What does your BA at NLS have to do with your LLB at NLS?
How does an NLS BA get you any closer to studying law at NLS?
If your end goal is to study law at NLS then study for CLAT! Else do a BA from some easy place which will allow you to prepare hard enough to crack NLS LLB.
(1) If you are absolutely confident of your choice to pursue the legal profession then I will suggest that you take admission in an NLU that you consider the best in relation with what your rank allows you to and then prepare for next year’s CLAT. There is something very unfortunate, in my view, about young, bright students like you staying at home only to prepare for a particular examination. As I said, if you have the absolute confidence in pursuing law, then you will be able to juggle both a first-year in an NLU and also prepare for the next CLAT without compromising either. Now after all that, even if you do not achieve what you want next year, you will have still improved your discipline and versatility while starting a promising second-year at your NLU with the company of new friends and teachers.
(2) If you are excited by law but also open to other avenues then you should think of your undergraduate education as a foundation where you will achieve the knowledge and skills to develop new professional interests. In that sense, the B.A. (Hons.) programme at NLSIU does look promising. At the end of the programme, you can still pursue law if you are willing but it is also possible that you will have discovered a broader set of opportunities that are just as exciting, if not more, than law. NLSIU, being its own authority, has, in theory at least, greater autonomy in creating an intellectual environment where you can do B.A. and develop actual research capacity. In that sense, at the end of your three years, you will eligible for both further postgraduate education in India (law or otherwise) and abroad (if that suits your mood, of course). At the same time, the B.A. (Hons.) is new and thus it is also reasonable to have doubts over how it may turn out. But on the whole, I personally do find it a promising programme. NLSIU is organising a campus visit in this regard on 08.02.2025 though I do not know if you applied for it. As for the admission process, my own purely personal experience is that it is relatively easier to secure admission in a newly-begun programme simply because not everyone may know about it or may not be sure of its eventual prospects.
