Can someone please let me what is the average package for a fresher law graduate from private college if I am opting for out of campus placement? I feel depressed listening to 3-4 lakhs package. Like I expect minimum around 8-10 lakh for this 5 years degree
mostly questions from the specific team. You might get some related questions. CV and your internship work is the most important, followed by very basic general knowledge of all other fields.
Just finished my assessment internship, and am expecting an interview at a T1 firm. Will the PPO interview questions be restricted to your CV or can they ask any question? In case of specialized teams like IPR, B&F or Tax, will the technical questions be restricted to your specific field, or can they ask questions from Gen Corp and IBC. Some advice would be appreciated.
It is infact a lucky shot. I have good national moot performances, above average batch rank, two publications, tier 2 law school and will be starting with 4th year - 0 tier 1 firm internships. And I've applied to every single one of them, with customized, non-AI generated, proper cover letters. Thank your stars.
You didn't ever crack either exam, otherwise you would have been aware of the fact that NRI/NRI-sponsored candidates also have to sit for CLAT. Only foreign nationals do not.
it is the opposite of liberalism to claim that people must all think alike or be called bigots. Liberalism at its core is about freedom of speech and thought- even to think and speak dangerous heretical ideas such as males are not women.
How has anyone said anything homophobic or heteronormative here? No one has said people shouldnt be homosexual here? Why are you force teaming? Is it because gender ideology cannot stand on its own two feet? is it trans phobic to say lesbians arent attracted to penises? or is it homophobic to contradict that?
How do you know what direction progress is in? How are you so certain because someone claimed they were "most marginalised" ? Many brahmins will claim theyre the most marginalised caste group in the country- will you believe them also or will you put that claim to the same scrutiny gender ideology is being put to here?
Why should any feminism- let alone radical feminism- include or cater to men? What is wrong with being a terf? Why should women always make room for men even within their own movement? Do you resent labour movements for excluding capitalists?
Before you pronounce that others have a lot to learn- consider that you might not have omniscient knowledge of everything. And consider that people have gone and educated themselves and come to different conclusions than you. A little intellectual humility goes a long way.
I love this. Ill engage as long as you want sweetie. Im quite confident about my thinking on this issue. I was on the trans side and changed my mind after thinking about it. Theres no one quite so eager to debate as an apostate.
1) People first language was pioneered by disability rights activists- someone isnt just lame or blind- its a person with ambulatory/ visual disabilities. To be clear- I have no problem with that. You dont even know the history of this rhetoric. The reason trans activists want us to use "pregnant people" "people with cervixes" etc- is because they want us to play along with the delusion that men can give birth or that women can have penises. Thats just not true- the only coherent explanation of the words man and woman is- adult human male, adult human female. Thats it. Everything else is social stereotype and gender expression- go on then- define for me what a man or a woman is without resorting to a circular definition. The research into pain im talking about is absolutely limited to adult human females- women. men cannot get pregnant- they dont have ovaries or uteruses. the reason that research was not done- was because women's pains and problems were dismissed as whinging and at worse- as hysteria by male dominated medical industry in the past. nothing to do with any trans people- women- adult human females. It wouldnt have changed if the women had butched it up, had double mastectomies and changed their pronouns. Being an adult human female is not a medical condition. Being an adult human female is about the normal thing for half the people in this world. Without women no body would be alive. to reduce being a woman to "pregnant person" suggests that pregnancy is a malady one is going through which is not the case. Pregnancy is just a part of life. And the problems women face when pregnant dont end at birth. Have you heard of post partum depression? Do you even know what happens to womens bodies and how long it takes to recover post pregnancy?
babies dont at random choose which parent will gestate them- its always the adult human female- the woman. No body in my family or in any family I know has been born from a male- do you know any?
Calling adult human females "pregnant persons" treats them as individuals that do not belong to a collective identity. They absolutely have a collective identity- women. And they deserve that identity to be able to speak about their collective suffering. To not allow them to do so in order to please men is misogynistic.
