We want LI to be one of the friendliest places on the internet, where lawyers and law students help each other with their career related queries and occasionally discuss other stuff that might affect their lives too. In other words:
1. Be kind, respectful and helpful to each other.
2. Be bona fide, truthful, genuine and curious.
3. Assume the best intention of others.
Therefore, in using the site, you must agree to do your best to uphold these community guidelines.
Note that what you find here is written and moderated by anonymous people on the internet.
Therefore everything you read here is very likely unverified, rumour, speculation and/or downright false.
In continuing to read anything here, you must therefore agree not to take anything you read here as factual and that you will exercise due caution, diligence and common sense before acting on any information you may come across here.
You also agree to report any inaccurate or malicious comments with the buttons. Moderators take action within 24 hours, as required and appropriate under law.
Our full terms and conditions apply too.
Do you solemnly agree to all of the above?
All I see on LI is law school students ready to ridicule anything and anyone. And I get it - a 19 year old kid is the cockiest in the room. Life REALLY HUMBLES you down a couple of years in the profession.
I just feel that associates A2 onwards have stopped considering this platform as even remotely a safe space. Trolling kar kar ke you kids will also miss out on genuine advice we can give.
How's IITD for PhD btw? A colleague did Socio PhD from IITB and I found the overall system better than NLUs.
1. PA takes it along with the HR. HR usually doesn't ask much, but may chime in at times- why law? why commercial law and the likes, depends on the HR.
2. Know your CV from top to bottom, no point studying anything and everything, but what you've written you should know. For instance, if you have listed "drafted NDAs" in your CV, you will have to know stuff about liquidated damages, receiving party-centric clauses, what are the usual exceptions in NDAs etc. If you have written about copyright and assignment agreements, what section of the Copyright Act, 1957 allows you to assign your copyright. All of that honestly, nothing too deep so don't worry.
3. Know why you want to do the practice area you have chosen. For instance, I said I liked M&A, and they asked me why M&A and I said it sounded cool and corporate-y, it made them laugh so brownie points for that!
- An expanded mental health department is obviously something which should have happened a while ago. If anything, they haven't gone far enough. Only two extra counsellors? The risk of waiting lists isn't taken away!
- This no year loss policy is just setting people up for failure! If you have failed courses, you clearly have to resit the appropriate assessment(s) in order to pass. You just aren't ready to cope with more difficult work, so allowing somebody in that position to progress like that to the next developmental year of study is just out of order! Alright, if it's one course in one year, no need to prevent progression from one developmental year to another. Just make them take the exams at the next available assessment opportunity. But permitting accumulation of failure just gives false hope and devalues the degree. This is not how the world's best universities operate; NLUD wasn't operating in wellbeing terms in any way like the world's best universities, and they aren't now either.
two of them were APD's juniors.
Could find quite a no. of Foreign LLM holders/NLU peeps who have returned back to MHC/Tribunal practice like Sricharan Rangarajan, M V Swaroop & the above
What is the genuine worth of Litigation in chennai, is there such a green pasture for commercial + Civil lit?
Imagine a scenario, Student A does his specialisation in environmental law in LLB and LLM, he has sufficient background knowledgeable for the last 5/6+ years. Student B does his specialisation in international law in LLB, then LLM in IPR and then wants to do a PhD in environment law. Now when the interview happens, because no matter what anyone says interviews are the last deal breakers, the board asks the students something outside of their research proposal based on basic concept related to environmental law. Who do you think will be able to tackle these unexpected bouncers ??
You are free to pursue research according to your interest. But remember the depth you need to go in for the interview will be more than the level of LLB-LLM. The board doesn't expect you to be an expert on the topic, but the basics need to be clear. If you can do that in 2-3 months, good for you. Other than passion, choose that field of study that you want to pursue even after PhD. Phd is a good opportunity to lay the foundation for what you want to pursue in academia and research for the next decade or lifetime. All the best.
- someone who is doing their PhD from IIT Delhi being a law student.
it is now possible for someone to reach 5th year even without passing a single module in the previous 8 semesters

3yr LLB from local college, 2 internships in district court, not good grades
should I give CLAT PG and go for PSU or LLM from NLU(later NET JRF and PhD)
or Do LLM from DU,BHU,TISS (CUET PG)(less fees) (later NET JRF and PhD)
Or Should I do internships and get a gig at a small Law Firm ? (will I even get it?)
It's not sustainable if you are not from Mumbai
The big companies go to them because of the name. Because they need to justify to the shareholders and BoD in case shit goes south and saying that we have a big firm on the matter lends credibility. But anything the T1s are able to offer, the boutiques will provide better.

Anyway, I know spots fill up really fast- do you guys think I have a shot at being shortlisted? Any way to maximise my chances? Anyone I can email?
If this is marvelous, heaven help you.
The backs might be a problem while fi ding jobs in india, however after I think it would be fine .
So, during my pursuit to find work abroad will it matter/affect?
is the maths section, proper quant maths, or data interpretation
if she goes to HC and claims neglect your husband will have to pay 10-25% of his salary (depending on her income and the cost of running the house)
best thing is to keep a record of all the money you spend on the house and maintainenance costs
But in terms of work, boutiques often have a more specialised team and know much more about the court they're knocking doors of. Specifically in white collar crimes-trials etc T1 can't catch up to the locals.
In arb, T1s tend to do better I think but work and performance is very subjective and depends so much team-to-team.
The moderation is extremely sluggish. And even if you put a high-quality post with a genuine query, you won't get any good responses because most of LI just consists of law students who don't have answers.
I do believe LI can be a good platform if they're willing to have more admins and if it can attract more associates. Otherwise, it's time lawyers move to reddit. There's an excellent subreddit that coders have made on reddit, I wish lawyers would do the same.
