We want LI to be one of the friendliest places on the internet, where lawyers and law students help each other with their career related queries and occasionally discuss other stuff that might affect their lives too. In other words:
1. Be kind, respectful and helpful to each other.
2. Be bona fide, truthful, genuine and curious.
3. Assume the best intention of others.

This level of transparency and candidness should be appreciated. I am unable to understand why some people are bemoaning frank behaviour and trying to instigate others to make an issue out of this.
This is fairly straightforward. It comes down to genetics and mindset. The average South Indian is diligent, hardworking, cultured and exposed to the anima of his birth and civilisation from his youth. This results in a centered individual who is focused on the future, eschews ostentation, and, uses the lessons from his cultural heritage to propel himself forward. They are frequently publicity shy and prefer to work in the background. As long as they continue getting paid and getting ahead, they don't really care about plaudits and pulpits.
The average North Indian on the other hand is a bit of country bumpkin. Even post independence, civilisation was slow to reach the North Indian hinterlands and their entire ethos seems steeped in lack of self-preservation and a true baniya mentality. The North Indian slavishly imitates the West and what is trending and hence has lost himself in the miasma of the now-culture and thus, does not have the benefit of heritage to centre himself. For this reason, the average North Indian in college is a bit of a blockhead/village dunce type of fellow. Party/Shawri/Daru/Sutta/Chukka/Bandi are enough for him and that is what makes him happy.
Far from me to say what is right and wrong, since I personally disdain such childish notions of right/wrong and morality. Hope this perspective helps. Thanks.
I have rejected my parents plans for arranged marriages, as I found most guys to be unsupportive, patriarchal and found the whole process as a headache. Even after trying hard there has not been a spark.
I am not deemed conventionally attractive, and have never been asked out by a single guy throughout my life. Most of my girl friends get hit on by men - they go for dates, get lunches, compliments from men.
But I have never got any of these even though my friends who looked even bad got dates.
Signed up for Bumble and Tinder only to find that most men are creeps. I felt like calling the cops.
Registered on a matrimonial website - have seen some guys, none match my standards (which are very reasonable)
Office colleagues and friends circles are pretty much useless as most men here are married with kids. And other guys in my age groups are looking for younger women.
The men I found attractive (character) , felt a spark, I asked them out, proposed to them only to find out that they didn't reciprocate the same feelings. I didn't just gave hints - I have asked them out on a date, proposed to them myself to find that they were also wasting my time and playing games.
Over the past few months, I have been feeling lonely and left out by my friends and family.
My standards were not that high, I deserve reasonably smart guys with decent character because I am doing that well for myself. Caste/Income/Position is not an issue. I am an approachable person, I have a strong freinds circle and family
Am I too old to find love, start a family?
Where are the men? Where should I find them? Especially at my age and life situation?
Please don't recommend matrimonial websites and dating sites.
Why I was never asked out? Proposed to?
Am I at fault?
At this point I genuinely crave for someone to share my life with. I am not doing this because of social pressures. Freinds, family has given up on me.
Kids are talking about sex life, I haven't had my first date/kiss at the age of 38. Generational gap is astonishing.

However, you missed the guy's point completely. Did he, by any chance, compare the salary of JAG Officers in non- peace areas with the salaries of Judicial officers?
He is merely saying that even if you compare the salary/perks of JAG officers in peace areas with the salaries of judges posted in similar areas, that would turn out to be much higher. Perhaps, you should read the TOI article for your reference which doesn't even make a mention of non-peace areas/disputed areas while making a comparison of sorts between the defence and All India Services.
I'm facing a critical dilemma and was hoping to get some help from this lovely community. I have made it to the three year LLB program at NLS this year. I've been trying to figure out on whether going to law school would be a good investment or not. I've come across a common sentiment that 5 year LLB students are preferred over the 3 year LLB ones; Is it a good idea, then to pursue law at NLS, given that both these programs are not equally positioned with respect to getting opportunities? What has the experience been like for the pioneer batch? Would love to hear more on that. In addition to the aforementioned things, I would also like to mention that I will be 26 when I graduate from NLS. Is age a factor in recruitment? Will recruiters hold my age against me? Just hoping to gain some insights to make an informed and well reasoned decision. Would appreciate any help I can get from this community!
Thanks in advance!
You should be presentable, that is all that matters.
Your work should speak for you.
Everything else is a facade.

It's immensely difficult to get ones hand on the essays, no one seems to be willing to share them for some reason. When essays for ivy league schools are available so easily on public forums but aditya birla scholarship essays are guarded like the Kohinoor for some reason.
I am an aspiring law student who just gave clat and other entrances.