Not only that- thinking of pregnancy as a transient condition that could afflict anyone at random mischaracterises it. its part of being a woman- its not a singular event- and all women and only women are affected by laws and policies regarding pregnancy. Trans-women cannot get pregnant or have abortion- they are male- they are adult human males- men. Sorry if that hurts feelings- but its not kind to lie to people experiencing distress.
2) We cannot include "non binary" "intersex" and "trans" all along with women because the world isnt divided into men and everyone else- thats an incredibly sexist way of looking at the world. adult human females- women- form most of the planet- they form their own damn category. The best argument for non binary is that a person exists whose soul is not masculine or feminine- congratulations sweetheart none of the rest of us have masculine or feminine souls either- youre just as special as everyone else. Even if I get past the fact that the existence of souls is not proven, why would a soul have a gender that is so culturally specific? do american non binary souls wear skirts and indian non binary souls wear sarees? its all nonsense.
"Non binary" asserts that there are souls and that for a few special people their souls have no culturally specific gender. I would assert that gender roles and stereotypes are nonsense. No one really feels all masculine or all feminine all the time. Everyone is nonbinary in their personality- that doesnt mean youre not a male or a female and it doesnt mean you wont be a boy/man or a girl/ woman depending on age. Its incredibly cruel to think other people lack the rich inner life you think you have. Same with trans- there is no such thing as being born in the wrong body- you only get one body in this world- who elses body should you have been born in? There is only non conforming behavior- and im all for it. If youre a girl and you want to do traditionally masculine things- go on. You have full support. Become a bus driver, join the army, do sports, be the bread winner. If youre a boy and you want to do traditionally feminine things- dance in the ballet or wear sarees or spend your time playing with dolls- go for it. Id fully support you. But that feeling doesnt make you the opposite sex. That feeling doesnt mean you have to get disastrous operations or get hormones which will shred your body. And that feeling doesnt mean that males can be women. Catering to those feelings over the material concerns of women is the definiton of misogyny.
Which exact trans people and non binary people are included in "pregnant people" ? are they adult human females? then they are women. Thats all there is to it. Im not trying to exclude people. You are. You think women are not women if they like to do manly things or have masculine interests. I see the butchest lesbian in the world and I just think shes a woman. Because in my book being a woman is not a dirty thing.
3) I have said not one thing about traditional parenting roles you numpty. Are you really this thick? This allegation is made in such incredible bad faith I have to say it causes outrage. To say women birth and nurture their babies from their body isnt to say that women should stay home and take care of kids or that men should go to work and be emotionally distant. Youre setting up a false binary- either women are bound to behave one way because of biology- or biology is irrelevant. As with most things in human nature- biology and socialisation are intertwined, and one can figure out if biology needs to determine individual life choices or shackle sex classes to gender roles. My mother worked most of my life and my dad stayed home to take care of us- that didnt mean she wasnt my mother anymore- she had given birth to me and nourished me from her body. Thats all im saying. You are the one imposing gender roles and telling people " if you dont want to act according to these gender roles- maybe you should try to change sex and claim you have a different sexed soul".
I dont think taking care of ones own children is dreadful miserable unpaid labour. I think theres plenty of joy to be found in taking care of ones own children and plenty of fulfillment. I want to live in a world where women dont have to pay a penalty for having children with employment- but I dont see womanhood as a curse. You do.
What man are you talking about that can get pregnant and doesnt have a penis? is that person female? is she an adult human? how do you explain what a man is if he does not have small gametes that could produce sperm? You have confused sex and gender roles and gender stereotypes so much it has lapsed into incoherence. Only adult human females- women- can get pregnant. I dont care about claims about special gender souls- most religious people think they have special souls that doesnt make their religions literally true.
