Ever heard of the Aarushi Talwar case? Please read the book Aarushi by Avirook Talwar - he provides a good explanation of how a wrongful conviction happened in that case.
15L ??? I am presuming that you meant 15k.

If you meant 15L then probably Rebecca John, Kapil Sibal, Mahesh Jethmalani or Pinky Anand.
If its the HC, Rebecca John, Ramesh Gupta, Tanveer Ahmed Mir, and Mohit Mathur (in that order) hold great face value and are really good at criminal trials.

These would also cost you much less than 15L per appearance.
GLC Mumbai

No need to attend classes for 3 years. No mandatory attendance. Many Mumbai University affiliated law colleges have work in professionals who don't attend classes.
AOC won her NY state election by a 43% margin, Ilhan is Minnesota by a sliver below 50%, and Rashida in Michigan by 46%. These radicals seem to have mainstream numbers.

You are right to say that Cornel West won't defeat or even significantly dent Biden. However, it is entirely possible that Biden's loss, if it comes, to Trump may be due to the younger voters (who do not generally vote but are still important minority) being turned off by his status quoism re: America's Middle East policy.
Looking to switch from a T1 firm. Please let me know if any teams are hiring candidates at A1 level. Not necessarily looking to move to another T1 firm - T2 also works if the team is good.
I have received my offer from a corp firm in gurgaon, and just want to know from any women who are currently working in gurgaon about whether they’ve ever faced safety concerns working there. There are no fixed hours in this field and I might have to leave late sometimes - how safe would that be, should I be concerned?
Lots of law firms offer consulting opportunities. You can also start a law chamber and handle banking law cases in courts and tribunals. Maybe your old employer will give you cases?

Finally, why don’t you give guest lectures on practical areas of banking for students? You can approach Jindal, which is very open to this. If you have an LLM, especially from abroad, you can even join the faculty.
HI guys, got my internship confirmed for samovar partners for July in disputes. Is it a good place to work at? what are the PPO chances? what is the salary/bonus like for a A0?
Mr. Mukul Rohatgi (HC - Might charge a bit more)

The super expensive India Business Law Journal lets you author an article every month for a year subject to the condition that you buy a certain number of copies for distribution to clients and others. The money is ostensibly for the copies but is actually the consideration for the space reserved for your articles which of course carry your photo, name and firm address prominently.
i think they overlap based on the partner whose team you'd be a part of, and what nature of work they undertake. Check out Hemant Krishna's team in SAM bangalore, his work profile is mostly tech with corp and m&a
Why do you think so? Was thinking of interning there (any details would really help)
Lex Falcon and Forbes are frontrunners in this ▮▮▮. It's unfortunate that clients even take these recognitions/ awards seriously….
I bill this client quarterly. This quarter, the client racked up a 15L bill. This client has secured favourable orders in some of the cases that count. There were no losses. The other cases, relatively, aren't high stakes. There are 20 cases in total, not just one. I have incurred substantial personal expenses for flight tickets, hotel reservations, stationery, printing/scanning, etc. I have to pay my team and external vendors too. They are being remarkably patient and I intend to pay them within seven days - even if I have to dip into my funds. I might have to take out a personal loan to avoid fiscal instability after repaying everyone. I have a hunch that this client is taking advantage of my being stretched and is arm-twisting me for a shakedown/discount. I say this because the client doesn't respond to messages about other ongoing cases. Also, because this client has cleared bills of other external vendors that bill it directly in these cases (including senior counsels). I get the blue ticks but no reply to my updates on matters related to other ongoing cases now. I feel like he's doing ground work to replace me and default on my payments. This client has only one follow-up message on this default. It was sent after two weeks (after the invoice issuance date). It was replied to with an assurance that the matter would be addressed soon. It has been some days since this reply. Has anyone been betrayed or arm-twisted in this fashion by a client after securing favorable orders?

What should I do? I still some have his very valuable papers. I know what you all are now thinking and I don't want to be that person. I don't wish to shred them just yet. I just want to do great work and be paid fully and on time.
A genuine question to the LI hivemind. I know a person who has been assisting my father in his chamber for a long time now. He is around 55 years, knows a lot of the practical aspects of law. He really wants to get an LLB degree so that he can practise in smaller courts and earn a little more. He can't quit his present job because he has got a family to support. I am looking for some lesser known college anywhere in India where he can get enrolled, pay the fees, but will not have to attend classes other than maybe a week in every semester if required. I can help him with his studies as much as he needs to do well in his exams etc. Preferably not somewhere that costs a lot (maybe less than a lakh a year), as I will be trying to sponsor his fees from my own personal savings as a student. This person already has got a Masters degree with English Honours. He is not looking to get a degree by doing nothing, but is willing to work hard on his studies, just cannot attend formal classes for aforesaid reasons. If anyone has got any suggestion, please be help. Please be kind and don't troll. TIA.

