We want LI to be one of the friendliest places on the internet, where lawyers and law students help each other with their career related queries and occasionally discuss other stuff that might affect their lives too. In other words:
1. Be kind, respectful and helpful to each other.
2. Be bona fide, truthful, genuine and curious.
3. Assume the best intention of others.
Therefore, in using the site, you must agree to do your best to uphold these community guidelines.

Do you solemnly agree to all of the above?
Is it due to not being able to work in top places of your field (like Tier 1s or Legal roles in Famous MNCs)
Or is it not being able to go for Post Docs?
Or is it not being able to excel in STEM?
Now partner in a T2.
Offline has better conversion chances, since you're working with the team in person and you form those personal bonds which make it easier for them to pick you over hundreds of other people.
What you should do is -
Take your maternity leave or go on a sabbatical or maybe go in house.
Law firms are mostly like this. Only exception is during maternity leave or sabbatical. The reason is billing. The partner has heavy targets and they must utilise every resource available to them and bill the max.
You are a PA which means you are a very expensive resource (50 to 70 LPA) They will not show any mercy because of your pregnancy or when you become a new mother. Because you as a resource is expensive.
Go in house. Don't join another law firm or big 4.
You can start whenever you like, if you have the mettle you will make it.

I need suggestions to apply for good direct tax litigation firms. I am fine with working in Mumbai, Bangalore or Delhi, however the deciding factors are good working culture and good pay have. Well, to talk about my experience, I have 7 years of experience handling both direct and international tax matters and I posses credentials of CA, CS, LLB and LLM. I would really appreciate your responses.
my cousin, who founded a 'crazy' Al startup long before the Al boom, and my own brother, who works at Google DeepMind. This makes me feel deeply insecure so much so that I feel anxious whenever someone asks what I'm doing right after asking about my brother. Because I don't study at a top-tier or even a mid-tier university, I feel small in comparison, and sometimes I just don't want to be here.
Growing up, I was a 'B' or 'C' student. My parents didn't focus much on my studies because their first experience was with my brother, who was a natural topper without even trying. Because of this, I was never taught how to study or how to approach complex problems at an early age-an issue I still struggle with today. It might sound silly, but it's a genuine struggle. Despite this, through my own efforts, I've maintained a 9+ CGPA and secured two Tier-2 internships. Yet, I still find myself crying at night, feeling like I was 'robbed' of the high-IQ genetics my family seems to share; for context, my father has a Post-Doc in Polytechnic Fiber and my mother has a Post-Doc in Mathematical Computation
How does someone deal with the anxiety of being inferior.
Also, please provide tips for the interview.
How do I make a comeback from here? I really wanna get a law firm job and do well like my batchmates, and willing to put all efforts towards it, so guide me regarding the same, will appreciate a lot, thanks
Can u help with the review and culture
only if you have own connections
very good decision
I had a female boss who vindictively gave work on weekends to a new mother to punish her. She would get a lackey to send the e-mail as well โ never directly. I completed the work for the new mother without the boss knowing it because I felt awful. The new mother was treated poorly internally, and no action was taken against the boss at the time โ only an investigation for the sake of it, despite senior partners noticing it all. Money talks loudest in law firms.
Women on my team who got married or had kids at the time were always under immediate scrutiny. Most who got married or had kids left. Those who were married were treated more harshly โ do not buy into their Lean In worldview. All of that is corporatespeak wrapped in pink. There is no prospect of escalating to the Bar Council โ lawyers have no recourse and have never been model employers. Find a new job. Your kid is your priority. Your husband needs to be around, too. Get his buy-in. Full stop.
Doing M&A and PE plus strategic advice. Itโs the other way around actually. Being in BLC is z stepping stone to get into KLA.
Looking for tips on:
- -Structuring research efficiently
- -Avoiding superficial analysis
- -Making briefs more useful
- -Common mistakes interns should avoid
-
Would really appreciate insights from interns who got callbacks/PPO offers on what actually stands out.
P.S. Requesting the moderators to publish this at the earliestโthank you!
If you don't know where you should go, then perhaps you shouldn't do it.
You have Day Zero and Day One so just do your best. Inhouse is your safety valve if you fail to crack any of T1 firms at your Day Z.
I am still haunted by an evil girl senior from my NLU, who is now in a law firm. You SUCK lady!
Yes, if they do score a huge upset and win, there will be total chaos: the whole GC/EC and admin will be disrupted. But just 10% chance, so we aren't losing sleep. Equivalent of Netherlands defeating India in a cricket match (or India defeating Netherlands in a football match ๐ฅฒ).
Thus, the focus for NUJS has to be to work within the existing setup. Maybe seek a meeting with Menaka Guruswamy and plead for more funds and support from the TMC.
I'd ask you to get in touch with your partner/HR and ask politely for a 4 week internship, if possible. If you've secured the internship on merit, it ideally shouldn't be impossible. There are some who also get a week extension during the internship, but these cases are few and far between.
Since 2025, โฎโฎโฎ.
The Delhi office lit team seem to be in a better state since they have younger partners โฎโฎโฎ. In general though, Tuli suffers due to a lack of skilled associates and is extremely top heavy. Your hours will get eaten by your seniors because they need to meet their targets โฎโฎโฎ

Tell your partner that you are entering the critical third trimester phase, and you cannot work these hours and you will need support in terms of more juniors. And remind him/her that you will be leaving in a month for delivery and transition is to be done. Put this on email !!!!
If your partner still doesnt understand, tell your partner that you will have to advance your leave on account of complications. Keep the HR in loop as well.
As you will be aware - this phase is extremely critical for the health of your baby. Any emotional or physical stress will have lifelong consequences.
Suffering process as punishment isn't an option. But to institutionalise entrenchment of the same whereby the ecosystem supports alleged perps to audaciously get away while the SJA keeps padding up individual CV is something that should be called out more loudly and consistently till change is riveted into the system.
โIn view of the voluntary and purposeful cooperation extended by Vinesh Chandel during the investigation and without prejudice to the rights and contention of ED, ED is not opposing the present bail application," the central agency told the court.

