I mean I totally get you, but it was meant to be a comparative analysis on how one's education has a huge role to play in deciding how he'll perform.

Who am I kidding, I didn't score as much as you did in my first attempt. That's a good rank to start with, if possible avoid these private colleges and get an okayish college to attempt again.

I don't think there would be anything "disruptive" per se. As other folks have pointed out, it would be more of a gradual influx of foreign law firms. The only real application this notification brings is that foreign law firms can basically set up their branch and hire Indian people to work on their already existing clientele. In my honest opinion, not allowing them to work on Indian matters doesn't change much as long as foreign firms are keen to exploit the cheaper billable rates offered to Indian associates for their foreign work.

For anything to really change, there has to be consensus that there is a real potential in the Indian legal talent among leading law firms.

What could change:

1. More opportunities for corporate lawyers in all their respective domains.

2. More opportunities = more intake of law graduates.

3. I speculate that the income increase would only be offered by a few select foreign firms that are willing to pay the big bucks to attract the cream of the crop of law graduates, Indian law firms might follow suit depending on the availability of the desired law graduates.

Choose an option that won't make you regret even if you fail to do better in your next attempt. I speculate that you might've been lucky in this attempt because the only 2 sections that requires genuine practice came out excessively difficult i.e. GK & Quants, which diluted the efforts of those preparing for a long time. You can't be too sure that next year you'll get a rank under 500 (that's what you've to aim for even if you want to switch from NUALS). Making a shift for HNLU/MNLU/RMNLU would make zero sense if you're admitted to NUALS.

And trust me, giving a paper as a dropper is not the same as giving it as a fresher.

CR is difficult for everyone. Even the best faculty conforms to the principle that one cannot be 100% accurate in CR.

I can figure that you are also not good at CR since your reasoning is somewhat flawed hehe. People from top international schools struggling to score more than 80% doesn't prove my point that "they perform better" wrong; what if students from less equipped schools score even less than that?

What I meant to say is that it's competitively easier for them to ace. It doesn't matter if their accuracy is 10%, if that 10% gets them a good rank, then that's all that matters.

I think b, it is believed that time seems to go by more quickly when someone is in their 40s, thus causing a panic because you failed to do all those things you once thought you would've already done by your current age and there isn't enough time left to do them all.

It is still a long way from the liberalisation of the Indian legal sector, but it's definitely a step in a positive direction. This could genuinely open so many opportunities for corporate lawyers. UK & US firms would most probably expand to India for doing their work at cheaper rates, this could also mean that the demand for international law experts are bound to increase. As far as I can infer, they will be allowed to practice on transactional or corporate work such as joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions, intellectual property matters, drafting of contracts, and other related matters, while excluding litigious matters.

What do law firm peeps think of this?

The thing about CLAT is that it's a skill-based examination whereas JEE is an aptitude-based examination.

Suppose we ask someone from a government school to prepare for CLAT for a whole year and attempt it, chances are that he'll probably fail. But if we ask someone from one of the best English medium schools to prepare for it in two months, he would probably crack a T-2 at least.

But if you ask both of them to study for JEE, chances are that the former would perform better given the extra time. That's because JEE is a purely aptitude-based examination where skill has a negligent role to play.

As someone from a PCM background who has given CLAT thrice, I'd say that for me CLAT came out to be a tougher examination, but that's because I've never really worked on my reading. For a person who has been an avid reader, it might have been a cake walk for him.

The answer is quite simple, it depends on person to person. But yeah, objectively, JEE seems to be much more competitive.

It has literally been explained in the article.

It was a subscription based model that could make all the ott content available at a cheaper rate which the customer paid.

He was running no torrent circuit, it was a proper streaming set-up. I don't know of any platforms that could stream all the movies and tv series' in my TV, that service itself is quite valuable.

As someone who might give CLAT again after already being a dropper, I'll suggest you go for it. It doesn't matter even if you graduate in 2030, the only thing that will truly matter is your financial situation.

You'll encounter a lot of people saying take only the top 3 or top 5, honestly, they're too privileged to empathise with your situation. With unemployment on the rise and a projected recession on the way, I don't think that it's a smart choice to be in an institution where a T-1 placement is unheard of. Think for yourself, be pragmatic, and don't shy away from opportunities.

Although it might seem conflicting, CLAT is a shitty exam, and you can't really keep all your eggs in one basket. Try maintaining your grades as best as you can since there is no saying that you'll get a good rank. Considering your mental state has seen better days, don't take on too much pressure, have a clear mindset, and make a list of alternatives that you could do after your degree in case you don't do well in CLAT.

