. People often overlook this, but more often than not, you CV itself is shortlisted based on your GPA. And I've people with very high GPA and nothing else in the CV land a very good job on Day Zero. So, focus on GPA.
2. Internships: Internships at T1 firms are most valuable. If you have narrowed down to a niche practice area and seek a job in that itself, try interning more in that area. Other than, generally if you have 2-3 good internships by your Day Zero along with a good GPA, you are going to be a strong contender for a job. This is specifically true in case of NLS or other top law schools where generally there is a higher number of willing recruiters on Day Zero. In case of other law schools, it would be wise to stay in touch with seniors who have secured a job to get tailored information.
3. Moots/Publications/Other Achievements: These achievements show your excellence and differentiate you from your peers. If you get a chance, don't shy away from participating in moots/debates/ADR activities. Participate for the sake of participating and in doing so you'll be able to enjoy the process and gain some experience that may help you later (for example in articulating something in your interview or as an area of common interest betwen you and your recruiter). If you win or secure a good position in any of these activities, it'll be a nice addition to your CV and might help in distinguishing your CV from others. And if possible, try getting atleast one paper in your area of interest published ata good place by the end of your law school course.
These are not sure shot ways of landing a job on Day Zero. I have seen people with a 'weaker' CV get a decent job. And I have seen people witha 'stronger' CV struggle. But tge above elements will, as a matter of general principle, work in your interest. Above all, if you aim to get a corporate job, try getting a PPO as this will save your time, effort and save you from participating in gruelling Day Zero process. In your second corp internship, try getting an assessment internship or if it's already a callback, even bettter. Communicate with your buddies/mentors that you are interested in working there and inquire aboutv vacancy and their interest in hiring. Be direct but not rude/offensive/ or give an impression that you are very needy. Hiring etc is also impacted by hiring pattern in that year and previous year. So all you can do is give your best and hope that everything else goes well.
Don't be very stressed as in the end you'll find that things will fall into place. Just be dilligent and trust and enjoy the process. You'll never get these years of your life back, so make sure that you dont exhaust yourself only in building CV. I hope i wasn't very idealistic and didn't scare you as that wasn't my intention. Be in touch with your seniors. I am sure you'll do good.
All the best!

Buying new - Would not recommed spending around 50 lakhs on a car worth 20 lakhs at max.
One definitely will get paid less than T1, but the life, moments, and time you get, along with right to ownership of work, directly engaging with clients etc. is priceless.
You have one life, better to experience it rather than work 14 hours a day everyday to earn money you wont even like/enjoy spending. Not worth earning that much if the sowrd of additional work always hangs over you, even on leaves/holidays.

It’s also important to pamper yourself and feel good. It will improve your confidence too. And it will portray an image of success, which might also help with your dating life. 😉 Good luck!
Make your choices carefully, aspirants. You don't want to be forced to stay stuck in one place when you might have better options elsewhere.
