If you're marginalized in an NLU you are kept away from all those accumulated privileges . I can vouch for it, myself. I'm in a so called top NLU, with the best corporate placement record but inspite of that I'm struggling to find a job, I've struggled to find internships because of the discrimination I face due to my gender identity. I know when I'll say it a lot of people will start abusing me, I'm used to it. Trans people is a debate to a lot of people and not people for a lot of y'all. But the reason I brought this up is because your college tag doesn't protect you from discrimination within or outside it that much if you do not come from a lot of privilege otherwise. Hardwork, consistency and discipline of course matter a lot but opportunity too does and opportunity my friend comes to selected people first and gets called their merit. This whole NLU non NLU hierarchy is obsolete because the system is majorly based on how much privilege one has.

I just met someone who is a 'Chief of Staff' to the Managing Partner of a well-known firm based in an Eastern city. This 'Chief of Staff' is from a T1 NLU and has previously worked as an associate at a well-known T1 firm. Is such a role common? What are its prerequisites and responsibilities? How do others in the firm perceive a 'Chief of Staff'?

Though the college might have problems with the admin's laid-back approach, the college's culture and the respect for diversity has always been a key feature of NLUO and is loudly celebrated. There are Nepali students even at NLUO, but not for a moment have they been disassociated from others

How are the PhD admission? Are they fair or biased towards their own alumni ? Since there are only 3 seats, it's definitely competitive. I can clear the entrance, however it's the interview that I find worrying. Should I contact a professor beforehand? Should I tell them about my research proposal? Before or after the written exam? For example in jnu it's looked down upon to contact faculty. In DU it's almost mandatory.

we aren't hiding behind our CLAT ranks, we're wielding our alma matter, the best in the country, to our advantage. You may try to find some consolation in your cries of competence and integrity, but fact of the matter is, we already have them both, and a lot more in our favour. There's a reason why CLAT ranks matter, why your education matters. All the big guns know it, and that is sufficient for us to keep upping our game.

Nepotism and gamily wealth will always play an important role no matter what profession one chooses to go in. At the same time, there is no reason to exaggerate their influence to the point of making others feel helpless. Historically, social mobility has always been a challenge in every society across the world. But with every passing year, we do live arguably in a world more amenable to our labour and intelligence.

Why does everyone else have to play along? Most people dont have gender confusion. Why does everyone else need to declare their pronouns as if it is not obvious that they are either male or female? As if some inner gender soul needs to be affirmed for everyone?

And even in case of trans identified people- they might feel comfortable one way or another- but by demanding pronouns theyre demanding that I lie about the biological material reality of the world we share. There are only two sexes, there are zero genders, there are infinite personalities. People cannot change sex. They can change their personality and thats- good for them I guess. But why make me pretend theyre a different sex? By demanding I use their language which is not rooted in reality or science- they are demanding that I address them as if they were the wrong sex. Its cultish and indoctrination and compelled speech.

That is indeed unfortunate. The best way to sober him / her down may be with kindness - often reverse empathy works wonders. Inform your work question - by this I mean before just asking a question go read up find out what you can from all resources that you can garner and preface your question with your findings so that it seems thought out. Do this a few times and then maybe your partner should (ordinarily) change their behaviour having understood the work you put in before you go to them for guidance.

As for suggestions to change jobs I think that is challenging in this market and you would rather find a way to make this work for enough time that you actually gain something from your present workplace before moving on. Shifts should be after someone value adds to your experience rather than panic stricken.

Hi All!! I will be joining a law college this year, and for the past few months I've had the fear & grow grow in the back of my mind that whatever I end up doing will not be enough, there are so many qualities that a lawyer inherently has, do I even possess a fraction of those?? There are so many competitions/moots/research papers that one should complete-am I even capable of that?

I'm going to be honest I only chose law because my parents provided me with an ultimatum (either doctor/engineer/lawyer) but over the few years I've grown to sort of like the legal field and it also probably doesn;t help that my cousin brother is a very successful 5th year law student with whom I'm always going to be compared to...

Oh don't tilt at windmills, please. We know what the cause of this is. Same as everything from Aug 2019 onwards. TLC lobby remains envious of, and spiteful against, Sudhir, the young NLS-educated revolutionary, Rhodes Scholar and Anglo-American-trained/experienced legal academic, who is bringing in change after change, shattering orthodoxy after orthodoxy and making such persons (who thought their monopoly, as mediocre individuals, over the Indian legal education landscape, would go unchallenged and whose brains and integrity are low enough that they aren't worthy to ▮▮▮ Paul Craig's boots (let alone be supervised by him as a DPhil student, like Sudhir was!)) shiver in their boots. As he has achieved a second term as VC, they know their ability to persuade people of anything is going down day by day, so they resort to under-handed tactics like this.

So even if they offer a lakh per month, the chances of getting selected is almost nil.