@Mod: Please allow the comments here as quickly as you can, will be grateful.
Totally agree with the above comment. On this platform after many years. Found this thread - above msg is to the point. Apart from the left nostril - right nostril specialization in larger offices of the firm there are many more reasons to not join LKS at this point of time. Its too backward an org when it comes to freedom associated with current gen. Me being 10 yrs older could not digest their means. Too much of 'chatai', cheap politics, grapewine, backbiting, promotions based on vested interests, mid level to senior level have their own agendas going on. Toxic culture by the book. The super seniors have done their part and not much interested on what the kids and the senapatis appointed by them are doing. The senapatis have started behaving like the maharajas and are of course of the lowest order. Absolute lack of class. They have just mugged up a few judgments and want to show around how important they are by bashing anyone at their wish - including clients. Many in house counsels who worked in LKS and are now on the other side of the table are made fun of in client-counsel meetings in front of their new colleagues. Interesting !!
House is not in order - Chopping of good resources - promoting only the 'obedient' ones. Not allowing good resources to grow - specially if they have their own opinion and the opinion does not matches with that of the managers.
Filtered messaging by middle mgmt. across the board - what suits the messenger is passed on - what does not, is supressed. (Messenger has grown - as he/she followed the above methods - Currently 2-3 layers of such people are in the org. - so do not expect an easy repair any soon.)
Targeted work allocation: some team members slog and some just do few matters with big billings - at the end of the year/ half year billing is same. Team members are judged on the billings done. There are many other parameters in the HR sheet - though billing is the most important criteria (which is fair from a business perspective). Who does most work is bound to make a few accidents - those will be highlighted - as the person is being targeted. Blunders by the others - even causing crores of losses to the client and client leaving the firm - are cunningly tidied up. Of course gender has a role to play here - but lets keep our eyes and ears closed to that aspect for this discussion. Except a few teams - most are facing the above issues - across the firm - across cities. The above is not 'bhadas' - but well researched, discussed and analyzed view formed!
And yes with the change in legal scenario - introduction of GST - large tax focussed firms are going to be less relevant in the future - what played out in the mature economies is bound to happen in India - very soon - say a decade. Those interested can read about the US, EU and Chinese tax firms.
Any idea about his new place Boolean legal or about his work before that. How is his reputation in transactions
It is to be revised from July (weird calendar they follow) and the revision is still below Tier 1
I was in a similar spot (not this bad). However, I believe this advice will help you (PS- someone close gave me). Sleep well. Just figure out a way and sleep well (Tip: watch sunsets and sunrises). Relax. Do breathing exercises and physical activities that will take your heart rate up. Try becoming physically fit. Rest, things will fall in place. When your prospective employers see you as a fit and able person who is sorted out in life, they will inevitably hire you. Just get sorted in terms of mental and physical health first. Everything is connected. Your mental wellbeing is affected by your lack of employment. But reverse is also very much true. So about time you adopt the reverse methodology in life. Trust me, it works well. All the best. Prayers and Blessings.
Question in title. Received my PPO a few months ago but no joining letter has been issued by Tri. Any word would be nice.
Do you guys have any insight into the salaries for Associate Partners and Partners at ELP? Additionally, what's the typical timeframe for someone to progress to the Associate Partner level?
Consider doing an LLM but only from a top NLU like NLSIU, NLUD (their new WIPO LLM is great), NALSAR and at the maximum NUJS. This will help you to properly hunt for a job for one year and you will get another qualification.
Amish Agarwala Sir

To the mods:

This is not trolling, his YT could be arguably called slightly goofy but his advocacy is top notch in my opinion.
Reeba Chacko, Harish, Kota Chandran, anand jaychandran - they are all very good in CAM. It is the go to firm in Bangalore, definitely good to work with Reeba and her vertical.
Its depressing and demotivating, but the sad truth is that even the so called most prestigious and international journals are routinely offering nominations, shortlist mentions and recognitions for a price.

If an event is planned for the award then it is extremely likely that more than merit has gone behind an award.