If the south as NALSAR and NLS, north has NLUD and NUJS.
Like if u think about engineering, most of the good iits like iitm and nits like nit trichy, nit warangal, nit surathkal, nit calicut are in the south.
But in law most of the t1 nlus are in the north such as nlud, nujs, gnlu, nluj, etc.
I'm a 2022 graduate from IP University. I've been working full time as in house counsel with startups since 2021 (and freelanced a bit with a few companies here and there before that). I do have dispute resolution experience in the form of internships (mostly criminal, though). I'm happy working in house but I want to get more Corporate Dispute Resolution experience as I've discovered I really enjoy that. Is there anyone here who could provide some recommendations or possibly refer me if your firm/office is hiring?
I don't mean to sound privileged but I would appreciate a nice compensation and if I could continue working in my private capacity with the startups.
"We fail to understand as to how the theft could be said to be in any way a deficiency in service by the Railways. If the passenger is not able to protect his own belongings, the Railways cannot be held responsible."
While I understand the first part probably, what does the second part signify?! The money was stolen, and the court admits it to be "Theft", a criminal offence under the IPC. The court has literally set a national precedent with this one line of ambiguous reasoning. So it is the duty of a person to protect their belongings, when a thief committed theft on him?
Pertinent- the claimant TIED a BELT which held the money. Why is the victim being burdened here?
Also, will this set a precedent in all theft cases from government/ otherwise premises, saying that it was the victim' burden to secure their belongings.
(This wont affect criminal cases, yes, cuz the judgement was in the consumer cases realm, but such a precedent could lead to an interpretation otherwise)
Thoughts?
That is the reason sir.
LV and Gucci and too mainstream and uncool now
R, even courts publish names of rapists/ molestors in orders even in the first few hearings. It is wrong to publish the VICTIMS name, not this monster lawyer
Hmmm
A) It became more unpredictable
B) The high cut off demands brushing your Quant thoroughly :)

If you are becoming a lawyer to become rich.. Boy do I have news for you. Do not become a lawyer for the money. You aren't gonna be making any real money. Its fake news that lawyers make money. Its a by product, that too very little.
This, dear NALSAR, is why you will remain number 3.

2. You're not trolling and would like guidance on cultivating a refined personal goods collection.
For the latter:
1. Watch - no harm in starting off with an Apple Watch in your first year. Hold off on "serious watches" till you become an SA. Then you can go for a Grand Seiko. Don't be a n00b and buy some gaudy crap like Rado. Once your making big bucks, then an Omega Speedmaster. PA on the verge of Partnership can consider a dignified, entry level Rolex like the Explorer or the Datejust. This is where I am personally in my journey, ultimate goals are obviously not in my reach yet - Royal Oak/Nautilus/Vacheron.
2. Clothing - start off by buying Raymond fabric, stitched by an experienced master tailor. As you go up the ladder, improve the quality of fabric. It's not about gaudy brands - so no ready to wear flash.
3. Car - personally this is a purely functional choice, I drive a Creta now which costs nothing compared to the rest of my lifestyle.
4. Travel - I am still a business class guy, though I could afford First, I don't see much value addition there.
5. Stationery - fountain pens, start with a Lamy and keep going up as you go up the ranks.
6. women/men: I'm straight, I date women my age, rarely colleagues. Now that I'm senior at the firm, I've also explored dating older women. In case you're, LGBTQI+, different benchmarks may apply.
Good luck, friend.
Assuming money is the most important factor, both US universities are top notch. M7 are the best business schools in the world. That being said whichever gives you a scholarship should be the go to school because recruiting and alumni reach are identical except in a few niches.
In case you don't get a scholarship -
Choose Booth if you want to work in finance.
If you want to work in non-finance industry then go for Yale as it has a higher perceived value outside US.
Graduating with crores of debt puts serious constraints on your ability to explore and experiment. So your risk appetite will be very limited unless you pay off that debt.
If you are planning to settle down in India then a foreign MBA is of little use except for the prestige. Prestige doesn't get you a higher pay or quicker promotions. Your manager will most likely be an IIM graduate. Plus that debt will be very hard to pay off with and Indian salary and might throw off your life completely.
If you don't want to take on debt but still want a competitive international compensation (USD 100K+), target IIMA. Keep in mind that such roles are scarce (<10) and you'll be placed in a non-democratic country (UAE; Hong Kong, which I know is not a country; and Singapore).
Also, please keep in mind that working in USA as an Indian is tricky. You're at the mercy of H1B lottery. Companies like Wipro and Infosys fill out multiple sponsorships for the same candidate in every lottery. As far as green card (permanent residence) is concerned, the waitlist for Indians had gone beyond 15 years last time I checked.
Lastly if you're wealthy enough, don't pay heed to this comment.
A bonus point: be in the good books of the teacher by being active in the class and ofc reading before the class. Ask doubts during the breaks or after class as well. In this way, they will personally notice you. If your prof has a good impression about u, u will prolly get 0.5-1 mark extra which actually becomes important!
Make good friends with toppers from senior batches then u will get a proper guidance as well.
Don't look to perform in all forms of co-curricular activities (maybe choose 1 or max 2) and stay away from extra-curricular shits!
Shouts at lawmakers as soon as shits go wrong
For the time being, focus on learning the ropes quickly and making your SAs and PAs dispensable.
Be on time, and appear ready to work.
Btw, I wear a FastTrack.
PS: Some hints would be appreciated mod
I read somewhere that CAM has a rotational policy where you can move within the firm.
Does this still hold true as of 2023?
