Any comments from Kians for keeping Legally India alive?
Many of Corporate lawyers would be happy this platform alive so that our juniors can also see how this profession evolved.
1. General Corporate - Shift anytime to anywhere. That too with high salaries. The whole world is open.
2. Tax - No need to say. FMCG, Manufacturing companies would take you. Reasonable pay.
3. Labour and Employment - you could lateral, but with a large pay cut. Some very large companies would need you. But the pay wouldn't match firms.
4. Litigation - but you won't do any real work in house. You would be just passive strategist and case manager.
Not so much opportunities, but could still make it -
5. Financial Regulatory (not cap marks) - Brokers, Fund Houses would like to keep you.
6. Banking & Finance, Projects- could lateral.
Future?
6. IP/TMT - people in these practice areas would find more in house opportunities once Data Protection Law is passed.
Worst for any in House lateraling (almost impossible to go in house)
7. Competition/Anti Trust - difficult to be hired in house. Unless in some exceptions like one lawyer for a super large conglomerate. Nobody really wants you.
8. Funds - difficult to make a move.

Audi A6 - 1 lac emi 12 lac pa
Driver Salary - 3 lacs pa.
Business clas ticket for self and spouse - 10 lacs
That’s around a crore without taking into account any other expense and taxes.
As for JNU and TISS, law is closer to social sciences and humanities? If lawyers display the same amount of ignorance in these fields as people from IIT, that would be a bad thing. These are whole fields of study and they are not called emotionalism. They are also knowledge relevant to our work. IIT people learn to program and do maths. We have nothing in common with them except for a very competitive exam.
Thoda padh le. Reasoned criticism isn't hate. No need to get so emotional. If you work there then sorry your feelings were hurt but it is what it is.
Let's see how it works.
Will come back here after 2 or 2.5 years to let you all know what is the status.
If i get a job i will post my LinkedIn id here.

Also speaking of fiascos, are we gonna forget the whole Amazon thing? (Dear Moderator, this is a PUBLIC litigation and you cannot moderate this, https://www.businessinsider.in/business/ecommerce/news/the-amazon-bribery-case-in-india-is-getting-murkier-and-the-lack-of-transparency-is-not-helping/articleshow/86553927.cms)
This strategy follows what Sun Tzu said, "Supreme Excellence consists of breaking the enemy's resistance without fighting"
1. Aim to increase the conviction rate from the current 15% to 90%.
2. Expand the number of graduates in forensic science to 33,000 per year from 2026 onwards.
3. Forensic analysis will be mandatory for all crimes with a punishment of > 7 years with a new law.
Watch the video clip here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6KrUZFTZrpU.
NFSU will change the legal landscape in India, and with the above one can only imagine the kind of funding and support the university will be provided by the Government. NFSU already has the INI status and reports prepared by the university are admissible in the courts as evidence (the only educational institution in the country to be given that privilege).

Now with this hike I'm literally depressed because I see my.peers.who are 100 times dumber than me with earn 3 lakh extra.. I cannnot live with it.. I don't see any hope of other firms increasing the pay
No idea from where you're getting your 5-ish LPA from.
I'm 44 years old. I plan to attempt nlsui. I am not from law background. I have a career in IT in namma Bengaluru....is it good idea??? Also I have no degree from any law school so how long would it take me to graduate????

Gen Z seems to like it while older generations don't. For some reason, it looks a bit Barbie-like to me.
Sibal's sons are already very established Seniors, MR has a son, DrAMS has a son - you get the gist
There may be more break-ins like GS from NLS (not sure if he's also someone's son?) but it would be a bit delusional to think that the "legacy" based structures are going to be shaken up substantially in the next 10 years - you simply aren't aware of how things work in Delhi if you think otherwise

