I'm not generalising anything and fully recognise the struggles girls go through their whole life, while walking down the street, travelling, using the lift, working amongst seniors and colleagues who make you uncomfortable, crazy interview questions etc., and as a male, I recognize my privilege.
However, I have to describe an incident. Not one, but a usual course of events.
I have been interning with a tier 1 firm, and everyone is very approachable, right to the top partner. However, I have noticed one thing, and it's kinda depressing. I have been asking the team for work since day 1 and get bleak responses. But 2 girls join the team and all of a sudden the senior male partner greets them, discusses work and asks the PA to allott some urgent work. All the seniors seem to suddenly have work for them. They aren't even people with connections, they are like batchmates, who got the internship the college way. But somehow they seem to have a pull in the team.
Ofcourse female associates are comfortable assigning them work and discussing things in person, however even male associates seem to suck up and blatantly flirt with them like its not fking creepy. The girls also don't seem to care and keep crossing the boundaries between a senior and junior, like it's no big deal. I understand I'm noone to police or advise on how to behave, and what kind of relationship a person has to have with whatever boundaries and with whom, and I may be an absolute scum of an intern in looks and work ethic, but how do you judge that on day 1, like you first allot work and then judge right, don't you?
Reach out to me at Litalks@protonmail.com
And does the latter one exist in Judicial services exams on Interview or any stage? Also in states like Rajasthan, MP, Haryana, UP, Uttrakhand?
( As you are a Judicial services aspirant, it would be really helpful, if you can please help me out, I'm so confused about all this)
As for your last statement, it's the same old delusions of self-grandeur that NLUD trolls have. They have to retain it, because nobody else outside the walls of Dwarka acknowledge them as even one of the best, let alone the very best.
To all the seniors and the professionals in the field I need your help please guide a junior out. I am kind of in a dilemma in my career trajectory. Before I vent out my grievance I gotta give my slight background information. I am a third year law student at a tier 3 law college. I have always had a very casual attitude with my life until i got my second internship which is now have turned into a long term internship. I have adopted the GLC model where I just work at a litigation firm as a permanent intern type and basically get that required exposure and learning which an A0 might learn in his first year of his job.
Now the thing is I love litigation. I love everything about it. It is the reason the damn reason i use this website more than instagram and scalp any information about litigation chambers or anything about litigation. Earlier, when I first started my college I thought I would just join T1 corporate Law firm and my main motivation was just for purely financial incentives. I never actually wanted to be a "corporate lawyer".
Now that mindset changed when i got this internship at T3 litigation firm and i was delegated a lot of tasks which probaly an A0 of this firm would do or possibly the PA too and I fell in love with litigation but one thing which always bothered me is the money and the feeling of being overwhelmed.
Earlier some days ago i saw a thread on LI where a PA was talking about some luxury car reccomendations and that just hit me. I was like if i compare my career trajectory with this PA i might just be still getting pushed around and be a struggling lawyer and mind you I just come from a middle class family with not much of an impressive finances. That feeling of what if in litigation just fucks me up sometimes
Like I still have three years to decide but I don't know even know if corporate law is for me I can't just imagine myself to the horrors or abuses which a Corp lawyer faces at T1 firms , lemme ask you all the T1 lawyers is the money actually worth it ? is it worth it ? Do you actually love your desk job and that corporate life? Why didn't you choose litigation and chose corporate?
I mean somewhere or the another i do realize the fact that I am only considering the corporates because of the fat paychecks and nothing more. I got into this field accidentally and gave clat as if it was my class test I hold no regrets about it, I fucked up and now I am paying its price some way or the another.
I got some hope again where I saw some paymasters like Gopal Sankarnarayan and Rajshekar Rao who pays their junior well and I am delusional enough to think that maybe I will get a place in one of these two chambers lmao
I even planned out my trajectory to survive in litigation someway or the another it was basically
Disputes Team at a t2 firm> Junior Filing Chamber > Senior Adv's office (Preferred GShanks or Rajshekar). I don't know whether it is just me being young and dumb but I am this delusional enough to be placed at both of these chambers. I really hope that never meet your heroes phrase is wrong
I don't know man I guess I had a rough day at work I feel like I have used this site like a therapist or sum venting platform. I couldn't bother anyway. I hope the mods are kind enough to post this vent of mine.
So much projection about lawyers who moved abroad because of the lala culture.
They are actual professionals you are just a well paid waiter.