Do you even know what intersex is? there are essentially 5 different types of conditions- disorders of sexual development- where a baby might be born who doesnt have strictly xx or xy chromosomes. this may be any number of combinations, xxy, xyy, xy but with genital defects, xx with genital defects- whatever. Intersex is as far from trans as paralympians are from those guys who have phantom leg syndrome or famine victims are from bulimics. there is no belief claim with intersex people. theyre not claiming they can be women if they say so, theyre not saying they have special non-binary gender souls. They have medical conditions which- in most cases- people dont even know they have this genetic defect- they carry on just fine. In cases where there is a visual bodily defect- people do get tested and find out that they have a chromosomal abnormality. There is an all too easy way to resolve that- if you have y chromosomes- youre a male. And if you have only x chromosomes- youre female. thats it.Thank you for coming to ted talk. However they want to dress or present themselves is fine- but they should know- if they have y chromosomes theyre not female and they cannot get pregnant. It is disgusting that you want to coopt people with genuine medical conditions into this crazy gender soul movement that wants to hurt women.
Our legal system doesnt need to recognise intersex individuals because 1) most intersex individuals wont know thats what they are- and 2) those that do- still fit into the male female binary. There are no rights that they do not have that other people have. If they are violated without consent by quacks when they are babies- that is assault and medical malpractice. A legal remedy already exists.
You can keep trying to "correct" me. Cause I know the possibility of a woman engaging in "wrongthink" is awful to you and you need to correct them as if theyre too stupid to understand your complicated (read:bullshit) philosophy or religion. But what you cannot do is claim im the insensitive one when you dont want adult human females- women- to have language to speak about their suffering and their rights as a sex class. You think butch lesbians are not women because you define womanhood by adherence to outdated stereotypes. Why do you dislike women or something? Why do you want women to not exist?
They are calling you misogynist, you are calling them queerphobic, most of us believe that you two have got way less work and way more free time in your hand than you should.
Don't listen to the naysayers and pessimists here. As a lawyer or someone associated with the law, our job literally requires us to read more than any other profession. So definitely expand your reading. What's the worst that can happen ? You'll disagree and criticise the author. The best that can happen is you'll learn something new or be inspired. Never limit reading and researching based on your opinions, perspective or ideologies. Read as much as you can. The best jurists, advocates and academics that I've met are well read across the field, irrespective of ideology. Don't box yourself in what anyone says. Plus if it's someone from a different ideology than that's even more important to read as it challenges your perspective and strengthens your beliefs. Don't listen to the echo chamber idiots.
What is wrong with you? Why do you have such a strong gatekeeper vibe?
1. The OP didn't mention they're being "made to read it", much less in a coaching centre. Why would you just assume that? Because when you were in 12th you didn't read anything other than prescribed course materials?
2. Palkhivala's book is still a cited source for tax law, and his arguments in landmark cases are still frequently referred to and remembered. He is still very much taken seriously in some fields and I don't know why people are hellbent upon proving otherwise.
3. If you took your head out of your behind you might have realised the book is ABOUT Palkhivala and not BY him (the OP is mistaken but they are a class 12 kid, you should be better you elitist). A biography of a stalwart lawyer might have some takeaways or at least fun/cool anecdotes. In any case, if his views are as you've described, then it's better to suggest someone to read and think critically about them (perhaps also by reading alternate, critical works) than telling them to bury them.
4. Caste Matters is a sociology book on caste, how is it a suitable alternative to the biography of one lawyer? At least if you'd suggested Waiting for a Visa as an alternative biographical read I could have taken you seriously
It seems that the present government is following Nani's policies only. Those other people whom you mention are irrelevant in the context of country and governance.
I actually read 'We the People", We the Nation" and one other book authored by NA Palkhivala when I was in 12th even though I was a science student then and was not planning for law career.
not at all. majority people in any batch come through one or the other quota. sc, st, obc, ews, j&k, domicile, sports, nri sponsored, foreign national, pwd and i may be missing some. All of this combined forms about 3/4th of any batch. So it is chill. please don't worry, you will be fine.
