As for the alleged notoriety, it seems to be the fate of all elite institutions: everything happening inside these places acquires a disproportionate emphasis. The good that happens is expected and rarely invites comment and the bad that happens is frustrating and gets significantly greater attention.

The confluence of astronomical fees, humongous batch sizes, mediocre faculty, broken infrastructure, degrading student quality, regressive thinking, and uncertain placements is making this a perfect storm for NLS, and it cannot be reversed. Being a state university, it does not have the leverage to shape things.
Nice joke. New faculty hires are 2024 graduates.
If you really want to abuse the hires, at least take the intellectual effort to do it properly: ask why NLS is needing to dig into this pool. Why aren't they able to find PhD graduates only? People who'd have graduated LLB at least five years ago? Give them a good supply of PhD graduates - and not from the so-called "PhD programmes" of the overwhelming majority of Indian unis, whose certificates (considering the quality of their graduates) are worth one third the price of a toilet roll from a Sainsbury's store in the UK - but actual, genuinely talented folks, with writing samples of PhD thesis chapter length ready, PhD vivas hopefully complete, at least one good publication, teaching experience while a PhD student, with book contracts from Hart Publishing, OUP, CUP etc. Tell NLS where this bunch of talented graduates with such achievements to their name can be found, and I think they would really find that helpful.
You know what? You really can't. That's why NLS needs not to recruit the best of the best faculty, but the best from a bad lot.