Even most of the 100 under 100 type of awards :) are managed.
For HC, you don't need 15L per hearing, to be honest.

Keep in mind, a lot of criminal law advocates practicing in HC do not specialise in bodily injury crimes. White collar crimes, sure, but nothing like murder.

There are a lot of renowned lawyers I've seen who, frankly, have glanced over finer points of trial/evidence/facts and have focussed only on what the SC has said on interpretation of one phrase. Both aspects are important. Especially in a murder case.

For something like this, I'd recommend Sidharth Luthra or Rebecca John.

If your briefing counsel is also someone who specialises in murder/bodily injury crimes, it would definitely be better. Rajiv Mohan comes to mind. PK Dubey also - but he has become a senior two years ago.
Wadia by a mile. Their B&F team is tier 1 equivalent in the Mumbai circuit and you willl be able to shift to bigger firms in a year or two because of the reputation it has in the aforementioned space.

Nobody really respects Saraf or Luthra in the tier 1 market so avoid both, if possible.
Pradeep Dey, Sr. Advocate is just about the best lawyer for this, but unfortunately not "popular" in today's sense. If you want an acquittal, he may be the guy. Well known amongst the Delhi HC bench as well.
They offer good internships - also offer assessment internships and PPO. Stipend depends on work - quality and quantity. Good work gets good stipend. Only people who don't like the place are those who may not want to put in the extra effort.
What to expect? What areas do they focus on, how's the workload and are they hiring? I would love to know what y'all think.
Yes, offering law programs should be the absolute monopoly of state NLUs. No other university should dare to foray into this.
Buddy, folks at Google and Meta who thought they were changing the world got laid off. This is nothing.

Chin up. Apply for another job. Just say - you wanted to try out a new practice area/ field of work. Took a break in between. Don’t bitch about your previous employer during the interview.

Life is about falling and picking yourself back up. Topping in exams doesn’t teach you this. It’s ok.

All the best!
I just completed an amazing internship with the DR team and my team also really liked my work. Can I expect a call for a PPO interview or should I abandon all hope?
some chambers would have seniors who have prior work ex in law firms. any way you can connect with them if you know them and ask for a referral? alternatively, try getting in touch with recruiters.
Yes this is fine but why not restart the blogging section like court witness used to post?
What I am understanding is that most T1/2/3 have pay bands for their Associates at diff levels. And they can either choose to fit or choose not to fit an incoming Associate from a non-tier within their existing pay band. Ig it depends on the candidate and their work ex. So by negotiating a lower pay are you referring to the T1/2/3 firms not fitting an incoming Associate within their pay band?

If that's what they do, any way this can be overcome? What can one work on, to be paid in the same range? Be exceptionally well at work or have contacts? Ig things like the law school cannot be changed now.
We think debate and discourse of opposing views can be good and valuable, even on political stuff, as long as the arguments are bona fide honestly held and intended as an intellectual exchange, rather than just chest thumping, trolling or dog whistles. Unfortunately most political chat falls into the latter categories... :(
My dad has been wrongly convicted of murder by the tis hazari, I want the best Sr.'s who can sure shot secure acquittal at HC. Budget per hearing- 15L
Any specific Partners and teams you would have in mind in these firms? Any idea of any comparatively smaller firms that do good M&A work in Bangalore? Asking from the perspective of career development and upskilling prospects and also moving to a T1/2 later.
Have heard of them before. Any idea of the pay and work culture there? The team seems small and close-knit.
Thanks! Have heard this quite often about CAM Bangalore. Any specific Partner you would have in mind?

Also, any idea of NovoJuris and Khaitan Legal Associates (not KCO) in Bangalore?
Try the following - books and articles. As you said "law and legal theory", I understood you to mean you wanted Jurisprudence/legal philosophy readings (apologies, haven't abided by usual bibliographical conventions, just listed stuff which came to my head).

Books:

1. H.L.A. Hart, 'The Concept of Law'.

2. Ronald Dworkin, 'Law's Empire' (maybe also try 'Justice for Hedgehogs').

3. Lon L. Fuller, 'The Morality of Law'.

4. John Finnis, 'Natural Law and Natural Rights'.

5. J. Lear, 'Aristotle: the Desire to Understand'.

Articles:

1. H.L.A. Hart, 'Positivism and the Separation of Law and Morals'.

2. Noam Gur, 'Ronald Dworkin and the Curious Case of the Floodgates Argument'.

3. Kristen Rundle, 'The Impossibility of an Exterminatory Legality'.

*4. Eric Heinze, '*The meta-ethics of law: Book One of Aristotle’s Nicomachean Ethics'.

