In terms of absolute numbers, not a huge difference in placements. That aside, the infra, faculty and student opportunities (exchange programmes, RA assignments, conferences etc) at Jindal are far superior to these tier 2 NLUs.

A fresh graduate from the 3-Year batch (JGLS) here. I just wanted to mention one thing that seems to have been missed for some reason. You get great faculty at JGLS and crazy exposure through the faculty. As someone who got into NLS, JGLS and DU, i preferred to stay in JGLS precisely for this reason. One clarification: you get great faculty at numerous law schools - no denying that. But, the key lies in how approachable and helpful the faculty is in Jindal. You come across academic stalwarts just casually strolling in campus, always ready for a conversation. Also, as a beneficiary of the kind mentorship of some professors, I can tell you that they go miles out of their comfort zone to help you figure out everything - not just academically, but also professionally. The interaction I've had with other 3-year kids, especially at DU, is drastically different. I also want to caveat this by mentioning that I may just be lucky, or have only spoken to people who had weird experiences in the other alternatives like NLS, GLC or DU.

Secondly, I also want to highlight the scholarships. If you can get 2 simultaneous scholarships - Jindal becomes pretty affordable. If cost is a big factor, try speaking to the admission counsellors about this - they'll give you an idea about what kind of scholarships you might potentially get based on your score - usually a 50% if you've got good scores. If you want more, you can approach the scholarship committee.

Among many, one weakness stands out though: the jindal tag. There's a clear reputation that JGLS has when it comes to employment (which I think is changing now). But yeah, from personal experience, its more a presumption than a tag. If you're the kind who's got a good work ethic, people usually cast doubts on the presumption and treat you as any other NLU grad.

One bonus point: if you're into critical legal studies or some other form of disruptive/transformative legal thought, JGLS is undoubtedly the place for you.

if you're willing to invest the time, there's this really great video by Siddharth Chauhan on Nalsar's youtube channel where he explains everything about how to go about writing academic papers in law. It's a bit long, and I have personally not been able to completely watch both the videos yet, but I am sure it would help.

I have noticed a recent trend where the firms where our seniors used to intern at, a few years back after their 5th sem, have suddenly changed for my batch ('28). Even good t2 firms now want mostly interns in their 4th years.

Maybe my CV also isn't enough but can people here please suggest good firms to intern at after 5th sem? And what exactly is it that they look for? My preferred location is Delhi.

The answer is very simple, expectations. Once you get into a NLU (Most of the times it's a First Gen Guy), you expect the placements, the jobs, the environment that you dreamed. Corp law is just a tiny part. Law is raw and brutal, the chamber system, and the restrictions on how you approach the courts are primitive and not lucrative.

Unfortunately, all this culminates to a pressure like situation. I'm T2 grad, couldn't secure placements and that seems to be an end.

For your situation, impossible, I think. The "kar le PhD" comment, though probably intended as a joke by the one who wrote it, is actually not that bad advice. Let's be clear though, I don't think a PhD is gonna help you get into Trilegal. In your circs, go for academia and have done with it!

Maybe Hyderabad and Ahmedabad are better and will overtake Bengaluru if things continue like this? At least anti-Hindi sentiment shouldn’t be there in these cities, given the large number of Urdu speakers in Hyderabad and the fact that Gujaratis are comfortable in Hindi?

Very very difficult with your profile to anywhere near a T-1. I would suggest joining a commercial disputes court chamber, leverage that to move to a t-2 in a couple of years, leverage that to move to a t-1 in a couple of years

after more than 10 years of marriage and two kids later, my wife (who is a high flying medic) still pinches me during fights for being a lawyer. I usually counter by saying that she may save lives but I am a master at saving PDFs. This inevitably breaks up the fight. i am from the 2026 batch- and quite frankly, terrified of sitting for day 0. would love to have any sort of help/ pointers about how to go about it, GD questions, interview styles etc. my batch rank would be in the top 30s (mostly) but i still cant bank on merely my marks getting me something.

Mostly people leave and as for people still working there - they will bounce as soon as they can.

