We want LI to be one of the friendliest places on the internet, where lawyers and law students help each other with their career related queries and occasionally discuss other stuff that might affect their lives too. In other words:
1. Be kind, respectful and helpful to each other.
2. Be bona fide, truthful, genuine and curious.
3. Assume the best intention of others.
Therefore, in using the site, you must agree to do your best to uphold these community guidelines.
Note that what you find here is written and moderated by anonymous people on the internet.
Therefore everything you read here is very likely unverified, rumour, speculation and/or downright false.
In continuing to read anything here, you must therefore agree not to take anything you read here as factual and that you will exercise due caution, diligence and common sense before acting on any information you may come across here.
You also agree to report any inaccurate or malicious comments with the buttons. Moderators take action within 24 hours, as required and appropriate under law.
Our full terms and conditions apply too.
Do you solemnly agree to all of the above?

Also, speak to close friends about this. They may be going through the same issue and will be better abe to sympathise with you. Lawyers need a strong support system which can help them bounce back.
If it’s getting too bad, tolerate it till you have decent level of experience that you can switch to another place.

The admin seriously needs to do something
Also do remember there is always a bigger fish if you think that people can’t outpower you.
(p.s I am doing projects and infra with a boutique firm).
Arun Kathpalia is a senior who virtually does no self-promotion yet he is unanimously recognised as an insolvency expert. By this popularity metric some law firm principal associate in Legal500 would be felicitated over him in LI just because of these paid-for rankings.
He liked to write for newspapers and give quotes but never bothered to write himself. He would not give credit to associates who wrote for him even in office for the fear that they will be recognized by other firms and leave the firm.
He also would get upset if associates hang out without him for the fear that they are getting along and would talk about him. In fact he would actively try to get associates to distrust each other.
He would also keep an eye on all the associates during practitioners meet to ensure they do not talk or approach any other partners and if an associate left to join a competitor he would go out of his way to spread stories of how they stole data, shared clients info and all.
Out of interest - do many people still find the old LI homepage useful for seeing an overview of latest comments, or do you directly go to https://www.legallyindia.com/convos ?

Unless you don't, relocating them periodically seems like a pretty good plan
First, anybody earning more than a lakh per month isn't a middle class individual financially in this country.
Secondly, most of these things are luxuries and not essentialities for marriage or leading a happy life.
Thirdly, it is true that the bulk of the population belongs to lower income groups. However, the entire economy actually rests on them being exploited by people like us so as to live our lives comfortably. So the least that you can do is not pass off snide remarks to them, because our fancy lives depend on them remaining uneducated and making poor life choices.
Play as a friend and poke holes in their work but dont get caught. Cause the nepo baby to commit 2-3 disaster level mistakes.
In either way, nepo babies dont last long without performance. Chill.
Sir you are mistaken. That all is necessary to get married if you are middle class , upper middle class or higher class.
70% of our population are rural and uneducated people and THEY are the reason of population explosion. They get married and reproduce at fast pace without giving a damn about consequences.
NONE of my friends are married But EVERY person who has worked as "driver or cleaner" in my home married in 2021/2022 and now have a kid !
Also co living and all is fine but I don’t appreciate dogs scourging my hostel floors dustbin at any random hour of the day/night. And this beautiful thing happens when I live on the second floor. Can’t imagine what the scene is like at lower floors.
Thanks also to new mods for devoting time and making an effort to sustain this website for free exchange of information and inside secrets of the industry.

That’s precisely the point
If planning for marriage :-
1. You need really good job (1L per month or more)
2. Living in good city
3. Car (Swift minimum )
4. Have calm nerves and can handle mood swings
5. Doesnt talk or lash out much but a patient listener
6. Is able to keep your office stress to yourself
7. Can cook
8. Decent looking
9. Doesnt not come from toxic family if staying with parents OR you live separately and visit them on vacations / festivals only.
10. Is not possessive / jealous , helicopter spouse and questions her every move!
Thats for marriage.
If dating, I think women prefer looks first, popularity second , and resourcefulness third. They just want to have fun in those cases. Fun requires money and time.
I started off my career with 11k at a cosmopolitan city and the money I was paid meant I did not have the financial capacity to take a bike on an EMI.
Fortunately, my brother agreed to give his Honda Activa to me and with that, I managed my daily commute.
I spent three months at my first office with a senior who expected me stay in the office from 9.30am to 8.30pm on the weekdays and upto anywhere between 3-4pm on weekends.
I quit in my fourth month and joined a law firm as I came from a law school. I was initially paid a paltry sum but within 2 years, I managed to find a job with a very good salary.
Litigation offices can have bossy people all around who give a damn to your personal and emotional well being.
The senior I worked with was a gentleman who worked more than I did and really took care of me like his younger brother. However, it was not me in time to spend the whole day in the office and yet think thrice to go attend a family's event at 8.30 pm, for that required me to walk upto the senior and ask for a permission to leave the office before he did. Leaving office before your senior does is frowned upon, but that is an established practice and here to stay.
If you intend to continue litigating, you need to forego quite a bit on the personal front in the first six to eight years of your practice.
All the best !