I got an internship with stipend 3k per month in my last semester, I feel it's unfair but I also don't want to reject tbh because I don't feel i have an option, almost all internships in law are unpaid or if they are paid, they take like 3 rounds of interview in 15 days. Feels like a waste of time waiting for their response

Can only talk about the LLM: The LL.M. curriculum at SAU has innovative courses such as Comparative Constitutional Law of South Asian countries, which are rarely found in other law programs.

Additionally, our faculty consists of highly qualified professors with extensive research experience, and are frankly very approachable, plus we benefit by having a student/prof ratio of about 1:6.

The university has recently moved to its permanent campus in Maidan Garhi, South Delhi, offering modern infrastructure and upgraded facilities. While these improvements enhance the academic experience, the campus amenities are not yet on par with those of premier institutions like Jindal or NLSIU.

Overall, a good option if you don't get admission abroad, or in like NLSIU or something.

Looks like quite a few members of the NLU gang have taken exception to my advice. Rest assured, I meant every word of it. You cannot hide behind your CLAT ranks for the rest of your lives, fellows. No one place, not even your beloved NLU, has a monopoly on competence and integrity.

I did my LLb from Non NLU college and started preparing for CS. I have qualified CS with All India Rank.. Now i am even not able to get an internship in good law firms... Any advice will be highly appreciated ? Does CS adds value to resume to work in general corporate team in law firm?

Is this JSA gurgaon by any chance? A senior (female) partner always ask this to all her new woman hirees. Standard question in her interview - what plans to get married, what plans to have babies.

FYI - she does give mat leaves, recently 2 women have been on mat leave in her team. In hindsight, maybe she is trying to anticipate that mat leaves/ wedding leave of diff people dont clash.

Hi, I have a little over a year's experience in the policy research space; all internships were in think tanks- 0 corp internships (had envisioned sm in law school, the plan has drastically pivoted now); How feasible will it be to get corp interviews? / Will I have to intern as a graduate and start from scratch?

1) interrogate the data, most of the submissions are spurious by a quarter to a half

2) it gives an indication of likely ranking, but in absence of any other metric can work as a bad proxy. Case in point is an institute in Bhuvaneshwar, and not the one that you are thinking, this one does not have a website or a building but is in the top 10 law school in India as per NIRF.

3) spend money and hire a cheap audit firm to randomly check one data stream per submission and penalise institution which submit false info

1-4 is just a list, not in any specific order.

For 2-4, check if their juniors are in the same courtroom and sitting. If yes, you shouldn't have to give up your seat for categories 2-4

If the courtroom has vacant chairs, you don't have to get up for anyone

I’m a first-year at NLS, and honestly, our AAD is a mess. Why do they release each subject’s results one by one, at completely random times? Yesterday, Contract Law grades showed up on Digicampus only to be withdrawn later. Now, Digicampus is showing a blank column for Contract Law grades alongside a blank column for History. This whole system is frustrating and unnecessary.

I’m currently interning at a well-known NGO, but I just can’t focus on my work right now because of this constant uncertainty.

Be a self-starter, and ensure you send in work after careful proofreading.
Be proactive but do not annoy seniors.
If you have questions to understand the task better, compile and collate the questions as to not disturb your senior.
Be super polite, friendly and approachable - lots of pleases and thank yous. This is of course for anyone, learn from the Canadians ;)
If there's a topical news update, send a summary of it to the team along with your analysis. Or send your analysis of some provisions of the DP Act - just as an example. This shows your eagerness and analytical skills.
Do not plagiarise, at any cost.
If this is a physical internship, dress well, reach office before time. Stay back until your senior is there in office. Do not try to leave early, it casts a poor impression. Negotiating WLB comes in once you have got a full-time role.

Given its description as “focusing on the interface between policy, social sciences, and the law” and based on following parameters, what is the consensus on this programme that has been on since 2014? (1) Placement opportunities and alumni network; (2) academic rigour of the coursework; (3) strength and quality of the teaching faculty; (4) reasonableness of the programme fee; (5) academic and intellectual relations with other programmes at NLSIU; (6) your final recommendation on balance of everything considered here and any other relevant factor not mentioned here.

Why not try for B.A. (Hons.) at NLSIU. It is a good programme. You will share some classes with students of law as well. You will meet new and interesting people while developing and expanding your intellectual/professional interests. You will even have exclusive access to 10% of the seats in L.L.B. (Hons.) and M.P.P. after you are done with your B.A. Give it a go, dear fellow. All the best. Feel free to ask if you have any doubts.

Hi. Since you have to decide within a limited timeline, why not also apply for B.A. (Hons.) at NLSIU. It looks promising and they are also offering 10% of the seats in L.L.B. (Hons.) and M.P.P. for their B.A. students. I think the environment at NLSIU can also help you cultivate newer professional interests.

Interned there 2 years ago as a third year student. They taught me all the basics of work. The team is fun and fantastic and the leadership is an example of how firms should be run. I’ve not seen such great culture anywhere else. Don’t know about salaries but it’s a damn good place to intern.
