As you all know, one coaching institute has been backing up the petitioners who are actually working with LKS and at MP High courts, just a publicity stunt unlike ug petitions were there's real concern, maybe some advocates at delhi high court should definitely file case against petitioners for such dramas and also if you people would have gone through the recent interview video were the petitioner was bashed by candidates in comments section where he the so called petitioner was hitting back through comments at candidates for opposing him, and that coaching institute ( hint LE) took down the comments opposing him, its high time to consider the case from this angle, maybe only advocates from delhi could be our saviour in such situation to fight against such petitioners who are simply filing petitions for their own popularity..whats your take on this ?

NUJS is doing okay. As a matter of fact, we do bag the highest number of law firm jobs across NLUs, but this year has seen a significant market recession in terms of PPOs as compared to previous NUJS batches. While we are not as good as we would like to be, we are far better off in comparison to other law schools. These figures are approximate -

Depends on the practice area. Saraf for disputes and banking. Their M&A is a joke. They don't really do much M&A. They have a team, but working on resolution plans or regulatory advisory is not M&A.

Indus for M&A and PE. Still one or two very decent partners left in each office. Still very good in VC deals. TMT is decent as well. At least better than saraf. Real estate is also better in the Delhi office than Saraf. For corp, go to Mumbai or Bangalore.

Don't do cap marks or competition in either.

Not in case of JU. The Central Government had changed the rules at the last moment and asked the state to pitch in with a huge sum of money, which it knew wouldn't be possible for the State. The university had even requested for the autonomy alone, claiming that they would be able to self-finance their activities, however the Central Government did not agree to that. So this is an example of a fully qualified eminent university losing out because of politics between Central and State governments.

What was the need to mark it as anything? Teacher's pet behaviour doesn't work in every context, you know. Especially not here. This (Legally India) is that kids' playground where rules, because of the lack of adult supervision, either go to die or are, at best, enforced in an arbitrary, contradictory, patchy and random way.

We see BMWs, Mercs all over the place with top corporate lawyers and top senior counsels. But the real top tier - Rolls, Bentley, Ferraris. Who are the lawyers in Delhi/Bombay/Bangalore who drive (or more likely get driven) in these perfect machines? Law firms founders like Saraf are still mostly at the BMW i7/Range Rover range I feel.

1. PSS / SSS step in only for really high value clients. They will not be looped into every case.

2. Every partner has their specific area.
3. Performance is largely measured by billing and recovery.
4. Role of a partner is to bring in clients and expand the practice.
5. There are matters with billable hours and there are also lump-sum mandates. Depends on matter to matter and in disputes it is pretty flexible.

These are valid points. Let me also cite two more opposite examples: There was a proposal to convert Jadavpur U (Kolkata) and Anna U (Chennai) into national universities. But here's the catch - the respective state universities first have to agree on the same. In both the above cases, the respective state government did not cease control and influence over these universities - hence, even today, they are state universities. Converting a state university into a national university has many implications - the most visible being the discontinuation of the domicile quota. With the political climate in the various state governments, the likelihood of a state government giving up a state NLU for nationalization is zero.

currently NLSIU is cramming 3 people + addl. furniture into a room meant for 2....not to mention that the rest of the campus infra is already pretty strained....so its better to attend as a day scholar and live outside....moreover they cannot force adults to stay in the hostel especially if they are from Bangalore thats just plain crazyy

For folks having less than 2.5l pa income, there are multiple govt scholarships (check the nsp portal) providing full tuition fee and reimbursement of some other stuff. Check those. Baaki for nls, I know people getting discounts on their fees as well if ur income is less than 8l pa.

It has worked for me, but it takes consistency and you need to study the firm and the partner you are applying to. You need to make your CV interesting, so that they look past your college.