And this happens just shortly before the Bengal election results are declared??
Would like to see him as a partner someday.
This VC โฎโฎโฎ. Writing such a demeaning email towards both the SBA and Batch26 is a shame and tells a lot why this university doesn't progress. Because People at the top have such thinking.
Will this VC have guts to reply if we ask him what he has done. What's his report of the year? He's easily assessing the student community for everything (which honestly no one asked him for) but will he able to let us assess him. NO! #removeVCV
I hope their HR takes notice of this event.

- Work: The work we do is repetitive. My SA mostly does the same work as me, just with higher accountability. I do not want to be pigeonholed into reviewing documents throughout my career.
- People: The people are unnecessarily problematic and controlling. I have friends across other tier-1 firms, and even if my team may be relatively better, I still find it hard to tolerate.

SERIOUSLY??????
I don't understand which part was impractical here?
Asking better water and food quality so that half of the students do not get admitted to hospital? or Seeking nurse's assistant after 5:30 pm or just ice for treating wounds when uni claims to ensure 24 hour medical support via nurse? or Asking for faculties who actually knows to teach, or discussion rooms for students? or Asking for merely permission to let's 3+ member team do international moot (without funds of the 'extra' member and minimal namesake fund for the 3 member btw). Or to ensure less arbitrariness in marking by incompetent panel of faculties, seeking mid sem instead for moot court exercise of 25 marks filled with numerous loopholes??
Wt! was unreasonable here ?
This is not even half of the practical reasonable demands which have been left unheard by admin.
Even in the so called "discussion" with admin, it is a well known fact that VC is the only one who speaks non stop for like 3/4th part of meeting and then when it comes to students to seek practical things to be done, they are being shouted upon by registrar and other deans.
The sheer miserable state of affairs.
And the point that students can't even do anything here. As admin possess arbitrary power enough to take down whole career of a students in uni merely by putting proto on some antu jhantu cause.
They have had summoned students for proto and punished them merely coz they filed RTI to know something about University.
At this point, alums needs step in to do something. Please save hnlu. It's my humble request to hold uni accountable and not let it's arbitrary power go on. Please!!

"Dear Members of the Student Bar Association (2025โ2026) and outgoing batch of 2026 of UG & PG,
As the academic year has ended this week, it is both appropriate and instructive to reflect upon the tenure of the outgoing Student Bar Association/ batch of 2026 one marked, without doubt, by ambition in articulation and enthusiasm in projection.
The Associationโs engagement with โmacro-level analysisโ and its professed foresight on a wide spectrum of institutional issues has been, at the very least, noteworthy. One must acknowledge the consistency with which large-scale visions were presented, even if their translation into measurable outcomes occasionally remainedโฆ aspirational.
It is equally pertinent to note that, despite repeated assurances of maintaining decorum in the campus and at University functions, the year witnessed unfortunate instances of indiscipline among constituents. The expectation that SBA leadership would effectively regulate such conduct appears to have been an evolving objective rather than an achieved standard.
From the administrationโs perspective, there has never been any hesitation in encouraging innovation or new propositions. However, as you may now better appreciate, governance requires not only imagination but also a careful calibration of feasibility, legal constraints, institutional discipline, and, importantly, the confidence of parents who entrust us with their wards.
The numerous meetings held over the year, along with discussions on deliverables, reflect a sustained engagement particularly on those issues that could withstand the test of practical implementation. The pursuit of other, more ambitious promises continues to remain an instructive exercise in understanding the gap between intent and execution.
As your mentors and administrators, we consider such experiences as integral to leadership learning.
On a concluding note, we extend our very best wishes to the outgoing team and to all the outgoing batch of students. May you carry forward not only the zeal to envision change around you, but also the wisdom to implement it with responsibility, discipline, and foresight.
Wishing you all good health, meaningful opportunities, and enduring success. Not just the last five years but always HNLU will be your emotional space even at a distance.
Yours affectionately,
Vice Chancellor"
In an ideal world, of course you should be able to seek help, but in reality, this is likely to entail a lot of gaslighting, nitpicking your every word, slut shaming and little to no recourse. Needless to say, I do not condone any of this, and wish the world wasn't this unfair.
By all means, get a rape kit test if you want to keep your options open, and most certainly get started on treatment to reduce the risk of STDs, but don't rush into filing a complaint unless you are certain. Solely to protect your peace, you may want to consider speaking to a good therapist about this.
I'm drawn towards that area. Can you please delineate how worse is the timing that you mentioned, & nature of work pressure?
Thanks!
