whose team? most GC teams are not hiring for the batch of 2027. maybe that's why you didn't get an extension. besides "reasonably hard" is subjective. at the end of the day your extension depends totally on your training guide and partner - if you worked reasonably hard but did not have visibility, it's useless.

I have been working with real estate team of t1 firm since past 2 years, and honestly pay is not as good as other teams, also the number of hours my team is putting is far more than other teams but still pay is very shite compare to theirs.

In any case, interning offline doesn't make much of a difference unless you're sitting with the team. The interns' space is in the basement while the entire office sits at 7th and 8th floor.

It’s great place to be in. All firms have their share of ups and downs. One partner in Bangalore is senior partner’s right hand. If you get in that partner team nothing like it - that partner is very intelligent and sharp and very grounded, ▮▮▮ She manages a lot of things in the firm - though you’ll never know what she is thinking. ▮▮▮ If you get in her team, you’ll come out as a superb corporate lawyer and very humble.

Well, like all other firms, it’s also a mixed bag. You’ll be really lucky if you end up working with VJ on any matter - calm, supportive, great attention to detail and extremely intelligent. Unfortunately, she isn’t involved in any matter - but it’s more like she is involved in all matters in corporate. So if you are lucky, and your partner or SA messes up or is about to mess up, she’ll get involved. Then you can see how calmly she gets the matter and client experience back on track. ▮▮▮

Both Company counsels and BRLM counsels are hired to do DD, draft the offer documents and draft contracts. That's it. An IB is the one who is running the show in an IPO, they perform the following functions:

* Value the company to determine the price for the IPO

* Draft the business section

* Bring in the Institutional investors by doing roadshows

* Most importantly cordinate with all the intermediaries, to get the offer documents out and take the heat from SEBI.

For all of this they get a % based fee of the issue in most cases. A seasoned MD of a top Indian IB would anytime earn more than an EP.

They'll either think:

(i) you already have another offer and not take you seriously; or,

if you tell them you want a PPO from this firm because you "deserve better",

(ii) you are over-entitled and/or disloyal and not take you seriously.

It's better to just do the internship on merit without other baggage and accept the outcome.

I wouldn't say this is entirely true. Its probably the team with the most on their plate rn. And if you actually worked with them, you would realise there is a lot more work than what LI says.

Not a hard stop per se, but they definitely aren't big on holding you back after a certain time, the culture seems to focus lot more on quality over quantity. But if you have commitments, you have commitments no avoiding that even if it goes past 7. But also haven't been held back simply to fit a certain no of hours a week, it has entirely depended on the workload

I am a lawyer in a corporate team of a tier-1 law firm. I have about 2 years of PQE, and I find myself to be uninterested in the kind of work or culture in law firms.

Could you please suggest any non-law roles I can pursue? Any skills/certifications I can acquire to get there? Or any resources or persons I can reach out to in this regard. I would value any advice in this regard.

I'm sorry, but this might also be the time for some reflection. The bar for an intern is very low — just show up, do what is asked, ask questions for whatever you don't understand, read, stick to the timelines, and with baseline competence and good communication skills, the work itself will get you a callback — or in worst case scenario, at least a valuable reference. You then do the callback and get the job. I don't have a family background, and I did 7 internships during my law school, 2 of them during the initial years, followed by whatever Tier 3 & tier 2 firms I could find through the references from the prior internships. Overall, I received 5 PPO offers.

If you've done 10 internships — and not received an offer from any of them — then there's got to be something you're not doing right. Getting nothing out of one or two internships could be attributed to luck.

That said, it's now time for you to try reaching out to the people you've worked under and request if they'd be willing to refer you to someone they know. People in the industry have been where you are, and this is the test of whether you did everything right. If they do, make the most of it. If they don't, it's time to set the frustration aside, go back to the drawing board, and apply incessantly while accepting that you didn't do your best previously, but are now going to reach there. I used to like many of us work at a T1 firm in Lower Parel - in a high attrition team. I have now switched to a more chill consultant role now. Its been a while. I was cleaning out my computer, I came across this journal app I haven't used since I quit. In that I used to write down my private thoughts.

One day due to some fuck up somewhere, I was being hauled by two PAs, and two partners out to the cleaners over email. But it was something that was not completely my fault. I have this habit of taking notes of people who wrong me, because I genuinely forget why I am angry with someone, or I forget I am angry with someone and message them happy birthday on instagram or whatsapp. Silly me.

This PA was super annoying, paranoid, anxious, micro manager - would call every 15 minutes for a deliverable after assigning. Just when I would get into the flow, she would call and annoy the fuck out of me. Anyway, during the above said incident, I decided to defend myself and listed out all the fuck ups she had done on the matter and emailed my partner. Needless to say I got a nice shouting in return from my boss, on email, but I felt so good. Ooorrrraahh!!