My father is an educated brahmin. He actually hustled to get where he is today. A well respcted lawyer in the community. He considers dalits, poor people, and the minorities who have a "lot of kids"sub humans. He also finds there isn't descrimination in Modi's India. I think you will get along.
Having gotten a PPO from a Tier 1 firm (interned via Recruitment Committee) I can tell you what NOT to do. In other words, things which have ABSOLUTELY ZERO value to your prospects or your network and might actually have negative value because it annoys people and they may remove you from their network and just generally take you less seriously.
1. Do NOT post stupid posts like "happy to share I have received an internship offer from xyz", or "share your new position" as an intern with your "network". Only one kind of post is decent enough for people not to hate you and that's a post-internship post where you thank folks in your team and HR and summarise what you did or learnt. Please don't be cringy enough to upload your internship certificates either as posts or in your profile.
2. Do NOT like random posts by others (like the above, jokes {yes even law related} and "my struggle" posts that don't culminate in some specific recent achievements or selfies by attractive people in formals posted purely to increase engagement). People unfollow you and might even remove you as a connection.
3. When you post an internship on your profile, also mention your team and a few lines on the work you did.
4. Please for the love of God have a professional photo and cover photo. Using pictures of scales (โ๏ธ), suits/ties and collar band is extremely cringe and gives "class 12 CLAT aspirant" vibes. Please no selfies and no Snapchat filters.
5. Please never use the word "ante-penultimate" for 3rd year.

Registrar gets scalped and not the Director? No way the Registrar acted independently. What's the value of the affidavit filed by the Director? He is supposed to apply POSH Act/Rules and relevant UGC Rules in both letter and spirit.
If the Gujarat HC CJ's son is in NUJS shouldn't she have better idea about how NLU admins actually function. How did she miss the hoodwinks by the univ and state admins? Still, she is on a better wicket.
Look at how NLUJ played the HC and SC with the alleged murder case. Or IIT Kharagpur playing the Cal HC.
I remember LI pursue the story on GNLU Review Commission Report. Prof Menon (individually as a member) was scathing, which was a surprise since he was seen as an establishment man. Later GNLU had someone 'worthy' dilute those things and it was business as usual. Something similar happened with NALSAR, who got the state bar chief to whitewash (Only LI carried that story; where did Kian disappear?). Later he became a HC judge and retired as a CJ. Got some cushy sinecures too.
NUJS had its first review commission after 15 years! Wonder why the "stalwart trio" never bothered with the statutory obligation. Worse, why did the worthies including the Chancellor, gracing the GC/EC never bothered. Be that as it may, under student pressure the review took place. Whatever little "criticism/reality" seeped into the Report was due to intrepid students.
The Report snowballed into PIB and Co exits. Here too an Assistant Prof was handpicked as Registrar. But with PIB exit, he was smart enough to read the writing on the wall. So, he scooted and was later brought back by NKC. Maybe the potential of review reports to cause regime change had a chilling effect.
But the regime change had no effect on NUJS' terminal slide. Revival is unlikely if the usual business rules apply, which likely will.
Absolutely! Thank you for publishing the thread and for asking the question regarding accessibility, and more importantly, for being willing to do something about it. As for the mods doing a good job of this thread, I would agree! Considering the load they have to deal with, the levels of efficiency they have demonstrated in publishing even some of my longer responses in a timely manner have been quite amazing.
Not at all 'stupid questions'! The only error I think you have made is that your questions are predicated on the assumption that I have (or have had) to 'adapt' to blindness. While this may be the case for a number of blind or partially sighted people, that isn't so for me. I have been blind since the age of four, so the method of working I have described is my natural way of doing things, just as yours is the natural way for you to do things.