I am genuinely surprised we occupy so much land rent free.
Thank You.
Translation for non-Bengali speakers:
1. Mookherjee has said that he did not receive any support from the government. Also, that he stands against corruption and the state is wrongly obstructing criminal cases. He also said that the government is appointing lawyers without consulting him. The Telegraph has also said that there is heavy politicisation of legal work and infighting, i.e. Abhishek Banerjee-Sanjay Basu (Aquilaw) TMC faction versus Kalyan Banerjee-Moloy Ghatak faction.
2. The Telegraph also reveals that it was Mamata's decision to break the tradition of appointing eminent senior barristers as AG by appointing Kishore Datta (Kalyan's former junior) as AG. Also, that even though Kishore did terribly as AG he was apparently well-liked by people in the TMC. However, he may not be reappointed as AG and the position may again go to a senior and respected lawyer.

And say I want to transition to pure a business role - (associate consultant - McKinsey) - what steps would I have to make and would my Big 4 experience help with an MBB job?
This is the one area I could help, so I did!
The managing partner also is one of the nicest humans that you will encounter in this profession. The stories may or may not be true but there is no denying that after working in SEBI for almost a decade, he knows the securities law field inside out. He also treats all associates and interns with respect, which for me is a thing missing in most tier 1 law firm teams. He also takes you out for nice lunches and team retreats. He also does not hold you back in case you want to leave and join a tier 1 firm or a litigation chamber, in fact he's supportive of that. For me, that is hallmark of a great boss.
Not everything is rosy, that is true. The work hours are tough (about 10 am to 9 pm) but the managing partner is also there grinding out with you. In my view, after having worked in 3 different offices, I believe it is a tough profession and if you want to make it big then you need to spend a number of hours working and reading. If you are ready to devote a substantial number of hours to this profession and want to work in the securities law field, then Regstreet is the place to be. However, please note that you will need to be able to bare it out for at least a year before you are able to make a mark in this firm.
Happy to answer any other doubts that people may have about the place.
Paid horrendously low salaries so doesn’t attract good talent.
LLBs not allowed to teach. Many people with good industry experience who want to teach don’t have LLMs.
College campuses are usually far from the city.
If you can't afford the cost or can't get good scholarship (many guys on 75% and 50% fee concession), go to NLU or govt law college
Calling their actions amateur attempts. Not cool. They are your teammates, share in their joy, don’t mock their choices.
Second, clearly you were curious enough to click on a post titled "T-1 firm Diwali excesses!", so spare us the judgment. You are clearly as interested in the judgey-gossip as the rest of us. As someone who works at this job, but doesn't worship at the altar of corporate law firms, it IS lol-worthy that those from backgrounds dissimilar to mine (upperish middle class) are burning through money earned spending weekends at the office, all to play this amateur attempt at keeping up with the joneses. My entire college fee could have been covered by the cash these two threw around on a watch and handbag. I make more money than both of them, but I choose to be a mature adult.
But sure, judge me for judging them.
Would be grateful if information can be given, since I have only seen teams which combine Arbitration and Dispute resolution.
Does any big firm have dedicated arbitration teams who only do arbitration?
Is it still fine pursuing? Would really appreciate some insights, thank you.
Sincere thanks!
False ofc
For OP, I suggest you apply for assessment internships at T1 and T2 firms and of course law firms and chambers will definitely grab you (NLU Tag). All the best :)
2) every law chamber / office is toxic due sheer amount of reading and work pressure.
3) mentorship depends on the candidate. Not on mentor barring few exceptions
Asking this since I can get a car from home.
Factually, please note that he was never at CAM and has no prior law firm experience other than experience at his own firm.
The attrition rate speaks for itself.
Pay is average.
It's not just T1 firms which have toxic work culture. Small firms can be as toxic.
Take a wise call.
I don't know who is presenting this unbelievable rosy picture. Seems like some story teller.
Baaki zindagi ye hi qtiyaape karne hein.
Waise - it doesn't take more than 10 minutes to fill the TS on a daily basis
Abroad, understandably, the reason given is that the professors are mostly busy towards research work and grants. Therefore the teaching may not be upto par. However that's not the case in India, since hardly anyone publishes frequently or in a high quality manner. So if they're not researching or teaching, then what are they doing ?
TLDR; Why do Indian professors s*k at teaching? Genuine answers please.
However, is this a too rosy picture of the firm?