Lol.
Infact, I dont want to get into disputes team. Its worst. I want to do M/A , GCA or well, litigate in SAT / NCLT
They do so to maintain DIGNITY / Image.
AFAIK, Dua Associates is dying out. Still when you apply for an internship , you get a rejection mail within a day!
Internship in Dua is a matter of personal contact solely. Just a bunch of Old People running the firm.
I help you find a guy , and you help me find a way to get into corp . Deal ? 😄
Pls talk soon
Best wishes and regards
I am looking for friends in mumbai / delhi . I am not strictly looking for a partner. But i wish to talk to someone before jumping on road to metro bandwagon .
Infact, the amount of exploitation is same in law firms but they get paid atleast.
I want to add few more points :-
1. You can only litigate efficiently as long as your LEGS are fine.
2. You need highly connected social circle to get best cases. With so much time in office you cant socialize much.
3. No opportunity to do remote work, unlike other fields like CA or Software jobs.
4. Crazy work hours will not allow you to devote much time to family or friends. You become a dead person with no soul. Dark eyes. Tired all the time.
5. Over time you become unhealthy, no work life balance , back issues , common survical pain. You get diabetes around 40s.
6. Bar is a toxic acid spewing Monster
7. Problem of uncle judges and papa justices.
8. As economy/inflation is rising, other pvt sectors are getting remunerated proportionately . It is not uncommon for youngers to do CA / CS / Software jobs and crack Big4/MAANG companies and earn 15-20LPA easily at age of 20-23 .
In contrast, income in govt jobs and litigation practise (or CA practise ) does not increase as steeply.
9. High Chance of diorce in litigation and law firm due to work hours
Even if Junior starts to work independently that high an amount comes maybe after 25 years into profession.
Moreover, that amount per hearing is for 0.01% of Lawyers like Salve and that too only in Bombay Hc , Delhi HC , NLCT(/AT) , SAT , NCDRC , NGT or SC.
There is not THAT high amount of fees in other High Courts.
University should be place to study. Next should be accessing academic block only in proper attire.
If the students go to law firm offices in proper attire after graduation, they should also go to proper attire in faculty offices and classrooms. Academic block is not a drawing room that students can enter directly from their bed.
Please only share incident - not names as it will get moderated and defeat the purpose of this thread.
I was motivated to write this post, as I saw my immediate senior get passed over this year for promotion despite him being really good at what he does. My partner was really nice to him until he was a Counsel (he started his career with her) and then she started doing shady things like: (a) she wouldnt let him post legal updates etc on Linkedin or write articles/blogs without her being a co-author; (b) actively stopped him from getting staffed on matters with other partners or close supervision of managing partner; (c) she publicly berated him for not doing BD, but on the other hand would not give him any internal BD opportunities, claim prior relationship with anyone he proposed meeting, refused matters he sourced citing low fees and yet accepted similar matters at lower rates.
We are in a niche practice so its not like leaving for elsewhere is an immediate choice. Now I fear that same will happen to me - is my fear valid? Was this just an equation thing between her and my senior. Surely i wont be treated the way?
Also check out the TOS of similar websites. If a user posts something defamatory on Twitter/X, Twitter won't be liable for the defamatory content, but it will be the user. Hence we have the reporting feature to make such users accountable. If Twitter fails to moderate such reported content within the prescribed timelines then maybe some liability will arise for Twitter.
@kianganz
However, for marriage or long term relationships they care about resources more
That being said, law in general pays poor. There are very few firms that pay decently and even then, the work life is massively screwed for anyone to establish even some semblance of a balance.
