If, on the other hand, it is because they were victims of politics, then that is indeed unfortunate. Not taking any names, but a certain person (who is not popular with students and is quite biased) has been given too much power.

I am seeing certain feminists sympathise with Siya and suggest that she was forced ro marry him and lied to. But the facts are clear:

1. She apparently already knew he was bald. So not a secret he hid. They weren't yet married, so she could have called it off.

2. Re forced marriage, she already had a bf, so this is not some shy village girl. She could have told her parents she doesn't want to marry.

if you were to only pick one of these law schools over the other, which one would it be based on your research? Choose that. And there is enough consensus literally everywhere to know that this question is a no brainer - it's not NUJS v NALSAR or NLUD v NALSAR/NLS that you are talking about. You are not a child any longer, learn to take decisions based on your own judgement when you are going to get your parents to spend 3-5x the usual fees instead of having random strangers feed you answers who wouldn't ever be bothered if your career's trajectory suffers.

Hostels are hard to make. NLS has very limited land and plans for the new hostels are still in consultation phase.

Your seniors are to be blamed to a very small extent. But it is mostly Sudhir to blame. The University did not think this through. But at least they're providing off campus accommodation, which in many things is better than in campus one. Some of the faculty also stays off campus.

So, after going through whatever has been discussed in this thread, I feel that ADHD is not something which a person can recover from, and it is there to stay, hearing from all your experiences. And I, as a person, have a very serious doubt that I am suffering from ADHD right this moment, and have been suffering for quite some time. Even though I know I have very important and time-sensitive work, even then I don't do it unless someone is standing at my head 24/7. There is no self-motivation, even though I have all the knowledge that, yes, I need to complete it anyhow.

And apart from this, recently, I discovered through a blood test that I am also deficient in Vitamin D and Vitamin B12, and there have been episodes of depression, I believe. I'm not sure. And I am definitely going for therapy soon enough to actually find out how things are.

What I actually need to understand from everyone here is: is ADHD something which can never be treated? Can we never be like someone who does not have ADHD and can work as much as they want, as efficiently as they want, and are self-motivated to keep on going?

Right now, I'm litigating in Hyderabad for the last two years with a senior at the High Court, but I feel that I want to switch to a litigation team at a law firm for better pay at this point in time.

So will my life at a tier one or tier two law firm here in Hyderabad, on the litigation team, be tough? Or otherwise, if not in Hyderabad, in general also, will it be tough if I get into a good litigation team with ADHD? And will I not be able to work around it, like, treat myself?

i am from tier 1.5i-2 ish pvt law college , 4th year, never done a moot, adr, mun (not even participated due to social anxiety). 0 certifications or publications either. . i am a 1st gen lawyer. i havent had a good internship till now. i am about to start my 7th sem and i feel like everybody is soooooooo ahead of me. i havent done any intenrship even in a tier 3 law firm. i so regret my law degree. if i knew i had to do intenrships every other semester, i would've never done this. pls i need genuine guidance/help/advice. i cant let my parents hard earned money go to waste. pls i cry as i seek for help

You can opt for either, not much difference between them. Kolkata is just an easier city to live in, while NLUJ has better infra. Placement-wise not much to tell those apart, a hard working student will get placed from either place. NUJS faculty are a little better in some subjects than NLUJ. And NUJS students get an insane amount of freedom which can be good, bad, or ugly depending on how you use it. NLUJ current VC is better than the absentees VC of NUJS.

NLUs are not accommodation service providers. The hostels are incidental services and it is most cost and scale efficient to provide a single kind of accommodation.

If you want to pay more, you can always opt for off campus accomodation where there is a free market at all price ranges.

Inner circle is still close. We're in different cities but visit/stay over/hang out when we're in each other's cities. Most of us attended each other's weddings too.

Other than inner circle, most people have drifted. Some are in occasional contact, others I havent spoken to after graduation

I should’ve known better but…

I was naive and I informed my partner (F) that the managing associate (M) had misbehaved with me, he made a pass, touched my hand and made a very inappropriate remark. I dont know why I ever told my partner, it cost me my job, my entire career went downhill, I think she may have also given negative feedback on my work to the other partners to ensure that I couldn’t change teams within the firm. Anyway this completely pushed me out of the system. Lesson learnt the hard way that it’s best to keep these things to yourself, just shut up and move on with your life.

