Hello, I am going to intern at AZB's Delhi/Noida Office in the upcoming months. I request any person in the knowhow to provide insight into the recruitment policy of this office.

Have heard that getting a PPO here is not very feasible as no Dedicated HR exists and that you're at the mercy of a Senior Partner taking you in, if at all.

Furthermore, what is the quality of work given to interns here?

Any insight whatsoever will be helpful.

Brother even GLC has had Rhodes scholars, and even many other non NLUs and lower NLUs. Stop listening to these t1 nlu incles who take every individual success as the institutions success. The only thing which matters is you, if your application, work, lors, are at par with NLS NALSAR then you stand an equal chance.

Top colleges help you build contacts and gain immense exposure e.g. many tlc kids won't even know what Rhodes is while an NLS kids might start planning his cv for it from 2nd year itself due to awareness and support from seniors.

If you manage to beat their advantage then the college name doesn't matter for any scholarship.

It takes 2 internships with a team in most cases to get a ppo. They could care less about what your prior experience is if you do well enough. So pick what practice area you like, you can always make minor edits to your cv before placement day to reflect the diversity (or lack thereof) in your experience

Respectfully, the decision-makers being supposedly 'pro women' is mere lip service. All for generating click-baity headlines. We all know the recent open letter written to the Hon'ble CJI by one lady Magistrate/ District Judge (my memory is not aiding me) regarding the repercussions faced by the said Ld. Judge, particularly as a woman in judicial service. At SC & HC levels, the MAD level of connections and networking, required is probably not being undertaken by competent lady Advocates, who are probably expected to shoulder greater domestic responsibilities as opposed to men. Who knows, we may see a positive change in the picture in the coming years.

it’s bad but not if you choose your circle of wisely. be cautious around senior men. listen to warnings that women on campus give you. don’t befriend people like mg or sharmaji ka beta just because they are top rankers. there are many other seniors who will help you with what you need on campus! stay safe! it’s bad everywhere

Anyone who personally knows Rhodes Scholars also knows that the selection process isn't the best. While there are some very deserving people who have been selected, over the years many people have also made it on the weight of their minority/ 'difficult life' status (despite being very privileged in actuality). So no reason to celebrate this.

I’ve got an internship at SAM for November (2025 batch) — I know it’s after Day Zero so I really wanted to understand the chances of getting a PPO there.

I also understand that the work I do + how I fit into the team matters but I’d really appreciate all the checkboxes to tick at SAM’s Gen Corp

What are things I should do before the internship (to prep), during and then after? (Including how to start the PPO conversation).

Anyone who has interned in the team and can provide some insights into how the team functions and stuff you’ve worked on? And what’s the general environment like?

I studied there some 13 years ago, but Nalsar has always been a pretty awful place to be to learn to think carefully about political issues. All the animal rights stuff you say is true. I was a vegetarian who had to give it up in law school. But more than that- there was, in my day, poorly thought out political stuff all around. Womens rights was the most important thing, until the women complained of rape or assault- and then oh think of the poor man. Poverty was the most important thing, but lets do nothing to mend the relationship with Shamirpet Village, lets do nothing to set up a legal aid cell that works, lets do nothing to make sure our workers are treated with dignity. Instead of raising wages, lets raise charity when someone gets sick or gets in an accident. Theres a famine and we must save water- lets do water sports on holi. We care so damn much about disability rights, but we do nothing to treat mental illnesses on campus seriously- we dont get good doctors or psychiatrists and we dont have a proper way to respond to these crises. We care so much about sexual harassment when one professor says something mean to another, but we care not at all when professors continuously say awful stuff to students. We care a lot about speaking truth to power, but we dont care about making sure students dont plagiarise or cheat in their exams. Integrity is a value that only takes you this far. We care about womens rights and muslims rights- but caring about the rights of muslims and thinking about the benefits of a UCC is forbidden. We care about womens rights- but not when it comes to taking away single sex spaces. There is no consistency because consistency is politically inconvenient. You have to have a back bone and withstand some abuse if you stand by principles.

I honestly think a lot of that culture is built by how faculty use students for their own purposes. How they indoctrinate students into having their blindspots. All faculty- yes even your favorite one. the way the curriculum is designed in many courses including constitutional law, legal methods, law and poverty , is all so slanted its quite disturbing- you arent even learning important literature in that field anymore. I'm on the left generally and happy to go along, but I have never been more uncomfortable with all the equivocation and memory holing and obfuscation that the left does than when I was at NALSAR. I think the reason the atmosphere is so charged is because there is such a bias among faculty toward the left, and that leads to resentment and bias among mostly male students on the right, and that polarises the whole student community. People wont talk to each other or make friends outside their clique. Why go to university if you dont want to develop your thinking or meet people different than you?

Basically you have to choose teams and ignore all the mistakes your team makes. We're not there to be academics and think carefully, we're in the middle of nowhere and you need a tribe to survive, so pick a tribe and dont rock the boat.

This all has been happening for ages. This is how nalsar will always be. I suggest you spend very little time thinking about nalsars internal politics, focus on improving your mind and skills anyway you can, and get out into the world as much as possible.

