Cyril scoops Platinum Nivedita Tiwari to join rest of MNK in Delhi

Platinum Partners partner Nivedita Tiwari will join Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas as a partner in Delhi.

Managing partner Cyril Shroff confirmed her joining when contacted by Legally India.

Tiwari did not respond to calls seeking comment.

She had joined Platinum in September 2014 after one year with MNK Law Offices, which she had joined from Luthra & Luthra in August 2013.

Cyril Amarchand had hired three of MNK’s four remaining partners – Gyanendra Kumar, Anuradha Mukherjee, and Srinivas Kilambi - in April 2015.

We have reached out to Platinum for comment.

Update 16:52: Platinum partner Karam Daulet-Singh commented by email: “We wish Nivedita all the best.”

Her move was first reported by Bar & Bench.

Fellas, refer to my comments when MNK moved to CAM- I was bombarded that NT will not shift to CAM- and here it is. It was always in the offing just the timing was a little delayed! Anyways best of luck to NT

She will be a perfect fit at CAM given her Luthra pedigree - smaller flat structure firms like Platinum seldom work for lawyers who have only worked with firms with hierarchy based structures

So is this an acknowledgment that PP was not working out for her ?

Could you explain what that means? No research? What is the kind of work that PP does then?

Can you not make out that the comment has been moderated by LI. There is a difference between intelligent research and research on issues which are not significant from an over-all transaction perspective! Have a good one!

And there is a difference between a lawyer with an eye for detail and a lawyer who is not. Clients pay to get a full picture and don't expect lawyers to take a call on liability issues however small it is.

There is a significant difference in your skills as a lawyer than certain others. Presumably you have only worked with Indian promoters on fixed fee mandates, who like to see a big fat document (regardless of the fact that nobody will read it). A CFO/ CEO of a global corporation running 15 deals simultaneously will not care if 200 rupee fine is or will be imposed. He is only interested in reading a document that gives him a picture of real material risks which will have a bearing on the business. From a personal experience, a dd report of 500 pages of utter nonsense is of no-use and frankly my dear it absolutely does not reflect on your eye for detail! I have seen a two page crisp summaries or an email with real risks do wonder than a 500 page dd report with million annex and gazillion schedules :)

Good catch for CAM! Having worked with NT in L&L, I know she will do very well in CAM. Nihar & Karam are good guys but it will be difficult for them to retain talent with the FF support model they have - unless foreign firms are allowed to officially start functioning in India.

What is this conviction that PP pays well? This is despite no info on deals they do or salaries they pay.

Join PP and you will know. The take home component at PP is quite high as compared to any Tier 1 firm.

Guest 8 Jun 2015, 11:05

I am not sure whether she has any book but at the same time she is probably being scooped up for her diligent work. CAM's books are way too big and he is more than willing to share with competent people like NT

Bhai sahab, aap itna gussa kyon ho gaye is prashn par? I asked this question because it is a latest fashion these days in all law firms to talk about the 'books' people carry!

Great hire for cam. Especially in corporate which was otherwise a tad weak. Nivedita has big firm experience and can match up to any lawyer anywhere. . Absolutely top class hire. .
In Sam. [...] With so many litigators like warier Bhalla and others. What does. Shiraz add except Dow chemicals account? [...] 8 crore is the sum being paid to Shiraz. [...]
Seems both firms are now close to completing current phase . Though Sam will do a Bangalore hire soon. And perhaps a big Mumbai hire under Akshay
Oh what fun this has been.

The good news at Sam is that with the senior hires the firm is becoming more proffessional. Seems the fear about the nepotistic succession are receding . Well done Sam. [...]. Good for Sam and attracting better talent . Of course it has to be seen as to whether its it's only for now or is it a structural change . The mood on the floor is that its only a temporary phase. And the family including [...] are calling the shots . When that becomes apparent all the new hires will leave . For cam