Lastly, as a fellow exam-taker, I'm here to resolve any future queries you might have.

Even if the BJP lost all the NE seats, it would've still been the prime contender for the 2024 LS elections. I wouldn't consider NE elections to be minor in any respect, but the dynamics of an election change drastically in LS elections as opposed to VS elections. No, I don't think there is any hope for RG; maybe 2029 if we're being optimistic.

If the passing percentage of foundation is 28%, it doesn't even come close to CLAT.

I'm surprised how everyone thinks that Foundation is difficult, the academics might be but cracking it is a piece of cake against CLAT which has a 2.5% passing rate that too for a T-3 NLU (its 0.75% for T-1).

Such an irony that its a tight slap to other NLUs and their loudmouth students on LI who are claiming that they are national institutions and not state institutions because apparently "state government of Karnataka gave 24 crores to NLSIU".

Although I wasn't able to find the source of the news, if it is true, it is among the highest budgets allocated.

I've researched about the budgets of different NLUs and surprisingly found some institutions being very open about it, while others being excessively secretive about it.
Here are some findings:

NLUD 2022 (10.5 crores- Revised ;14 crores- Estimated) (Most well-maintained records)

I wasn't able to find any data for GNLU and RMNLU. And I've noticed a sharp decline in the data after COVID; budgets after 2020 were hard to find.

To be honest, the funds from the government are not the sole representation of its economic strength. The fee, batch sizes, number of programmes offered, and allocation of funds also play a major role; some NLUs also rely on interest from fixed deposits. Some NLUs are hugely in surplus, while others are in deficit.

In short, YES!

Although there are some requisites that you need to satisfy before making the decision, you should be genuinely interested in the course apart from all the hype. Even if it's the most dead thing in the world, if you're passionate about it, you should follow it, so try to see past the hype.

NLIU is by far a better institution to study at; if you believe that BSc LLB is not as good as BA LLB, you may be mistaken, as GNLU also offers BCom LLB, BBA LLB, BSW LLB, and BSc LLB, and it doesn't have any problems placing its batch despite the diverse courses offered.

At the end of the day, your interest in the subject is paramount, and there is no substitute for it.

As someone who has thoroughly researched about the course, I think that it's a bit overrated.

There are 13 All-India unreserved seats, other 47 seats are reserved in this course. This particular batch matrix drastically decreases the quality, other than that it's a decent course since NLIU has had a background in specialised LLM in cybersecurity. If any NLU is qualified enough to start this course it is NLIU, they even have Rajiv Gandhi National Cyber Law Centre.

I placed it above B.A. LL.B. in NLIU as I had conviction in myself that I'll do good regardless of my batch and an inherent interest in the subjects concerned, if you're sceptical about the prospects then B.A. LL.B. in NLIU would be a safer bet. Goodluck!

Do you really think that it is worth sacrificing a year (making you 20) + 3 lakhs that you would've already invested for taking an exam having a passing rate of about 0.004%?

Although, I get the feeling that you might have a reservation of some kind from the tone of your query (speculative). Supposing that you're having OBC reservation, you would require a rank of under 500 which is quite doable if you ask me (increasing your passing rate by 735%~0.029). If you're from any other category then it gets even better i.e. EWS, SC, ST, PwD, etc. (yes, there are more).

All in all, you can definitely consider if you have a reservation of some sort and believe that you have got the potential of cracking a better NLU.

A totally valid point, but what difference would it make if you rather use a side account to infiltrate all your biases and opinions like us i.e. Chichi Ban, Ashlesha, Hayabusa wala, etc.? A moderator actively being on the left side of the spectrum gives a wrong impression to the userbase, it becomes more of a 'Chichi Ban vs. Legally India' rather than 2 individuals debating about something.

In the past couple of weeks, I've noticed a distinct change in moderation.
I don't know if it's the controversial topics popping up that made me feel this or not, but LI has definitely been more active in sharing what 'they' believe is true which was not the case earlier.
For me, moderation was about censoring the derogatory, factually incorrect, and targeting nature of comments rather than censoring comments which fall on the other end of the spectrum of what mods believe to be true/un-woke. There are incidents where comments have been censored because they MIGHT offend someone, imo it's a vague reason for oppressing an opinion.
Should moderation be allowed to actively participate in sharing of opinions?
I personally do not think that's fair considering it is the regulating authority, it should be unbiased towards everyone despite the person's ideology not being in consonance with LI's ideology.
To which LI might argue that they allow every comment which is logically sound and all, no. As long as an authority is displaying its bias, it is no longer an unbiased medium to share opinions. I'll cite the threads to support my argument.

