Further, if you time permits you can try territorial army, you can enjoy defence life for few months in a year.
Getting into JAG is tricky. Getting into TA is even trickier.
In any case, people who join/ want to join any of the services are way above the botheration about how they would be treated.
Both, and for that matter any service is a great choice.
Just get in touch to people down at AIL and they can put you in touch with one of us in the service. Coming through a real person makes all the difference.
However, if you do not wish to them you shall be given an additional 4 years. And retire at 14 years of service.
If you still wish to stay in the service, then you can apply for a territorial army commission at this point. All retired short service officers are given the same if they wish to continue. You keep the same salaries and perks attached to your rank and years of service. Contrary of popular belief TA can be a full time gig. You are required to do a mandatory minimum time each year, but there is no upper limit. However, you will not get senior command via this route (but you weren’t going to get it in the JAG in any case).
My point is that as an outsider these things - JAG being short service may seem cut and dry. However, once you are in any profession/job/business or service, you will come to know off avenue that an outsider just won’t. Anyhow, I don’t gain anything from you guys accepting my word or not, so ab aapki marzi, maan na hai to maan no warna na sahi.
PARA is a volunteer force, but are there any bars which prevent people who have joined the army through JAG to volunteer for it?
Yes, the recognition might be slightly low because it's not a fighting arm (army has a lot of them). Everything else is legit the same.
Plus never make selection in Army your first preference, first clear the SSB and medicals. For all you know you might not even be screened in considering how erratic the selections are. So please do this xyz once you have cleared the interviews. Legit will take your least time. No exam, just a seven day interview which btw they pay for.
