Axis has decided not to release its Bengal figures, because 75% of the sample it interviewed refuse to say who they were voting for (which people are interpreting as a silent BJP wave).
We will know on Monday what happens, but if the BJP wins what will that mean for NUJS? For a start, there will be a new Advocate General and Law Minister. Also, the various TMC leaders abd ministers in the GC/EC will automatically resign, as these are ex officio posts. Iβm also not sure if some of the retired judges will be retained, given their stances. And then there is the question of the VCβ¦
Thoughts? Sure, the exit polls were way off the mark in 2024, but they have also been right many times. Also, the big difference between 2024 and now is the SIR. Lakhs of deletions of Muslim voters (genuine or otherwise).
Yes, if they do score a huge upset and win, there will be total chaos: the whole GC/EC and admin will be disrupted. But just 10% chance, so we aren't losing sleep. Equivalent of Netherlands defeating India in a cricket match (or India defeating Netherlands in a football match π₯²).
Thus, the focus for NUJS has to be to work within the existing setup. Maybe seek a meeting with Menaka Guruswamy and plead for more funds and support from the TMC.
