I'm a 5th year law student, and I'm super stressed about placements, I don't come from a big shot law school which great placements, so I'm on my own to get a job. I'm interested in joining a law firm's corporate team/ or an MNC/ or anywhere they'll take me at this point with decent pay. I've done some good internships at T-1 places but I couldn't convert it into a call back/ppo. So my question is, 1) are there any firms that would take people directly for assessment internship before doing an internship first? and 2) are there any good MNCs that would hire freshers because from what I've researched, they don't so if there is some place like that please do help me out. Don't crib about not being from NLU. I am myself from a Tier 3 law college and I got three job offers right after college. A lot depends on your merit too. I got into a firm, a really good Senior Designate's chamber at SC and at a MNC. I went with the senior counsel because its beneath the dignity of a lawyer to get a job. Law is a noble profession for a reason. I pity those corporate babus who slave off at firms, don't be like them, bro. There is a thrill in practising law. The rush it gives you is something different. I suggest that you start practicing. You'll earn nothing now, but soon you'll do good. My mom began her journey as the second woman in the district to enroll, and she ultimately thrived. Believe in yourself and don't become a corporate lolyer. They are up to no good. Dont waste your degree by getting a job, practise.

Brother, I understand you are not an advocate. That's why you feel so bitter about us. We advocates have to work way too hard to not just perform inside a court but also to get briefs. Salaried employees like you will never understand what it takes to be an advocate in India. Also, getting a corporate job is not the hallmark of merit, especially when NLUs have different quotas based on caste, domicile, and NRI status. That's far from meritocracy, bro. We struggle at courts daily and argue on merits. We do a lot of good for society. Meanwhile you guys only help cronies.

Unless your parent is a senior designate, being a second generation lawyer provides no advantage. The only benefit I received from my mom was access to a Senior Advocate's chambers. I know various people who joined my chamber but were pathetic and later quit practise. Because of my merit alone, i could thrive. Once I became independent, my mom only provided me with a few cases, not many. I've faced just as many challenges as a first-generation lawyer. I pity those subservient corporate babus. They would never understand what exactly it feels like to practise law.

bhai its their choice, they just dont want to experience the real feel of practising law like yo do and they have chosen something else for themselves which is a deeply personal choice. They are not wasting their cognitive energy in doing something negative like pitying people they dont even know

Bro, I'm no Abhinav chandrachud or Singhvi's son. I'm far from privileged. I know sons and daughters of senior advocates who joined the profession and were so pathetic that they either quit or just assist their hotshot fathers and don't have any standing of their own. I have to struggle for briefs, although i would agree sometimes my mom and her colleagues refer me one or two cases for SC and tribunals since my mom practises at a HC but i don't make a lot from those briefs. I'm struggling as much as a first gen lawyer. Moreover, I am an outsider here at Delhi and i regularly see how native lawyers who are jaat/gujjars/punbajis get orders from judges because the bench here comprises their own kind only. I dont have the privilege of getting orders because of caste/ethnicity. You just dont understand my struggles.

Majority of people don't even get internships to an advocate's chamber let alone access. Most don't even get their first case till a few years. Stop being a whiny entitled brat. Moreover it's people like you that have pigeonholed the whole system and worthy young advocates have to now move to corporate cause your mom and dad's are handing you cases like candy even when you legal accumen and ethics were left in your senior advocate's chamber.

Lol just another law firm coolie getting triggered over a lawyer. Most law firms have backdoor entries and a lot of posts are filled by the relatives of employees. No one's crying about that. As a non-NLU corporate lawyer, I can tell you that the challenges we face are just as real. As someone who also intends to litigate, but is unable to do so because of financial constraints, it is really concerning to see such views. Understand that not everyone has the luxury of choosing a career based solely on passion and many of us have families depending on our financial stability.

So instead of looking down on others in the profession, perhaps you should consider that every legal path has its struggles and merits. Also, its frankly amusing to see your disdain for corporate lawyers when, in reality, we take pride in our work and the income it provides. We put in 14-hour days, and earn our pay through hard work, not by relying on handouts or connections. You’re in no position to raise a finger at our choices. You may excel in your field, but that doesn’t give you the right to demean others who contribute in equally significant ways.

Let’s not reduce our noble profession to divisive narratives and we should be lifting each other up instead. Everyone deserves respect for their choices - you chose litigation, we chose corporate law. That's the end of it.

Unlike you corporate coolies we don't have the privilege of getting a fixed income. It's us who don't have the safety net of fixed wage. We have to mend for ourselves and having connections can get you a good chamber and thats it from there you have to prove your mettle in court.

Insecure of what? Not working in real estate practise or M&A. What exactly is real estate practise? Briefing RERA lawyers? Lmao, If anything, law firms exist for the rich clients and you guys serve them.

People in every profession work hard, it's not limited to you law firm coolies. What matters is the output. You work for the rich and help them get richer. We advocate serve the society. Its we who stand between the common man and the police. We are the ones who help people in every step. Police don't even register an FIR easily if not for a lawyer. Its us who get people's justice by performing in courts. Not you guys. So we have every right to discard you people.

In short, you're not a real advocate brother, you don't practise in court and you work for a toxic law firm which adds no value to the lives of a common man. So don't masquerade as one.

It baffles me to see first, “no benefit” then “only benefit”, then one more benefit of “few cases”. Not that first gen individuals cannot succeed, but the shear lack of acknowledgement of privilege and inherent contradictions in the statement prove why there is a difference between second gen and first gen. Neither first gen students come with contacts with chambers and firms nor they have privilege of someone passing on his/her business to them. They need to work for very things you got on platter, especially those who are introverts and not good at networking. Nothing wrong with it as long as you are able to recognize your privilege before passing on your words of wisdom to others.

I wont get into courts vs corp but I need to say this, regardless of your parent's post, being a second generation lawyer helps and I don't mean to disregard your struggles or challenges you have faced by you don't sound like person who could call yourself a 'first generation lawyer' after saying things like 'my mom did law' and 'she gave me a few cases'

There's no lawyering to do in those corporate jobs and that's why most lawyers look down on them. Also, speak for yourself. I'm doing pretty well for myself financially. Instead of wasting your time here, go work and help those lala firms get richer, or they might lay you off.

Get into a small law office, ideally one where there's a lot of work and very few people to handle it. Thats where you will get the much needed experience to qualify for corporate firm jobs. I myself joined a small lawyer's office, learnt the ropes and then after 2 years applied to join a corporate firm, cleared the test and was hired.