Okay, I am an undergraduate law student in the UK (Indian citizen there), so this might seem a bit out-of-the-blue, but might still have some relevance, considering how many Indians (including law students/lawyers) want to work there for a while, at least. So without further ado, my heretical thought: despite benefitting from it myself, I think net migration to the UK is far too high, and needs to go down. The current number is 685000, and that's just crazy! Some of those immigrating are, from my personal experience, not-so-high-quality folks, either intellectually/academically, or personally, meaning this level of immigration is giving us a bad name overseas. At the same time, the current (UK) government's measures to cut immigration are not striking the balance between having it at sustainable levels while still maintaining this place as an attractive country for bright people, but instead tilting the balance towards making the UK unattractive.

India is too primitive when it comes to everything, and this within its ambit also includes the legal services industry. Not only are we overworked and underpaid a salary that cannot even reasonably cover someone’s monthly rent and other bills, but also there’s a uniform lack of support across firms.

In countries like UK, literally all JDs for Solicitor/Barrister positions come with a salary budget disclosure.

Apart from this, there are many firms in UK and related western countries that also sponsor LLMs for their staff.

The Bar rather than lower judiciary. And there’s a lot of bias and nepotism in the process. All sorts of other minorities - caste/ religion whatever - also never get to the appellate courts because of these biases.

I would highly dispute the claim that most SC judges have been pro women. Chandrachud especially has not been pro women.

I'm a recent fresher with a job offer as an associate trainee at a new independent practice by an ex-Tier 1 partner. I'm wondering if I should accept this position to gain experience, or keep searching for opportunities at other established firms? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Don't know which plnet you come from but let me spill some beans-

1) Coders get paid wayyyy more than that, the salary you quited are for backend roles or simple sales/marketing roles where mass recruitemtn takes place.

2) Even the salary you quoted are usually in WFH profile, so essentially, they are saving all the money they earn, unlike in law firms jobs which are compulsorily offline. SO, no matter how much you earn,you would be specing a good amount in rent,travellling, food etc.

I think you are right, my friends in Assam told me that Prof. VK was liked by them, it was only a faction of students which started a narrative due to their personal agenda. She told that he was solely responsible for campus development because before that their campus construction was almost at a stop also about faculties, the permanent recruitment was done during his tenure. I don't know exactly but I did not hear bad about Prof. VK from the students there.

I work with Baker. Based on my internal discussions here and with a couple of magic circle firms, there appears to be no substantial interest in opening India branches or operations in India. The big firms all work in-tandem, so unless one opens up shop in India the others won't.

All of them have India desks which ostensibly do the same work as what an India-branch would achieve. It's more cost effective to stick an Indian TC in the India desk and outsource routine advisory to a T2 law firm in India. Our bill for "local counsel coordination" is often 2-3x what the actual law firm charges, so clearly there is no scope on ground for any significant revenue generation.

Don't know about Other NLUs but Assam protest was initiated by some students with personal agendas, the demand for faculty and Campus was already being looked into by the VC and most of the demands were fulfilled within few weeks time. Prof. VK, had it under control and given the previous VCs NLU Assam had, I think the quality of facilities NLU Assam presently has is because of VK sir's initiatives and vision otherwise we would not have had a complete campus by 2017-2018 and increase in student activities. I don't think any NLU in its initial stages provided students with funds to go to international competitions and even conferences. It would not be correct to say that NLU Assam protest led to the then VC moving to Nagpur.

The university is charging as high fees as around 3.5 L yet it is not providing even the basic facilities due to LACK OF FUNDS. God knows where are the funds going!!!

We have a temporary library which is very small and hardly any effort is being made for the construction of the permanent library. The same goes for the hostels. The university is increasing its batch size but no new hostel is being constructed. First-years have to stay far away from the campus without even basic facilities such as regular electricity supply.

Apart from this, there is no facility for sports.

Though the university, being situated in the heat bursting of Nagpur, has started using ACs in hostels yet the ACs in the Academic Block are not operational.

The worst thing is that hardly any construction work is being done.

Despite complaints from the Student Body, the university is not reducing the fees.

Now only GOD can save us.

It's a dog eat dog world out there. Extra competitive students, hardly a sense of community. There's more diversity in terms of thoughts - a mix of right and left wing. But generally, from what I've seen, hardly 2-3 students in a class care about things.

If you are selected, you will be asked to get police verification done. Local police station(s) of the place(s) where you have resided during the past few years will have to submit a report to the selection board/commission stating that you are not involved in any crime or misdemeanor. True. CJI is happy to give sermons on how NLUs are elitist and how CLAT should be in Hindi, but is silent about an NLU where he is the Chancellor and a has a duty to respond to student concerns.

CJI is happy to give a woke judgement where he says men can get pregnant too, but is silent when law students raise concerns about gender rights and the VC faces sexual harassment allegations.

My Lord, request you to intervene here. If you are scared of upsetting the liberal political establishment, may I remind you that Mamata Banerjee has effectively left the INDIA Alliance. She hasn't been attending meetings and fought against the Congress and CPIM in Bengal. Her partymen also violently attacked Congress and CPIM workers. Also, her party does not exist outside Bengal and even in the Tripura elections lost its deposit on all seats. So what are you afraid of?