Bharucha lacks the incentives which can retain resources. The pay isn’t comparable. The work is mostly uninteresting. The environment is depressing, perhaps they were right to select black and grey as their colour scheme - cause that is how it feels to be there. I would also add that the partners are unimpressive barring the ones not in Delhi and Mumbai. Hardly any conversation or partner reviewed work product stands out. Their incompetency coupled with their mannerisms and toxicity doesn’t bode well for Bharucha.

OP here. Let me answer the 'what did he do for debating?' query. I attended one of the other colleges in Bangalore and was a regular participant in the NLS Debate during my student days. I remember Sid.C being the Tournament Director in 2005 and being part of the adjudication core in 2006 and 2007. He personally convinced people from many Indian colleges to start their foray into parliamentary-style debating around that time. Alumni from NUJS, NALSAR, Christ Law, IIT Bombay and several DU colleges have told me that he helped in developing the activity at their institutions, either by judging internal selections or helping them in organising the early editions of their tournaments. I last met him in 2012 when he had just started teaching at NLSIU and was very much helping the students interested in this activity. I lost touch with him after he moved to NALSAR and just recently found out that he is back at NLSIU. Good to know that some current students have positive things to say about him.

I flagged this comment. Please see the video objectively first. The remarks she made were not directed at prophet Mohammed. She made a crude joke about the virgins in paradise concept. I can’t see how that’s equal to attacking the prophet Mohammed. The remark was directed at the terrorists to say that they will not go to paradise but a whorehouse. Then what about Mamata’s comment about “Ganda Dharma”? And worse comments made by her party colleagues and DMK bigwigs?

I’ve been facing a mental health crisis for the past two and a half months, with things steadily worsening. In my mid-level role, I’m constantly witnessing expectations from partners and trying to manage associates— who can at times be exclusionary and cold. To be frank, I have been far from an ideal colleague to work with either.

But also this often leaves me feeling isolated and overwhelmed, especially when symptoms flare up mid-workday. A lot of these things also exaggerates inside my head when I face a bad mood swing. And above that, taking any sought of stress or being angry worsen the condition and leave me with feeling of heavy pressure on my brain and pain in body, because of which I often avoid speaking. The cold work environment only deepens the emotional toll, affecting my stability and night sleep.

I’m not looking to quit, but I’m trying to understand how others cope in similarly passively cold environments where you feel unwanted. I’m willing to fight with my teeth then to fall into depression but the crisis do end up making me feel as if I’m walking wounded.

Neck down and work. Dont involve yourself too much in politics at early stages. Be charming and nice, enjoy your work and remember this was your dream at some point so live it.

You'll learn mostly while at work and it's natural to be scolded by seniors sometimes, not shouted or abused though. Improve from it and build relationships which last, people benefit each other for life and not just at firms.

Finally enjoy with your money which tbh isn't a lot left in terms of time or what you save initially, so eat well and take care of wellbeing. Date or do not date whatever works for you, a lot many times single people will be happier if they find themselves, sometimes committed ones are better too. Figure what's your thing.

It's a long race and plan it like that, all the li toxicity aside it's a job which a fraction of 1% are able to get so count yourself lucky and absorb.

There are many qualities that make a great partner, but the most important is empathy—followed by a genuine intention to invest in you, both personally and professionally. Next comes intention:

Do they want to pay it forward?

What's the best NLU option you have? BBA LLB from Christ not worth it IMHO. Overall you are better off doing the BBA as coursework, internships/placements, culture, community etc. will be much more oriented towards banking. I agree with the folks who told you law is a distraction.

Some inside info: there are discussions happening among certain students and alumni of SLS on whether to issue a statement of solidarity. Of course is the legal question of FOE and the argument that she didn't abuse Muslims as a whole but only Pakistanis. But what makes this case interesting is that even people from the Congress and Left have criticised this arrest, because both these parties are in opposition in Bengal. So it's not a BJP vs liberal issue, but a TMC vs Everyone Else issue. It's true that the AIMIM and Samajwadi Party have supported the arrest, but these parties have no support in urban student circles (and neither does the TMC -- urban liberal Bengalis are usually Left supporters).
