Former Amarchand Mangaldas Gurgaon-based IP partner Ranjan Negi, who resigned from the Shardul Shroff managed region of the firm last month, will join Shardul’s brother’s split firm Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas with his team of five.
Negi is joining with principal associate Rekha Dabas and senior associates Pallavi Rao and Prashant Jha.
Update 15:01: Negi commented: “It's a very good opportunity for all of us that we decided to take for our professional growth.”
Shardul Amarchand corporate principal associate Aarti Joshi will also be joining Cyril as a salaried partner.
Cyril Shroff confirmed the moves and commented that he was “very pleased” to welcome the new hires.
Negi confirmed his joining but was unable to comment further at the time of going to press.
We have reached out to Joshi and Shardul Shroff for comment.
Cyril and Shardul Shroff told Legally India and Mint in interviews earlier this month that they had not entered into any non-compete agreements, though Cyril said that it would be “some months at least” before they would laterally hire from each other, noting: “In that sort of a bloodbath everyone benefits and not us. Both will lose, so we'll just be mature about it. There is enough talent elsewhere in other firms.”
Shardul had said: “We are competitors—when we start new firms obviously we are not carving the market in an anti-competitive way. We are true competitors and don’t have any bilateral non-poaching.”

obviously the one who has "Ëlder's Wand"..!!!
B) The tale of the Peverell brothers shows that the youngest triumphed.
You could not have won the point for the other side more!
Aur haan hindi humarai rashtra bhasha hai kisi ke bare mein 2 shabd kahne ke liye isi ka mann mein hi prayog karein..
Jai Hind
Sincerely,
The overworked, underpaid associate
I don't think he left to join CAM, but certainly CAM now hiring the team only 1 month after he left suggests that it was more or less a lateral hire.
Plus, there's also Aarti Joshi...
but i have a confirmed source telling me [...], however thats not the concern here the point i want to make that the headline is misleading as it is giving an impression that Mr. Negi is poached by CAM from SAM which is certainly not the case.
Anyways my intention is not to demean or question the intigrity or capabilities of MR. Negi, he "was" and "is" a good lawyer [...].
Cheers..!!!
The headline just says 'bags' not 'poached', so don't think there's an issue...
Kian, have you ever personally got evidence of this nature? Ever?
Just asking...
The title is still misleading. Poach or bag, is in context of Shardul IP Partner. As you know Mr. Negi is not Shardul IP Partner. He is a "former" IP partner at delhi region of Amarchand Mangaldas.
Sometimes I feel you are just being arrogant. You may know somewhere within that you are wrong but won't admit and go on defending what you have written.
You should have been a partner at an indian law firm.
In a headline it's absolutely fine in my book and we've used it lots of other times before in similar circumstances, not sure why you single out this one in particular is upsetting you so much.
If someone took a sabbatical or 6 months off or whatever, then we might say former partner in the headline. If they quit their job 1 month ago (and therefore would normally still be on notice period), then it's fair to describe that person as a partner from there and it becomes pointless semantics (for the purposes of a headline) at what point of us reporting the story we begin to classify someone as an ex-partner, partner-on-notice, current partner who's not told the firm, partner on gardening leave, etc. etc.
It not the case of some one who is on sabbatical... your argument is falling short of reasons as cant you smell something when one leaves, without being asked to serve the notice period???
headline would sound more reasonable when it states "Former" IP Partner,. but being ""Kian" The Moderator, "Journalist" you wont accept logics.. kyun
Anyway, you've made your point, and I respectfully disagree. We'll let it rest now yes? Ok thanks.
Also, go find clients rather than snooping on your associates on LI.
A. why place that in the middle of the story, rather than at the end like it seems you normally do? and then B. still run an older line later in the story saying he had no comments at the time of going to press?
Should have updated the bit about not having comments but it's not very confusing in the context, is it?
Guess mine is just a reflection of the fact that I read what you write with some degree of interest, as well as because maybe after years of reading agreements these things strike your eye automatically :)
Came to Mumbai a law practice to start.
They pottered around and then one did leave.
The other took the name and promised: to conceive
A law power house that none shall touch
Him, the wife and sons believed as much.
And so Immortal Moon a legend became
Indian lawyers since, never the same.
Now him and wife watch from above.
The dying of their sons love.
Of course the new ladies played their roles.
Setting and re-setting their sons goals.
One thing they must hope for and surely pray.
Is their sons must unite again someday.
The ones predicting darkness already proven wrong.
Two Immortal Moons burn brighter, more strong!
De-hors that 'black-magic' she would ofcors luv to see, the Dikra of old - that sweet smelling tree!
The Shield is watching and waiting
All the best to Cyril!!!
You surely have an alternate career in your hand.. Great Job bro :)
Honestly, let me know if you have an alternate blog, website or book.. or a place where you post such collections, would love to read it..