Highest package: 1.45 crores at IIM Calcutta

Lowest package: 29.86 lakh at IIM Kashipur

Now compare with NLUs. IIM Calcutta is the third-best IIM, so its equivalent would be NALSAR or NLUD if we go by NIRF/QS ranking. IIM is much higher. Even if you compare with NLSIU, still much higher.

IIM Kashipur would be the equivalent of IIM Ranchi or Guwahati or Sonipat. Still IIM much higher.

Withholding 15-20% of the bonus of associates till August (without paying any interest) was not enough for the firm that they have now decided to effectively pass on out of pocket expenses to associates. The firm cancelled its Uber subscription. Now as per their new reimbursement policy, all out of pocket expenses, including cabs, late meals, etc., shall be reimbursed to associates only when the client actually pays it. We have been told that partners can ask for advance from clients for out of pocket expenses. It is sort of absurd for any partner to ask for advance for such out of pocket expenses unless it is substantial in nature. Also, there is no clarity as to what happens if the client does not pay or if the associate leaves the firm before the client pays. In substance, the associate is out of pocket.

I believe you completely. I was just not sure because the GD did not mention it. You know, I never received an email from them regarding the test location, even though I had emailed about it. In fact, I had even filled out the location preference forms. I don't understand how people are being shortlisted without a test, when it's already the 27th; those who received test dates are probably taking the test today. I have over 1 year of experience (PQE) and applied because their post said so. At JD, they talk about looking for freshers, but in the initial application form, they also asked about previous work experience. I don't know how they eliminate people without any discussion.

Very alarmed to see how patriarchy, majoritarianism, capitalism and right-wing nationalism is so normalised in the present generation of NLU students. You would think the present generation would be more liberal, but that isn’t happening. I wonder why? NLSIU has not been a research-led university under Sudhir. If anything, the entire focus has been on teaching at the expense of research. I don't dispute that Sudhir has done a great job in getting so many good faculties there in such a short period of time. However, the research and publication output of those people have suffered considerably by their own admission during their time at NLSIU. They are overworked with teaching and admin responsibilities. You can speak to any of them to confirm this.

Paying bonus in 2 tranches one in march and the second in july is possibly better than most of the firms do particularly when the quantum is so high and the realisations are delayed thanks to market conditions. Someone leaving immediately after march may get deprived of the second tranche but whether its fair or unfair depends upon how one is looking at it. Share from equity profit gets distributed on realisations which do not finish by march.

My life has never been boring. I feel at home in conflicts may be due to the rush of adrenaline and dopamine to my chronically dopamine deprived brain.

In my opinion Lawyers with ADHD will thrive in litigation much better than in corporate law.

I am either 0 or 200%. Like many said above, especially for us, we must find our niche at all cost or we are doomed. We will burnout faster than any neurotypical while doing that doesn't interest us.

My SA made a 24 hour delay in submitting a report to a client and the partner was pissed with them. The SA said they took a lot of time because I didn’t proof read properly.

I has proof read the report 2 days ago. And the day before the submission of the report the SA had just gone home at 7pm and did nothing.

This practice area is well past its golden days. There are too many law firms and boutique consultants competing for the same limited number of trade investigations that Indian government carries out each year. The fee that these firms charge has kept declining over the years. Competition for work is too intense. With revenues stalling or declining, trade teams across firms have seen very limited growth in terms of number of attorneys and attorney promotions overall have also become difficult in teams among larger law firms. Merely that the field may offer interesting work should not be the only factor for a fresher to enter this field. Trade law work in India primarily concerns trade investigations, which extensively involves data/number crunching for which CAs are always preferred. Core legal issues are hardly fought at investigation level. Most legal submissions in investigations are copy-paste of past templates. Even if you try new arguments, you will not see much acceptance from the trade department officers. If at all some legal issues require appeals to higher forums, such appeals are limited in number and appellate tribunal or High Courts/Supreme Court are not very keen to hear such complex data heavy matters on priority. If you want to be trained as a good lawyer, the trade investigations side of things is not really a good place to start your career. If numbers don’t bother you, you may try, but your growth and promotion potential over a long-term period shall be limited. If you aspire to be a partner some day, I am sorry to break it to you, it is going to be very difficult in comparison to growth in other traditional and upcoming areas of law. There are very few trade law firms in India that do advisory work in trade law, which encompasses interpretation of WTO agreements, free trade agreements, non-tariff barriers, etc. Work on the advisory side is also limited and very niche. I cannot think of any trade practitioner who has made it practicing trade advisory work - perhaps Clarus Law. But again, beyond gaining valuable experience in your formative years, you won’t be able to progress beyond a certain point in trade advisory firms as well. Other places for trade advisory work would be Centre for WTO Studies and Centre for Trade and Investment Law. You will get intellectually rewarding work in these Indian government think tanks, and they directly work with Ministry of Commerce. The trade teams in law firms are structured in such a way because of the kind of trade law work that commands value in India - which is basically trade investigations and some limited number of appeals in tribunal and courts. Trade law work in the US, UK, and EU is much diverse - but it is very difficult to get into those firms and too in such niche practice areas. Trade law work may look appealing, but it is not for everyone. And if you have growth aspirations, avoid this area. I am not trying to sound gloomy, but just sharing my lived experience practicing trade law.