Acer Swift laptop (forget the model number), Windows 11 OS, with Non-Visual Desktop Access (NVDA) screen reader downloaded and enabled to start working by default whenever the computer is switched on.
Yes it is the homepage, just to clarify (apologies if that wasn't clear earlier).
As for screen reader recommendations, I use Non-Visual Desktop Access (NVDA). This is free to download (you get an optional donate dialogue box, which you can skip without impairing any software functionalities, as far as I know at least) and the only screen reader I have used properly. The most common choices of screen reader for blind people (on windows at least) are NVDA and Job Access With Speech (JAWS) (this latter requires payment, but I believe there is a free trial version). If you wanted to carry out an accessibility test of LI, you could try downloading NVDA and/or JAWS and reproducing this.
Thank you for this feedback on the usability, that's really valuable and interesting!
We didn't realise that there was a difference in the the comments section when signed in vs as a guest from the homepage (I presume?). Will see whether we can reproduce this!
Is there a specific screenreader software you would recommend to use on Windows, Mac or Linux for reproducing the website usability issues, or are they all fairly similar in capability and any of them would work?
That said, the mods have generally done a great job on this thread, you missed nothing interesting, and thank you to all readers for asking interesting questions and to OP for the amazingly patient and insightful responses.
Thank you also for your feedback on the screenreader UX issues. We'll see if we can reproduce and fix this.
Someone reported this as trollish, but not sure it is necessarily: giving the benefit of doubt, this comment is merely asking what device OP is currently using to type here?
Thanks! Thats useful. To answer your last question- I think I rely on sight a lot when i footnote or edit- I dont use zotero so I just footnote by sight. Obviously I cannot remember what the citation is so I copy paste and then edit. I would think if I couldnt see- if I had to keep going back and forth in the word doc figuring out what footnote to put where and figuring out what the citation is over and over- I would get pretty exhausted.
Maybe its not awkward but it seems it would be time consuming for sure.
With editing as well, yes it does help to hear your work read aloud some times, but more often than not I need to see the different paragraphs and how theyre structured when I edit. I move around sentences a lot and it would be annoying to me if I couldnt see and had to rely on screen reader to know whats going on. Perhaps im not taking into account how well people can adapt.
In any case Im glad you find these tasks to be doable and not too cumbersome. Good Luck to you! and thanks for answering stupid questions!
First of all, thank you. Absolutely, LI should really be given credit for publishing this and for asking good questions themselves (and this is before giving them credit for allowing lengthy comments/responses, a lot of the questions here are very thoughtful indeed and deserve good answers).
Second, I am sorry we didn't get to read your (non-abusive, of course) pun! Laughter is always a nice way to smash barriers, of whatever type. Call me ghoulish if you like, but I actually kind of want to read some of those comments marked "trollish" and placed into the "unpublished" pipeline by mods (out of a morbid sense of curiosity just to see how badly those people would have embarrassed themselves if they had been published) :)). Also, I am glad that you seem to have learned/taken away something useful from this yourself.
You are a mind-reader! How did you know that I would be considering graduate study options after my law degree? Anyway, to answer your specific question, my intention is to read for an LLM after graduation.
1. I would like to travel alone, but my parents are very nervous. So usually, my mother travels with me.
2. I do all my academic work by typing on a laptop, just like how the vast majority of students these days would, with the only difference being that I have a piece of software (called a 'screen reader') that reads out everything I type and everything else on the screen to me as well.
I came to this thread to make some (non abusive) pun. But seriously man, things I take for granted, someone might have to spend a lifetime perfecting an alternate for it. Thumbs up to OP and LI
Hi all, I have a callback internship in the GC and white collar crimes team. Could someone please guide me as to what all material to refer beforehand particularly for white collar crimes practice area to maximise my chances of securing a job at this place. Thanks!!!
lol. tort law is easy. But if we could all just learn law by reading books on our own we wouldnt need law school. Dont read Bangia- at least ratan lal Dhiraj lal padh lo- or maybe salmond- which is what I did.