5. Brian Leiter, 'Legal Realism and Legal Positivism Reconsidered'.
Without any work experience or pubs- you should be in top third for duke and top 20% for cornell
Technical knowledge is a must because the client (even if the client is a friend) is coming for a legal advice and wants comfort that they are getting best advice possible. Personality obviously matters (person has to be nice to talk to and work with anything more than that is in favour of the partner).

While it may seem that senior partners only wine and dine with important clients and give instructions to the team, but that's not how it works in real life as these senior partners have to be part of the big transactions and work (again not saying that its gonna be brutal as other team members), the point being no one sits pretty and make money!
Which Partner at AZB? Nanditha Gopal? Any idea how are KCo and Trilegal M&A teams in Bangalore?
How do you know you’re the goodies and they’re the baddies if you won’t allow people to challenge your ideas ?

He has not disclosed which magazine/website sent him the mail, but Google shows that a website/magazine called Enterprise World gives an award by this same name:

https://theenterpriseworld.com/sahiba-ahluwalia-a-rising-force/

NOTE: Not suggesting that the lady featured in the link above paid for publicity.
Yes please, there shouldn't be a word limit on OPs. And any blog-like comment would get featured and if there's genuine interest we can build out the capacity for that also, such as stickying or a separate section perhaps?
The level of entitlement you kids have is LMAO. You pay cheap, subsidised fees at NLUs and expect a five-star gym, effectively at the cost of the Indian taxpayer???!!! If you want a top-end gym like Jindal you have to pay Jindal fees, i.e. you have to self-fund.
Double droppers are definitely considered, but if you are conscious about losing 2 years and spending another 5 studying, I would suggest that you do a 3 year undergrad and then a 2 year MBA, You use the 5 years more effectively then.
The legal job market is very bad, so I would always advise either studying STEM and trying for a PhD abroad, or doing an MBA .

If you are looking at a 3 year LLM, you are presumably a BA or BCom grad already. So why not go for an MBA?
There is little that distinguishes the Galgotia protestors who went viral and the Harvard-Ivy League protestors. Both have a very superficial, limited and reductive understanding of politics. The Galgotia kids are brainwashed by WhatsApp and being used as pawns by Hindutva elements. The Harvard/Ivy kids are brainwashed by woke professors and being used as pawns by Islamist/far-left elements. In the end, both are gullible and brainwashed, even though one set is wealthier and more elite than the other.
Got an internship offer from here...want to know the work culture? hiring procedure? stipend? basically any information at all would be helpful! Thanks
What even is this question..fema is a legislation cap marks is a practice area, you will use fema in cap marks. That is like asking if I should do companies act or m&a?
For the interview:

They ask basic interview questions like "tell us about yourself"; "why law?"; "why SLSP?". If you have participated in extra-curricular / co-curricular activities during high school / school generally, carry certificates. They might ask how you may contribute to the activities in the law school.
I think they aren't all that interested in this stuff right now. You might be doing a lot more thinking on it than they are :). There are local elections going on here at the moment (not the GE, which happens later this year). The UK PM is potentially facing a battle for his own survival, in case the local elections, which took place yesterday, go badly for the current political dispensation (results declared until now certainly show things not looking too good for them...). I think Sunak is more concerned, at least for now, about whether (i) the Tories win two key mayoralty contests; (ii) how badly the Tories lose various local councils; and (iii) if they perform badly in the electoral contests mentioned in (i) and (ii), if diehard anti-Sunak plotters can convince enough MPs to put in letters of no confidence, and, if they do, how to head off this potential coup. One of the only consolation factors for Sunak RN is the fact that, in the recent Blackpool South by-election, the Conservative Party, while being beaten by Labour, didn't come third - it was feared that one of the pressure-points for Tory MPs would be if Reform UK, a party even more to the right of the Tories, came second.
going to be flat broke after paying rent and deposit and brokerage, any tips to survive? Fr cannot afford furniture, gonna keep all my stuff in my suitcase xD

Would it be better to stay in a PG initially and shift later or will it be difficult to find flats/too much of a hassle?
At least someone is concerned about the one thing that will impact the lives of most people who come and read this blog... else this website has almost ended becoming a glass door equivalent for students and jobseekers... :) no offences meant..

