As a successful advocate you earn significantly much more than all judges. Even some not so well known advocates earn more than a few cr per year. Let’s not even talk about Salve types who earn a few 100 cr.
As a judge you retire by your early 60s and at best may join some committee after retirement/ arbitrate - which is not bad, but not half as good - if your goal is to become a doyen of the bar.
Most people will know the names of leading lawyers like Salve, Rohtagi, Jethmalani and so on. The list of these top guys will be more fresh in your mind than most of the top judges - even those who are the very best subjectively.
Also as a judge you are in the public eye and have to maintain a modest and somewhat distant public image. As a lawyer - you can live freely, flashily, whatever be your style. And you don’t really need to ever retire.
PS: it’s not about showing off, you gotta love those machines.

If you really want to stay in Kolkata, you can make that happen. The world has progressed a lot lately. I currently have a remote job which allows me to work on good legal matters with top notch clients, while enjoying the luxury and low cost of living at home. Won’t reveal much details, but I’ll say this…
If you’re still in college, you must be dazzled by the glamour of some firms based in Delhi/ Mumbai. It’s not your fault. They have specifically marketed themselves to build that image in young impressionable minds. But these are not the only options to have a good legal career.
There are more options out there than you are aware of. Seek, and you shall find.

To tackle this, I am reading ICSI material along with bare acts and law faculty books .
My question is --
As I dont hold valid certification of CS course and because I am non NLU grad, will this deter firms and companies from giving me matters related to commercial and corporate laws ?

It seems that this is it. This is the reality of Kolkata and it's future. I am very sad that I will have to eventually leave my city due to such poor conditions that are becoming worse with each passing year. I just wish somehow, someday, I get to know that Kolkata is back on it's feet so that I can return to my home peacefully.......
Even I am planning to settle in Gujrat once I get some foothold in the Corp Law domain!
I know what are the reasons of the lack of Corp Law Firms in Kolkata. I just wanted to check if I've got it wrong in any way. Well who cares, I myself is soon goin to switch in Delhi NCR as I've got T1 confirmations. The only unfortunate thing that makes my heart ache is the fact that I won't be able to make living if I stay in my home state and neither I see things changing any time soon!
PPOs - easily 17-20
LLM - possible.
Litigation - 1 offer received and rejected, wanting to do LLM - Around 15-20 others looking for litigation opportunities, some got.
UPSC - at least 3
Judiciary - 2-3
I honestly thought the stats would be a lot worse going into the year.
As students who study law in India, we aren't exactly pushed into the PIL space as keenly as foreign unis do, such as the Ivy Leagues, Oxbridge or perhaps other European universities in Geneva or Germany. What does an Indian student need to do to enter this space?
I am Bombay born even though I don’t reside there anymore and have concluded most of my internships there. I had things planned out, potential flat, flatmates everything.
Then Life decided to slap me in the face. Hehe
I’ll be joining a firm in Delhi but as someone w social anxiety there are certain issues that may seem trivial but they do bother me.
My entire circle is moving to Bombay but I want to give Delhi a fair chance.
1) Could ya’ll share your experiences moving to Delhi without your close knit circle. Alone in a new city.
2) My anxiety makes me overthink about finding new friends and flatmates. How was your experience.
Even if it’s not Delhi I would love to hear about your experiences of tackling and surviving in a new city whilst starting from scratch.
Any and all tips & tricks are welcome or fellow members of the social anxiety club, would love your two cents.

I understand this might be controversial, but it's crucial to accurately rate NLUs on a scale of Tier 1, 1.5, 2, 3, etc. Many students often assume that if NLIU is labeled as Tier 1 and so is NLSIU, they are both equally matched in terms of educational standards and outcomes. However, any informed individual with a fair understanding of the industry would easily tell you that this is not the case.
There are only four Tier 1 NLUs: NLSIU, NLUD, NUJS, and NALSAR.
NLIU is a Tier 1.5 NLUs, not as prestigious as Tier 1 but certainly better than Tier 2 (for example, RMLNLU). Other Tier 1.5 NLUs would include GNLU and NLUJ.
Apart from this, your advice is perfect.

Further, the said client is an AIF, they are the money, so they can bully founders around, again, making lawyers' job easier. Real challenge is to negotiate documentation from the founder side.
I was forthcoming about this with the said firm and I even took a 60% paycut just so that I could learn corp litigation. The Firm started piling on IAs, Pleading on me and the partner was super busy to review the said drafts, he would just discuss law points, but i did need guidance on the drafting aspect which he refused to give.
Was told by the HR person that I need to "buck up", I simply stated that it will take some time, within 15 days I will not be ready to handle a matter end to end, but they didnt listen and wanted me to lead 17 matters when having absolutely no experience. They gave me time of 5 days to get abreast with all the matters or else I would be fired.
I just walked out of the office never to come back. Refused to pick up their calls and moved back to corporate. Horrendous experience.