Your batchmates know nothing. theyre throwing around words they dont even know what it means really. This is what every teacher who teaches first year will tell you- the job is doubly hard because you have to correct misconceptions and then teach the right thing. chill. Read history/ social sciences/ politics/ fiction books before university. Theres plenty of time to learn torts.
Lol. This is every idiot student who panics during exam time and tries to find some or the other reason to get them cancelled or get extensions.
When Gandhi protested British rule he went to jail for it. People who really believe in their cause are willing, even eager, to suffer consequences for their activism. The kids at columbia arent that. They dont understand or really believe in their own slogans- they just wanted to do social justice coachella and be rebels for a week- and now theyre upset when the adults they were calling murderers wont make concessions for them.
The police was called after protestors were told several times that it was an illegal emcampnet and they must evacuate. The police was called because a university building was taken over illegally by radical actors.
Criminals dont get to ask that the people they robbed should sponsor their bail.
This is the kind of thing cowards say to justify the fact that they only act in self interest. Do you know how many Indian students went to jail during emergency? Students are young enough to believe in a better world and to act on it. If everyone was a self interested sheep, India wouldn't have independence, women wouldn't have rights, slavery would exist and the Vietnam war wouldn't have stopped.
Says who? Cite some sources. It feels more like a social media vibe that NDA would not get a majority - like people simply want to make these claims because it grabs attention, without providing any supporting data. You can spot this trend in this thread itself - "I heard BJP may not get a full majority" heard from who? where? From some lame ass Whatsapp forward?
Down 9 lakhs in just a few days? lol what did you invest all your portfolio into Kotak? Which stocks did you invest into? Sounds like you just picked out stocks yourself on a whim. Also dude NIFTY was near its all time high in the past few days, it was bound to do course correction from there - you do not enter markets during an all time high! It would be better to wait till election poll results come out and then decide again. For eg if the polls would indicate that NDA would need an alliance to form a majority, then markets might fall again.
Found it very disconcerting that the โฎโฎโฎ of the first edition of HIMCC (HNLU International Competition Law Moot 2024) did not bother releasing the scores of memorials, speakers, researchers, etc., despite many participants wanting the same. The HNLU Raipur โฎโฎโฎ outright refused to share the scores, despite promising the same earlier, casually neglecting the fact that to ensure transparency, disclosure of scores is required. The โฎโฎโฎ really needs to be called out for this so that they would at least release the scores now and hope that for the next edition of the moot (if it ever happens) none of these arbitrary acts are repeated. Given the fact that they're allegedly organizing an international moot, they should at least be aware of the standards that are expected of them - extremely disappointed. Nevertheless, hoping LI would post this so that participants of the next edition of the moot would be aware of the same, but most importantly, it is important that we have a larger discussion on the mooting culture in our country and what sort of issues participants have faced given that we spend quite a huge chunk of money in travelling and other expenses which are most likely not reimbursed by the college. There have also been issues with tabulation in the recent past for other moots as well. Wonder if this is the kind of precedent that our mooting community will have to deal with in the future - we better address them!
If it's a PPO from a law firm then you can expect a higher salary but if it's chamber practice then it's always been that low or maybe even lower..
Sometimes in house jobs also pay good, sometimes it's 4-5LPA.
Honestly depends on a case to case basis
Can someone please let me what is the average package for a fresher law graduate from private college if I am opting for out of campus placement? I feel depressed listening to 3-4 lakhs package. Like I expect minimum around 8-10 lakh for this 5 years degree
I want a wfh/ hybrid work setup which is not possible in litigation hence the question.
Better him than that pan chewing clown.

2. I do all my academic work by typing on a laptop, just like how the vast majority of students these days would, with the only difference being that I have a piece of software (called a 'screen reader') that reads out everything I type and everything else on the screen to me as well.
Get a life.