Sorry to say this, but SILF has won this round of the battle as well... despite rules having been made for the entry, no one followed up..

The Indian corporate law firm scene is likely to remain the same. Space currently occupied by the old ruling families will be ceded to new age gangs of boys, who will be no different. So sit back and try and enjoy the ride
everyone gets in SLS, if you don't, it was some admin-related issue/your application got lost - not something you did. Chill and have fun in the interview. Trust me, EVERYONE gets in.
Mods please post the comment, it has been more than 24 hours that a comments have not been posted.
They are really supportive when it comes to learning part or offering internships again. They don't pay stipend. Great firm to start with! many of my seniors are rocking in the pat dept.
Just look at the heavy-handed moderation of this thread lol

Just a few weeks ago, some comments regarding 'having litigation in their blood', some other poster claiming to be a third-gen and unabashedly boasting how they hate non-nepos were published on this very site

Just look at the non-published comments on this thread
what are some extremely dark and manipulative things your colleagues (including juniors, peers and seniors) have done? things that go beyond routine stuff like pushing back on timelines, bickering etc but instances which made you go “this person is clinically deranged”
Such as stronger IP laws and reduction of tariffs on imported cars, alcohol, chocolate, apples and other British products? In other words, if you ask for Rs 100 then settle for Rs 75?
It is so ironic that a post related to an alternative is modded so damn slow.
reviving this site will take only one thing- mod improving moderation speed and stopping the biased censorship even in threads where every comment agrees except one questionable one and in a few days, all the comments support the subject.
No, some firms have this policy, but must will negotiate pay lower than usual. Like someone else said, someone with 4 5 years exp won't be starting as A1 fs
Why is it important to have coaching institute for an entirely different career in a professional degree program? We don't have IAS coaching institutes inside AIIMS, do we? Because people go to medical schools to become doctors; as they should go to law school to become lawyers.
It's not frivolous. Whatever works for you to create community in a new city are important. Whether a house party or catching up outside..
The moderation has gotten very slow past couple of weeks. I would like to volunteer, on the dark side of course. I have gotten a PPO and have free time on my hands to help people out. If you guys need any help, I will gladly help. I have been using this place since my first year and some of the threads helped me out. And many didn't but the ones that did meant a lot.
What score should one target to get into SLS Pune? Basically, what will be an ideal safe score? Also, can people who got through interview tell what questions they were asked and can they advice something to this year's candidates?
While viewing a few students from the recent batch, I have noticed that majority of the batch are freshers straight after 12th grade and a few of them are droppers. My question is, Are double droppers even considered for SLS Pune?
Are you gatekeeping discrinination? Micro aggressions like the ones the poster described are absolutely discrimination. Must Dalits be murdered for you to consider that 'discrimination' and take their plight seriously?
Electricity Law, I feel perhaps is the most lucrative Tribunal to practice. Apart from APTEL, there's i think electricity commissions in every state. If i am not wrong at JSA one of two key managing partners Amit Kapur also solely practices electricity law. in fact, Vishrov Mukherjee who was the other high profile partner to move to Tri last year, with Anuj Berry, also solely practices electricity law. Even Akshay Jaitly (Tri co-founder) was key person in electricity law and routinely puts up electricity sector posts on his Linkedin.

A close friend who practices electricity keeps telling me me how in SC electricity law matters are some of the biggest commercial matters with dispute value almost always being above 500-800cr and its only the top tier silk gowns who are briefed. I feel the reason is that its the playing field of adanis, tatas, reliance, vedanta, renew power. He tells me Tri, KCO, JSA, DSK are knee deep in the practice. There a lot of small boutiques firms like SKV and MSA Partners with a good chunk of the work who are good paymasters as well. to summarize electricity is some serious money for those who can get in.
Can someone please brief me about salary and work culture offered at ALG for freshers?
Bhai kuch batao whats going on. Are these guys paying on time or extending a luthra culture?
They keep changing their interview format. I had my interview last September when there were 2 rounds. They asked me basic HR question along with CV specific questions. My friend who interned there in February had a debate round for the interview.

They take internship interviews very seriously (even the HR round) so prepare accordingly. Good Luck!
@LegallyIndia whats with the hold up? I can volunteer to moderate in the evening slots, seeing as you guys only moderate either in the morning or at night.
I was told to avoid this place during my induction. I have seen my junior batches being told to do the same. The place seems a bit scary no doubt, but what is the story behind this generational boycott?
