Your parents may be right. In the long run, this law rat-race is very difficult. Securing a top rank is very difficult and only a remote possibility. I would say you should entertain this thought if you just started preparing and were not happy with your prep. But you have been preparing for long, so it may not be possible for you to dramatically improve your rank. The disappointment next year will be 10 times worse.
I don't mean to discourage you. Sometimes it's worth looking at Plan B instead of attempting Plan A again.

2nd - with prep
3rd - just for fun
And, I scored the best in the 3rd. Reason being - I was carefree, it didn't matter whether I could get in or not since I was already in college. Pressure plays an insane role in the exam.
Take a college and prepare for the exam paralelly.
I had Law School batchmates who were in Tier 2/3 NLUs for a year before joining NLS.
Given CLAT in 11th, got a rank good enough for ILNU, Jindal and all the respective private institutes.
Gave CLAT in 12th with much more pressure and preparation, got a better rank but still not good enough for a T-3 NLU (succumbed to the pressure indeed).
Gave CLAT after rigorously grinding for 6 months, getting in but not really satisfied internally. Currently, CLAT is a skill based examination rather than being a knowledge based one like NEET or JEE, your hardwork won't necessarily translate into a better result that's for sure.
I genuinely think that I am just as good as any of the candidates getting in T-1 NLUs, it's just that it wasn't my day. Maybe with a decent NLU in pocket and no pressure, I could crack one of the T-1 NLUs.
Would you recommend doing that or should I just go all in with my current academic curriculum? Because at the end of the day if I'm getting placed in a T-1 firm with my current NLU it's the same, isn't it? Would love to hear what you guys think! 💫

I gave clat in june last year (while in class 12th) without prep and got a rank of 13XX. Thought I could do better with prep, but I panicked on the day of the exam and I've got a rank of 57X. I'm pretty sure I'll be allotted HNLU and until yesterday I was in the same dilemma you are in right now. I've decided to give clat again. It feels good to know I'll have a batchmate who'll also be preparing for clat again :-)
I've let it sink in and now I'm quite optimistic about the prospects HNLU could offer if I'm serious enough. After evaluating and doing due research, I've came to the conclusion that it isn't really worth re-attempting and sacrificing an year. There is almost nothing that can be done in a T-1 NLU and cannot be done in HNLU, I've even stalked profiles of people who cracked HNLU last year and they've been doing good for themselves, can't really differentiate them from NLUJ 1st years.
The only thing is that you've to walk that extra half mile to grab opportunities, and if doing that saves me an year then so be it.
I would ultimately be loosing 16 lakhs or more if I switch to another T-1 college while having the potential to crack the same job at HNLU. So yeah, initially it is not the best feeling to be in HNLU but I think it will surely get the job done ;)
