Also, another thing I have come to realise is that since Bangalore does not have a lot of good institutes asides, NLS of course and Christ, the competition is already low and the city presenting a natural barrier for outsiders vis-a-vis language and cultural environment, the ones who have accustomed to or are locals have an edge when it comes to the home-grown market. Delhi and Mumbai are already saturated with local college and students flocking from outside cities, meanwhile Bangalore's legal market is still largely pristine and is expected to grown in the future. The only issue is, how to transition there from other cities.
Please look at the number of GCCs which have set up or massively expanded in Bangalore over the last couple of years (Airbus, Boeing, Apple, JPM, GS, Walmart, etc)
(if you ignore the unhinged social media ranting by 22 year olds who are suddenly hit with a dual shock of (i) things cost money, and (ii) not everyone speaks Hindi).
In this century alone:
- A Chief Minister has been a Rajput from Rajasthan
- An elected Lok Sabha MP has been a Mizo
- Half the MLAs are Telugu
- The heads of the Chambers of Commerce, BCIC, and the like have been Punjabis and Sindhis
I can go on, but Bangalore's social, sporting, business and cultural ecosystems are all thriving because of people who are "native" to other states.
Put in the hard work, and you'll make it big. Not being local is not an issue, especially in a white collar job.
However, I disagree on your last point. Many teams implicitly have a preference for BLR locals which they can never own up to publicly. I've heard partners openly say they'll only hire Kannadigas over lunch, and odd hiring decisions that appear to be solely premised on this preference.