How is vritti law, anyone who is currently working there please through some insights into pay scale, quality of work please?
I feel for this person, and am so sorry to see the state of firms even now. Would like to also ask for some advice regarding the same.
- X is a big problem in India (e.g. urinating in the streets)
- It’s fantastic that Modiji is enacting a law to address the problem (e.g. one road one toilet)
- In our view, the govt can consider adding a clause to the law which does Y (e.g. expand the definition of road to include bylanes)
- Let us hope that X will soon be a thing of the past (e.g. Stinky Bharat becomes Sugandh Bharat)
In contrast, a CPR article will have more depth and address structural causes of the problem, along with hard hitting criticism.
There can be two ways in which to do this. One is to reduce the number of university seats, which Singapore does. The other is to have a bar exam with a low pass percentage, which certain European countries do.
So what then happens to the thousands of students who cannot qualify as lawyers? Well, they should be asked to study STEM courses, business management courses or vocational courses instead, like computer hardware repair, tailoring, cooking, hotel receptionist and air hostess training etc.
1. Won't Rajiv's equity share be diluted? Because after Rajiv (unlike in SAM/CAM) there is no tight family control. Advait is just a single person, that too without any significant experience.
Won't the other partners run away if the same equity is given to one person in this manner.
2. If Rajiv's equity is vested in Advait. How would at a later point of time - the same share can go to Rajiv's kids?
Also, Luthra as a firm surviving is a big deal. Many expected the firm to go down.
Is Kian really seeing this website? Why is he not telling anything.
Instead of an employment contract. Ask your employer to hire you as a retainer or contractor. It's just one or two lines in a contract. Legally, most law firm Associates are not eligible for bar license in india - they just make one change. They call thier employment contract a Retainership Agreement. That's all.
2. Do something great with your career, human mind works best in the long run when it is secure
P.S.- This year, Argus and Trilegal have given a lot more offers to SLSP, than their usual of 2-3 offers to T1 NLUs.
In your case, by the time you start earning 1 crore a year (i am assuming you don't earn anywhere near that amount right now) the minimum would have increased by atleast 1 crore more because INFLATION🤷. So then you would need atleast 2 crore to sustain this life
JGLS will be bigger and better than all SLS campuses combined.
38 offers to 25 students out of a pool of 47 and 12 or 13 PPOs. Total batch size of 2024 batch is at around 120.
All tier 1 firms were there. luthra gave zero offers and saraf gave only one. I think we did decent, seeing the current market.
No foreign placement.
Since it will be my fourth year internship, I'll be trying for a PPO with the team, any inputs regarding that? How's the culture and workload for new associates? The older threads on this were quite critical
I stand by Vidhi.
• Look out for what you eat, your food matters a lot when you're trying to lose weight. Go in little calorie deficient (Google the term), try intermittent fasting, eat less refined carbs, more proteins (not more than 70-80g if you don't workout a lot), eat more fibres, veggies and fruits too.
• working late we all crave for snacks, so try keeping some healthy snacks. Roasted grams and air fried chickpeas are my go to options .
• Try saying no to Junk Foods, a lot of time while working I'm offered snacks most of them junks, but I try to say no.
• Do strength training 4-5 days a week.
• avoid sugars and fried foods.
Hope this helps.

Does anyone know?
So the title is justified despite certain Asian countries doing better in the QS rankings. Not everything is about rankings.
Well ▮▮▮ offer documents for shoddy companies like PayTM and MamaEarth don’t count when deciding who is gold standard.
PS - Naredi & Gupta should ▮▮▮ call they took in the PNBHFL fiasco. ▮▮▮
Weren’t the Regional Practice Heads designated under him just to ensure that the partners who sign the opinions have actually seen the offer documents?
I completed my graduation from a law school that has no name in the market (and no faculty to teach the basics), I wanted to put myself on the radar of employers, besides learning from experienced faculty who actually teach something useful.
I am interested in research work and can work as a researcher. But I also want to earn money (adulting, financial independence, etc.) and can see myself working in a law firm.
Any tips to get into T1/T2 law firms?
More seriously, the answer is to reduce stress, get lots of sleep, reduce sitting on a chair all day and reduce eating carbs: unfortunately none of which is possible if you work in a law firm. So maybe consider a stint at the Finance Ministry or SEBI or SBI or Invest India for a year, if your firm allows?
+13 PPOs
What may make it interesting are the people you work with, or some actual legal discussion about some grey area with your team members - which may not even go into the legal document or opinion you are preparing.
Also, here’s a better strategy - instead of trying to find ‘interesting’ practice areas, go to office, finish your work, come home and pursue a hobby which you genuinely like. Nothing beats the creativity and passion you have for something you are already interested in.
All the best!
All in particular order
Any guidance on the same would be really helpful
Dealt with quite a few of the EC Member at L&L and outside – Karan, Piyush, Avirup, Nishant and they are solid partners. Not sure if the EC members are equity partners.
Advait has to hold the Rajiv’s equity, as he is the only lawyer in the family – I don’t think he is running the firm.
From what I hear, there is a process on for coming up with a revamped governance and equity structure.
I think it is good for the firm – they are moving from one rainmaker, to multiple revenue generating partners.