Yes, with the new non-residential 3-year BA programme to start this year, NLS is barrelling towards becoming a regular degree college. It is hard to believe that the admin is actually giving greater preference to the 3-year BA and the 3-year LLB programmes. The primary premise for the very establishment of NLS was the 5-year integrated BA-LLB - today, that premise lies in tatters.

Maybe the magic circle firms should actually have a blazing all-caps notice on their websites, for people like you, claiming to be "law students" but who totally lack reading comprehension skills, saying, "WE ONLY HIRE INDIAN LAW GRADUATES FROM THE NATIONAL LAW SCHOOL OF INDIA UNIVERSITY (NLSIU), THE NATIONAL ACADEMY OF LEGAL STUDIES AND RESEARCH (NALSAR) AND THE WEST BENGAL NATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF JURIDICAL SCIENSES (NUJS)". Well, they don't have time or inclination to do that, so I've fixed it for them. Hopefully, the sentence is short enough for you and the letters big enough that even they will penetrate your consciously-worn coat of stupidity.

Honestly- I dislike that trump is doing this because it shouldnt be up to presidents to bully and push around universities this way. And I hate the precedent it sets. But I also kinda agree with him. These universities have failed to hold themselves accountable and have lost the plot. Racially discriminating against asian students and asian and white faculty hires, promoting academics with the worst most radical ideas who literally carry water for terrorist organisations, letting people harass jewish students on campus- zero view point diversity at all—some of these are literally civil rights violations. At least someone is holding them accountable.

Dont turn NLS into the boarding school of your dreams. Universities are professional spaces. Not just spaces for you to live, laugh, and love. Why should the university be residential? What real value does it add?

Do you think all of Harvard's law students stay in the same hostels/dorms? No. Most law students take up various kinds of housing options and many stay outside campus and travel. Do you think everyone who goes to Oxford for law stays in the same packed hostels? Some may stay in the colleges but many more people—often the most interesting people—stay outside with people they actually enjoy. Does this mean that Harvard alumni or Oxford alumni are unable to network or form bonds with each other? Of course not.

There are costs to increasing seats at NLS. And increasing seats at NLS is a good thing. We need more, not fewer, people to access quality legal education. There will obviously be growing pains and they will have to take in more fees to build more hostels. But I'm honestly a little tired of this whinging and clinging to the past.

If NLS had to remain the elite institution it once was, it should never have started the CLAT- they should have just accepted sons and daughters of important people in admissions and been done with it. But no one can seriously argue that a merit based admissions process was not a good thing or that increasing access to education wasnt a good thing. Thats what increasing seats does. That is what this whole thing is about. IITs have thousands of students- that expansion was a good thing. It means more and not less opportunity. Folks who want to stop that kind of expansion always assume theyll be on the in group. Never realising that if the university is made elite enough- if their arguments are taken to the logical conclusion- theyll actually be left out.

It depends on many factors, like what the case is about and the client's capacity. I have worked with a lawyer for 3 years, he has a boutique firm, but only a few HC cases. Most of his clients avoid the per-hearing session; instead, they pay the whole amount per case. An HC case can easily make between 5-10 lakhs, excluding the drafting fee or any other costs.

Just putting this out there for students and juniors entering the profession: if you think every law firm offers basic decency or clarity in communication, think again.

He’s known to blow up at junior associates — over asking for leave during a family emergency. Yes, that actually happened. The junior association was humiliated in front of the entire office!

Yes please. Any further details on how the test is conducted would be very helpful. Do they allow reference to any previous drafts or does it have to be completely from scratch? How do they monitor and assess the drafting? What kind of case studies do the provide for the drafting?

Honestly, how has a good chunk of the corp law workforce not been replaced by AI already? I'm sure the models today, that is the generic ones built for universal use (imagine what models specifically built for a purpose could achieve) can already do mindless tasks like DD with better consistency and accuracy than the Associates working 16 hours a day. We should ideally be seeing displacement in some form today, surely the stingy firms aren't gonna let go of such a good opportunity to cut costs.