From what I've read, It purely depends on a firm-to-firm basis whether it wants to bill hourly or resort to alternative billings. About 60% of clients in CAM & Spice Rought Legal are billed hourly. Still, the distribution of clients could vary drastically depending on its practice area i.e. Gen Corp could be billing 95% of its clients hourly while the same firm's M&A could be using alternative payment methods entirely.

And yes, hourly billing has been a common practice for a long time. Some firms have also developed their in-house software to keep track of the hours put in and maintain transparency with their clients.

You should take the job BUT there is a caveat.

Is it even worth it? Sacrificing one of the most healthy years of your life on an exam that you barely have a shot at cracking? Kudos to you if you manage to do so, but a law firm job would be much safer and atleast it makes you settled in life.

Don't be dissuaded by these trolls lmao, even replying to them is a huge waste of time (been there, done that).

1. Things have been shaky ngl. (There have been 2 incidents of protests against admin this year itself)

2. HNLU seems a notch above in corporate placements, everything else is more or less the same.

3. The students claim that it's improving but only time will tell.

4. Yeah, placements are growing each year but you should be mindful of the batch size of 180 students while accessing the number of students placed.

5. I Can't answer this one with credible sources but I've heard that the overall crowd is mixed (most of them being diligent).

6. Yes, if you're from a metro city then obviously you would feel a bit disconnected but the university manages to provide all the essentials from a physician, stationary and mental counseling to transportation to the city.

7. I don't think so. T-1 NLU does not have a definitive meaning, but let's assume that it's an NLU that manages to place 90% of its batch comfortably. For that to happen, HNLU has to focus on: a) The student intake quality (which is in decline for the past few years due to domicile cut-off decreasing year by year.)

b) The faculty (GNLU also has a similar scenario, but despite that, it manages to place most of its students, which suggests that even with a weaker pool of students as compared to other T-1 NLUs it performs similarly or even better in some cases)

And lastly, I'll also be joining HNLU so we might as well catch up sometime!

There are candidates who crack top 3 NLUs while being in 11th and then there are candidates that manage get a T-3 NLU with a drop year.You can't say that one is better than the other with surety, but you can definitely infer that one has more aptitude to crack the exam than the other. I've let it sink in and now I'm quite optimistic about the prospects HNLU could offer if I'm serious enough. After evaluating and doing due research, I've came to the conclusion that it isn't really worth re-attempting and sacrificing an year. There is almost nothing that can be done in a T-1 NLU and cannot be done in HNLU, I've even stalked profiles of people who cracked HNLU last year and they've been doing good for themselves, can't really differentiate them from NLUJ 1st years.

The only thing is that you've to walk that extra half mile to grab opportunities, and if doing that saves me an year then so be it.

I would ultimately be loosing 16 lakhs or more if I switch to another T-1 college while having the potential to crack the same job at HNLU. So yeah, initially it is not the best feeling to be in HNLU but I think it will surely get the job done ;)

That's quite commendable, but tbh I feel things were in favour of the already admitted NLU students this time since the GK was not 'ratta marne wala GK' at all, majorly it was about the awareness of the surroundings GK + You guys barely had a 6 months session as opposed to an year long gap that makes it far less compelling to work for + 2 DIs of quants were nearly undoable due to fallacies in question formatting (negating the efforts of those who practiced quants daily for speedy calculations). So yeah, for someone who has a strong grasp of legal knowledge and has a decently good speed, it is a golden paper.

Similar question with a few modulations, I'm getting HNLU this year.

Given CLAT in 11th, got a rank good enough for ILNU, Jindal and all the respective private institutes.

Gave CLAT in 12th with much more pressure and preparation, got a better rank but still not good enough for a T-3 NLU (succumbed to the pressure indeed).

Gave CLAT after rigorously grinding for 6 months, getting in but not really satisfied internally. Currently, CLAT is a skill based examination rather than being a knowledge based one like NEET or JEE, your hardwork won't necessarily translate into a better result that's for sure.

I genuinely think that I am just as good as any of the candidates getting in T-1 NLUs, it's just that it wasn't my day. Maybe with a decent NLU in pocket and no pressure, I could crack one of the T-1 NLUs.

Would you recommend doing that or should I just go all in with my current academic curriculum? Because at the end of the day if I'm getting placed in a T-1 firm with my current NLU it's the same, isn't it? Would love to hear what you guys think! 💫

You've a more than decent chance of top 3 according to CL Predictions. On a bad day it's top 5, so either ways it's a T1.

Unfortunately I managed to get about 75 marks hehe, HNLU it is, so I would say you've performed way better than the other 99% of candidates who appeared for it. Pack your bags!
