We want LI to be one of the friendliest places on the internet, where lawyers and law students help each other with their career related queries and occasionally discuss other stuff that might affect their lives too. In other words:
1. Be kind, respectful and helpful to each other.
2. Be bona fide, truthful, genuine and curious.
3. Assume the best intention of others.

Prepare for judiciary, but do intern alongside. While your theoretical knowledge would be useful when/if you enter litigation later, as a fresh associate, you would be expected to make yourself useful by a lot of tasks that you just won't grasp through books. Go intern, pay attention to court procedure, learn how filing and drafting works. If you intern for long, pay attention to strategising aspects of a case - this would also aid your knowledge for DJS.

There are plenty of other students who have published at peer review journals like NLU Delhi Journal of Legal Studies, NUJS Law Review and more...
Batch of 2026 is exceptional for sure
Something that Kancha Ilaiah did on Hinduism. His book professes the idea that violence against Dalits is inherent to Hinduism. If you can accept this then you should not have a problem with the idea that Islam and violence are the same thing.
The problem is that there are a range of critiques of Hinduism and caste that are taught in law school but I'm sure that not even a quarter of that amount is dedicated to Islam or the idea of jihad.
Let's discuss watches, and all that come with them (the good and the bad) on this thread. Please don't troll or derail the conversation (at either end, no "this watch is for the poors" kind of obnoxious behaviour, and no "watches are capitalist conceptions, let's cancel watches" kind of wokes).
I'll start - I'm in the 8-10PQE range. I currently own - 1. Omega Speedmaster, 2. Seiko Samurai, 3. Apple Watch Ultra. My future plans (next 2-3 years) include Grand Seikos, Seamaster, and (hopefully) an Oyster Perpetual.
In fact, "Sanjay" is common among boomer lawyers and judges too: Sanjay Kishan Kaul, PV Sanjay Kumar, Sanjay Hedge etc. So future Senior Advocates and SC judges too will have names like Sia, Tia, Kyra, Shyra etc!
i am also in the same kind of boat
Re OTT, just use pirated sites. You can get all the OTT content you want for free.
Re luxury watches, you can use Fossil or Tissot as a junior. People won't say anything.
Re girlfriend, she should pay the bills also, at least sometimes.
Wo right wing ka poster boy?
See this
Loan sharks are not going to give money to lawyers.
Thank you.
Most will allow you the freedom and time to take on your own cases while you are working for them from day 1. Just being a junior to a big senior will attract a few clients to you.
Once you prove your mettle and develop loyalty (minimum 3 years) they may send clients to you. To make a decision on who to work for look at how their non nepo ex juniors are doing.
Where are we headed? Do we have any value towards contributing anything positive to this country? (I agree that there have been some legends under this profession; but largely the profession has been overwhelmed with people like Sengupta)

1. Save 10% of the salary at the outset. So, Rs 10K a month. Put 5K in savings, 2K in a flexi FD and 3K in some sort of investment plan based on your risk appetite.
2. Living costs minus rent: Spend 20% of the salary . Thus, 20K on food, clothes, petrol, OTT subscriptions etc.
3. Car: Spend 20% (20K) of the salary per month to repay EMI on a car worth Rs 7.5 lakhs.
4. Spend 10% (10K) of the salary a month on luxury goods like iPhone, Swiss watch, expensive shoes and expensive suits. That's not enough, so maybe buy an iPhone through an EMI model and a second-hand Swiss watch.
5. Spend 30% of the salary on rent. Thus, 30K.
6. Finally, 10% of the salary (10K a month) + Rs 50K bonus on the girlfriend. Assuming moderate maintenance, save 2K a month for her birthday present (Rs 20,000) and remaining 8K a month should cover coffee at Starbucks every week and 1 dinner a month at a reasonable restaurant. The 50K bonus should cover 6 dinners a year at a 5 star hotel.
How's this for a plan?
When are we intimated of our revised salary in January or in march/april. Ik it will be effective from july but please answer the former part.
Promotion kicks in on 31 March itself. The incremental salary will start from July retainer fee onwards along with the arrears from April to June.
LOL
Abhishek Manu Singhvi was 10 times more privileged than me when it comes to the profession. However, he still has much more exposure, better mentorship, more court time and the right connections, and he is objectively a better professional than me even if we both have the same number of years of experience. Was he more privileged than me? Yes. But did his privilege aid him in getting better than me? Also yes. Similar to how money begets money. Better education, better networking, reasonable competency will take one places that simple hard work and talent can never reach in one generation (without a stroke of luck).
But is it ok for libs if Trudeau does it?

Thanks a lot. And thanks generally to everyone else who took the time to comment.
Those who have not qualified NET, PhD degree exempts them from NET.
So every law college in India including all NLUs must accept LLM + NET as basic qualification for Assistant Professor post.