NB: I am not the one who wrote the comment about Menon, but I agree with it, which is why I intend to defend it against your arguments.

You clearly don't understand what Sudhir fanboys think. That's all I can say, being one myself. In fact, I am the guy that brings up Paul Craig in relation to Sudhir regularly (and BTW let's start by getting our terms right: Sudhir did a 'DPhil': while Oxford PhDs are called DPhil, let's at least be precise with our terminology).

To elaborate: Universities need different kinds of leadership at different times. Menon was what was required for NLSIU at the beginning of its journey. He made innovations in legal education that were not there before. While his qualification background is unfortunate, it is not unforgivable, considering what he did - bringing in updated notions of what the teaching of law in India should look like in the modern age. As Sudhir himself says, Menon brought NLSIU 'onto the educational map'. Without that, Sudhir would have had no foundation to take it onto the international stage.

Meanwhile now, NLSIU needs something different. It needs people who will make it do the kinds of things that the best universities of the world do. It needs people with connections in the world's best universities. It needs to convert from a largely teaching-based uni into a Humboldtian university, the type that does research-led teaching. Sudhir is the best man in India to lead the university while it does that, head and shoulders above the overwhelming majority of his contemporaries. Is he the best possible university leader the world has ever seen? Probably not. But he is certainly the best we could have for NLSIU under Indian conditions.

Therefore, it would be much appreciated if you could please stop bringing up such malicious and silly arguments. If you want to bring up further malicious arguments, at least make the effort to use the full powers of your intellect to do so. Thanks and best wishes for the rest of your day. You're only stepping into your 3rd year kid. Relax. Internships will start coming in mainly from your 7th sem. Just make sure you repeat what you're doing now towards the end of the 6th sem. And don't overdo it, else you may risk getting blocked or marked spam by a people who might help you get the internship later.

Don't worry too much about it. Most places don't treat interns seriously or take them in at all before their penultimate year. And everyone knows that if someone's interning at a good place in their second year, it's only because of their connections. Neither do they get work, nor are they assessed for it. Weird situation for everyone. Get to work when the time comes, which is mainly in your fourth and fifth year. Till then, focus on getting your grades up this year.

As someone who interviewed with them recently, prepare basic GC questions from those primers every college internship committees have. They ask 3-4 simple questions from corp to see your understanding, plus a couple or so from your CV. However, don't rely on the interview at all. Like one of the earlier comments suggest, you'll most likely be rejected irrespective of how well your interview went, and you'll be left wondering what went wrong. Has happened to a quite a few people around me.

I cannot comment regarding academics, being an incoming student. However, I can comment on the living situations, and the headache the admin has caused for the bo'31. We are the first BA LLB batch in which the majority of students have been accomodated outside of campus (around 7km away, and 170+ kids), all because Sudhir saw it fit to increase batch sizes to 310 within 5 years, without ensuring proportional infrastructural development.

The admin chose to spring this information regarding this arrangement on the 24th of June, when trimester 1 is scheduled to start in 5 days, and onboarding is day after tommorow. Common batch snetiment is that this is due to a mix of senior apathy, as they only protested when their situation was subpar, and an admin which just wanted to push the problem as long as they can without solving it. Hostels could've been easily built, but corruption (no names) is a bitch, i guess. Sudhir definitely solved many problems NLS had. In the process, he caused 10 other issues.

It is a fact that where economy is booming, law also booms. Eg: Bombay HC as always. With decline of mad & &cal, their high courts also cost relevance. Delli he now new premier HC that too in the recent 30 40 years. So now with change of gov in Bengal, will there be more investments as people expect? If yes, how wie it affect the legal professionals? Will the other t-1 firms set up offices here? Wil the fees ot Calcutta cousels, which are on average lower than mom / mad/del counterparts, increase?
